In all my years I have never experienced more glorious autumnal scenery! The colors are vibrant and there are different geological marvels every direction you turn. If your schedule does not allow for a fall visit, the latter remains true no matter what time of year you visit. So let not that impede you. Spectacular!

Always a great place to go visit for the day or camp. Love the outdoors and wilderness. Colorado has beautiful forest everywhere.

Since a national forest is the number one attraction in Monte Vista, it may seem like there's not much to do there. To be fair, however, some of Colorado's best scenery can be found there. In my opinion, even if Disney or Lego opened a new land in Monte Vista, the forest would still be number one. It is that impressive. One of the best ways to view is from your car on hwy 160, which finds a low spot in the Sangre de Christo range at La Veta Pass and soars to the clouds at Wolf Creek Pass. Wolf Creek was made famous in song by C.W. McCall for those of you old enough to remember the CB craze ( Wolf Creek Pass, way up on the Great Divide, truckin' on down the other side) and in film by National Lampoon's Vacation ( Chevy Chase camps at South Fork, flirts with Christie Brinkley, and then is stopped by Colorado trooper). Many other paved, dirt, and four wheel drive roads head off to other destinations, and there are many exciting trails to take by foot, including a cluster of fourteeners (fourteen thousand foot high peaks) near Alamosa. Not sure how to write a review of an entire National Forest, but this one like others in Colorado is beautiful, has designated camping spots, endless trails that are mostly well marked, and many camp sites have restrooms. You will find less people in this forest compared to the ones in the Northern half of the state.

This place is absolutely beautiful! Photos were taken at Trujillo Meadows reservoir. *note, most of the trail is washed out, so there isn't much in the way of hiking. You can't go very far around the lake toward the dam. It look like it would be terrific for canoeing or kayaking!

My only complaint is the incessant noise from coming-and-going of the ATVs and off-road toys. Went to the mountains for quite.

It's so beautiful now with lots of moisture. Mushrooms of every color. Lots of road riding for us. Bristol Head is a great 12 mile road ride. Take your time and enjoy the views.

Beautiful scenery...animals on the side of the road, sometimes waterfalls on the side of the road.

Such an amazing place to visit. At the actual campground their was a bear but it quickly ran away when he heard us. Beautiful views of the open sky and a fresh stream with lots of dispersed camping.

Absolutely breathtaking scenery. We drove our GMC Yukon on many of the dirt roads that are off the beaten path. It was a fabulous adventure.

Weather was pleasant...not too hot. Pictures didn't quite capture the amazing spectacular wildflowers and views. The trail riding was perfect
