A Must-Visit in Erbil We couldn’t enter the citadel itself, but walking through the traditional and souvenir shops was a great experience. The area is rich in history, and the local vendors were incredibly welcoming. We ended up buying a lot of souvenirs for everyone back in Lebanon. A beautiful place to explore!

Erbil Citadel is a rare surviving example of a formerly fortified settlement which has grown up on the top of an imposing hill, called a tell. It's not a fully functioning citadel, there are parts that are undergoing restoration and others that are not worth exploring. There is a small gift shop inside the citadel but the best shopping is at the bazaar at the foot of the entrance.
