We selected the place, because of good reviews. But unfortunatelly it was a bad choice... We ordered couscous and tagine(for 2 people), both vegetarian. The first surprise was that we got meat in our tagine, ok misunderstanding happens. But then the second surprise came which was 210mad to pay If you go there ask for the price before since there is no menu(even if the reviews are good and people say that it is cheap) The food was ok, but for sure not worth this price

Let’s make it short. Rachid serves the best couscous in Essaouira. Point. The joint is built on 4 floors with an amazing terrace overviewing the Medina. Rachid greets you as you enter through the kitchen and tells you what there’s on the menu. The couscous, as stated before is incredible and enormous!!! When you’re done eating it, he brings you sweets baked by his wife and a classic thé à la menthe. This place is a must!

Maybe this place used to be okay but it’s just not anymore. We had a terrible experience there. We were charged 230 MAD for 2 small grilled fish and two Moroccan salads. They’re obviously trying to exploit foreign guests by not giving a menu or prices before the meal. May have been fine if the meal was okay but the fish was still partially raw inside… When we told the cook on the way out the server defensively goes “if you don’t like it like that, maybe stick to the tagine next time”… skip this place.

Last time I was at this restaurant Chez Rachid with my friends, we had a great time. The food was very good. We had salad and a tagine. Everything is so fresh and tasty. The Moroccan mint tea was very good too. Honestly, we just had a lovely time. Rachid is a good cook, a friendly person who is always smiling, and is very welcoming. If you want to try a Moroccan dish, I recommend you to go to Chez Rachid. He will take care of you. Thank you Rachid. Hafid USA

Read all the good reviews and thought we'd try it. Had grilled mince meat (kefta) and half of it was undercooked. We paid 200dhs for two small plates of mince (barely 300gr), two small plates of fries, a small coke, and a small bottle of water. Not worth it and didn't leave feeling satisfied (nor full, since I couldn't eat any of the undercooked kefta).

The food was great, the guy himself is a nice person, Rachid is a hard working man, he does everything by himself, he went out to get us fresh fish from the market, all vegetables were fresh….. the building will surely need some refurbishment, but we’re here to talk about food, which is great.

Visited here on a weeknight for dinner with high hopes of great food. We ordered one fish tagine and one chicken tagine. They arrived hot and fresh and looked lovely on the plate. Unfortunately it was one of the most bland dishes I have ever been served. Very little seasoning and everything lacked salt. The fish was slightly undercooked and the chicken was very dry. We were very disappointed. Side note just to beware: we did not order any salad but it was brought out with the bread. I assumed it was complimentary. When I went to pay the bill I found out it was not complimentary. I didn't argue as I'm not the type to eat something and not wanna pay for it, but I felt that it was a bit sneaky. I will say however, that the chef (and owner, I assume) was lovely and hospitable and the food came quickly.

Delicious traditional Berber food! We had take out and he took so much care with my meal and even had me pick each ingredient and sample taste the broth. It was so inexpensive as well, we will be back!

Rachid only serves traditional and fresh food! Fish tajine it’s delicious, cooked with much love! If you are in essaouira it’s a must!

Such a good restaurant! Maybe the best couscous I’ve had in Essaouira, and I tried many. It’s super central, but is tucked in a small alleyway right off the main intersection of the Medina where the market is. Rachid was incredibly sweet, and there is a lot of heart poured into his food. I can’t wait to go back!

Really authentic dinner in the center of Essaouira Medina. We enjoyed the food and the nice and friendly athmosphere on the terrace with a magical view over the market.

Tasty and to the point overlooking the view. No messing about, just what we needed, including the price. Thank you

Rachid is probably the most hearty and welcoming chef in Essaouira. He even invited us in the kitchen and showed us how to prepare original moroccan tea before we had our really delicious tagine berbère.

Rachid gave us one of the most unexpectedly beautiful nights of our stay in Essouira. The fish tagine was delicious, couscous amazing and the grilled fish was cooked to perfection. Rachid took time out of his evening to answer our questions about the food and explain the ingredients he uses. Cannot recommend Rachid and his restaurant enough!
