(Translated by Google) Nothing like "living history" had no idea of the enormous size and cargo space this type of vessel had. Seeing up close and thinking how it was possible to build this type of boat with technologies available in the 1500s is truly amazing. It's worth the visit and it's also very affordable. The cost is €2 for a visit to the museum and also to Nau.

Replica of a 1500s ship. Interesting to visit, but hard to imagine how life on the boat might have been like, because there is no labelling whatsoever. Good for kids, as they are allowed to climb the many ladders and explore every nook and cranny. Not a good option if one has any type of mobility issues. Tickets are 2€ (September 2022) and include entry to the museum.

In my opinion, one of the best things in Vila do Conde. The ship (which is a new one, but built exactly like an antique one) is definitely worth a visit. Even if you won't have a guide or explanation signs, the ship is very well made and makes you feel the atmosphere of the Portuguese sailors. The ticket has to be bought in the museum in front of the ship and it's just 2€ (you will also gets access to the museum)

(Translated by Google) One of the beautiful places in Vila do Conde council. The ship is anchored by the river, and from some angles it is possible to see other sights of the place, such as the Santa Clara monastery just above. The river has a beautiful edge, and a few meters further on, the mouth flows into the sea. Makes for a nice walk.

(Translated by Google) Nau Quinhentista, a replica of a Portuguese vessel career of the North Atlantic from the early sixteenth century, was designed by Admiral Rogério d'Oliveira and built in shipyards Samuel & Sons, which until 1993 stood on this site even transferring this year for Azurara on the other side of Rio Ave. with 27.50 meters in length, 7.70 mouth (width) of 4.75 spit (height) and a weight of about 300 and 180 tons load, this attraction was part of the municipality's candidacy for a European pilot project, entitled "Viagem à Rosa dos Ventos", which promoted the restoration of the riverside area, where the shipyards used to be. Founded in the summer of 2007, it was inaugurated on December 15 of the same year by the then president of the republic, Aníbal Cavaco Silva. Inside one can witness several reproductions of life on board at the time, such as the living quarters of the crew, locations and forms of storage of goods, provision of cartographic material and aid instruments for navigation, artillery pieces, ballast, between others, to represent the complexity faced by sailors on their journeys at sea.

Nice little museum, but unfortunately all the explanations are in Portuguese only. As to the ship itself, it looks impressive, but its difficult to imagine how Vasco da Gama could cross the ocean in such a nutshell....

Built in 2007 in the waters of Rio Ave, the replica of the 16th century ship, built by the shipyards Samuel & Filhos, LDA, from Vila do Conde, is an important and precious complement to the Museum Régia Museum nucleus - Museum of Shipbuilding. In addition to an important element of tourist and playful attraction, it has a pedagogical function, because, built with the greatest respect for the scientific investigations of the responsibility of Admiral Rogério D 'Oliveira, incorporates the ancestral knowledge of carpenters and calafates of the VilaConde watches.
