Unfortunately I had a pretty horrible experience here. The staff were friendly nothing against them. But I spent $280 on discus for 5 of the 6 to slowly drop off and die within a few weeks. It wasn’t my water I tested it after every fish died. I also have 6 other discus in my tank ( 600L tank) and they are all fine. I even bought one smaller discus from another shop in between all the ones from melb tropical fish dying and that one’s okay. I’m lucky the sick fish I purchased here didn’t infect my other fish, as of yet anyway. I won’t be back to buy anymore sick discus and waste hundreds of dollars just to be upset. I think they’re quarantine period isn’t long enough for these types of fish. Pics of all dead fish & my tank ( which is fine). Probably wouldn’t buy discus from here unless you only want a temporary pet.

The store has changed owners, James has gone beware, I was charged 14 bucks for 2 plants and it says 13 on the tanks, I think the new owner is greedy Everything has gone up, and has no where the knowlage as previous owner had, I will be looking for a new fish shop, I was charged twice on a item for my last buyup, I did not reliase it till I got home, could not be stuffed going back, as the new owner is so arrogant and he would deny it, find your self a better fish shop, avoid, you can do better, so long James, sad loss for the industry.

After doing a 'Google search' for Aquarium Fish Shops I found 'Melbourne Tropical Fish'. I was very methodical in my search & comparisons & this business came out well in front with their prices! After comparing all of the prices on my paper chart my Sister, Mum & I decided to make a day of it & drive the 3 hours (one way) to collect our fish rather than have them posted. So very happy with this decision & my purchases - all fish in the shop were healthy, tanks clean & staff were AMAZING. Bagged up with large bags with plenty of air, assisted us back to the car after offering to post the fish that were out of stock currently. FYI - I bought 50 x Neon Tetra & 6 x Otocinclus. 😍 Panda Corydoras & Celestial Pearl Danio will be posted. Such a lovely experience .... the fish travelled well & look so fabulous in their new home 😍 Hopefully my photos will show in my review

Bought aquarium plants and had such a great customer service experience. It was very busy and the owner had some of his friends over, one of which decided to help me with my purchase even though he didn’t work there. He shared his knowledge and gave us advice on what was best to buy. They ended up giving us a ripper deal as we purchased a lot. Thanks so much again. Will be back again and again.

I reside in Canberra and ordered Discus to be shipped. While my order was delayed with issues due to timeliness with road freight (totally understandable no one wants their fish to arrive dead). Ravi and Dave were great my order was sent by air and collected the same day. Collection at the airport was super easy, the fish were well packed with heating pads. While l selected small/young discus they are super healthy with great shape. I would have no hesitation in ordering with them again even with delays, as the first concern is the welfare of the fish. Next time l am in Vic l will certainly be making an effort to go to the store for a shopping spree before heading home.

The staff are so kind, very knowledgeable and genuinely care for their work. Completely enjoyed each interaction. We purchased 12 fishes and they are all thriving, absolutely wonderful to have them as pets.

Unfortunately James isn’t here any longer. He was always very friendly and helpful and went out of his way to help his customers. Since his departure service levels have dropped. There is a particular lady who often works there which sometimes can be quite abrupt and a tad condescending at times. She has her on and off days so customers beware. Don’t get on her bad side. She won’t be afraid to let you know even with the littlest of misstep no matter how innocent it is. Hopefully a worthy LFS would now open in the area. One that was as good as what James had build up.

Dave and his brother are very helpful, nice and knowledgeable. They gave me lots of great tips for keeping my new discus. Fish are all very healthy too, which is great ! I am definitely recommending this business to other people!

Dave is super kind and knowledgeable. Given I m new to the discus fish, he answered all my questions patiently and give me advises which is so helpful for me as a new starter. With Dave’s help, my discus are happy and well settled in my new tank. There are varieties of fishes in the shop and are reasonably priced. Will visit again soon

First discovered these guys last year and can’t speak highly enough of this business. Staff are lovely the selection of discus is awesome. I bought 4 discus for $100 compared to our local pet store who is currently asking $180 pair for the same size/age fish.. highly, highly recommend :)

Got a tank from this place for my hermit crabs. They offered the best price and very friendly service. While we were there we noticed that they had a good range of tropical fish and some amazing axolotls in different colours.

These guys are spot on, I ordered 6 clown loaches from them and for a small delivery fee they came all the way to Diggers Rest from Dandenong. Not only did they deliver them to my door but actually brought them straight to my tank and offered to acclimate them. Absolutely awesome shop had friendly and nice staff, that were all very knowledgeable👍 They had a very large variety of cool fish, and actually cared about the fish they were selling! Whilst I was there they also had some species of shrimp and plants.😀😀 All in all I had a great time and took home some very healthy fish!

Owner is a great guy who's always willing to take the time to go through issues with him. Nice to see his new shop is up and running, it's an improvement on the last place by a large margin. It has way better parking. I compared the price of fish and the tropical fish here are mostly under 10 bucks, look healthy and there was a fair variety. All in all glad there is a well stocked aquarium nearby.

I’ve been shopping here for 5 years plus, I almost never do reviews but these guys 100% deserve a 5 star review. The actual store may not be the most flashy but the friendly and knowledgeable owners have amazing prices with super healthy fish. The best success with breeding etc I’ve had has come from their fish, not really sure why but another reason to recommend them. I visited the shop after seeing ads on FB a few weeks ago, although it's small it's being revamped & fish etc were in good health & clean tanks. Had a lovely chat with the owners, Purchased a few 3-4cm peppermint plecos - nice quality and settled well. They also have a few different L numbers & plants at reasonable prices & getting more stock in (various tropical & freshwater species) as under new management. Will definitely be back

The owner of this aquarium is incredible. I've recently got in to the hobby of keeping tropical fish. He helped me pick out some pregnant guppies to start me off. He also helped me pick out a couple of catfish. He explained the differences (some feed off the bottom and some eat algae off the glass). On top of great service he is really reasonably priced.

I couldn't recommend this store highly enough! After searching extensively online for aquatics stores in my state, I decided to order through Melbourne Tropical Fish. I required my axolotl to be shipped to NSW - it was packed carefully and arrived safe and comfortable the next morning! The staff are very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly and answered all of my questions. My axolotl is absolutely beautiful, big and healthy. Highly recommend for excellent quality aquatics and wonderful customer service, I will definitely be a return customer 🙂

We have bought many beautiful discus fish here, both juvenile and mature breeding pairs. Melbourne Tropical offer a great selection of tropical fish at incredibly good prices! This is one of our favourite aquariums, and I highly recommend it!

I went to the shop last Thursday and bought 8 discus. The staffs were kind and provided some solutions and materials to get my tank ready for the discus. We followed the instructions, however 4 cobalt blue died after a couple of hours. We managed to save the other after changing all the water and only added the bacteria solution and chlorine remover (without Amazon water and the dried wood pieces). We went back to the shop this afternoon explaining what had happened. The owner was very kind explaining what might have gone wrong and offered help to rectify any possible errors with the tank. This is definitely my go to place for any discus related question.

Open on a Sunday which is a bonus, brought a goldfish which we never seen the colour anywhere else. Price is very cheap compared to other shops, guys were very helpful and friendly. Would recommend for all types of fish, cold, tropical and even axolotl!

Dropped into the shop this morning and bought 19 goldfish. Dave was extremely helpful and gave us a discount on some bigger goldfish as he didn't have enough of the smaller advertised ones. All arrived home safely (two hour trip) and are now happy swimming in my pond. Great customer service and extremely helpful.

After being abruptly told by another local aquarium (let’s just call them AA) that they ‘didn’t need to be negotiable’ on tank prices, it was easy to make the decision to order my Juwel Rio 240 from Hi-Fin. Nuwen is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about aquatic life, and his customer service is second to none. The new location is perfect to get in and out of - no more stairs or backing out onto Blackburn Rd! I look forward to frequenting the new store, and setting up my beautiful tank.

One of the very best aquariums in eastern suburbs. They always try to keep the place tidy and get new stocks most weeks. Their marine fish and coral collections are awesome. Always loved to go back to them. Only sad part is they close early, and after work its hard to reach before closing time. Recommend to anyone looking for reef stocks and they have some tropical stocks in best rates. Love their platty collections too
