I live and have been eating all around china for the past +20 years and can confidently tell you that this place is not close to authentic. I don’t think they tweaked the menu items to appeal to the local, western palette but are just bad cooks or cutting corners/costs. 1) the “baozi” (水煎包)is supposed to have a nice, crispy bottom. They obviously did not want to spend the time to patiently allow the nice crisp to form on the bottom. The bun itself lacked the proper bounce in texture as a result of different type of flour (i ll give them a pass on that as it may be difficult to buy in eugene). The meat also lacks that bit of juice that usually collects in the inside. 2)pickled beef noodles: the soup doesnt taste like a broth thats been simmering for hours. It just tastes like some powders were thrown in the soup with some picked cabbage (酸菜). But the most offensive part of this dish was the beef. Never in my life have a had such dry and tough beef before! Proper beef noodle soup is supposed to use tender and juicy cuts of beef, not cheap lean cuts of beef. If you’re going to us cheap, lean cuts of beef at least put in the time and effort to cook it until its somewhat tender. 3) “special secret made pepper chicken rice”: this dish was lazy in that they basically took the soup from the pickled beef noodle and reused it as the base in this dish and then three in some sichuan peppercorn. Nothing special about that. I’ve never seen anything like this before in the thousands of meals ive had out in china and asia. I do not say that in a good way. The only thing going for any of the food items at this restaurant was the chicken meat in this dish was tender. Frankly, i dont know how this place has excellent reviews from chinese reviewers. I suspect that some may be friends of the restaurant or phantom 1-2 review accounts opened for the purpose of bumping this restaurant up. The waitress was very nice and friendly but i cant give them anything higher than a one star as the food is horrible!

Wonderful chinese food at this restaurant! There are many options for vegetarians and truly they have some of the best fried rice out there. Scallion pancakes are just so tasty too! Nice little shop with plenty of space too. Staff: 5/5 (personal attention to each customer) Products: 5/5 (great products with good options made fresh and fast) Health: 5/5 (they have healthy options) Facility: 5/5 (clean and well organized) Location: 5/5 (easy to get to with parking out front and on the side of the bank )

Food was bland. The curry had no flavor. Pork bao was pretty pink inside and also bland. The onion cake was to greasy to eat. All you could taste was oil. Bbq pork was super fatty. This was our first time eating here and will definitely will be our last.

You know that amazing feeling when you order a bunch of things at a restaurant and you can’t even decide what you liked the most since it’s all so amazing? That is exactly how I’m feeling right now. My husband eats meat but my cousin and I are vegetarian and we all were so happy after our meal here. Everything here was made fresh for each order and you could definitely tell. Both the vegetarian baos and vegetarian dumplings were the best that I’ve ever had. The inside was so flavorful and the vegetables were so fresh. My husband also loved the meat dumplings that he got. One of my favorite restaurants in Eugene by FAR!

I had a really pleasant dinner here at Bao Bao House. We ended up ordering the BBQ pork, shrimp Bao and mapo tofu. Everything was good, if perhaps a bit underwhelming to my palate. I don't eat very much Chinese cuisine so I can't speak to the authenticity but it was all pretty evenly tasty. Optional vinegar, soy sauce and chili paste were provided on the table which helped spice up the dishes. Most importantly to me, the service was very good here. We were seated quickly, and the dishes came out faster than I expected and still hot. I would agree with what others have said that the Bao zi do take a bit longer to cook so keep that in mind. I didn't feel like it took that long however. The atmosphere is also very nice, it's a smaller restaurant with music that's not too loud. Because of how open the floor is it can be a bit loud, but I wasn't bothered by it. Overall, pretty good in my opinion but I also am far from an authority on Chinese food.

Most authentic soup dumplings outside of Hong Kong. Noodles and soup were excellent and very filling. Highly recommend!

We went on Chinese New Year after a concert. It was the perfect place for some nice hot soup and some bao to celebrate the new lunar year of the rabbit. The soups were exceptionally hot as expected from Chinese restaurants. The Shanghai steamed bao zi is very good and our noodle soup was excellent and generous in its portion.

Stopped here for a quick snack on a Sunday afternoon and it was a great choice! We split the pork bao and shrimp bao (we were too hungry to take a pic before we started eating, so just imagine there are 12 bao lol). With some soy, vinegar, and chili oil, they were so delicious, with a great springy texture. A very filling mid-day snack!

The vegetarian bao zi are so good! Love the vibe and hand written menus - so charming. Good quality and the size and technique for the baos are good. Only minor suggestion is to have more spicy chili sauce.

Pretty sure they give 0 effort into their broth and ingredients for what they charge. Broth was flavorless, and toppings were very lackluster. Staff seemed caring, but also condescending at the same time. For real tho save yourself the time and money and make it at home. Broth is basically just hot water with the worst cut of meat boiled and some pickled cabbage n' packaged noodles. Honestly some of the worst $ we've spent lately. If that doesn't convince you. The houseless person outside wouldn't even accept our full container of extra. 1 star for atmosphere. Really like the pictures inside.

Most Unique Restaurant in the ❤️ of downtown Eugene and to my surprise I found they served Taiwanese food, in addition to the Chinese food. I ordered dumplings filled with veggies. Absolutely delicious 😋!!! Baozi Dumplings with beef bowl, Curry Chicken Bao, Taiwan Style Pork Rice, was ordered by others, and they have an unusual variety of foods. Everyone had a different order, but EACH of us LOVED what we had. YUM!!! Added to that, the service was OUTSTANDING!!!

I was really excited to try this place! We called in a pick up order. The building is in a hard to find location and it was hard to find parking even on a mid weekday evening. When we got home, the presentation was basic. The curried beef bao zi we ordered looked well prepared but had little to no flavor. The same goes for the 2 entrees we ordered, curried mix veggies and rice + 1 more dish. We both had to add our own veggies from home plus seasonings to even make them taste better than similar frozen meals we would have gotten from a grocery store for half the price. The two small to go containers of house sauces were both underwhelming. One was a watered down soy sauce and the other, a hard to chew chili "paste." We sadly will not be going back due to boring presentation, location and mostly lack of flavor/quality in ratio to cost per dish.

My 10 year old daughter took me today to have lunch here and we ordered the beef noodles and the pork dumplings. The atmosphere was quaint, sweet and quiet with a full house and the staff was exceptionally good making my daughter and I feel very welcome. My daughter even wanted to complement the chef the waitress went behind a special curtain and told them how much we liked the meal, and we heard a thunderous roar from the kitchen. Highly recommended for kids and adults. The food is approachable, delicious and healthy. Incredible!

I’ve been dreaming of their vegetarian bao buns. First time having bao and won’t be the last! Perfect portion for me and filled with more than just vegetables (tofu and noodles too). They have hand drawn illustrations on the menu and a casual atmosphere. I can’t wait to go back!

The food was delicious. I forgot to take a before pic, but the after pic shows the food was delicious. We ordered the shrimp fried rice and barbecue pork.

The service here is what really took me by surprise. We ordered to go and ended up eating it outside their restaurant and were promptly given bowls, water, and serving utensils. The food took a little while to come so we didn't want to wait any longer. This place has really good Yelp reviews for good measure. They are not greasy. They are not overly salty. It leaves you feeling light and satisfied. I would recommend this place. I was expecting Hawaiian style manapua's but they are different. It's more crunch the bao that is. It' also will squirt a lot of water on your shirt or jeans when you bite into it so be careful when you do.

Food is delicious, our family of four devoured the boa buns, dumplings and fried rice. They offer vinegar, soy sauce and garlic chili sauce on all the tables and the flavors were amazing. We arrived at 730pm on a Friday so they were busy but there were tables available and we were seated quickly. We waited a long time for service, like 10+ minutes. Our kids were losing their minds. They do have table service and when we ordered, it was my perception that the server seemed super annoyed that I was asking questions and wanted to adapt one of the dishes for our eight year old's picky palette. The menu is many pages and does not include pictures so I wanted to make sure the kids would be satisfied with the food. Once we ordered, the food came relatively quickly and it was VERY good. Everyone was happy and content. We would 100% return for the food.

Great place for lunch. Very friendly staff. The baos, wonton soup, and steamed dumplings are phenomenal. I can tell when the owners puts their heart into producing delicious food. The dough work on the bao and dumplings, easily able to tell this place is making it by hand. The filling and meat is fresh and tasty. We will be back again. 讚!

First time at Bao Bao. just because we saw it as we were heading to Starbucks and Best Buy. There was a Grand Opening sign, so let’s try it. The service was great! It got busy at lunch time on a Sunday afternoon. The food was delicious! I don’t say that lightly as we are visiting Eugene Oregon from San Francisco California. We have plenty of restaurants like this and they definitely exceeded our expectations. The fact that they make their own buns, dumplings & noodles fresh is delightful!! It’s like having or making your own fresh pasta. It is a big difference from packaged pasta. All the best to BAO BAO! May stop by for dinner before we leave Oregon.

From out town and I'm always after these noodles only some places serve. Not only did they have my favorite dish but we also got other meals for my family. We made the order to go. They were very pleasant and understanding (bathroom was needed even though we were ordering take out). Food was amazing and all round great service.

Lovely place with lovely people. Food was phenomenal and the prices are fantastic as well. The staff were super friendly and gave the place a very comfortable atmosphere. We felt very welcomed! My wife and I will 100% eat here again the next time we are in Eugene! Please do yourself the favor and stop by this place!

Great little place to stop. The bao was definitely the best. Lots of vegetarian options. The second time we went In we ordered 5 dishes, ate, and were back to the truck in 30 minutes. The leftover bao was no less delicious the next day.

Stopped by here while traveling through Oregon. The restaurant is very small and cute inside. My boyfriend ordered the Double Shrimp chicken Noodle soup and said it was excellent. Very tasty shrimp and the best fish balls he has ever had. The curry beef dumplings were good, but too doughy for me. I got the Special Beef Noodle soup. I was unable to eat it because the chunks of meat were all different shapes and textures and I was expecting beef strips similar to what they put in Pho. I sent my soup back and they were less than happy about it. According to my boyfriend I’m just too picky and the beef looked good so they still get 4 stars :)

One of my new favorite spots. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Bao is amazing, soft, juicy and slightly crunchy bottom. I can't get enough.

It’s not worth going out of your way to eat here. Please find a better place. The vegetarian wontons were inedible. I couldn’t force myself to eat it. There was no flavor. It was like eating paper. Of course they didn’t want to refund me, so I just left all of them on the table and paid for it. The shrimp fried rice was nothing special. Threw half of that away when I got home. The service was terrible as well.

I have never tasted anything as good as the food here. I have absolutely no complaint about anything at all. The servers were very friendly and attentive. I got the pork steamed dumplings and beef curry bao. The beef curry is out of this world and perfectly balanced in flavor and of course the pork dumplings were to die for. My husband and I left so full and satisfied. I cannot wait to come back. I would like to see this restaurant blow up and move into a bigger space someday! Highly recommend and I will be back for lunch regularly!

The tofu was the perfect texture, and everything tasted really fresh and authentic. The dumplings were so juicy!! Nice friendly staff too. Only thing I didn't like was that the cup for the hot drink was plastic. Wish it had been glass or ceramic, would have felt nicer to drink from.

The Bao Bao house is located in downtown Eugene. Everything has a cozy homemade vibe to it from the handwritten menus to the table placards. The food is great and everything is fresh. Of everything I tried the Baos were the best.
