This area is easily accessible from Hawkstowe rail station as there are numerous entrances along Wilton Vale road. On this visit we drove down to where a gate stops further access on Wilton Vale Road. This seemed to be a popular area for walkers and birdwatchers alike. We even came across a group of youths who had cycled down to the wetlands where they were enjoying fish and chips (Not sure where they bought it as there appeared to be no shops nearby). There are no public conveniences in this part of the park but plenty of signs to help guide you around this large area. We intend to visit again to explore some more as there appear to be a lot of walking track options.

True wildlife, not influenced by people.

We went to Morang Wetlands to see the Kangaroo mobs. We arrived on Friday, March 13 after 6:00 pm. Animals tend to eat at dusk. The signs for the park indicate that the park closes at 7:00 pm, so we had to make it quick. It was rainy and chilly, but we got out to try our luck. About 5 minutes into our stroll we came across about a group of 12 kangaroos and then a group of a few more. When reached a large field we found it full of kangaroos, maybe 40 or 50. We stayed back and watched them. Two kangaroos persistently boxed each other. Had we had more time and more enjoyable temperatures I would have loved to spend several hours exploring the wetlands further.

Lovely wetlands with some decent gravel paths suitable for any bicycle (can be quite muddy after a good rain). There are some signage but overall an untouched piece of native bush with plenty of wildlife. One of the paths leads to the historical Le Page homestead and picnic grounds. Gorgeous veiws in Spring and Autumn with some old European trees.

Fabulous wetland escape on the outskirts of Melbourne. Saw about 200 kangaroos in one visit.

Good for a walk. Lots of Kangaroos playing around. Don’t get too close or you may get kicked and that won’t end well.

Nice and relaxing walk, spot a group of kangaroos, love sitting by the pond watching ducks. Wear waterproof footwear on/after a wet day.

Lovely spot to see some wildlife. Not so many people around at all. Really peaceful. Highly recommend if you like a quiet walk with pretty landscape.

Nice view , good for holiday

A beautiful place to wander with walking tracks heading off into many different directions. Kangaroos abound and the birdlife is terrific.

This is the best place to see kangaroos around Melbourne. If you visit in the evening after around 6pm you will most likely see large groups of kangaroos grazing in the open fields. If you are really lucky you may even spot a fox or echidna.

Must visit with your family

A nice suburban place with a leisure walk into the bush. There are kangaroos roaming around. So this is for someone who does not want to go to the zoo to view them. We had an elaborate encounter with the Aussie national animal at this place. It was absolutely worth the visit. Not very far from the city, this is a good picnic place too. The land can be a bit swampy after a shower so it is advised to wear good tramping boots. As usual the advice - "no messing with the kangaroos" stands. Well recommended.

Hidden gem in South Morang. Lots of wildlife and beautiful landscape. Easy walk.

Nice terrain and nature. Lots of wildlife including kangaroos echidnas wombats swans. Easy location to get to by road. Short walk from parking area to the entrance to Wetlands tracks

Beautiful walking trail that can be explored on a light walk or a full hike, picturesque rolling hills, trees, creeks and cliffs, it's very beautiful on a sunny day. Very quiet peaceful, and can hear birds chirping and sometimes see Kangaroos on a daily walk

Goregeous! The staff have done a lovely job maintaining the park, there is lots of wildlife to see, just keep your eyes peeled!

Easy walking with an abundance of kangaroos and waterbirds, keep your eyes peeled for raptors and a wealth of other bird life. No dogs and not suited to prams or wheelchairs

Today I went to Morang Wetlands, but I can't see a kangaroo at all. So I ask someone who lives nearby where I can see a kangaroo, he said that I need to go about 10km from here to see wild kangaroos. Today is my last day in Mel. I feel really disappointed T.T

Good maintained paths, great grasslands. Not much shade covering the paths. Perfect for mountain biking also

Lots of Kangaroos here when I went, just be aware of the bull ants! 🐜 they sting!
