Get ready to have some whiplash and your bangs blown back! This coffee shop is one for the books. Might have a line but well worth the wait. Hung out and did some CDT planning. The store/gift shop is awesome and the coffee is amazing! #root

I just love this place 💛 The staff is very pleasant. We seemed to time it perfectly as there was no line, but one quickly formed. It would have been worth the wait. I had a lovely mocha and my friend was very pleased to get a proper chai tea ☕️ I had a croissant 🥐 breakfast sandwich that was so good, my friend had the sw quiche and we split the spinach/feta kolache 😋 Bought a small bag of the dark roast, which they ground there for me. Something to note 📝 with current construction 🚧 in town it is not obvious how to get here. You cannot turn on 5th, you have to turn into what seems like a parking lot road and go down and around a metal building to get to their backside parking, just fyi 👍🏻

The latte I had was next level good. I'm always a little apprehensive when trying new coffee but this place did not disappoint. Will definitely be back. The aesthetic is great too! I also had a delicious slice of lemon cake.

Yummy Chai Tea Latte and their little shop has some fun choices for gifting. The HU hazelnut Chocolate is delicious. A fun stop while you’re visiting The Hot Springs or Pagosa.

Nice local spot for hot or cold drinks, as well as edible treats. We had various coffee drinks and some Italian Sodas (they weren't on the menu, but the batista made them for us anyway!). We also ordered a quiche that was delicious! The little shop has some fun stuff to browse while waiting, and the sitting area to enjoy your order is nice, too. Overall, I recommend stopping in for something tasty!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Recommend! This place was recommended by a friend of mine and now i know why. Absolutely beautiful! There is raw leather. You can tell that they actually clean their machines and area really well. I got a white cocoa mocha, it was so tasty, Kaitra made it for me. There's a reason this place has such good reviews. Thank you, ROOT HOUSE!!

While walking along the river front (highly recommend!) in the morning, we discovered this yummy bean of a place. Located just steps from the river, the walk up begins to set the expectation of special. Wide wood stairs lead to an interior accented w beams and warmth. Though the line to place order may be daunting, I urge you to persevere. Staff is friendly and efficient- yet do take time to fulfill the oddball customer request. Coffee and general beverage list is extensive and does include adult beverages. I highly encourage you to consider a BM. I ordered mine spicy and found it to be quite refreshing. Great compliment to my Roots Latte. An indulgent double morning start. As I was at register ordering fresh croissants came out of the oven so yes had to order those as well. Sublime! Better than most I tasted in Paris. The back patio is a wonderful place to relax and take it all in, the waters rolling nearby, the beautiful skies and --- warning here-- the sulfur scent that is downtown Pagosa Springs. I do not mind the smell but did make a few in our group uncomfortable. Roots is a morning must pit stop whether you are strolling the riverwalk or in need of a pick up on your way to other Pagosa Springs experiences.

LOVE LOVE LOVE. Went here every day of our 6 day trip! It was so good! Everyone was nice and the coffee was good price for the quality of everything. My whole family loved and bought coffee beans and merchandise. Sad part they won’t share the house blend syrup, will miss this place.

This is by far my favorite coffee shop in Pagosa Springs (anywhere actually). I am always referring our guests to try their iced house latte :) I will be a forever customer!

London fog and matcha latte: AMAZING!!! Black coffee and in house made cinnamon sugar donut: Delicious!! Sausage, egg, and cheese taquitos: just okay, but I’m a Texas girl that loves homemade tortillas. Will be back, can’t wait to try the kolaches, praying for the oven to be fixed soon and lids that will fit the larger new cups better. Atmosphere is fantastic, Excellent and timely customer service, even on a busy Monday morning, Thank you!

There was a line out the door when we got there around 11am, but it went by pretty fast. Waited about 15 minutes or so for everything to come out. Interestingly, the food came out before the drinks, but I assume it’s because everyone orders drinks. We ordered the chicken salad on a croissant, open faced bagel and southwestern quiche for food, and the mocha, latte and dark chocolate frappe for drinks. The chicken salad and quiche were my favorites; the curry flavor on the chicken salad wasn’t as strong when eaten inside of the croissant while the southwestern flavors from the beans and peppers was just a classic spin on a traditional quiche. The dark chocolate frappe tasted a lot more like a mocha frappe in my opinion. It definitely had a coffee flavor in it, but considering it’s a coffee house, it was a pleasant surprise.

Every time I visit Pagosa Springs, The Root House is my first stop for a hot chocolate, or chai tea latte, and a made from scratch, chocolate chip cookie. In addition to decadent home-baked goods, and a wide variety of teas, and coffees, they also have many interesting books, locally crafted jewelry, hats, t-shirts, and other artisan items. Located in the heart of Pagosa Springs, they have a lovely deck, with tables and chairs, where you can sit outside and listen to the San Juan river. They're within walking distance of other restaurants and shops, and close to the walking trail along the San Juan River. The staff is friendly and helpful, the bathroom is always spotlessly clean and if you are there alone, you will easily find someone to visit with.

Very slow service..the co-worker who took my order didn't act like he had time for anybody/anything at all. They were busy but act like you care about your customer at the very least. I gave a 3 star ONLY because what ordered was good, otherwise I wouldn't have given even a 1 star due to the horrible service provided. Fix that and this would be an excellent place to go.

I LOVE the Spinach Tomato Feta Quiche, absolutely delicious tons of flavor and perfect size to share or eat solo! The coffee was good, I prefer the caramel macchiato here over "others". The coffee cake was good. The regular latte was good and the hazelnut latte even better! There's a quirky little shop within that's fun to browse while you wait for your order. Customer service was simple, decent. Highly recommend and would frequent daily for the quiche alone but can't because I live hours away so please share the recipe (wink)!

BEST COFFEE IVE EVER HAD. I am picky when it comes to my coffee and this place blew me out of the water. I ordered a white chocolate mocha. So rich and creamy. The merch and store were also adorable with great quality gifts. Located right by the hot springs and I have a medical condition which makes it hard for me to wear a mask... I was not forced to wear one.. greatly appreciated.

Cute little coffee shop with lots of gluten free options. I chose a banana cinnamon gf muffin and my husband opted for a cinnamon roll. They were both GIANT and nice and warm! The only downside is that they were out of a lot of food options.

My daughter told me about this coffee shop, so I had to go by and check it out for myself, while we were on vacation in Colorado from San Antonio, Texas. The first visit, I had a Carmel macchiato with an extra shot, it was soooo good and the flavor, wow!, soooo much better than the Starbucks version. The second visit, I had a drip coffee and it was soooo good too! I just love the flavor of the coffee beans they use. I got a bag of the Backwoods Roast, for my daughter to use in her home espresso machine! Great coffee Shop! Such a cozy atmosphere also!

Cute cute cute cute cute The coffees good, my husband liked his chai. I thought the kolachi (sp?) looked small but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ my open faced bagel was super good. I liked that we could see the resort from the patio and people watch in general. The gift shop was TOO CUTE. I lost control a little bit, but it’s okay because now I have a new cast iron pan for my collection.

Austin roots, Colorado home - we had the mocha and split the open face bagel after a dip in the hot springs. It’s a short walk across the bridge from the resort at Pagosa so we went back for the lemon blueberry muffin. Yum!

This coffee shop was a nice little stop for coffee. They had a number of things on the menu that were marked as sold out, but I enjoyed my iced latte. The roast is darker than some but good flavor. Nice selection of gifts in the shop as well.

  • 5/5 James B. 9 months ago on Google
Such a cool place to visit. The atmosphere was such a vibe with all types of unique hats, candles, journals, t-shirts etc. Coffee ☕️ is excellent. Get there early for a cinnamon roll, they sell out quick!

  • 3/5 Phil R. 9 months ago on Google
Menu online shows lower prices than the menu at the coffee shop does. For example the bagel was listed at $7.50 online and was $10 in the store. Spent $35 plus tip for 2 coffees and 2 bagels. Kinda ridiculous imo. The food was good and the coffee was coffee. Have been there before and enjoy the atmosphere but will be looking for somewhere new to patronize next time I’m in town.

Maybe I'm the outlier. Maybe I'm the one that doesn't "get" the concept. Showed up at opening time (7:00 a.m.), one (larger) party ahead of me. They are clearly regulars (as the interaction with the cashier shows); I clearly am not. Reach the register, and I'm asked, "How are you doing?". "Living the dream! How about you?" I warmly reply. "What can I get for you?" is the response. Ok, pleasantries are over, fine. Ordered a couple of lattes, super simple. Large party gets theirs. Great, mine is next (I think). Party behind me gets theirs....and the party after that....and the party after that... Had to ask where my order was after about 15 minutes, since literally everyone else who ordered before and after me got theirs. "What did you have again?" Finally got my lattes, and a piece of coffee cake thrown in for being ignored. Walked out at 7:20; again, second in line. The large party ahead of me had already finished their coffees and pastries, and walked out, by the time I got mine. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Mine wasn't favorable.

We only had the quiche & the sausage biscuits, which were really good. Their baked products looked amazing but we didn’t get a chance to get any. The coffee was good & my wife loves their chai latte. We also enjoyed their ranch water in the afternoon. It has a great atmosphere with indoor & outdoor seating & an amazing small gift shop.

Sorry what was that? Ordered iced coffee, told them with milk and sugar and they should put the sugar into the hot coffee. I got 1 mini espresso, filled up with a cup of water and a cup of ice cubes. It had zero 0.0 taste of coffee. I had to put sugar in after , but sugar does not dissolve in cold water. I put a zip half and half into it. The taste was water, water plus milk. paid a lot of money to throw that into their trash can. Horrible

An adorable cafe space right on the river in Pagosa Springs. Outdoor seating with plenty of outlets and strong WiFi to do work. The gluten free banana cinnamon muffin was amazing! Super soft and warm and a great size for a gf pastry. As a bit of a coffee snob, I was worried about the quality of coffee but the drip was delicious! My one recommendation is for the cafe to use real mugs and plates for “for here” customers as everyone eating and drinking out of to-go containers is a bit wasteful and just not as enjoyable when sitting at a table.

the muffin really did it for me and threw my experience down hill. the pumpkin chocolate muffin was Sandy on top and then almost raw looking inside as u can see when cut.. the texture was very yucky and did not taste good. my Carmel latte was very mediocre, needs major improvement super watery. the atmosphere is nice, but crowded. the merchandise sold is cute, but insanely $$$$ which is understandable. cute but wouldn’t return. the alcohol options seemed really unique and fun tho

Visiting in Pagosa for the weekend. The coffee was delicious, especially the hot lavender oat milk latte. We also had the bagel which was yummy yet a tad pricey. Loved the cabin vibes and all that they had to offer in the shop. I'd say this would be my coffee place of choice after trying a few others around Pagosa.

  • 5/5 Neil L. 3 months ago on Google New
Came recommended by a local and we weren’t disappointed. The coffee slushie was quite the treat. The coffee shop was crowded, so if you’re looking for a quiet place, you might look elsewhere.

Stopped here after soaking in the hot springs and before massages. Great location, beautiful decor, warm and welcoming. Lots of people relaxing in conversation. The chai with lavender was sensational to the taste buds. My husband had a maple pecan latte and it was delightful. Gifts and games in the little shop that are all so fun! Highly recommend and we are stopping in a couple more times before we go. Little dog at the table outside having a coffee to lol!

It is cozy and has a good view coffee shop. I would love to sit here and look at the river while enjoying my coffee. The location from the main street is a little hidden, but not too difficult to find.

  • 4/5 Wendy G. 3 years ago on Google
I made two stops over a few days. I'd give it 5 stars if it weren't for the Chai Latte that was one of the worst I've had. Flavors were so out of balance with overpowering and spicy spices and too much sugar. I took it home and cut it with black tea, which still barely made it drinkable. The shop itself is cozy with an interesting selection of curated gifts lining the walls. One of their Valentine's special coffee drinks was enjoyable. A savory kolache hit the spot, though it was over-warmed.

We bought a home here two years ago and have now had ample opportunity to sample the goods at all three specialty coffee shop in town. Root House ranks third of three in coffee, service, and food. I will go there and take up space on the deck and browse the gift shop when my wife wants to share the alley location by the River with out of town guests, but after another very disappointing latte and sausage in a blanket this place has already seen my last dollar. Furthermore, the COVID guidelines in Colorado were being flagrantly ignored by the vast majority of customers at the inside tables, waiting in line, and on the deck the last Saturday I was there.

  • 4/5 Misuki N. 3 years ago on Google
We tried their hot cocoa, & Vanilla frappe. We checked out the little shop as well that’s located inside the shop. Has a cool balcony where the kiddos hung out. Which also has a nice view!

  • 5/5 Elizabeth M. 3 years ago on Google
The ambience here is giving every one else in town a run for their money. Their coffee, quiche, and kolaches are all so good. I love shopping their decor section. They have very stylish and comfy seating with a good view of the river and hot springs. If you aren’t familiar with this place, it could be difficult to find. Take the sidewalk on the west side of Jim Smith realty for quickest access from Main Street.

The atmosphere was welcoming and the staff was nice. The shop attached to the coffee shop has some great items! The coffee, though not bad, was a little too roasted for my personal taste. I tried the Guatemala and Ethiopian and both were a little dark.
