This mosque by itself is a sole reason to visit Iran. The greatness of it and it's beauty are incredible. not being religious makes no difference, the Great Abbasi mosque is one of the most beautiful mosques not only in the Arab world, but in the whole world. The surroundings must also be visited, as the whole city and country.

(Translated by Google) According to the Isfahan tourist guide map brochure; The construction of this mosque began in 1020 AH by the order of Shah Abbas Safavid and continued during the time of his successors, Shah Safi and Shah Abbas II. Abbasi Grand Mosque is unique in terms of architectural grandeur and abundance of decorations. Passing through the covered corridors to reach the courtyard of the mosque, a subtle 45-degree rotation has been created so that the plan of the mosque is directly in front of the qibla. An interesting feature of the mosque is the reflection of sound under the large southern dome. I definitely recommend visiting this mosque. The entrance ticket in 1998 is five thousand tomans.

Magnificent architectural masterpiece that dates back to the 8th century. With its intricate geometric designs, stunning tile work, and towering minarets, the mosque showcases the rich Islamic architectural heritage of the region. The main prayer hall features a vast dome and is adorned with beautifully crafted calligraphy and colorful mosaics. Jame Mosque is not only a place of worship but also a significant cultural and historical site that attracts visitors from around the world.

I visited the mosque in 2019. This is one of many significant stopover in Iran. There are many interesting facts about the mosque which was shared by my guide and friend Mr Farnood. He provided so much insights that blew me away. I hope I would be able to visit the mosque again once the facelift is completed.

The Shah Mosque is a mosque located on the south side of Naghsh-e Jahan Square. It was built during the Safavid dynasty under the order of Shah Abbas I of Persia. is regarded as one of the masterpieces of Persian architecture in the Islamic era. The Royal Mosque is registered, along with the Naghsh-e Jahan Square, as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its construction began in 1611. The mosque was the crown jewel of the Shah Abbas I’s plan to make Isfahan the capital of the Safavid empire, which would replace the much older Jameh Mosque in conducting the Friday prayers. To achieve this, the Shah Mosque was constructed not only with vision of grandeur, having the largest dome in the city, but Shaykh Bahai also planned the construction of two religious schools and a winter mosque clamped at either side of it. The mosque is truly a breathtaking masterpiece, the architecture, the interior tile-work, the ornaments, the domes, the beautiful dominant blue color, all were in a great harmony to produce such an amazing sight to the eyes. It’s definitely the most beautiful site in Isfahan, and one of the most beautiful mosques i’ve been to.

Abbasi Great Mosque also known as Shah Mosque is a early 17th century mosque located on the south of Naghshe Jahan Square (aka Shah Square). Construction of this mosque was ordered by The Great Shah Abbas of Safavid. The most fabulous thing about the mosque is its super magnificent tile work of the dome and the gate with a blue background meaning the sky.

With respect to who has mentioned "why paying for seeing a religious place" I have to say I am not agree with him because if this is true therefore we should not go to see most beautiful places in the whole world! that are using as temple mosque church....Anyhow you are going to pay 3 bucks for your ticket only! to watch pure art and actually this is very nice artistic place for who likes the history and art together. Architects and painters and who love art will be a lover of this place. Please be aware on Friday morning is not recommended to plan to visit this place because it is not open at this time.

Called the Jewel of Iran by Iranian people, this big beautiful Mosque is a must see. With its tile work and classic architecture it is something to behold. Also they have shops where you can purchase a Holy Quran in different languages, also pickup literature about Shiite Islam, and also speak to an Imam.

During the year, most religious ceremonies are held in this mosque. It is possible to visit the mosque at certain times of the day. The paintings and colors of the walls of the mosque are very beautiful and interesting. I recommend tourists to visit it.

(Translated by Google) The Abbasi Grand Mosque is located on the south side of Naghsh Jahan Square and shows a manifestation of Safavid architecture. The construction of the mosque began in 1020 AH by the order of Shah Abbas Kabir and lasted until 1078 to complete its decoration. In the inscription on the entrance of the mosque, it is written in the handwriting of Alireza Abbasi that Shah Abbas built this mosque from his pure property and sacrificed the soul of his grandfather, Shah Tahmaseb. In some places of the mosque, inscriptions from the Safavid and even Qajar periods can be seen on the forgiveness of taxes of some guilds. The index stone for determining the religious qibla is located in the yard of Sulaimaniyah school. The 14-step pulpit, of which 12 steps is a piece, is one of the interesting sights of this mosque. The magnificent dome of the mosque has two shells that are 28 meters high inside and 45 meters high outside. Under the dome is the place where the muezzin stands, which reflects the sound. There are two summer and winter Alimah schools on both sides of the mosque called Sulaimaniyah and Nasiriyah. The entrance door of the mosque is also full of details.

(Translated by Google) Shah Mosque, also known as Soltani Mosque, Abbasi Grand Mosque, and after the Iranian Revolution of 1978 also known as Imam Mosque, is the most important historical mosque in Isfahan and one of the mosques in Naghsh Jahan Square, which was built during the Safavid period and is one of the important buildings of Islamic Iran is counted. This building is an eternal masterpiece of architecture, tiling and carpentry in the 11th century AH. Imam Mosque was registered as one of the national monuments of Iran on December 6, 1961 with the registration number 107. This building, along with Naghsh Jahan Square, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This mosque, which is located on the south side of Naghsh Jahan Square, was started in 1020 AH by the order of Shah Abbas I, in the twenty-fourth year of his reign, and its decorations and additions were completed during the reign of his successors. Shah Abbas built the mosque to cheer up the soul of his grandfather, Shah Tahmasb. Its architect was Professor Ali Akbar Isfahani and the supervisor of the building was Moheb Ali Beikollah; And calligraphers such as Alireza Abbasi, Abdolbaqi Tabrizi, Mohammad Reza Emami, Mohammad Saleh Emami have written in that inscription. It is known that during the construction of this building, marble mines were discovered around Isfahan, which were used in the construction of this building It is one of the most important buildings of the Safavid era, which was previously known as the Shah Mosque, the new and comprehensive Abbasi Mosque. This building represents the peak of a thousand years of mosque construction in Iran. Shaping traditions, ideals, rituals and religious concepts, maps that are slowly perfected from older and simpler types, large building elements and decorations are all realized in the majestic Shah Mosque, which makes it one of the largest buildings in the world. Unity is found. The current building is located on the south side of Naghsh Jahan Square and is one of the most prominent architectural works in Iran in terms of architectural features, rich decorations and other exquisite works. Its construction began in the third stage of the Naghsh Jahan Square project by the order of Shah Abbas the Great (996-1038 AH / 1588-1629 AD) and was completed during the Shah Safi period (1038-1052 AH / 1629-1642 AD). , Religious rites and concepts, a map that has been slowly perfected from older and simpler types, large building elements and decorations all in the majestic and magnificent Shah Mosque, which has made it one of the largest buildings in the world, has been realized and found. The whole mosque has a royal proportion and is built on a wide foundation. The semi-dome arch of the outer entrance in the square is 27 meters high and the height of the minarets is about 42 meters. The minarets above the nave are taller than that, while the dome is located tallest on it. Jalukhan, which is almost a building itself, has an inviting atmosphere that invites the outside population to seek refuge, security and rejuvenation in the mosque. The courtyard is adorned with corridors, ledges, light moccasins, and long strips of bright white inscriptions, all covered with seven-colored tiles with blue tones dominating the marble floor covering with gold tones. The two frames located on both sides of the entrance have the design of a rug on which the worshiper prays. At a greater distance, the interesting volume of this façade, which is sometimes almost etched due to its bright blue color, completely dominates the square, and in contrast to the stately royal palace, the dazzling superiority of religion over worldly power and the fundamental importance of religion in city life it shows. The front is facing north, as was the necessity of the square, but since the altar had to face the qibla (ie northeast to southwest), great care and taste were needed to prevent snooping. This problem has been successfully solved. From Jalukhan, one enters the great vestibule, which has been a feature of Iranian historical monuments since ancient times. This atrium is circular and therefore has no direction and can be like a heel on which the axis rotates. The vestibule opens to the high arch of the north porch, and from the dark depths of the man suddenly sees the courtyard lit by the sun. On the other side of the courtyard is the vast nave, a gateway to another world of concentrated glory and power. If the splendor of the color and grandeur of the stage and the dome was already dazzling, the repetition was dazzling, the melodious repetition of building elements, symmetrical arches, balanced porches, the tranquility of the large ablution pool and the all-encompassing color uniform effect that spreads everywhere, the dome is graceful and captivating. And a little onion-shaped, placed on a long stem, simple and has a very clear and expressive design, without any support or support.

In the noon for praying this mosque will be close for about one hour you can get in side the mosque but to explore it you must wait until praying finished. The royal mosque is open until 5 pm but the sell tickets just before 4:30pm.

The Shah Mosque and its associated madrasa are an important part of your exploration of the Naqsh-e Jahan square. The beautiful dome within will leave you breathless, and exploring the madrassas with their ornate alcoves and treed courtyards is a delight. A sublime experience!

(Translated by Google) This is one of the most beautiful mosques in the world. The two tall minarets and the large dome in blue and turquoise mosaic make this mosque the most magnificent in all of Iran. Emam Mosque began to be built in 1611, but it was not until 1629 that the dome itself was completed. One advantage is to first visit the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque before the Emam Mosque. Otherwise, there is a great risk that the splendor of the Emam Mosque will dampen the impression of the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque. I entered through the 29 meter high gate with the two 48 meter high minarets on the sides and further into the mosque courtyard. The gate stands in front of the square while the rest of the building faces Mecca. Emam Mosque is truly an architectural masterpiece. I stood in front of the 54 meter high dome and understood why it took almost eighteen years to complete it, it is huge! There are several halls (iwan), one in each direction. The entrance is in the south hall. In the eastern hall there are some black tiles on the floor. If you stomp hard on any of them, a strong echo is created. If you are lucky and listen carefully, you can hear up to twelve echoes. Researchers have apparently managed to measure 49 echoes!

A masterpiece of Islamic architecture reflecting the splendor of Safavid Iran. In 1598, Shah Abbas I, the greatest ruler of Iran’s Shi’ite Safavid dynasty (1501–1722), decided to take Isfahan as his new capital and had the city rebuilt to reflect the secular and spiritual power of his expanding empire. The principal result was the creation of the magnificent Naqsh-e Jahan Square, bordered by the Ali Qapu royal palace; the Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque; and, above all, the immense Shah Mosque (now known in Iran as the Imam Mosque). Color and proportion. Work on the Shah Mosque began in 1611 and was completed some 20 years later. Attributed to architect Ali Akbar Isfahani, it is a vast structure incorporating two madrasas and a separate winter mosque. The whole building is sumptuously decorated with polychrome tiles, with turquoise and dark blue being predominant. The focus of the mosque is the inner courtyard, built around a pool and dominated by four iwans, vaulted spaces open on one side. The walls of the iwans are embellished with tiles bearing floral motifs, and the ceilings are fine examples of the “stalactite” style known as muqarnas. The mosque is topped by a double-shelled dome, the outer shell rising to a height of 174 ft (53 m) and the inner shell reaching 125 ft (38 m) above the mosque floor. The exterior surface of the dome, covered in brilliant turquoise tiles, reflects sunlight to dazzling effect. The Shah Mosque is very much a living center of worship for Iranian Muslims today, but non-Muslim visitors are also warmly welcomed. A major tourist attraction, the entirety of Naqsh-e Jahan Square, including the mosque, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
