Masada is a very small, quite hospital with fantastic nursing staff on the ward, all except one who was extremely nasty and made you feel like a nuisance, which is why they are getting 2 stars. However, the theatre, recovery room and the anaesthetist I had were so bad that a complaint had to be made. Every thing else about my 'care' was a massive issue. I was kept under the Bair Hugger, a heating blanket, to allow my awful veins to come up to the surface. But when I was transferred into theatre, I became so cold that I was shivering so badly, with my teeth chattering and asking for a blanket constantly, yet I was totally ignored and laid there freezing. I was also not warned by the anaesthetist that he was going to give me a muscle paralysing drug that scared the life out of me when I could no longer move at all PRIOR to being made unconscious. Even my doctor had no idea that he was going to do this and asked what the drug was that he was putting in my IV? In recovery, I awoke in severe pain, but one of the nurses snapped at me that I couldn't be in pain as I had only just regained consciousness. As a nurse myself, that makes no sense at all. She was so rude that I just laid there crying and I refused to say, as I was constantly asked, why I was crying. When another nurse finally realised that I was in significant pain, she went to find my anaesthetist because although we had discussed pain control prior to surgery, he had NOT written me up for anything or set up the PCA (Patient Controlled Anaesthesia) as planned. I was told that he would come and see me in around 10 minutes, but he failed to show up at all. After being transferred back to the ward, the catheter was left in my bed instead of hanging beside it and wasn't found until the next day. So, I ended up with a massive urinary tract infection (UTI). The nurses were trying to get the anaesthetist to come to my room to set up the PCA but he never arrived at all. And it took them another 3 hours, so around 7 hours after surgery, to finally get it going with a weak dose of pain medication that did nothing to control my pain at all. So, I was left in constant pain for the whole, entire time in there. In the 5 days that I was in the hospital, I had ONLY 1 wash and my bed was changed only once too!!! When I finally got home, I not only had the very bad UTI to deal with, but because of the lack of basic hygiene I was afforded, I developed a severe infection in two of my large wounds. The rooms are also very poorly designed and you can barely move in the bathroom, making it almost impossible for the nurse's to assist in giving you a wash or shower. For some reason, they have those tiny, skinny, side sinks that you can't really get your hands in. And as I was admitted at the time that COVID had just started to take over, hand washing was paramount. I was given a feedback form which I detailed the whole mess of an admission in and asked that someone for someone to reply. As of almost 11 months later, I am still waiting for someone to get back to me. Which I have given up hope that, that will ever happen. So, now I will have to contact them to speak to someone about all of the issues. Unless they really don't care because the vast majority of reviews that are given about this hospital are glowing and about the Mother & Baby Unit instead. I will NEVER be admitted to this hospital for surgery again as the whole thing just upsets me so badly that I just can't face this sort of lack of care by the majority of staff. Although this is the hospital that my surgeon work's from for a surgery that I desperately require to allow for my surgical implant for pain again. The carparking is the worst of any hospital too. The carpark is so tiny that it's useless. With many of the actual carparks for doctors and about 5 for visitors and only 1 disabled park. Trying to get out of this carpark when there are cars trying to get into an already full area is impossible and a very poor design. So, do yourself a favour and park in one of the side streets.

Easy to access. Great that there was access to free street parking. The cafe in reception didn't open weekends which was a shame. Hospital food was much better than other hospitals in Melbourne. Visiting hours were limiting, especially for those of us who work outside the 9-5 workday. Rooms were well maintained, cleaned, and safe.

I came there for the sleep school program. I found my experience misleading. The website highlights “individualized program where they assess my infants health”. I read that and thought it agreed with my values. However what I discovered after being admitted is that the program is more about their strict schedule, not considering baby’s history, and ultimately my goals. My baby was born 36 weeks at 1.9 kilos. I went to sleep school to learn more (first time mom) to understand if her sleeping habits at night can be improved. One of my main concerns which I shared during admission is making sure it doesn’t impact her health as she was born in the 5 percentile. They took my baby in for a nap and pretty much locked her in a room with loud music (which is close to 85 decibals in volume) for two hours. None of the info shared in admission trickled down to the two nurses. My baby was already sleeping 4-5 hours at night so I wanted professional advice if this can be improved or if it’s standard given her current weight/appetite. I didn’t get to talk to the nurses about my goals, and the information shared during admission wasn’t shared. My nurse didn’t even know she was a prem baby and even said “she’s not that prem”, which I thought was messed up given my baby was at NICU for 8 days and was a hard experience for me during that time. Maybe this program works for some, but I suggest more transparency on the website on their methods, highlighting how they’re regimented with schedules to make sure parents have as much information before committing especially if they can’t answer emails or phone calls for more info. I left the place after 3 hours and appreciate how straightforward that was, but I think it could be avoided with more info from the get go.

The Sleep School Study was a horrible nightmare to me. The staff at the Early parenting center always (at least 6 times in two days) suggested me to take sleep pills because the whole environment is miserable and unbearable, with non-stop babies screaming overnight and no sound proof. I am really surprised when they suggested sleep pills because 1. I’ve never suffered from or diagnosed for any sleep issue myself; 2. The sleep pills are prescribed drugs. The program itself is also very insane, they never look after the mum’s and the child needs, but just being cold and strict, treat the babies as robots. When I was making the booking the staff at the Early Parenting Center returned the call after receiving the voice message. After we decided to self discharge and leave the “Sleep study” program early, staff at the EPC never respond or return the calls. My husband and I have called them many times in last two weeks, as they never give back my daughters “green book” on the day we left. I have explained in the voice message, we need that book for my daughter’s vaccine and regular MCH appointment. My daughter and I left the center for more than three weeks already, no one contacted me to organize a return or pick up of my child Green book, no one answers or returns our calls.

I had a day surgery procedure today and I am totally impressed. I've had a lot of hospital visits I'm my life but thus was the best experience I have had to date. All the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and and went out of their way to make the patients happy and comfortable. They all appeared to lo e their job and wanted to be there! I'm totally impressed. A massive thank you to all that made me feel welcome and comfortable.

Early parenting centre- excellent service, great stay, I recommend it to every parent. Learn the best wake windows, feeding structure and settling techniques to promote sleep. You won't know yourself and your child will get the sleep it needs. Don't bother with the "gentler" sleep schools, I tried one and left very disappointed, waste of time. Masada staff are lovely, caring and gentle. The rooms are large, food was really good, great coffee machine, lots of ward space to walk and play with your baby and interact with others, two play areas, easy access to outdoors, nearby park, heaps of shops. Baby puree and finger food was underwhelming, better to take some of your own stuff. My baby slept so well while there, and reinforcing it now at home. I wished I could stay longer. I felt supported and part of a little community.

We had a wonderful time at the Early Parenting Centre, but more than everything it was life changing for our little one. She went from waking up multiple times at night and only being able to contact nap, to sleeping independently in her cot for all night and all naps. A big thank you to the amazing team at Masada, they are extremely helpful and professional. They gave us the confidence to support our baby's sleep and we finally have our sleep back as well. We worked closely with Girish and he is amazing and looked after us and our little one so well. We were not sure if their routine would work for her, but you have to trust them and the process and it proved to us that it works. We highly recommend this program to anyone that is struggling with their baby's sleep!

I was told by numerous friends and contacts how amazing Masada was however after going there with my little one (8 months old) I would not recommend it to anyone. I am not against sleep training however do it in your own home environment. I noticed changes in my baby after we left Masada. He wouldn't look at us in the eyes and seemed disengaged. Thankfully he reengaged after a day or two... but I feel that it was traumatising for him. I asked the staff to wake me if he was upset at night however I'm quite sure a couple of the nights that they let him cry hysterically for too long. I would NOT recommend going.

They discharged me after sinus surgery having stayed overnight. I was still heavily bleeding and later the day of release I had to be rushed to the Alfred hospital needing a blood transfusion. Totally mismanaged and treated poorly, needing a script for blood blocking medicine never provided. One should not need to be rushed via ambulance to emergency after being discharged from your hospital.

I attended yesterday 19/5/2021 with my brother about 1pm and was treated very poorly but reception staff upon entry and exit. Was told we must put on a mask upon entry even though no one in the reception area was wearing one and only noticed 1 patient wearing one so I complied even though I thought it was unfair and upon exiting about an hour later me and my brother were told that we had to wear our mask through the walkways even though again no one was wearing a mask so I felt this was racially motivated and I am absolutely disgusted that we were treated this way and we will never step foot in such a place again. This receptionist should be ashamed of herself.

Appalled and disgusted by after hours reception staff member (Renata) at Masada Private Hospital. My father went missing on Carlisle street in balaclava and after contacting police and posting a missing persons report on Facebook someone kindly advised they had seen my father waiting in line outside Masada Private Hospital in the late morning. Distressed and in need of assistance, my daughter and I went to the hospital to see if perhaps he had been admitted or if they knew anything about his whereabouts. Reception was closed and therefore we called the after hours number outside the door and were put through to the most despicable excuse for a health care worker I have ever experienced. Instead of being helpful after we explained our situation, she refused to help and when we asked her to check his surname on their system, she abruptly advised “we don’t have a patient here by that name” when we hadn’t even said the name yet!! Instead of being helpful in our time of need, she hung up the phone and said we don’t have a name with that Greek surname here. P.S. he’s an elderly Russian man with a Russian surname. Not that that should even matter! My father remains missing and her help could have been invaluable today, instead we wait by the phone for police to hopefully call with some good news of his whereabouts. Shameful behaviour by a health care professional that should simply have done better!

My son’s collarbone was broken by the staff at the Masada sleep school while sleeping in their care over night. I’m still feel sick about this incident even though it was a long time ago.

If you are sitting at home looking at reviews exhausted, broken and totally unsure of what to do anymore. MASADA was a total game changer for my son and myself. I hit my limits at home and decided I needed some help. Masada came recommended through a friend of a friend and I can not guarantee it more. The nurses and support staff, everyone on the ward is a real life angel. You are constantly supported and checked in with to make sure they are aiming to reach your goals. The 5 days was a little overwhelming for me when I read that's how long it went for, but I can now see why they need that time and why you also need that time. My son now sleeps over night with no bottle or dummy. Thank you so much to the Masada angels you really do help put us broken parents back together. Thank you.

Hands down the best hospital I have been to. Staff/Nurses/surgeons were so kind and beyond helpful. No matter what time of the day it was, help was so close and always above and beyond. I was super nervous to go into surgery and into hospital. But the experience and food made it feel like a small holiday. Thank you so much to all the staff for making my stay so pleasant.

Life changing. The Masada team are magnificent, from the nurses and midwives to Dr Lou, they all play such an important part in a literally life changing experience. I have a baby with suspected allergies, would refuse bottles and this would impede her sleep and growth. I already had a schedule but she was still up multiple times a night. From night 2, for the first time ever, she had a full nights sleep. She now eats. She doesn’t cry anywhere near as much. She’s so much happier. This team bring it all together in a really consistent way. I was still a sceptic day 3 but by day 4, I wasn’t anymore. They’ve taken care of me (thanks Dr Lou) and they’ve taken care of bubs. I honestly couldn’t rate this team high enough. Trust the experts. Don’t expect a 5 star hotel experience, incredible food or luxury facilities. You’ll have a clean room, plenty of space and all the amenities you need. And you’ll leave happier and more confident as a parent.

Recently had overnight stay for my toddlers operation, i called ahead to check if both parents could be there so we could support each other. On arrival no we couldn’t, due to covid. But i could come back in the visiting hrs??? So whats the big deal anyways. As my partner was stuck in the room the whole time to deal with a upset toddler she struggled to use the toilet for one minute… As she was in the room & couldn’t leave our little one the whole time she asked if there was anything she could have to eat later in the day. Was told by someone - sorry you will have to figure that out. I just want to add tho dinner did end up getting provided thankfuly. There is a cafeteria but was closed and partner was consumed settling a little one when it was open. I told nurse on duty when i did return during visiting hrs i think its appropriate i stay and help my partner, my childs scared & clinging to their mother who cant even use the toilet. She looked at me for a good 10seconds thinking of somthing reasonable to respond with no better answer than - No, sorry finished what she was doing and walked out. (Its just general common sence tho) & covid was 3years ago so that excuse isn’t good enough anymore especially when you have to present to facility with negative tests. How can you deny a young child the right of both the parents in their biggest time of need when they don’t understand what’s happening or has happened. I tried to think of a excuse that can actually justify it and i cant think of anything. Its seriously a very poor effort Then the hospital discharged my child the following day with paperwork to a completely different person…. Hopeless 1 star for the good and helpful nurses that do deserve some good credit & the surgon who has done a good job. Telling by previous bad reviews. Masada comments back saying they would like to hear more feedback, dont bother. These issues were raised at the time & in person face to face. We could have resolved it then.

We brought our son for sleep training after 6 months of sleep deprivation. Sleep deprivation worsened my postnatal depression and we had tried everything to help our little one to sleep and nothing works. I was very against sleep training in the beginning but then I decided to give it a go and see how they can help me. The first three days were my toughest days as my son cried(grizzled actually) a lot and didn’t sleep much. After the sleep training, my son now is able to sleep independently in his own room and his own cot! (We co sleep 24/7 prior this) He sleeps through the nigh from day 2 until now! He’s now a very happy baby as he gets enough sleep and he doesn’t cry anymore when we put him down for nap. To be honest, he cries much lesser than before! We used to rock him, pat him for hours to put him to sleep. He cried for an hour just for a nap or so! Thanks to nurses and doctors at early parenting center. I can’t thank you enough for all of this. It was a life changing for us. Save our life and family relationships indeed! Ps. Their meals are excellent!!!!!

Amazing nursing staff and a sleep program that really helped our family and the sanity of two first time parents. Highly recommend. If anything needs improving it is the food options available for babies, and maybe some healthy snacks for the dining room like fruit would be nice.

I had a total knee Replacement here 2 years ago and seeing some of these negative comments I feel I must add mine. The downstairs hospital staff were wonderful. Nothing too much trouble. I was eventually sent upstairs to rehab where I was treated as a queen. It was during lockdowns so I had no visitors and the staff became my family. The nursing staff were just WONDERFUL. As were the absolutely FABULOUS Physios. I joke with everyone still that it was the best holiday I’ve ever had. (Unfortunately I still have pain in my knee but that certainly isn’t the hospitals fault)

Was in for day surgery and stayed overnight. The food did the job, as did the bed and small room. It's not luxury, but it's exactly what you need after you wake up

Sleeping school at Masada Where should I start? It was not easy at all. I cried everyday. But I highly recommend it as it worked. My boy went there when he was 14 months old. I had never had a good night sleep before then--the whole 14 months. He woke up 2-3 times every night crying and screaming. I tried everything. I went to two different sleep schools before Masada. I hoped he could sleep through the night but they both did not help me achieve it. Masada did it. He slept through the nights there except for the first night. Nurses are consistent at Masada, so you don't need to worry day shifts and night shift nursers give you different opinions. That is exactly what happened in the other two sleep schools we went. We were confused as A and B and C all said different, even opposite things. We dont know whom we should follow. I wish i have had chosen Masada earlier. Why not five stars? If Masada could cater for individual child's needs, that would be perfect. I understand the whole method used in Masada has been practising for years. They insist that bubs under 16/17 months old must have two naps at day time. My boy refused to take the second one. We tried five days there. He just cried for the whole 1 hour. The nurse wanted to continue. I took him out of the cot and I was a bit angry. We were told to stick to two naps after going home. We did for a week. He still refused it. I then changed it to one nap. He was fine after that. I wish i was listened better. In general, I thank Masada for helping my baby sleep through the night and build a good sleep routine.

Was left traumatised by my experiences with nursing staff at this so called hospital. Room on arrival was dirty (including the toilet) and there was no soap. Room was absolutely freezing cold all day and night. Experienced severe POUR after surgery and was given more water to drink and chastised for not drinking enough water when I initially complained about it, which could have led to kidney or bladder damage. Since this incident I have suffered from chronic bladder issues. On top of this painful experience, cold and rough treatment from nursing staff who acted as if I was a fly on the wall led to significant mental trauma which lasted nearly a year. All but one of the nurses clearly hated their jobs. I have 5 other hospital visits to compare my experience to never had any major complaints about any of them and never been treated badly until I experienced this place. I will keep renewing this over and over so people are aware of how bad this hospital is because my treatment here was atrocious and my trauma was avoidable. Avoid this hell hole at all costs!!!

I’ve been a frequent weekly flyer at Masada over the last 5 weeks, and at the time of writing, have one more visit left. Every visit, without fail, has been a wonderful experience! From the reception staff, nursing staff, surgical support, to just about every individual person working at Masada demonstrated an exceptional level of kindness, empathy, professionalism and support!! This is what gives Masada all 5-stars, and actually gave me a sense of anticipation and excitement for each required visit!! Again, I am very glad to be on so close to the finishing line for my recovery, but at the same time will miss my weekly visits to the lovely folks at Masada!

I resent the form this month, I called them and make sure they could see my registration forms but I still didn't receive confirmation email. I called the reception and they told me to wait. I waited another two days and still nothing!!!! I tried to call reception again and they dropped my phone. This is the way they gave help to parents

I was recently discharged from this wonderful place. The nurses were absolutely kind, supportive and always there. Thank you to, Sabine, Teresa, Chloe and Laura, for being thoughtful and empathetic to my needs. I would also like to thank another nurse (but, her name slipped my mind, after the surgery), but I want to thank her for keeping me calm and allowing me to just distract myself by looking into her eyes, while I went under. The food (I came out too late and missed dinner) was what it was, kept me full. I really enjoyed the ice cream and sandwiches. The room I had was a single private room. I had no issues. Television, a private shower/toilet and two chairs for family to visit. No complaints from me. It served its purpose, perfectly. The surgeon, Dr Krawitz was amazing. Absolutely thoughtful, reassuring and diligent. What more can anyone ask for? To the Anaesthesia doctor, Dr Szental, thank you for your reassurance, humor and kindness. This was a wonderful place to have my surgery and recover. Even the lovely receptionist/nurse at the counter, demonstrated support and warmth as she signed me in. Thank you, to all those working there. Also, thank you to the nurses who had to deal with me singing, "If I were a rich man," from Fiddler on the Roof, while I was in the recovery room.

As a concerned parent, I had received numerous recommendations from friends and contacts extolling the virtues of Masada. However, my personal experience with my 16-month-old child led me to a different perspective. While I recognize the value of sleep training, I would strongly suggest parents consider conducting such training within the familiar confines of their own home. During our visit to Masada, I observed significant behavioral changes in my baby. She appeared to avoid making eye contact and seemed emotionally detached. It deeply concerned me, and I couldn't shake the feeling that the experience had been traumatic for her. What troubled me further was that straight away they put her into a pitch-black room with beds from the 1980s, and the locking mechanism didn't even work properly. The conditions were far from ideal, and I worried about her safety and comfort. In light of my personal experience, I would exercise extreme caution and strongly reconsider before recommending a visit to Masada for any parent. The well-being and emotional security of our children should always be our top priority.

Vividly disappointed by our "stay" at the Early Parenting Centre at Masada. If you're considering taking place in the course here you need to absolutely hound the staff regarding the practicalities of a stay here. We were either willfully lied to or the staff are incompetently misinformed. We were told I would stay in the room adjacent to our kids so we could hear them during the night to help with any settling required. They insist that audio and visual monitor aren't required and we thought "well okay, not what we do but they know best." In practice our kids stayed 20m down a hallway of other kids and I was completely seperated from them. If our kids needed anything I had to trust the nurses to listen to them and wake me when needed. When I raised my concerns (3 times) they dismissed me and belittled all of my concerns. In the end I packed up the kids and left upset and disappointed. Extremely frustrating because I read through all of the negative reviews here then called Masada to reassure myself that the reviews aren't true beforehand. I encourage you to extremely seriously reassess visiting the centre. For the record I've also emailed Masada Bookings with the details on my "stay."
