We loved it! We spent 3 hours with our 3 children ages 5-9, and we didn’t realize we’d been there that long! The self guided tours were easy to follow. You can choose to stay on the main level of the ship to get some of the history, watch a film in the theatre, and walk out onto the deck. The stair wells are unsurprisingly steep. Well worth it though if you’re able to go up and down! The museum where you first come in has tons of aircraft. The submarine was a nice bonus. Veterans discount, active duty free/active duty family at discounted rate :) 100% recommend!

The hubs is a history buff, so we knew we had to stop at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park on our way back to Texas. We should have planned for more time! Parking is $5, so you can enjoy all the outdoor exhibits. To visit the USS Alabama is an additional fee, but there are discounts for the military and AAA members. Here's my first tip: plan for a 3 to 4 hour trip. We spent a good amount of time on the first of three self tours. The battleship is astounding! I cannot say that enough. Everything looks so small from afar and then you're standing beside the biggest guns you may have ever seen. That changes the conversation. Keep in mind there are other exhibits on the ground, so wear your walking shoes. That's tip number 2. We parked the car and walked all the way to the dock to get a great view of the battleship. Here's the last tip: bring your camera and have a good time. And do watch the film. It's about 25 minutes and it's a great history lesson.

Let me start by saying that I'm personally not affiliated with any branch of the military, nor is my wife. We were just looking for something to do in Mobile since we were only there for a day, and we sure glad we ended up going here. The stores and information told throughout the self guided tour really put into perspective what these brave people lived through. The memorials and information about the captain, officers and crew really touched us deeply. This is a great way to honor their sacrifices and effort. Well done! As for the tours, there are 3 colored routes you can take, Yellow, Red & Green. All are self guided and all start from the same position. You'll easily spend a few hours if you do all 3 routes, so keep that in mind. Also, try and stick to the markings and the paper they hand out, it will prevent you from losing your position and potentially skipping something. Traversing each level of the USS Alabama was very fun in itself, just be careful going up and down the ladders and it can get steep and narrow. The views from the upper levels of the freaking awesome and the engine room and sleeping quarters in the bowels of the ship are super interesting. If you get the opportunity, do yourselves a favor and check it out at least once in your lifetime!

Super cool. 100% worth going. If you are on of those that is going to stop and read all the signs and look at every nook and cranny. You need a solid 5 hours for the ship the sub and all the planes. Pack a lunch there is no food offered on site.

The USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park is a must-see historical location in Mobile, Alabama. Within the park, you can tour the grounds and the pavilion with aircraft, tanks, artillery, boats, and memorials to explore during your visit. The USS Drum submarine and the USS Alabama Battleship are both WWII vessels you may board and tour. Discover how the USS Alabama was saved from the scrapyard in Puget Sound and brought to the Memorial Park. She is a well-kept historical landmark that had a extraordinary career.

Wow!!! This place is just amazing. The USS Drum is the best preserved submarine I have ever saw. There is military aircraft on display that I have never seen before, including a B-52 and A 12. There were tanks too. Of course the main attraction is the Battleship Alabama which is restored to perfection, and it still in the process of more restoration. It looks like the crew is just gone on shore leave. It’s an amazing place.

The folks who handle this park have truly done a wonderful thing. With the limited support they get, things keep improving and more and more history is restored! The USS Drum and USS Alabama are great places to bring your family! They have a great system for you to view the ship and have done a wonderful job at preserving these two great monuments! They also host several events throughout the year! If you are any where near or just love history this place is for you!!!!! If you go make sure to plan a full day! They have so much to view and read. They also have a gift shop and food cart!

A must-see! It’s a self-guided tour that was kind of difficult to follow but even if you just wander around you still get the full experience. Be prepared to climb lots of “ladder stairs.” I’m afraid of heights and it was a little difficult for me. A section was being renovated while we were there. Plan on several hours to see everything. There’s a nice display of historical information, planes, vehicles, etc. you can walk thru. Also, don’t forget to visit the USS Drum too. It’s a shorter tour but really cool. Overall it’s an amazing piece of history not to be missed!

This place was awesome. Enjoyed the rich history. Enjoyed the submarine experience. Above all my favorite thing was the engine room of the shop. Hands down some of the coolest things. Our scout troop stayed the night and I would have enjoyed spending more time on board had I of known they allowed people to explore so much of the ship. This was fantastic for the boys to explore around just as much as it was for the adults. I absolutely recommend visiting and staying the night if you can. Be aware the racks you'll sleep in are very rigid so expect to basically feel as though you slept on the floor. Hope this is helpful.

It’s always been a dream of mine to be around all these massive machines, the boats, the big ships, the tanks, the planes, the helicopters and the submarine, all super cool. this was so fun going here taking a look inside of these beautiful piece of history, i recommend for anyone to go, tourist or local. Super fun and i don’t think you’ll regret it. Also the museum building has some pretty cool things to it as well.

This battleship is incredible! We had never done anything like this before and it was a great experience! You can tour at your own pace, which is very much appreciated. It was so hot when we were there, but of course to be expected. The ship itself is fascinating. Highly worth it and very highly recommended if you're visiting Southern Alabama. We were in Orange Beach, but it was definitely worth the trip out there.

We loved this Memorial. The indoor displays were interesting, and both the submarine and ship tours were excellent. Outside, there are several memorials to different wars. Very worthwhile. This is not supported through federal or state funds. The small fee charged goes to keep the place running.

Amazing experience! We visited USS ALABAMA and USS DRUM with family (two adults and three small children) and had a great time. Nevertheless there are some downsides about this place. It’s a self-guided tour so if you’re familiar with military history/service then lot of the things are pretty much self explanatory. However, for those who’re not familiar with military equipment and history this experience may not be so much fun. Also, be prepared to go through very tight entrance/exit and steep stairs. If you have knee problems you may not be able to fully enjoy this visit unfortunately. Moreover, admission rates are rather high in my opinion ($18 per person regular admission for adults and $15 w/Veteran discount + $5 parking fee no exceptions) for it being a public memorial park. It would’ve been nice if the rates were somewhat lower. Even with a veteran discount the rates are still high. Fees really add up especially if you’re visiting with a larger group. Lastly if you have a wheelchair or a baby stroller/wagon you’re going to have a problem accessing 85% of the park site. All in all there’s plenty of interesting and fun things to explore. You can take lots of interesting and unique pictures in and around the battleships. Our family had a fun and enjoyable visit. If any of the above mentioned “issues” don’t bother you then this a great place to visit for sure.

a lot to see. Impressive displays inside and take your time going thru the battle ship and sub. 3 to 4 hrs will do. No restaurant on site. $5 and parking fee $18 for adults are good prices but bring 20s and 10s. All locations including a nice gift shop won't take any bill higher than a $20. Credit cards accepted as well. Enjoy and pride in our armed forces is what you will leave with.

This experience was amazing we spent 6 hours touring this site. Everyone should visit to better understand history. This museum provides a deeper appreciation of the sacrifices that were made defending our freedom. Donations are appreciated to help preserve this priceless piece of history! The retired volunteer service personnel were a wealth of knowledge. This would make a great class or group trip.

Wonderful tour - self guided. Needs a bit of resigning - we got turned around a few times. Lots of steps and ladders but it appeared that one tour was handicap accessible. Took a couple hours to go through. There’s a sub, some aircrafts, and the ship.

A wonderful complex with more than just the USS Alabama ship! The airplane hangar has a variety of airplanes that were used in a few wars with their history. The submarine is also great, on-site, and the views from both the decks of the submarine and ship are so beautiful. A definite must stop if in the area.

Extremely fun place to take the whole family. I would plan on 2.5 hours for USS Alabama and another hour for USS Drum. Gift shop has some fun memorabilia so plan on spending a little bit of time there. The inside of the ship can get very warm in sections with less air conditioning. Definitely bring plenty of water and good walking boots! Very educational and informative. The self guide tour paths are clearly marked out so you will not get lost. Highly recommend doing the outside (yellow) tour early in the morning while the temperature is still low. There are plenty of good restaurants nearby. The cafeteria at the memorial did not have any staff so I was not able to eat there. Will definitely be back with more family member in the near future!

This was an amazing stop! My family and I have been wanting to visit for several years and we were finally able to make the stop. It was incredible! The day we were there, they had an SR-71/A-12 expo with pilots from the SR-71 talking about the A-12. We were able to see inside the cockpit and talk to the pilots. I’ve been really interested in these planes for about 30 years, so to visit with a pilot, and be that up close to the cockpit is a memory I won’t forget soon. The battleship was so fun to see too. We’ve visited the USS Midway, and this tour isn’t as structured or have as many volunteers, but seeing how the ship works and the seaman operate is displayed very well. Being able to climb in to the turrets and explore the bowels of the ship is interesting, fun, exciting, and memorable. I HIGHLY recommend visiting!!!!

It was AMAZING! There was a car show and I was there to pick up a truck as I drive for a transport company! The pics I took were very cool and it was a little emotional for me because my mother and father was takin a tour in 1965 of THE USS ALABAMA Battleship and my mom went into labor with me lol, so I was almost born on the USS ALABAMA! I didn't get to tour the ship as I was there late in the day, but the next time I'm through there I will stop and take the tour! Great experience!

Amazing experience seeing fighter jets of all kinds and some helicopters. So cool. They have some very rare equipment and even an sr71 blackbird. Or maybe an a12 not sure but it's amazing to see pieces of history right in front of you. Then you go on a historic battleship and it's so well preserved and there are amazing exhibits and tours to walk around a historic battleship. So glad they kept it around to share with new generations and i hope they get enough visitors to keep up the funding. It's fantastic.

Of all the ship memorials, that I have been to, this is one of the best. Great access to the ship. Three well marked tours that are self guided ( yellow tour is not well marked however). Reasonable rates. Good for families to explore and show history. In addition, a submarine, many aircraft and army vehicles are present. Also, memorials to several US wars, also good to remind children.

We loved the 3 different self guided tours with the arrows and the numbers to follow, it was excellent and super easy! Fascinating piece of history with little factoids all along the tour routes. The inside was nice with the a/c but topside was awful with the heat, we really wanted to go all the way to the top but the metal rails were burning our hands. The hanger with all the planes was awesome as was the sub, the USS Drum. There really needs to be a light at the entrance/exit to the park because getting in and out was a nightmare. All in all a great experience though and lots of fun.

This is an amazing memorial museum. There is a ton to do and even more to see. We did self guided tours on the Alabama Battleship, and on the submarine. We enjoyed spending time exploring and comparing the ships. We have been to other Navy boats and this was great. This was the first battleship we explored so it put all the guided missile cruisers and smaller boats into prospective. This thing is huge. Bring your walking shoes. Check out those 16 inch guns and the rounds for it. Worth every minute ! Plan to bring the family !

It was fun to explore this submarine. The stairs are steep, small doors, and a tight fitting in places. This is NOT a negative thing. It would just not be idea for someone in a wheelchair or someone that can't handle small spaces. It is clean, beautiful, and amazing to see.

We spent hours here exploring the ship and submarine. So many places to explore, up and down stairs (wear comfortable shoes). The ship is well-maintained and you will learn a lot about the sailors life at sea. The tour is self guided, so make sure you grab a brochure. It's super big and you're able to go into most of it. Take your time and really appreciate all the work they've put into maintaining this amazing ship.

A fundamental place to visit if you appreciate history and aviation/mariner science. They have added so many new exhibits and artifacts, along with the restored submarine that you can enter and explore, and new restored spaces inside the USS Alabama. A lot to see and appreciate. What a wonderful place. It is loaded with so much memorabilia from keeps, planes, submarine and of the USS Alabama battleship. Self guided tour of everything but very informative plaques and papers and the battleship is well marked with colors and numbers. You can go into both the submarine and the Alabama. So much history and so much you don't know. The only problem is it can be cold and slippery. Make sure you dress for it. Plan to spend 4 hours easily.

I loved the self guided tour to go at your own pace and see so much of the battleship. The history is amazing. However, keep in mind that to view the different levels, you need to go up and down several stairs with a high incline and some narrow openings. Worth it to see. Also, liked the other old military aircraft and vehicles in the park.

If you are a fellow Submarine Lover ❤️ the USS DRUM SS-228 Museum is your best bet within driving distance. This sub served during WW2 from 1941 until after the war in 1946. Somehow she survived a mind boggling 13 war patrols. With the USS Clagmore currently closed for refurbishment this is your best bet. DRUM also appeared in the STEVEN SEGAL Motion Picture UNDER SEIGE as a German U-Boat.

Those submarines they built in WW2 are bigger than you think when they are displayed out of the water. Even better, you can tour it from stem to stern and see every knob and dial. My mind whirled when I considered what it took to run it, especially in battle conditions.

What an amazing place to spend time, learning about history, and experiencing some of it firsthand. While we arrived late in the afternoon and decided to wait to take a tour of the ship, my son and I were able to spend a couple of hours looking at all kinds of military aircraft and other hardware. Even got a chance to talk to some of the airmen who were restoring some of the old aircraft. An amazing experience, and one that we will definitely return to again and again.

Took my kids, and we all enjoyed it. Only thing is how hot it was outside. However, parts of the ship and submarine are extremely cold. It was nice. A lots of history and very huge ground to cover. The self guided tour took us about 2 hour, but time flew by.

Pretty awesome park. It should be noted though, it’s 5$ to get in and then 18$ to actually see the boat. So total 23$ for an Adult!! It was so worth it though. Ship was really cool. Make sure to take the tour guide paper book so you know what there is to see. The submarine and museum was also really awesome. I’d say you could spend a good 2-3 hours here. Longer if you take your time and appreciate what there is to see!

There is so much to see and everything is well cared for. It is too bad that the self guided tours lacks any information aside from notating stops. And the ship itself doesn’t have much in the way of placards. The submarine is much better in terms of descriptions. This would be an excellent museum if everything was well labelled with a good dose of storytelling prose. Expect to spend at least 3 hrs

It amazes me how something like this was ever built, or how it's survived as long as it has. It's clear that they take very good care if the Alabama and Drum. Hats off to all the workers and volunteers of this place. Our visits are always quick here. It's really hard to keep 5 young kids together in a place like this. But everytime we visit the kids are always talking about it for days. The battleship can get extremely hot and humid inside even though they have parts of it air conditioned. Be sure to take your time and bring a bottle of water. I you could easily spend an entire day here exploring and learning. But they closed down the concessions stand so plan on either bringing, or leaving to get lunch. The bathrooms were clean, and every employee or volunteer we encountered were very nice and helpful. We've been here several times over the last few years and it's become a regular stop for us on our way to the gulf coast. Keep up the great work on preserving this amazing part of history!

Fantastic! This is the best one word I can give this visit. Everything from parking to exploring was fantastic. This ship is huge it has so many levels and things to see and learn about. These is also a submarine, airplanes and tanks to see. Highly recommend visiting and then after your visit plan another one because you are sure to miss something on the 1st.

Cool, old battleship (and submarine) to explore. Self-guided, decent information, good directions with maps. Interesting history with a look at a WWII battleship. We got there on a Saturday morning just after opening & it was easy to navigate. Was getting pretty busy by 10:30.

Great place to visit to see part U.S. History. Plenty of airplanes to see as well as th your of the USS Alabama and the USS Drum. The Memorial Park has been around for a while now but they provide great knowledge and history the planes and ships. Great place to visit if you need something to do in Mobile for good 2-3 hours. Worth checking out if you are visiting or haven't visited one before. It's amazing what the ship when through as well as learning about the sailors and marines on the ship and boat. Free for active duty military and provide discounts for senior or other memberships.

Absolutely loved this place!!! Everything was amazing! I loved it more than my children lol. It's definitely a must see! Very worth the time and money. Will probably go back the ship is so big I know there's things I didn't even get to see yet.

Awesome museum ship with a ton of exhibits. There was a lot of access to various areas of both the USS Drum and Alabama. One very unique aspect of the Drum is that you're able to climb a vertical ladder to take a look inside the conning tower! In Alabama, you can take a look at one of the 16" handling rooms, gun plot, take a look inside one go the 16" turrets, see the brig, various store rooms, along with the engine and fireroom. There is a lot of really cool stuff to see. It's definitely worth a visit!

We visited the USS Alabama park in June, 2023. You must pay $5 just to park, before they charge you again to go inside. I personally feel that the parking fee was unnecessary, and fleecing the public out of extra money. Then they charge folks a good amount to enter. I know it takes money to keep things going. But come on. It was very crowded being the weekend. It was also very hot out. So people looked like they were dragging quite a bit. Yes it took a toll on us. We didn't spend anywhere near the time as we normally would have. Thankfully I have visited quite a few similar museums. So I wasn't quite as into it as I normally would be. We moved along much quicker, and even skipped certain things. I took some pictures, but didn't take a lot. It was just too much. I figured that I would post some. But I didn't need a whole bunch more of similar photos that I already have. I have also been to the sister ship, USS Massachusetts a few times. So the Alabama was very similar. We also visited the USS South Dakota memorial about a week or so ago. So that three of the four South Dakota class battleships. You of course exit through the gift shop, where there is plenty of items to spend your money on. But they had some decent items. When we were there, the squished penny machine was broke. Oh the horror! The planes and tanks and other things were just awesome. I could probably spend days here. But the other half is way less enthusiastic about my passions. She's been a good sport lately, so I throttled back a lot on the Alabama Park. But I cannot recommend enough for folks to visit and remember or better yet, learn. If the young folks could just learn a little that they'll remember, it would be worth it.

Unbelievable museum! Wow! IMPORTANT: It was a lot of climbing steep steps and squeezing through openings. It would be hard on the elderly. I managed to see everything in two hours. I was very impressed and amazed at the quality of the Battleship museum and how neat it was to see the real authentic, frozen in time equipment. It even smelled like 1940.
