The three stars are mainly because of the amazing views and location. The food was frozen squid with frozen vegetables. It was tasty but the quality of the product was not fresh. The service was mediocre and it took ages to bring the tab.

The view is good, but the food is disappointing. The seafood delight contains nothing from the sea, but some crab paste with mayo. They didn't have snail or many other things on the menu. Shrimps and soup quite tasteless.

Me and my family had the last two hours of our trip in Portugal. We wanted to spend them near the ocean and order some drinks. So we chose Surpresa restaurant. After we ordered only drinks without any food, our waiter got angry and showed disrespect to his clients. Then, they asked us to move a few times (change the tables) even though we were the only one who were asked to do so. We spent nearby 20 minutes waiting only for one sangria which at the end turned out not tasty. We didn’t enjoy not even a minute at this place and i’m not recommending to visit it either.

Fantastic location, and fresh, delicious seafood. While the service wasn't unpleasant, there were some misfires, like never receiving cutlery and finally having to grab it ourselves. If you don't have high service expectations, this is a great place to while away an afternoon.

The food is good,the view very nice but the staff is very slow and not too polite.

I’ve never sent food back until today. I ordered a hamburger with cheese. It came out cold, half cooked and there were no cheese. Waiter took it back in for 5 minutes and brought the same burger back out, Luke warm, still half cooked but with 2 slices of cold cheese this time. They basically threw the meet into a microwave for 30 seconds and slab on 2 slices of cheese. I took one bite and left the rest. Worst burger I’d ever had.

Just an other tourist bar with no interest. Sangria tasted like out of a plastic bottle for 5 time it's price. Same for fresh cheese. The had the audacity to serve it inside it's plastic can. Unbelievable 😂 Not worth of your time. Go your way.

1 star because the employee was very rude. When we sat down he immediately told me and my girlfriend that we couldn't sit next to eachother even tho there were plenty of empty tables. The bathrooms were dirty, and smelled like tobacco. Overall very unpleasant experience and I would strongly recommend any other place, either for dining or just for a coffee.

I was disappointed to see my Portuguese American family receive sub par service here. While prices seemed reasonable, service overall was slow and not ubiquitous in its timeliness

We only came here for coffee and tea. The location is unbeatable. They have a long stretch of tables for the water view. Bathroom were equipped and cleaned.

This is the worst restaurant I’ve eaten in Portugal, they served us rotten broccoli, and charged 60 euros for a dorada! Tourist trap, taking advantage of people that don’t understand. Don’t go

That's just what it was! A wonderful 'surpresa! :) wonderful food. We had the grilled sardines and squid kebab with all the trimmings. Lovely, friendly and very professional waiter. Sorry we didn't get your name. A definate Go Back to place. Right on the beach at Sao Joao Estoril. 5 stars :)))

Very tasty sardine. But if you want to try the local specialty "Bacalao", it's best to come before lunch.

Terrible service from a man who definitely didn't go to charm school.

We went to surpresa restaurant in a very sunny winter day. The restaurant was quite full during lunch time which usually mean that it is good. We had to wait around 5 minutes to get a table in front of the sea during a week day. I can imagine that it is fuller during weekend. It is situated in praia da poça with an amazing sea view! The waiter (Pedro Miguel) was very friendly and thoughtful. We ordered a "dourada grelhada" (see pictures), and it was a delight. It was grilled open (escalada) but it was not dry, and tasted like sea. For dessert we had a chocolate mousse and a lemon pie. Both choices were good but the lemon pie was specially good. In the end we paid with card and unfortunately we didn't have some cash with us to leave as tip (gorjeta) to Pedro Miguel. So we hope this review helps Surpresa and Pedro Miguel gain some extra costumers and tips.

The place is simple, but the staff is very nice and the food is very tasty and tipical portoguese cuisine. Also you can enjoy the nice view on the ocean while eating.
