UPDATED - don’t expect to get a seat. They fill their restaurant first with reservations first and then with whatever seats are left, they fill them with first come first serve. The wait for a table is at least, minimum one hour. They used to have you put a down payment for a reservation, but I think they took it down. I understand it’s a small restaurant, and it could be my own opinion, but I think a restaurant should have half reservations and half walk in. Especially if people are driving 20+ min to arrive to this restaurant. There should be a different way to do reservations & walk ins. Just in my opinion.

We love everything inside this Restaurant but not so much about food. Laid back feeling restaurant kind of hip music background but not too loud. Retro interior design. Restaurant offers many small dishes to start and many special of the day. Food came out fast and excellent services as well. Food was mild nothing stand out to our taste and some so weird like cure salty squid. Ramen was okay compared to another Ramen place across the street. Fried chicken was not enough seasonnig compared to Kitakata Ramen. Softshell crab was okay as well. Spinach with black sesame was different in a good way and deep fried tofu with fishy after taste mushrooms but well balanced sauce.

Decided to go here for dinner around 6:30pm on a Monday and had a 45 minute wait. The appetizers were pretty good and fairly priced. As for the entrees, the katsu dinner was crunchy and juicy. The ramen noodles were cooked perfectly but toppings were just okay. The udon noodle soup is a little bland and would be better with togarashi. Luckily the pickled vegetables we ordered for appetizers helped add flavor to the udon. Overall, it's a decent dinner, but I wouldn't wait that long for the restaurant again. If it's not crowded, I might come back.

Amazing Japanese food experiences every time that i go here. The sushi, handrolls, appetizers, and so much more are top notch. I recommend the spicy ramen for ramen enthusiasts. The place is clean, the staff are friendly, the atmosphere is nice and private. It will be hard to find better authentic Japanese food and atmosphere experience elsewhere. This is a top 5 Japanese restaurant overall in chicagoland.

50$ for this ???? We paid 110$ for 3 dishes that were ramen, seabass and sashimi. Haven’t been cheated in along time.

Stopped here for lunch. Cozy yet seating maintains privacy except at the bar seating. We ordered the lunch specials - hamachi kama and chicken (dark meat) katsu don and also an agadashi tofu appetizer. Everything was delectable, well prepared. Lunch special comes with rice, small side dish and salad, and a miso soup. Good quality fish, meat and produce. Update- dinner service is excellent as well. Fresh, quality ingredients that are well executed. Ordered the tonkatsu bento box, Waygu ground beef mechi Katsu, Berkshire pork cheek, sea bass and soba noodles. We ate every last bite. Great service. Update - lunch specials are delicious. We've eaten lunch several times and there's always something different for the lunch specials. The mackerel and fried oysters were fantastic. Well prepared. Good portions. The oxtail curry with fried shrimp was delectable. My father finished every last drop of the curry sauce.

Nice place for lunch. Started with Agedashi tofu. Lightly bartered fried tofu in a dashi sauce. Nice and light. The pork and chicken katsu generous portions. Tender juicy and tasty. Will have to go back for the ramen.

Third time visiting this place. My kids like Katsu and Udon. Service is good, food is also good. The only reason I gave four-star is that they do not have sushi or sashimi option to choose from the lunch menu.

I don’t write reviews very often but I had to for Torizen out of pure disappointment. I first came here when it first opened and the food, presentation, service were all top quality. I’ve recently went again and everything has just gone downwards. I ordered a don and the pork cutlet was over cooked, the egg was behind overcooked, all hard no runny spots, and the sauce was slightly too sweet. This place is nowhere as good as it once was and it genuinely hurts me to see a restaurant as good as this downgrade so much. Edit: It’s still a pretty good restaurant if you’re looking for Japanese food in the area. Just won’t cut it if you’re looking for well executed dishes.

Great place for food. Selection is a bit limited and may vary by day. Sushi is limited but does come with authenticity. Overall, a great experience and atmosphere with friendly staffing.

Terrible, the ramen looked like maruchan with broth. And to top it all off one of the waitresses ran out of the store just to ask why I didn’t tip her and almost demand I tip her to show that I appreciated the food. There she a ramen shop thats within 2 miles of the store thats so much better but I forgot the name. 0 out of 10 and I wouldn’t recommend.

Wow! The food was absolutely delicious. Ended up paying about 25/person but the food was worth every penny. Very nice atmosphere in the downstairs area. There are lots of tables but they are well seperated so you can't see more than one other table.

This place really serves the best Japanese Izakaya food in Chicago. We tried their okonomiyaki ($11), agedashi tofu ($6.50), chicken karaage ($7), hirekatsu ($14), and aburi battera sushi ($12). Everything was very delicious. We especially loved their okonomiyaki because they have eggs and yakisoba noodles in it. Their aburi battera sushi was special as well as they put shiso leaves in them giving them a nice refreshing taste and smell. They also have a good selection of alcohol: from sake, beer and wine. I highly recommended this restaurant. I'll definitely come again to try their other menus.

What compels a man to eat 3 times a week at the same restaurant for the last 3 months straight? Is it the high quality food? Is it the affordable prices despite everything going on? Is it that Japanese business people that I work with, from Japan, prefer going here because it reminds them of the food back home? I could tell you it's all of it. But the truth is, it's because I'm greeted warmly, fed properly, and would rather sip my post-meal tea here than anywhere else. Oh and the lunch specials slap 😁

Update: Really enjoyed a bowl of spicy miso ramen and udon. Thank you. Despite feeling a little rushed before their lunch closing time, the dishes were really good. I would definitely visit again. We had spicy miso ramen, udon, tonkatsu and tendon.

Outstanding food. I couldn’t believe how delicious the miso eggplant was!!! Great sushi and ramen! My only complaint is the waitstaff didn’t provide much guidance and the menu is non descriptive (no pics or helpful descriptions) Our waitstaff was otherwise lively and food outstanding
