This place is chaotic no organization at all, patients being aggressive with staff, staff being demeaning to patients. It was a staff member in grey scrubs back in September when I was there with a friend running in the halls naked screaming. Other staff members were trying to help her. This is what goes on with staff, wow I can imagine what happens with patients. 3rd shift intake will have you waiting in the waiting area for several hours. You can hear them arguing about whoā€™s gonna take the next person because ā€œtheyā€™re sleepyā€ Iā€™m really disappointed in the county for choosing this place to take care of the flow of mental health patients. Sad, this place is their option just sad. Granite staff are unprofessional and disrespectful. Patients only go here because other places are full and this is their last option!

This should NOT be the first choice for anyone that suffers from mental or behavioral health issues. I literally sat for several hours in the waiting room for my sister to get an assessment. The person that finally came out was rude and snappy she was on her phone majority of the time texting. Iā€™ve heard staff talking about inappropriate things and from the view of the reviews on Indeed itā€™s not a good place to work either. Well hiring rude people like that is their forte then they accomplished that then!!! Who wants or needs to hear about one of the nurses was out ā€œdrinking until the wee hours in the morning but had to come into workā€ this place the staff are inconsiderate and appear unbothered. They are just there to get a check! Community stick with Aurora or Ascension because this place is too much all over the place! They need to remove the old and replace with new professionals. PS they turned my sister away and she was suicidal according to the person who did the assessment how could that be! Iā€™m praying for anyone who gets admitted because youā€™ll come out worse than you did when you went in Iā€™m told

I am not quite sure how to feel about this place. The staff was very kind and patient with me, my social worker was great, and the psychiatrist really helped me and validated me. I wanted to discharge earlier but my clinical team encouraged me to stay because they could tell I was not ready to go. I am sincerely appreciative of the staff and what they did for me. Also, the food was good; A lot better than I expected. There were some things I witnessed that definitely threw me off. My intake took about 3-4 hours and I was sitting in a room waiting for staff to take me onto the unit. The intake worker was definitely disorganized and had papers all over the place and appeared flustered. While I was on the unit, the staff took us outside into the small court yard. I laid down by the garden area and noticed it got quiet. When I got up, I noticed the group and staff forgot me outside and I had to knock on the door for like 40 seconds before a staff member noticed me...mind you I was in there for a suicide attempt. Also, a lot of the staff members yelled at patients, talked about inappropriate topics (cleaning ladies were talking about partying and drinking), and swore....a lot. The patient weren't really encouraged to attend group and the group leaders were very unorganized and ran unstructured groups. Not the worst experience in the world but I feel like if staff was talked to about management, it would be a more therapeutic environment.

Anyone who is suicidal or having other issues needs to come here. BUT. U must put in the work for it to help. 99% of the staff are so caring and compassionate. Between the doctors, techs, nurses. They so care and take care of you. Kudos to all of u. I did contact crisis center to tell them this place should be a number one pic. I learned so much AND had so much fun. Thank granite hills staff.

If I could give a negative star I would. They are the most disorganized, dysfunctional facility I have ever seen. They can never get their facts straight and send home my family member who is extremely aggressive and will not even prescribe medication for him once he leaves. So that leaves myself and family in grave danger once again. They do not want to listen to you. So another in words is this requiring a lawsuit and more police protection? How disgraceful!

My son is currently hospitalized here. I had wanted him to go to Aurora but the intake process for Aurora was taking so long. So instead, Granite Hills responded more quickly. My son has had multiple hospitalizations, so Iā€™m pretty familiar with how this process works usually at other hospitals. This hospital has been an absolute mess in my opinion. I wasnā€™t given any of his paperwork when checking him in and only received it today on day three of his stay because I had to drop off schoolwork and things for him. I called multiple times yesterday requesting a status and never got a phone call back. I only got a phone call to start medication for him that heā€™s already taking that. I disagree with and never got a call back regarding my disagreement. When I was there today. I left a note for the nurse to call and didnā€™t receive a phone call until eight hours later And even then was unable to get any status on diagnosis and was told that they were going to be starting medicationā€˜s but they didnā€™t know what they were going to be starting. And quite frankly, how are you going to prescribe medicationā€˜s without some clear diagnosis and history? They have not even requested records from any of his providers or his school or anything. Itā€™s been pretty much radio silence. The business office was the first phone call that I got in regards to his insurance and they also said that they were going to call me back later in the day yesterday and I never received a phone call back completely unprofessional and very concerning that I canā€™t get updates or status on my minor child. They would not let me on the unit today to speak to anyone. I can only pray they arenā€™t doing more harm than good to him right now. Edit to add: if Milwaukee county psych was still in operation I would have chosen that facility for my child over this one any day of the week

PART ONE! THERE IS TWO PARTS! I was here because i tried to kill myself at first when I was in the hospital and they told me I was going here I didnā€™t think that it could be that bad here. My mom and dad really didnā€™t want me to go to this place but this was the only place that would take me. When I got here they did the standard procedure scan me down and have me change. Then they put me in the room. I was in this room for 3 HOURS! All alone in a hospital gown freezing! After that 3 hours was up I was taken my this one staff member named Elijah to the ward. (Elijah is amazing). Once I was taken to the ward I was told to hop into group. It was almost over but I sat in anyway. They wernt doing anything group related but as soon as I enters I was warmly welcomed by the other kids there. (I was in the adolescent unit). The kids there were amazing and kind and welcoming. My mom dropped off my clothes on Friday at 3:30. I got my clothes Sunday at 12:30 and that because I asked one of the staff there who was suppose to be at the front but because they are so understaffed she was there. When she got my clothes I only got 2 pants 2 shirts. No bra or underwear, shoes, or socks. My mom had dropped off that stuff too she went out and bought me a sweater to fit the dress code. I asked the staff (Ashley) if my other clothes were up there she said that they where but she couldnā€™t get them for me at the time, and I completely understand that I was not mad at all. However I was mad when the next morning I asked because some other girl got all of her stuff. They told me I needed to wait. So I asked later that night the next morning and the morning after that. I got the rest of my clothes on Monday at 3:00am! I donā€™t know if itā€™s apart of her job or what not but there was this one night nurse/doctor I donā€™t 100% know. But l told her I had trouble sleeping and asked for a melatonin. She told me that I didnā€™t need one because I just slept just fine the night before. It took me 40 minutes to fall asleep and I woke up 4 times. She said that she comes into our room when we are sleeping and watches us sleep. She said and I quote ā€œI come into all of yā€™allā€™s rooms when youā€™re sleeping and get really close to your face and watch you for like 5 minutes.ā€ She was the white one with gray hair and had purple blue and green shoes. (They are really cute). Me and a few others had to fight her for melatonin THAT WE ARE ALOWED TO HAVE! She told me one of the staff that I had clothing on my bathroom floor but I never did! So the lady (the staff not nurse) goes into the room next to mine because me and this girl had very similar names. She said ā€œno the blond oneā€ she she comes into my room and politely tells me what the nurse said and I was clearly confused. So I let her come in and my room was spotless because I NEVER HAD CLOTHES ON MY FLOOR! So the staff leaves and says that my room was clean. She has the audacity to go. ā€œI cleaned it up for her.ā€ LIKE NO YOU F-ING DIDNT! I was here voluntarily so when I was read my rights I was told that I was allowed to sign myself out after 72 hours. I read all of the paperwork I signed very carefully and I was still under that impression. After 72 hours I try to sign myself out of this hell hole and they wonā€™t let me! My mom had to call five times and I had to ask three times in one day to try and get me released a day earlier then I was supposed to because we were going on vacation. When I was leaving it was so disorganized because I got called back twice to do an evaluation but I already took it. THEY HAD THE EVALUATION PAPER IN THERE FOLDER! I left the same day three other people left and it was just so chaotic. I understand everyone is going through their own stuff but there was this little girl she was 11 and itā€™s the same girl that had a similar name as me . . . I get she was there for a reason but she triggered so many people and she got away with a lot of it. She yelled, kicked, slammed doors, BIT PEOPLE! And all the staff said when we got mad at her because she was either not respecting boundaries-

Believe the reviews! This facility is very disorganized. Lacks communication with parents. If you are an involved parent that cares. Please look elsewhere! If you can wait for a bed to open at a different facility then do that. As soon as my child is released I will write a very detailed review of my experience!

Negative 5 star Option!! Unfortunately, this place should be shut down. See previous review. UPDATE FROM MY PREVIOUS REVIEW: Recently I had found out that my niece was experienced a severe panic attack and dissociation, black out moments, in the days leading her to release. The staff gave her a sedative via injection. Since it provided no relie the staff, not the doctor, choose to give her a second injection within the hour of the first dose. A comment to note is that my niece was 100 lbs at the time. It would be obvious to anyone that of injections would be an overuse of the drug, as well as the quantity of it on such a 15-year-old teen. The family WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THIS. At this point we still DID NOT HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF THE DR: TREATING HER OR IF THERE WAS ONE overseeing the clinic, let who was treating her or how. Nor did we know who approved the first dose or second dose of sedative. THERW IS AND HAS BEEN NO DOCUMENTATION, no materials shared with us regardless of requesting and demanding it. EVEN A YEAR LATER. After the double dose of injections - She had to go to the bathroom sometime after the injection and stated to the staff that she did not feel right. With the bathrooms being locked and are supposed to be monitored while a patient is within it, she asked a staff member to use the wash room before laying down. A member of the staff unlocked the bathroom and let her in. After 1 hour the staff started to look for her, as she was told. My niece had collapsed on the tile floor. Where she continued to lay for 2 hours. They found her 2 hours later in the bathroom where she had collapsed. The staff was meant to watch her, be with her outside of the bathroom doors; and checked on. My niece said she blacked out immediately after she informed the staff she didnā€™t feel well and only remembers she didnā€™t feel right. She had already identified it to the staff that something was wrong. They let her went to the bathroom, and was woken abrupt by the staff screaming that they were looking for her as if it were her fault. She wasnā€™t herself for days, including days after her release. She has had to deal with so much trauma in her life and came back to Milwaukee to heal and get away from it. INSTEAD SHE CAME OUT MORE TRAUMATIZED AND ABUSED. Instead she was abused and traumatized more over multiple issues with Granite Hills. As much as we need more mental health facilities for the adolescent group, as well as the older generations, this facility is causing in inherent abuse of these young minds as well as their families. If something meant for goodness does more harm than good - it should be stopped without question. A petition and complaint to the state and federal programs are being made. I recommend if you have had similar experiences that you reach out to do the same. If you wish to join me in shutting down a place that causes such harm on already vulnerable teens - feel free to contact me.

I typically follow the rule that if you do not have something nice to say, don't say it. I cannot follow that rule here. Especially when it comes to mental illness. I shrieked when I saw my niece's only option was this well-intentioned, but horribly rated facility. I had prayed and hoped that the reviews online were wrong, made by individuals/families who may not have engaged or been open to recommendations, or XYZ. I tried to put it aside, but they were on point. Please beware, get educated and advocate for yourself, your family, or your children. I'm not quite sure what this facility offers. It is a big question mark on who works there (if you can reach anyone), which doctors are available or in charge, family not get in touch with adolescents (plus you must transfer between multiple lines to get there in the first place), the phone rings for 30 mins+ before a call is answered, it took 2 days for my niece to get her clothes/items from the staff, and the worst of it - where is the care and treatment? Her parents were not involved in any treatment plans, therapy, or discussions other than admission paperwork and discussing what medication she was on at the time of admission. We all know teens, especially, are complicated to treat - you cannot treat nor diagnose them by their words and actions while under admission alone. Family inclusion, family therapy, and discussions with family about behaviors must be taken into account. We already knew that additional testing would be needed and had our own plan, but the doctor from Granite Hill (after days of not knowing if one even existed) called to state my niece was "fine" (a word I would never expect any mental health provider, let alone doctor to use) and that all she needed was XXXX I couldn't believe it. We couldn't believe it. Calls from her family multiple times per day in regards to not knowing her treatment plan, medications given, therapy given, not being able to contact anyone at the premise - including her were ridiculous and made a difficult time even more challenging and upsetting. They missed the diagnosis of a text-book diagnosis of a mood disorder of borderline personality disorder even after it was suggested by other physicians and referrals. The description on this page says: "We offer high-quality, patient centered care for the greater Milwaukee community. With a wide range" and it ends there. Clearly they don't know what they offer either! High-quality what? Not mental care. If you look through their content it's apparent that they focus more on the staff and the fact that they are hiring (and obviously need the staff and probably some firing, perhaps a change in protocols, better training, counselors, and much more). They have no interest in educating on Mental health. If you have a choice to go to another facility I encourage you to choose any other facility in the area. Sure, this one looks pretty and new, but that won't help. I pray that one day Granite Hill will meet the promises so many had for it, but up until now (based on others reviews as well) it has failed not only the community, but many individuals and families.

Do not go to this place the most unprofessional, unorganized place to go. No communication whatsoever and not welcoming. I would not recommend you take children here this is a place to go for last result. As a person working in child welfare please keep your kid away from here. There is a reason they have openings but no real feedback on their care.

For the most part I had a positive experience. I was transferred here from MHEC, and Sophia introduced herself after waiting about 30-40 minutes, she was very quick and the time it took to get to the unit was only about an hour. Later on I was assessed by Dr. Blue, let me just say he is one of the best people out there, during my stay, Dr. Blue finally got me the diagnosis of bulimia, and treated me, and had given me the diet I needed without feeding into the bulimia. He helped me, monitored my medication and how it affected me, he knew what he was doing. The food was pretty decent, I think Sylvester and a few other people home make them, they interact with patients kindly. I wish Chelsea had more appreciation, Chelsea is paying money out of HER pocket willingly to buy patients crayons, so they have things to do, and she tries to make the stay better and "more fun" for the patients, she deserves more appreciation, despite the fact management doesn't like her, she deserves better. There was a point where patients got too much though, and staff did very little. Patients were always loud to the point where it triggered a patient severely, not to mention there were 2 patients including myself with autism. I was told by Geta there was nothing they could do. There was no attempt at all to stop then, a simple "keep it down" wasn't enough. Two patients had sexual relations, and staff was yet to find out. It was only until Tiffany had enough of the patients, did anyone do something. There were multiple fights, and at one point there was multiple patients angry, and staff's solution was to put everyone in their ROOMS, which is unlockable by the inside.

This place is a nightmare. I was admitted essentially for severe stress and after realizing that they lied about the rules and activities to get u there I requested to leave to go to another facility and was illegally placed on a 25 hour hold. THEY never told me why they put me on a hold. They told my mom it was for suicidal thoughts which is inaccurate as that was never apart of the episode I was going thru and I made that clear with my mom at my side that I wasn't having those thoughts upon intake. She advocated like hell for me and got me out by threatening to call the police because they were also withholding prescribed medication. The staff is very unprofessional and is more concerned with eachother than the patients in their care. Do not send your children here, and if you already have, I can almost guarantee you they are speaking the truth of what happened to them here. I was there 11 hours and endured a weeks worth of events. This place needs to be shut down. I have been trying for 12 days now to get ahold of my records cuz I want to see the evaluation from the 24 hour hold (because again, they had no legal reason to do so and what they told my mom was verbal and id like to see whats on paper) and no one bothers to call back.

Pretentious and condecending staff and psychiatrist. Pyschistrist lied and omitted statements. Yall need recordings misdiagnosed me pumped me full of meds violated HIPPA rights, i can go on and on. Forcing people and heavily medicating them for profit needs to be illegal. And then kicking them out the door nice

Social workers only care about how long they can be inside, they don't care about the mental health of their patients, patients can call to make threats and get aggressive during visits and they still say that the inmates are okay to come out

Horrible experience! I would give less than 1 star if it was possible. But even still- it makes me very very sad that so many people need these services yet fail to get it at this facility which is under-serving Milwaukee. I witnessed first hand - long response times for urgent medicine needs, poor management of out of control patients who are aggressive toward staff and other patients + rude staff + nursing staff who frequently ignored patients + clearly understaffed and overwhelmed nurses who were not educated or equipped to safely address needs of diabetic patients + refusing to allow voluntarily admitted patients to leave but not having availability to any doctors for this first 17 hrs after admission+ lack of patient privacy by giving meds in line at a medicine window and the list of unexcusable patient care goes on... I was more stressed after being admitted than anything that caused me to seek them out. I feared for my medical and physical safety. I would personally never send or allow anyone that you care about to be sent to this facility and nothing will likely change since these types of concerns are not new for the County though previously exposed And good luck trying to reach anyone in Administration. Not one contact listed anywhere on the site to discuss concerns. I wish that i could stop my private insurance from paying for my 17 hr stay.
