We had a delightful 3n stay here, the place is absolutely beautiful and uniquely decorated. There is free wine in the communal areas and the rooms are clean and beautiful with their high ceilings and beautiful features. The beds were unbelievably comfortable! Superb location, easy to walk to many attractions and close to buses for anything further away. The breakfast is also extremely generous and a great way to start the day. Thank you so much for a lovely stay!

From the outside this place is cute AF! Room was all right. I was on the second bottom floor with only had one window that like faced a wall. Though I had paid for a larger room, I guess that was a larger room. Usually when you pay for something more than a standard room you get a better location, but not this place. The biggest problem was you can hear literally anyone walking by, people talking in the morning. And then they start the cleaning so freaking early right in front of your door. Who does that! So if you like to sleep in until 9:30 good luck! Good location, right in the center. Really nice service people. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was not so great size wise but very clean. They had these nasty old brown rugs near by the bed which I was like I don't want to step on this. The should get rid of them.

Chalet Saudade was the perfect base for exploring Sintra. It is right next to the train station and a 10/15-minute walk to the historic town center. The building is beautiful and has a lovely garden out back. Our room, which was the small basement room, was actually a decent size and the bathroom in particular was nice. The bed was comfortable. The breakfast, which was included, was huge (croissants, bread, jam and butter, ham and cheese, hard boiled eggs, pastries, fruit, vegetables, juice, and coffee) and delicious. The staff was helpful and our stay was very affordable. I definitely recommend Chalet Saudade!

The room was not as it looked in the pictures. The staff were kind and offered us another room, but we already changed our plans and cut our stay in sintra short. I would not have booked this room if the pictures were more accurate. The rest of the place looks stunning, just meet sure you don't get room 7.

Just amazing! The Chalet was even better in person than I had hoped. So beautiful both inside and out with great views from our suite. Every employee we interacted with was genuine and helpful. Two nights wasn’t enough, we truly didn’t want to leave. And the included breakfast from their Saudade Cafe was probably the BEST breakfast I’ve ever had that was included with a hotel booking. It was just incredible, and they served us completely different things both mornings. Such a charming stay with attention to detail. Would absolutely come back and would recommend to anyone.

Beautiful rooms in a bed and breakfast, Victorian mansion. Clean and comfortable. Relaxing. Helpful and friendly service. Close to restaurants and train station. Wonderful breakfast is included.

You visit a fairytale land, what better place to stay than at a fairytale place!? We really enjoyed our stay. The lady who welcomed us did a great job, in perfect English, in making us feel at home. The room was lovely and the breakfast at Café Saudade was nice. A tiny little thing; beware if you book the room just below the front desk, there will be noise starting early in the morning, from footsteps and people talking (it is an old house, and it's supposed to do that).

Incredible accommodation in an incredible place. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated, as was the whole building. The staff were warm and friendly, and the breakfast was the cherry on top. I wish we had stayed longer.

Amazing place. So quiet and beautiful. Perfect details, the scent of cleaningnes on the sheets and towels, the garden, the free unlimited Port wine, the honesty bar, all add up to an unforgettable experience. Friendly and always smiling staff make you feel like home. Will come back for sure!

We stayed here for 4 nights and we do not regret it a bit! It was my second time in Portugal and wanted to try this place which indeed looks like a chalet and has superb views of the sunset. Rooms are spacious with a vintage look, bathroom was not big but clean and it felt as brand new (which for me are the most important when evaluating an accomodation) and the reception area is the whole entrance floor. To top this, the breakfast was amazing - note: they serve the breakfast outside the chalet at Cafe Saudade (2 min walking distance). Let me not forget they provided us with the room we requested - because I loved the birds design on the walls. A full yes :)

Truly excellent accomodations. We stayed in Room #11 (the Superior Suite) and it exceeded our (already high) expectations. The room is very spacious, tastefully decorated and includes a small kitchenette, a desk, plenty of seating. The best feature is the patio doors that open directly onto the garden. The garden has beautiful views and is quiet and peaceful, you can't hear the road or people noise. A wonderful respite after a busy day of sightseeing. The only minor problem is the internet is sometimes spotty in this room and would not be suitable for a zoom meeting, but was usually sufficient for web surfing and streaming (with a few glitches).

My wife and I had a wonderful 1-night stay at Chalet Saudade. Filipa and the other staff were very kind and professional, and offered helpful advice on where to eat and how to navigate Sintra. There’s also free port wine in the lobby during your stay! Room 13 was perfect and we can’t wait to come back in the future. Finally, the included breakfast at Cafe Saudade was wonderful.

The chalet is an old renovated charming house, that's multi-levels without an elevator. I lucked out and was only one floor down. The positives: the place is charming, the staff tries very hard and the room is clean. The breakfast is fantastic and the boss lady there is very friendly ( she took a liking to me and treated me like royalty!) The negatives: other than the stairs, the management made a decision I disagreed with and wouldn't have made if I owned a chalet. Basically, I had booked four nights to attend a wedding. Unfortunately, the day I was due to arrive, I got pickpocketed in Lisbon and lost my wallet, with my cash and cards, credit and debit. My friends from the wedding were able to help me with enough cash to pay for parking and gas. So, due to that unfortunate incident, I had to cut my trip short and leave one day early, the Sunday after the wedding. Saudade would not reimburse me for that night. I understand policies, and I understand being a business, but sometimes, we have to make difficult decisions to accommodate those who have extenuating circumstances. I appealed their denial and they would not make the adjustment. I expected them to do better, to be more understanding, and was disappointed. Otherwise, Sintra is gorgeous!!

We had a very lovely stay at Chalet Saudade. The receptionist were very friendly and helpful showing us the sites on a map, how to see everything efficiently and how to get from point A to B. They also have recommendations for where to eat near by and booked us a dinner reservation the first night. Our room was the garden room on the lower third level (lots of stairs down to the room). It was very large; more of an apartment size really. Just lovely.

Very relaxing and lovely place. I recommend staying a few days in Sintra and making this place your home. Awesome staff. Super friendly.

    * The location of Chalet Saudade is brilliant, regardless whether you arrive by train from Lisboa (3 minutes walk from the station), or have rented a car (parking nearby is available) - the place is within walking distance of downtown / historic Sintra. * Based on photos, we were already expecting a dapper little chalet. The house's overall look and feel surpassed our expectations though. Delightfully quirky and dreamy. * Staff were wonderful - even though we just stayed for one night, they shared a lot of the place's history, and made us feel very welcome. * We had booked an apartment with two bedrooms and it was very roomy and delightful. Of course, the place was spotless, decorated beautifully and very originally to reflect the chalet's history. * THAT BREAKFAST THOUGH! Certainly in our top 3 among the best hotel / b&b breakfasts we've ever had - and we are very particular about our breakfasts! Cafe Saudade was so great that I immediately regretted the fact I wouldn't be coming back tomorrow to try something different.

After staying 3 years ago, going to many different countries/ places to stay, Chalet Saudade is the definition of the best I have ever experienced! The atmosphere, location, and quality is just immaculate! My wife and I were traveling around Portugal and honestly saw Saudade by walking and stopped here due to the beauty. The host at the desk was the nicest, informative person on our entire country tour. The view from our room made us not want to leave. Pricing was the most reasonable here than anywhere else we stayed in Portugal! We will be back one day!!

Perfect location for walking through Sintra, fairly central, the staff very kind and helpful, this historic building and grounds are beautiful, yet modernized, rooms comfortable and very clean, lots of coffee/pastry shops nearby for a relaxing visit, easy to get around. Our room had a beautiful view to the garden and ravine outback. Snacks and beverages in the loung. Great thank you.

Beautiful stone apartment (2 bedrooms) with kitchen. Pity that there aren’t stairs and we had to carry our luggages down (to basement 3!) but receptionist is able to help if they are available. Highly recommend to get with breakfast as it will be at cafe saudade (rotating menu).

We absolutely LOVED Chalet Saudade! Great location (so close to train in a hilly town); beautiful, quality furnishings; incredible view; fantastic bathroom (lol); great front desk staff...I could go on and on and hope to get back some day! Sintra was the highlight of our trip to Portugal.

We absolutely loved our stay at Chalet Saudade! The location is is so convenient, less than a five-minute walk from the train station, but very quiet. It backs up on a wooded area called Valley of the Foxes, so the view from our window (Room 4) was excellent. The building is 140 years old and furnished with vintage furniture and fixtures and so very comfortable. Staff are knowlegeable and very helpful. From the Chalet, the town center and nearby attractions are within a fifteen-minute walk. You can also catch buses to the further attractions from the center. A large breakfast is served at the nearby Cafe Saudade that includes bread, croissants, coffee, juice, fruit, egg, sliced ham and cheese, and some sort of sweet cake or bread. Absolutely worth the price! We would definitely return.

The chalet is near the train station. Everyone is nice and helpful. The rooms are cute and comfortable. There's a large terrace on which you can enjoy the fantastic view during your stay. Also, they recommend some restaurants and list them in the order of the distance between the chalet and the restaurants! Super useful!!!

This was one of the best places I've ever stayed in. Our room was fantastic with private access to the garden, king bed, great kitchenette. The breakfast at the cafe was enough food to last us 6-7hours. We were given a very warm, calming welcome and given tons of resources/recommendations to plan our days in Sintra. The honesty bar that is set up in the sunroom for all guests is such a lovely touch. This chalet has character like you wouldn't believe. Highly recommend!!!

My fiancé and I stayed here in October for one night while exploring Sintra. Our room was lovely - it was charmingly decorated, the bed was comfortable, and the AC worked great. A hearty breakfast is provided by a nearby cafe. A paid parking lot is available, but I would not recommend taking a car to Sintra at all. The hosts were also lovely. They provided excellent information on what to see and how to see it. They also gave us a delicious restaurant recommendation. Please note that it is an old building, so there is no elevator. Getting our bags to our room was a minor, but very worth it, inconvenience. My only true complaint is that we did not stay longer!

Thank you for making my stay in Sintra perfect, the house is so beautiful, service is fantastic too, everything is spotless and clean and my room was amazing. I was luckily upgraded +1 to a Suite and when I saw it I couldn´t believe how spacious and beautiful it was, and I was won over big time with the tea selection. Everything worked perfect too, the shower was a real pleasure and heated air conditioning a great comfort. Even the included breakfast in the morning in the Cafe Saudade was superb. Highly recommend this guest house it will make your stay in Sintra just perfect. I knew it was going to be good but it exceeded my expectations. See for yourself :)

Absolutely loved this gem! We had a small room but it was perfectly fine. The ambience is just lovely, we enjoyed the complimentary port both days and relaxed in the garden. Perfect location and Sintra was magical.

Absolutely beautiful. Well located away from the centre of Sintra, as this gets very busy. 5 minute walk from the train station. 10/15 walk from centre of Sintra. The hosts at the chalet are so nice. Upon check-in you get a tour of the chalet. You also get given some good local knowledge on places to visit. The building looks like something out of a fairytale, it truly does look stunning. There's a beautiful courtyard in front and tourists are taking photos of the building day and night due to how stunning it is. A lovely little garden out the back. We used it to eat a takeaway with a local bottle of wine whilst the sun was setting. The room that we stayed in was great. Air conditioning was great after a day of walking around Sintra. Bed was super comfy. There's a honesty bar where you write down what you've taken from the well stocked fridge and pay upon checkout. If you're looking for a trip to Sintra, this is the place to stay. Will hopefully see you again soon.

You must stay here if you are visiting Sintra! The most stunning guesthouse right within walking distance from anything you need. The host was wonderful and the gardens were so peaceful! Not to mention the breakfast at the cafe was amazing!! All of the staff working there were so friendly.

We had an very pleasant stay at the Chalet Saudade. The staff was very friendly and we had a nice talk with the owner. The room was nice although we think that it can be more spacious by removing one wall. Eating at cafe Saudade is also a pleasure. Buying your tickets is advisable. The menu is sufficient and the staff is always open to any changes. The advantage as is guest at the chalet is that you can eat at the cafe on a Tuesday when it is closed for the general public. We stayed here 5 days and for the chalet we would come back again. The chalet is located at a walking distance of the train station. So trains to/from Lisbon are easy plus all buses for Sintra and the regions start from here.

The Chalet far exceeded our expectations! The room was perfect size and location looking over the garden. The sleeper had been set up to accommodate our daughter prior to arrival. The room was spotless and there were plenty of towels and toiletries, a small fully equipped kitchen with a burner, toaster, and fridge. Having a glass of Port in the evening in the winter garden was luxurious and a sweet touch. Our daily breakfasts at the Cafe Saudade was almost too much food with lots options. We took our natas for later! :) The staff was kind, helpful and always available. It was a joy to stay in this vintage guest house in a perfect location!

We had a wonderful stay! Our room was a bit too small, though it was very clean and since we were out all day we didn't need anything more. We spent some time in the beautiful and cozy garden room. The garden itself is so lovely and well taken care of but it was too hot to sit there. The location is perfect! Close to everything! The house, Chalet, is stunning. The service was so friendly too. The breakfast was beyond our expectations!

A friend and I stayed here for 1 night while visiting Sintra. We absolutely adored the house, it was beautiful, cozy, and spotlessly clean. The staff was very helpful, and kind. The breakfast is included in the hotel stay, which is provided just down the street at Cafe Saudade. The portions are very large, so bring your appetite! They had many options for vegans and vegetarians for lunch and dinner, but not as many for breakfast. I got a scone there that was probably the best I’ve eaten, and their coffee was delicious. 10/10, would stay here again!

My wife and I are in Lisbon for a week and decided to do an overnight in Sintra because we love that town. We stayed at the Chalet Saudade and it was fabulous! All the staff were excellent and we highly recommend Chalet Saudade. And... the breakfast at Cafe Saudade was amazing.

Maybe the first time I review something not having actually stayed there but: As a non-guest the amount of assistance and helpfulness I received here deserve recognition. I was a guest at a wedding and had a day to fill before leaving Portugal. This beautiful hotel caught my eye and I knocked the door because I wanted somewhere to leave my suitcase while exploring the town. The lady of the house gracefully offered to look after my things and gave me a quick tour of her beautiful hotel. I didn’t know it at the time but a few of the guest of the wedding had stayed here as well as the bride the day before the wedding. Please don’t all go here to leave your luggage as I did but just book a room as this place will really spark some joy.
