Worst experience in Portugal. Read the other reviews. It is the only place to eat inside the park, they know it and take advantage of this by scamming customers with awful food at a price that seems cheap (8.5€ for a main dish), but that it's probably not worth more than 2€. I'm sure in Portugal's prisons they eat much better. The rice was raw. Crunchy. The pasta was embarrassing, it was swimming in the sauce (cream). On top of that, the staff was rude. Try to bring a sandwich from home. And the cafeteria upstairs is not better, but at least it has a good view.

Food is overpriced and terrible. Sandwiches are prepackaged and soggy (and there were only 3 options). Chocolate muffin was good. There were also long lines at lunch time. Pack a lunch instead! The vending machines at the main entrance had the similar sandwiches in them for half the cost.

Awful food downstairs at the restaurant. Avoid and don't bother. The best thing on the menu was the Pepsi.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Only stopped by for a quick sandwich after exploring all day. Microwaved a pork sandwich for about 10 seconds and was warm and cold. Took a few bites before I realised and had severe food poisoning the day after. Ended up in hospital on a drip because I was feeling that bad, ruined the last day of our trip too. Absolutely avoid at all costs, bring your own food or go to the restaurant, DO NOT get food from here.

Tried to get something to eat, waited 30 minutes and nothing was left and missed almost our tour. 10 people were standing in line in front of us. Worst place ever. Bring your own food

Terrible service. Waited 30 minutes in line. Most of the food was gone. While some of my friends were waiting at the table, they were trying to kick them out from the table because we did not have food already, even though we were about to order and even though there were EMPTY TABLES!!! If you could walk more to the city centre, just do that instead, not worth eating/drinking/staying here. The food was also meh.

The most terrible food! TAKE YOUR OWN PICNIC! We queued for 30 mins. Hardly any baguettes left. We bought some but they were dry due to stale bread. The meat was grey. When we looked on the package the sell by date was for 1st August 2024! We wondered what had been done to the baguette to make it possible to last that long. The staff weren't friendlyor helpful at all. Just don't go there. Take your own food.

Bought a chicken & cheese sandwich for €6. Was put in the microwave for 10 seconds to make it extra soggy. Checked the packaging and it was supposed to go in the oven for 10 minutes. Either all the staff is illiterate or they simply do not care about your health. Either way, the castle is beautiful which made the experience a little better.

Clearly it’s a cafeteria / canteen and not a restaurant, but the food is just not appetizing at all. We took chicken burgers, and my friend almost threw up after eating one 🥴

Super slow and not for vegetarians! the only vegetarian option (baguette with tomato&mozarella) was not available but we waited 30min in line (off-season) They were annoyed by us asking and gave us rude intructions to go to the restaurant and get food there. Bring snacks it’s not worth it.

No soup no hot meal . Portuguese cakes and coffee in restaurant downstairs . Upper stage baguettes , Coffee and sandwiches . All for quick bite .

Stop to grab a sandwich.... DON'T BUY SANDWICHES THERE.... IT'S A RIP OFF! 2 pieces of chicken a drop of mustard....for 3.50€ ! Nice scam...just buy things before....Friendly staff though...but don't by sandwiches !

Lower floor - tasty food, no sun, enough seats - no idea why average rating is so low.

This is the only place on site open before 12. We ordered 3 different sandwiches (caprese, cheese and pesto, chicken) all were dry, terrible tasting and overpriced. Worse than airplane food. Some tables have shade on the patio but mostly they are in the sun.

Honestly don't know why the cafe is getting this much hate. The prices were steeper than Lisbon, but not by THAT much. We had the queijadas (1e each) and the coffee which was good. I didn't feel it was a rip-off. Obviously always better to bring your own snacks and food on a day out, but this was satisfactory. The only thing that bugged me is the layout - the queue is IN FRONT of the elevators 🤔

Absolutely horrible sandwich in the cafeteria. The only sandwich left was the one with pork and cheese. The bread was dry and there was no butter etc. inside. The pork dit not look and taste like pork.

Long waiting line, inefficient service and sandwiches for 5€ which are heated up in the microwave leaving the chicken inside frozen. Complete tourist rip-off! If you can avoid this place by any chance, do so!

Was almost no food left because we came "too late for lunch"... The food that was left didn't look edible at all. We took cake to satisfy our hunger and that was all...

Some of the people behind the counter don't speak a word of English (at a major tourist attraction), one vegan pastry offer but it unfortunately was not available (unsure if it was sold out or by the way the staff reacted never available at all). So unfortunately nothing to eat during the whole visit if you are vegan or have a milk allergy.

For a more enjoyable experience please bring your own lunch. The sandwiches were awful, and had to queue around 20 minutes for them. We can't remember the last time we ever had a meal as bad.

Awful food that gave my friend a food poisoning. The service was very slow and we waited in line for 45 minutes only to be told that the full menu (which was being displayed at the entrance) was not available. There were only three options- a vegetarian pasta, a tuna/mashed potato bake and rice and turkey "curry". Our group had the pasta and rice options. All of them were bland, waterery and lukewarm. The rice was warm in places and cold in others so I stopped eating it halfway through, and lucky I did because my friend who finished it developed food poisoning a few hours later. If you can, plan your visit so that you eat in the town and only need to get coffee/snacks when in the grounds.

Exactly as others have said, one of the worst meals we’ve had - and at over €8 per dish, not worth it at all. This is the only ‘restaurant’ in or near the palace, which seems to be taken advantage of. They know people will need to eat here so there is no incentive to make it decent. This food made a kid’s school lunch seem like a fancy meal. Pasta was overcooked and rice was dry. They were topped with lukewarm curry sauce that tasted watery. Some of the servers were nice, but their service was extremely slow despite there being several of them in the kitchen. We ended up queuing half an hour for a disappointing lunch. Such a shame as the palace itself is fantastic.
