One of the coolest buildings I've ever been to. The simplicity adds to the complexity. It's a definite must stop and make sure you start with the wooded walk, mazing through the trees with the dark structure in the shadows.

The Washington Island Stavkirke is beautiful. It rivals the ones in Rapid City, SD and Moorhead, MN. It's fun to go and see because you need to take the Ferry across "Death's Door". The island is beautiful as well.

This building is super interesting to see. Not as large as you might think but still amazing architecturally. Also a nice walking/contemplation path in the woods beside it. Definitely a must see.

I would say one of the stops to see on the island was beautiful. The walk in the park little nature trail to the side inside was beautiful even though a small. I still recommend someone seeing this.

We made the trek from the peninsula to the ferry and drive to the Stavkirke. Was not disappointed. Open to the public and not particularly hard to find, the church is just off the road about to yards via a boardwalk. If you happen to be here Sundays in the summer, the church hosts services in the Stavkirke. Check with the main church building across the street for times.

A beautifully crafted church. I wish we could have made it during a church service. I love that it's open to be seen when visiting. I hope everyone that visited keeps respecting it so it will remain open for future visitors.

A unique and peaceful experience even among other tourists. Every visitor seemed pensive and in awe while inside. If you are on the island this is definitely worth the stop.

Such a beautiful and well kept place. Wish there were more details about the history though.

Beautiful little church. Impressive architecture in a peaceful woodsy area, but right off the road and easy to get to. Has a wooden path/ramp from the parking area to the outside of the church so it's easy to walk there and more accessible. Worth a stop!

This was such an interesting little building. I learned that it was a replica of a Stavkirke which is a Nordic Midevil Church. The grounds are beautifully kept and there are delightful trails to meditate on the goodness of God thanking Him for His beautiful creation.

From what I read, the Washington Island Stavkirke is a Stave Church based on drawings of the one built in Borgund, Norway in 1150 AD. A beautiful structure on a beautiful island, this place is a must-visit if you are in the Door County area.

Super random find on the island! I still don't exactly know what this is or why...but it was pretty and in amazing repair. The short walk in was beautiful. Highly recommend a quick stop here.

Nicely restored. You can climb the 97 stairs, yet they are only like half steps. Friendly people. Wonderful volunteers. Can take tractor across Causeway.

Great stop on the cherry train tour. The woodwork is excellent and one of a kind for wisconsin.

Open when we went on a Tuesday afternoon. Nice trails around the building, but you can park right in front, so no hiking necessary. There is a 2nd parking lot on the other side with a short walk through the woods.
