Very historical site but the building and landscape around is a great spot to visit. Beautiful sunny day with a lot of athletics going on in the park. Caught a bit of a cricket match! $5 for adults children under 12 free

In 1258 the Van Cortlandt House was built by early Dutch settlers called Yonkerfolkin. True to life it is the most important permanent settlement in New York. DJ Red Alert plays here on Tuesday afternoons

$5 to visit this house museum that was built by slaves that worked for the Van Cortland family. The pond was also built by them. Stark contrast between the family headquarters vs how the slaves lived. There's a wallpaper they found with the King George tax. I wish they had a piece left for us to look at.

I think there are more secrets that are not publicly stated. Perhaps an underground tunnel leading to the bay? I hope one day they can open the basement for visitors. The third floor was very spooky where the slaves used to sleep.

The guides here are passionate and the whole building is fascinating. On our tour a few people left early because of the heat (the house has no AC) so if you are super sensitive be warned, it is also not handicap accessible. BUT I totally recommend a visit (honestly the heat is not even that bad)

Fascinating history.. eye opening how slaves built and worked at this house, and the famous people who have passed through here, such as George Washington and British generals. Beautiful park, too!

A nice place to go if you are in the area. Great for a date or with family. You can learn a bit of history with a self guided tour. It's not to big so you don't have to spend too much time there. Hours are a bit limited, so check before you go. You can also make a reservation ahead of time. Affordable $5 for adults and free for kids under 12 years old. You can enjoy the park afterwards. Food choices in the area are limited.

Free admission every Wednesday! The staff are genuinely nice and helpful. At the reception, they'll give you a self-guide booklet to help you better appreciate the three-story Dutch house, the generations of the Van Cortlandt family that called it home, its furnishings, and its historic significance. My visit lasted an hour.

Creepy little house. Too bad the only room one can freely roam is the slave quarters...says a lot about the museum, but besides that very good ambiance.

I LOVE this place! It's a little slice of peace in a chaotic city! Every time I visit there's always more to notice I you just take the time to look!

It is fun to hang out on the lawn! The house is awesome too and they recently added the slave quarters to the tour. Very well run museum.

Beautiful old trees, lovely grounds to walk around and get away from the brick apartments. Pretty flower bed to pose pictures by. From June-Sept there are goats eating the overgrown areas in back. They close the gates at 4 but surrounding park is open later.

Interesting historical site, and the oldest house in the Bronx. It dates back to the colonial era.

This is a beautiful house that has lots of history. Once you reserve, you can walk through it alone or with a guide. We were the only ones touring and went without a tour guide so it was as if we were visiting an open house. Tickets are free if you have a NYC ID

The Van Cortlandt House Museum is an extraordinary historical treasure nestled in the Bronx, New York. As the oldest structure in the borough, this Georgian-style mansion dates back to the 18th century, a period during which slavery was legal and widespread. Legend has it that the Van Cortlandt Family, a prominent mercantile clan, had the house constructed by African slaves. The family also established and ran a grist and plantation mill on the estate.

We came when it opened. We are lucky to have a guided tour of the house. Our guide was very well informed and passionate about the story of the house. The house was small but filled with history. We have learned a great deal about local history! The tour lasted about an hour, but we would love to stay longer to hear more stories.

What a lovely and awesome experience!! Was greeted by Morena, very warm, friendly and well informed host. Her knowledge of this historical property is on point. Her spirit is representative of this house and beyond. I was lucky enough to be there when Paul, a historian of this house ( and so much more in terms of New York History) guided me with a personal tour. Paul was able to answer EVERY question I asked and also teach me things I didn't know about the times then... and now. What a valuable experience...More should know and come to visit this museum, both kids and adults Its a unique New York experience" back in time" that reflects our " now in time"

This place is such a gem. Heading up on the subway from the city takes a while, but once there, it's a beautiful setting. The house and land have such great history. We found it very worth the trek up.

the self-guided tour is pretty informative, and this historic house has better artifacts than similar places in prospect park or dyckman farmhouse.

Awesome museum. Love how the house was preserved and kept original inside. The grounds around the house were beautiful. Hostess was very nice also

A cute museum definitely geared a little young. My only issue is that I haven't seen it open in like... five years? And I pass by it minimum three times a week DURING its working hours. Is something going on?
