Dewey Center

Psychiatric hospital

😠 I agree with another reviewer - they have a couple of good overworked psychiatrists, but that is it. The staff is incredibly rude. Some of their policies - while "legal" - is morally unethical and cold hearted, especially for patients with mental illness. And you hardly get any therapy while there... People often mention staff, patients, experience, Dewey, Center, care,

I agree with another reviewer - they have a couple of good overworked psychiatrists, but that is it. The staff is incredibly rude. Some of their policies - while "legal" - is morally unethical and cold hearted, especially for patients with mental illness. And you hardly get any therapy while there. This place is also disorganized - information conveyed to the nurse and staff may not always reach its appropriate destination (and you are not allowed to email). Even if the patients sign the ROI, the family is notified of hardly anything (not even the discharge date or time). Empathy training is STRONGLY encouraged for the staff at Dewey - especially for a place like this. A family member was discharged outside on the street for me to pick them up with NO SHOES OR CELL PHONE. The only way I knew to pick them was they amazingly allowed my family member to call me on their way out the door. Again, no notice of discharge (what if I wasn't home) or any kind of honesty from this place.

Talia A at Dewey Center was incredibly rude, and acted as if she doesn’t care about her patients, tried arguing with me because I told her I was having suicidal thoughts and she told me, I can try another facility, but not to go to any other Aurora facility as they are all connected. She said she wouldn’t be putting in a word to the doctor of how I was feeling and that I had to leave. I was disappointed as I went back home and if it wasn’t for a close friend I probably wouldn’t be here right now. I definitely don’t recommend her but I do think it’s overall a nice facility, just some staff like Talia, who doesn’t really care about the patients well being. Prayers to anyone going through anything right now. I hope you get through it.

The Dewey Center is great. If you've never been there I suggest you take a drive just to see it. It's a mansion turned into a treatment center! It's beautiful inside and out. Next time I go there I'll take some pictures of the outside. Obviously, for legal reasons, I can't photograph inside the building; you'll have to see it for yourself. I don't have personal experience as a patient there but I know people that were. They had nothing bad to say about it. They also host meetings for AA, NA, HA, CA, etc. The Dewey Center is a valuable resource for a lot of people, including me. I go there for AA meetings. They just started back up recently so if you have an alcohol or drug problem or know someone that does I suggest they go to the Dewey Center either for treatment or meetings!! Addiction is the real epidemic in my opinion and we all know it. Please if you're battling Addiction GET HELP!! Don't let your legacy be "died of a drug over dose or drank themselves to death." You're in good hands at the Dewey Center. I'd just like to express my gratitude for the work they do❤

Not experienced in dual diagnosis, especially PTSD. I came here as a last resort option due to low funds and yes they renovated, but they are still behind in their treatment, services, and advice. Some therapists are great, some need more experience and same with the doctors. I experience major frustration and only continue to seek services for suboxone. They have too many patients as a whole that they don't have time to get to know you or do they remember anything about you! If you have no experience in health care and your rights, this place would probably seem great, but from what I hear and see, your treatment quality depends on who you get for a doctor and a therapist! Which is not right and they will not allow you to "switch doctors," even when your needs are not being met. No one here seems to know how to return phone calls and a health care experience should never be this frustrating and confusing!!!!

Very helpful staff and program. Nothing but good things to say about this place. Excellent programs with a wide variety of different programs to choose from that will ultimately meet the needs of anyone who has to seek out treatment here. The therapist staff is very knowledgeable and competent as well. They create an environment which is very beneficial to all of the patients there and they are able to offer the type of help that those patients need.

I can’t thank this place enough. Almost two years clean and it began at the Dewey Center. I wouldn’t have the life I have today without the facility and the wonderful people who worked there. I know everyone’s experience is different, but I can’t begin my story of recovery without mentioning this place. I appreciate you all.

I went to my doctor appointment last week. The receptionist wouldn't let me see the doctor because I couldn't pee in a cup for a drug test. Now my meds are cut off, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and naproxen. I've called every number from Google but haven't been able to reach my doctor or facility manager or frankly ANYONE who could help me at all. I'm stunned and at a loss as what to do about the meds...

This place is ridiculous, God forbid you have a loved one in their program- because you can't get through to ANYONE. AND when you do, they don't call you back, or engage family at all. I've been calling religiously 3 days in a row here, with no answer. People here are collecting paychecks and going home. It's ridiculous.

Came here 24 years ago. Staff was amazing. Therapist did not do much for me, I young and did not trust her. It was a gym staff member sharing a personal life experience and lost someone. Changed my life. Clean ever since, thank you
