Stopped by for a quick breakfast of cappuccino plus a travesseiro. The travesseiro was warm, with a gooey custard layer in the middle surrounded by a light crispy pastry. 100% would get again

It's all about the cafés in Portugal. Stopped here for breakfast, and definitely recommend a visit if out in Sintra. Bread in this country is really well made and you try having a toastie - trust me. I really liked that egg yolk pud in this place, it's really delicious!

My husband and I went to Casa Piriquita because we heard it had the best pastries in Sintra, and we weren’t disappointed! The Travesseiros (one plain and one with Nutella) were good, flaky pastry, and warm; they were very sweet, which my husband loved! I didn’t really like that the Travesseiros were so sweet, but that was just me.(that is the reason for the “4” rating). The abatanados (café) were very strong and were perfect without sugar for me. I (and especially my husband!) would recommend Casa Piriquita if you are in the Sintra area!

Portuguese Desserts 💯 Portugal is well known for their desserts with the most well known being the pastel de nata or Portuguese egg custard tart We enjoyed plentiful pastel de nata but two finds we hadn’t heard about at all The first is a traditional Portuguese pudding served at many establishments that we loved at Cervejeria Ramiro: Pudim abade de priscos or Portuguese pudding The secret ingredient? Pork lard and lots of sugar! We love this dessert! The second find is the travesseiros or pillow pastries of Sintra . Travesseiros are most associated with Sintra’s oldest pastry shop Piriquita and these airy puff pastries are filled with a delectable egg almond cream 📷 Pastel de Nata (Pastel de Belem) / Pastel de Nata (Manteigaria) / Pudim Abade de Priscos (Cervejeria Ramiro) / Pudim Abade de Priscos (Pigmeu) / Travesseiros (Piriquita) / Egg Pudding (Piriquita) 📍 (Lisbon and Sintra, Portugal)

Must-try Sintra bakery with their famous Travesseiros pillow puffed pastry almond paste pastry! Come on - have a few of those! Try all their local Sintra pastries - as they are all beautiful! Unbelievable quality for unbelievable prices - this is the perfect bakery for both locals & tourists alike. They don’t rip you off & they are super friendly too. Love the no nonsense tea house approach - choose, eat, pay & go. Loved how basic but how fabulously delicious everything was ! Must-go when in Sintra!

Very good pastry shop in Sintra. You have to stop here if you’re in the area and it’s no wonder this place has a line with tourists. The almond based creme is great. I had the famous dessert with almond filling but also tried the other top favorites listed on their wall and loved them all. The pasties here are better than the ones in Lisbon in my opinion. The pastry with Nutella and chocolate was also good

Nice pastries and espresso. Waitress brought over the 4-5 most popular. Would recommend. Would give a 4-4.5 because the inside could use restoration for a better ambiance… but nice for takeaway.

Sintra day tour & this bakery was part of the itinerary not only to jumpstart our morning but more importantly because they are well-deservedly popular for their delicious baked goods!

If you are in Sintra, please visit this shop! Do not forget to pull a waiting number when you enter as their is no formal line. We didn’t do this initially and waited longer. There is a small sign about this to the left of the entrance. We have eaten our fill of pastel de nata and we excited to try something new. Travesseiro da Casa Piriquita is their specialty. They make three types: classic cheese filled, Nutella filled, and apple filled. The apple filling was a surprise hit with our family because it reminded us of apple turnover filling. Delicious. Now we are on the hunt for more!

Quite a nice little shop and warm. It's very crowded and you have to have patience and endurance to wait for a table to be empty. The girl who serves is constantly running. I wouldn't say I tried anything different, I had read about distinct and special tastes. A little overpriced I found it, but all is well.

Must try the house special pastry. Went back for more to take with us. Ham and cheese on rustic bread was delicious. I could eat that sandwich everyday. Very nice people. Needed a quick bite for lunch and we hit the jackpot with this place.

Casa Piriquita, Sintra Portugal: Taking a break from Pasteis, we headed for quality travesseiros which is a specialty in Sintra. Casa Piriquita is the institution for that. Forget about other cafes. Take bus 434 and stop at the historical centre and say no to other tourist traps. This is so good that police, security guards and every authority figure stop by at the bar for a quick coffee and snack. The travesseiros are pillow soft and cracks off at pastry fun. The filling is soft and oozy. #eatstylishtravelstylish

Place is small and crowded. But nice atmosphere. Cute traditional style cafe. The pastries are just ok. Skip the savory ones, ours was under baked so a bit wet and not flaky at all. The pastel de sintra was good. Nice crust on top. Good flavor filling. But kind of mushy on the bottom. Travesseiro da casa piriquita(their specialty) was similar. Could be flakier on the pastry puff. But flavor was good but not worth the wait. Puff pastry with ham, cheese, and sausage was most disappointing. Mushy and undercooked. No flake to the puff. Sausage is just a regular hot dog. Lesson learned. Got the toast smoked ham and cheese. Which was huge. Enough for 2 people maybe 3 depending on what else you order. Only issue was the bread wasn't mixed well and there was a line of flour through the bread. If that wasn't there would be a 4 star review.

Súper nice coffee in the center of the old town, to try some typical desserts from Sintra after an intense day of visiting all the gorgeous castles of the area. It is a traditional and cozy place, with a very polite service and beautiful atmosphere. The beverages are well prepared and not expensive and the sweets they offer are definitely appetising. We tried “queissadas” and “travesseiros”, 2 typical desserts!

Overall: Overhyped, but still worth a visit if you have the time. The good: The coconut cakes were great, and the prices are very reasonable (I think we paid around $6 for 6 pastries?). Lots of different options to choose from, and the staff was helpful when ordering (in English too). The not-so-good: The pastries were all just, fine? Not sure where the hype is coming from. They certainly weren't bad, don't get me wrong, but they weren't worth all the hype. The Travesseiros were dry and unimpressive and didn't have hardly any almond paste in them. The queijadas were one note, and the pastel de nata weren't as flavorful as others that we'd had. Long lines and literally seconds to raise your hand (and/or yell). Food/drink: 7/10 Atmosphere: 7/10 Service: 7/10

Very busy pastry shop and cafe with both a takeaway section and indoor cafe. During peak times there's insufficient staff who are working flat out such that it can take a while to get some service and you can see many customers starting to get a bit irate, at least in the dine in area. Otherwise the pastries are kind of a touristy must try for specific Sintra famous items and they are nice. However, the famous pillow or travesseiro has sugar sprinkled on top that made it really sweet and other customers were trying to scrape off the excess sugar. It's a nice place to stop by for a break but it's not very relaxing. Go for the travesseiro and queijada as the popular items to try.

One of the oldest bakeries in town they are most famous for a traditional puff pastry filled with almond cream, it was really nice worth the try.

Just bought their sweets and taste it, but I already can say that it’s perfect! Also they have got very nice box for take away with a really interesting logo. Can’t believe they doing deserts since 1862🤯

Visited on a Friday afternoon during a tour. Tried a travesseiro dessert per our guide's recommendation. Ordered the traditional with almond and cream. I didn't particularly enjoy it, but my husband did. The restaurant itself was very cute, clean, and also had indoor seating.

Locals recommended this place to me. Takeout line was a bit long. Please make sure to take a ticket for takeouts. Dine in service was great and there's no wait. The waiter was busy but he was attentive and helpful! Queijada was a bit small. Still a nice place to taste local pastries!
