Restaurant Cafe Handicraft

😠 EDIT: This place's charm is no longer. So sad how tourism can also destroy a hidden gem. I came here again this year and the place is completely different. None of the employees even speak Portuguese, they completely changed the menu to some weird dishes like "Loco Moco", and there is no longer Port... People often mention view, Sintra, good, friendly, beautiful, great, nice, views, service, staff,

A beautiful place, with beautiful people, with a beautiful view. The food here is good. The person who made and served it, offered it with warmth and smile. I did not feel like a mere customer, but a guest. Take your time here. Sit in the garden, read a book, talk with someone, listen to the fountain. You will love it.

EDIT: This place's charm is no longer. So sad how tourism can also destroy a hidden gem. I came here again this year and the place is completely different. None of the employees even speak Portuguese, they completely changed the menu to some weird dishes like "Loco Moco", and there is no longer Portuguese food being served. Also, the price has doubled for everything. I would not recommend going any longer. (This is such a hidden gem. It looks so pretty from the bottom but once you go to the top, the views blow you away from all the different spots they have to sit. Not only is this restaurant extremely charming, the views are spectacular, the owners and workers are so sweet, BUT! The food!!! SO delicious!! This place blows you away from every aspect. This was the best part of our Portugal trip.)

We had the vegetable pie, the pork steak sandwich and the tuna sandwich which tasted fine nothing special but for the price more than okay tasting. The female server was really friendly sadly not the male server which acted as the owner of the restaurant. I made a big mistake by ordering the boiled baccaleau/cod which came with a really strong fishy smell and bitter and fishy after taste. After confronting the owner that the fish did not in fact taste like anything fresh. The owner was justifying the quality of the fish by stating it was fresh which was definitely not the case, anybody could tell that the cod was obviously frozen. But the disaster came when I tried to pay. The server simply told me that I have to pay for the cod because it was made for me. he tried to explain that to me and I quote him verbatim, 'I also don't just come to your country and order what I don't eat.' This statement was the tip of the iceberg for me, because I didn't eat off my plate after eating a little bit of fish. This behavior was highly unprofessional and disrespectful, he was so gracious in the end that I did not have to pay for the fish after I said several times that I would not under any circumstances pay for this disgusting and mean really disgusting fishy warmed up obviously frozen fish. Apparently the waiter is not good at handling criticism, which I regret because I really liked the location. It's a shame, really, a shame that the waiter or owner has forgotten how to deal with customers and justifies poor quality with 'it always tastes that way'. And yes, I know how cod tastes because I've been fishing for it in Norway every year since I was a child. I did not include a picture of the cod because I couldn’t stand the smell.

Beautiful restaurant near the Castle that attracts you with good song and the most beautiful view. There are tables indoors and outdoors, the ambience is surreal. I stopped for some dessert and a very good lemonade after a lot of sport, exhausted, and the ambience and the pancakes gave me the energy I needed to keep walking through the city. Thank you for this experience !

(Translated by Google) In this house lived his last days one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century, Glauber Rocha. He was the founder of the Cinema Novo movement and achieved the glory of being the only Brazilian to win the award for best director in Cannes. It influenced generations of filmmakers, such as Martin Scorcese who openly declared that "New York Gangs" was inspired by "The dragon of evil against the holy warrior". Thank you Sergio Vinhas for welcoming us so kindly and allowing us to visit the house. It is curious that my greatest expectation in Sintra was to find and see this house with my eyes. A must for Sintra. The views from the patio are nothing short of spectacular, and the owner is a very accommodating and warm fellow. Food was delicious and felt home cooked. When it started to rain, he brought us inside by a cozy fire. The location is en route to the moorish castle

This place is a gem. Hidden paradise in every way. The building itself has so much history and is currently an art school. The music sets the tone perfectly. Last but not least, Kevin is the best person. Super knowledgeable of the area and provided such great drinks and food locations.

Welcome to Paradise! Says the menu, and it’s true. These lovely people have made a little heaven on Earth: beautiful views, fountains, blossoming trees, artwork and relaxing music. The food is tasty and extremely good value, and the service warm and friendly.

Amazing experience I had. People here are utterly nice. They have traditional Portuguese cuisine which are incredible. Various homemade dessert to choose from. All in reasonable price. The apple pie that I ordered is not necessarily my taste, but still satisfying. Coffee can be improved tho. It’s slightly away from the popular area; its entrance is on the side of a hike trail, not so easy to find. But it is definitely better than most of the touristic places. Also, there garden/balcony is wonderful.

Food is absolutely a failure, with very small portions. Service is okay. And the atmosphere is nice. But again if you want to eat proper food search for another place. EDIT: REPLY TO THE OWNER So you are saying 8€ and 9€ appetizers?

Absolutely delightful. A hidden gem with warm hospitality and honest, rustic but really tasty food. Try the tartes de legumes. Amazing. The Laranja (orange) juice is fresh and the lemonade home made. You'll find yourself going back again and again.

Casa das Minas is the best place to relax after a long day of walking around Sintra. The view is wonderful and the garden beautiful and gives off a feeling of coziness and serenity. The owner and people working there are so welcoming and kind, they made our experience even better. The prices are great and so is the quality of the food and service. We recommend it to everyone visiting Sintra :)

This place is a real paradise, with magnificent views of Sintra. The cafe is situated on a hillside covered in lush garden with beautiful tiles, sculptures, fountain and tables located in different spots around the garden. The food was amazing, I highly recommend the roasted chorizo, and the staff extremely friendly.

A very special place in a very touristic area. Home made traditional portuguese food, served with the typical portuguese kindness in a beautiful old authentic house and a lush green garden with artistic decorations and an amazing view over Sintra. I had the bacalhau cozido com grão, boiled codfish with chickpea, and the taste was just right. For those complaining about the fish not being fresh or being too salty - in Portugal, the codfish is eaten dried and salted, not fresh like other fish. The taste and smell are quite intense in this dish and also the consistence is different, which makes it special and popular throughout the country.

The exceptional reviews here are legit. A true hidden gem and a rewarding way to end a downhill hike from Palacio da Pena and Castelo dos Mouros. Easy to find if you hike through the Villa Sassetti trail (it is your first immediate right as soon as you exit the trail metal grate door.) Fantastic owners, very reasonably priced desserts and drinks, and the VIEWS speak for themselves. Definitely keeping this on my return list to Sintra. Port wine, coffees, and crepes were all reasonably priced and stayed almost an hour just relaxing after a long hike down.

Off the beaten path and quiet. Great views with outdoor seating. Service was not great. Were helped quick but no follow up. Cash only but had no change to give back. Food was very good though. Chorizo was served on top of a table grill from pottery. Had to cook it yourself Very fun and tasty.

That's the most terrible food I've ever eaten in my three times of Euro trips, the waiting time was about 50mins in unoccupied time, we only ordered 4 x ramens ,1 burger, 2 teas and 1 water which costed $64.5euro dollars, btw they only accept cash and request paid in advance, the burger was just acceptable but the fries was supermarket chip snacks, however, for the ramen, it had one to two pieces of very dried chicken breast meat, a few supermarket frozen dumplings, very salty soup with undercooked supermarket flat noodles, and the taste was gross as the soup and dumplings were just warm, feels like someone's leftover, can't believe this restaurant is still in business, you should all avoid this place.
