The largest Portuguese center of surrealism, that's enough to say what excellence it is. I highly recommend it.

Museum, Portuguese Surrealism Center, Literary Tower, Library, Educational Service, Auditorium and Bookstore/Shop. • The Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, based in Vila Nova de Famalicão, was established on the initiative of Arthur Cupertino de Miranda (1892-1988) and his wife, D. Elzira Celeste Maya de Sá Cupertino de Miranda, (1892-1978) who they allocated personal assets to it and constituted it by statutes of October 2, 1963. The couple donated part of their personal assets, which included a set of shares representing 5% of the share capital of Banco Português do Atlântico, with a view to creating of an institution for cultural promotion and support for situations of economic need. The Cupertino de Miranda Foundation is a private institution of social solidarity, recognized as being of public utility and without any profit motive, which its statutory aims are embodied in the first words of an autograph by the Founder, reproduced on a tile panel present at the entrance of the Museum: “ Temple of Art, Culture and Kindness, be it, in my homeland: Praise to Work, Honor to Knowledge, Hymn to Love, Testimony of devotion to this People. Arthur Cupertino de Miranda, 1970.” The Cupertino de Miranda Foundation Museum is a Cultural Institution serving the community and its mission is to promote Modern and Contemporary Art, especially Surrealism. Its main objectives are the study, documentation, conservation and dissemination of its collection. With an important collection made up essentially of works by Portuguese artists, it reinforces a heritage that is increasingly representative of Portuguese Surrealism. The exhibition extends over 4 floors and 14 rooms and, in each of the rooms, there is an explanatory text of what is presented. The exhibition is presented from the present to the past, trying to establish connections between each of the spaces that, at times, may not be so evident. We start in the 20th century and go back to the 13th century.

The headquarters building of the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation is an emblematic building both for its tiled covering, divided into four panels designed by Charters de Almeida, and for the helical structure of the tower with 10 floors, 21 rooms and 34m high. The work, directed by Eng. José Fortunato Paulino Brandão Freire Themudo and with the architectural project designed by Architect João Abreu Castelo Branco (accompanied and completed by Architect Luís Praça), was built in two years – the first The stone was laid by the founder on September 15, 1967, on his birthday, and it was inaugurated on December 8, 1972 with the exhibition entitled 1st National Biennial of New Artists. Its construction was financially undertaken by the Foundation itself through income and donations from its founders.

(Translated by Google) The Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, located in the center of Vila Nova de Famalicão, Braga district, in Portugal, stands out both for its shape and for its style, which contrasts with the houses that surround it. Arthur Cupertino de Miranda, together with his wife D. Elzira Cupertino de Miranda, were founders on August 15, 1963 of a Foundation with their name, for the purposes of education, culture and assistance. The current building was inaugurated on December 8, 1972. I liked this space both for its different and original interior architecture and for the cultural space it represents. It has a Museum, with permanent and temporary exhibitions of several Portuguese painters, a Library and an Auditorium, in order to develop activities for the promotion and dissemination of cultural initiatives in the different areas of expression. Not to be confused with the Dr. António Cupertino de Miranda, located in Porto, founded by his brother, António. A foundation that must be known and visited. To remember that the building had almost 50 (49) was a remarkable and luxurious place when it happened, and still is a very pleasant place to visit.

In a beautiful building, the Cupertino de Miranda Foundation, there is, until next August, an excellent exhibition by Mário Cesariny, commemorating the artist's centenary, "In all the streets I meet you, 1923-2023". The foundation's store has a good collection of books relating to the surrealist movement, specifically the poetry of M. Cesariny, offering good discounts to the foundation's members. It's worth the trip to Vila Nova de Famalicão.

(Translated by Google) I visited the Torre Literária and it is one of the most interesting and well conceived exhibitions I have seen in recent times, Several floors where we can revisit renowned Portuguese authors, with excerpts from texts, videos, photographs, sounds, images, and many others. All this accompanied by a timeline with several ephemeris. I loved the exhibition. We also have an exhibition of some works by some of the most important Portuguese surrealists. When I went, I also saw the temporary exhibition by António Paulo Tomaz. Everything was a big and nice surprise. I also want to highlight the extreme friendliness of the employees. I loved it all, a place to go back. Tudo isto acompanhado por uma linha temporal com várias efemérides. Adorei a exposição.

(Translated by Google) Exhibition on the Surrealist period of Nadir Afonso, especially the 1940s and 1950s. About 110 works, many of them being their first public presentation. It's not the period I like the most about Nadir, but it's an exhibition not to be missed. The works “Évora Surrealista” and “Máquina de Sonhos” are well worth a visit. Exhibition open until 19 February 2023.
