I've stayed at plenty of hostels, and there isn't anything particularly 'bad' about this one, except that the price is far more than its worth. You're paying for the location, but the amenities provided are pretty sparse compared to what I'd expect for $60+ a night. There were two of us traveling, and we booked the private room figuring that some quiet would be nice, but it was exceedingly loud all night (from drunk hostel guests, and the street). Most of the guests seemed more interested in drinking than surfing; I only saw one or two of them out in the water.

We had a very bad hostel experience here. The room we were in had a person who was very sick, coughing and hacking all night, going to the bathroom to cough even louder, and basically made it impossible to sleep. It turned out the person was an employee who lives at the hostel.

Literally Perfect. Great location, friendly helpful staff. Hostel was clean, beds comfortable and really nicely decorated. Everything you want. The reason it gets 5 stars is the little details that made a big difference. 1. The key - it was a wristband, can't lose it and can surf with it...great idea. 2. The underbed lockers - big and free, not like I used mine, all friendly people felt totally safe. 3. No cooking/alcohol in the hostel - may sound like a pain in the ass rule, but it keeps the hostel tidy and smelling nice and keeps it fun for the people who want to be up early to catch waves. Nice bar to drink in and obviously a beach 2 min walk away. 4. Carrot Cake - pretty damn good carrot cake. 5. Good information - the two things I enjoyed most during my time in San Sebastián, the surfing lesson and seeing The Lucky Chops at the jazz festival would not have happened if I hadn't stayed in that hostel, and I met some really cool people. 6. Keep your bags at bar after you've checked out for free, so you can still enjoy your last day without dragging suitcases around. I paid 45€ for the night, peak time, weekend, jazz festival happening well worth it.

Super super Nice hostel! Close to the beach. Clean and well decorated rooms. Very friendly, fun and helpful staff (also got some good tips on free parking). Easy to store your surf gear and bike. Loved the bar downstairs for coffee or beers. Very good value for money!

This hostel is partly why i love San Sebastián so much. Amazing space, perfect location, handsome and friendly staff and i’ve met so many new friends that i will be in contact with for ever. A few weeks ago was the second time i stayed with them and even better then the first. San Sebastián stole my heart and i will come back very soon and staying at Surfing Etxea again <3

Location of the hostel is very close to the beach and some nice restaurants! Staff is very helpful and a special shoutout to Leni. The rooms could do with a fan for some more air circulation.

Stayed here for 4 nights last week. Location is ideal and the dorms/facilities themselves are good. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would recommend.

Great hostel! Clean and well maintained. Good energy when you arrive with a warm welcome from owners and staff. Two blocks from a great surf spot, can't really get any better. Everything is walking distance around there. I'll be returning ASAP for another surf getaway

My time spent at Surfing Etxea is always impeccable! The location is unbelievable, being steps away from the beach and surrounded by bars and restaurants. The mix of liveliness and calmness of the neighborhood is a wonderful combination. There are interior and exterior spaces to work and relax as well as delicious food and drink options at the bar. But for me what really takes Surfing Etxea to the next level is the most welcoming, warm and helpful owners and staff I have encountered while traveling. I could not ask for more.

Loved it. Highly recommend san sebastian surf hostel. Its rough around the edges but sweet and welcoming on the inside. Some guests even had such an incredible time they went back to volunteer or work. Nestled on a hill, and overlooking a beach in the distance which you drive down to surf too, what more could you want. Xx I'll be back

Stayed there for one night, and I wish that I had planned to stay longer. The people alone make this hostel the best in the city. The front workers, bartenders, and other hosts are just the coolest people in the world. Not to mention they know exactly where to go in the city depending on what experience you’re looking for. Everything was perfect!

It's a great, small but well organized hostel very close to the beach and they rent you boards and wetsuit if you choose to surf. I met amazing people while staying there so I'm even more impressed with the place. Really cozy and charming vibes. Food great too and friendly staff.

10/10 experience in Surfing Etxea. Really friendly staff created a nice vibe for everyone. Made some really good friends. 30 second walk from the beach. Top of the range showers and beds. Loved every minute there and I would highly recommend it to everyone.

This place was wonderful! I had never stayed in a hostel before and I was homesick when I arrived, but not for long! Everyone was so friendly, and everything is really clean! Bathrooms and showers were nice and I never ran out of hot water. Beds were comfy and I was never too hot or too cold (I was there in May). I made friends with staff and visitors really quickly - everyone was so nice! I love this place - I would for sure stay here again!

Perfect little Hostel in the center, close to everything (beach, groceries, restaurants, bars) but quiet and with balcony. Nice and modern interieur, well maintained and very clean. Super friendly and helpful staff, as well as the young owner. only downdrop: no stove in the new and in all other points well equipped kitchen. Chilled atmosphere. Thanks for letting me in, one day before the season opening!

The hostel is clean and had great vibes, but the most amazing part is the food. Seriously, try the pulled pork sandwich hits incredible.

Awesome atmosphere! The owners David and Arritz are really good people and the rest of the staff (masterchef Manel!!) is awesome too. Beds/dorms are neat and well organized and you’re able to rent surfing gear. Just a minute walking to the beach, so perfectly located too Absolutely wanting to come back to Etxea; muchas gracias!

I had some of the best moments of my life at the stoke surf house! I jumped from a cliff, got to meet so many great people (Ethan!) from all over the world (mainly Aussies) and enjoyed the best Sangria in Spain. Also, you get to surf every day. How cool is that?
