Charming place with friendly and knowledgeable docents! Wandered down to the rocky beach below while I was waiting for the next tour. You can see the windmills on the Upper Peninsula from the lantern room!

It's a neat little lighthouse and the tour guides are very friendly/knowledgeable. Took about 30 minutes to hike there from the ferry landing. The first few minutes are very scenic and out in the open along the shore. The rest of the trail is shaded through the forest. The only downsides are that the trail can be very muddy, and once you reach the lighthouse, you can't get to the shoreline because there are trees and a fence surrounding the area

If you're up for a walk, this is a good destination. There were wonderfully knowledgeable docents on-site. As I'm not find of heights, the climb to the light was not totally terrifying!

Mild hike to the lighthouse but can get buggy so be sure to douse yourself with DEET before hitting the trail. The hike and tour are well worth the effort. We took the earliest morning ferries and made it back to Washington Island by 12:30 after hiking to the lighthouse and completing the tour. We had more than enough time to see and do everything we wanted to on Washington Island in time to be boarded on a Ferry leaving Washington Island by 2pm. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

The hike up to the lighthouse is beautiful and if you go, make sure you go when the lighthouse is open for tours. The information and stories of this are awesome! Beautiful scenic views and keep an eye on your phone’s clock, this is the line where central and eastern time meet.

The hosts/docents were knowledgeable and friendly. Seeing the light up close and looking out over the water to Michigan was great. The tour zips along quickly so no one should get bored. Getting up into the light tower requires that you go up three short flights of navy style steps--almost like climbing a ladder.

Great lighthouse to check out, little bit of work to get to though as you have to cross on two ferries and make the one mile hike from the rock island visitor center to it, but definitely worth checking out, also be prepared to either take your shoes off after you get in or put booties on to take the short tour and if you're adventurous enough you can even climb to the top of the tower and see the great veiw of the lake that comes with it and if you're really lucky you may even see a boat pass by

This visit is well worth the effort. The lighthouse is about 1.25 miles from where the ferry lands. A few steeper parts and plenty of tree roots and rocks, but otherwise flat; and plenty of shade. The lighthouse is open for tours and you can access the lantern room for stunning views.

Worth the short hike to visit on Rock Island. Interesting to learn about the history of the lighthouse and what life was like for the early keepers and family on the tour. Going up to the light is cool. Small gift shop with some snacks. Stairs down to the lake are steep, but worth the exercise to check out the rocky shore. Pit toilet. We went with 5 and 8 year olds who were not enthusiastic about the hike there but really liked the lighthouse and playing on the rocky beach. The hike back was much smoother.

The docents provided a wonderful tour. I could tell he adjusted his tour to the interest and age level of his group. I really wish that the hike was a little more accessible for people with limited mobility. I have a bad knee and the hike was very challenging.

We stayed the weekend with my parents who were Docents at the Pottawatomie Lighthouse. The place is absolutely magical!

You will take the ferry from Washington Island to get here. Its a wait to get on, and only runs every 2 hours. Be prepared its not a lot of time to ser the whole island or hike the whole trails. Its a long hike, of over an hour with elevation change, be prepared with lots of water. Its a beautiful walk and Rock Island is a neat place. I recommend stopping at the Boathouse as well. Its neat with a lot of history of the island and ownership information.
