My husband and I visited the house which is under construction. The website posted their hours. I am handicapped and being unfamiliar with the area, we parked at the bottom of the hill and climbed several sets of stairs to the top. Upon reaching the door, there was a hand made sign stating they were closed due to illness. We walked around outside looking at the construction and the trees then made our way down the several flights of stairs. Wish they had posted a sign down below so we didn't have to climb the stairs. In response to the answer from my review... It was our FIRST time there, we had no idea WHERE the parking was for the house. We definitely WILL park in your lot the next time we arrive. I also understand that employees get sick, my comment was about sign placement for those wanting to visit.

If you’re going to pay for an event make sure you know what restrictions they will have. We went for an event and we’re expecting a tea and food and there was none. We also were not allowed to explore the house at all which was a huge part of why we went in the first place. Lovely house, but not worth the money for the special events. Just do the cheap tour because at least you actually get to see the house. Huge disappointment. ETA- we paid $60 for two people for the event versus like $5 for an actual tour, don’t waste your money. Second Edit - what the responder said is not true at all. I have attended teas where you were completely free to explore the upper floors of the house and I know from others that they have as well.

Best part of the tour was Chloe, very enthusiastic, knowledgeable, Friendly and happy. Very nice history of the SMH . Lived here since 96 and finally made it to it now that it is open. 5Star x 100.

We had a private tea party. Staff was amazing, easy to work with and food and tea was top notch. Very fun day for daughter and friends.

Good price for a 15 minute tour. The lady at the desk was nice and took us on a tour. The history is nice and on a sunny day it's a great place to go.

Very worth your $5! It was interesting to learn about the families who lived there through the self guided tour book. The house is really lovely, however, it is a little tacked up with posters on the walls in some rooms advertising current performances, that aren't at the house. I don't know what that's all about, but it ruins the ambiance, imo. There are a lot of interesting pieces throughout the house though, furnishings and decor. There is, unfortunately, a small bug infestation upstairs in a bedroom. Hopefully they get that taken care of. I still give 5 stars though, because I think they are working with a small budget. Please go visit so they have more funds to work with. And they really need to update Google and their website with where to park if you aren't handicapped. There is handicap parking and a ramp in back. And there is an album of pictures you can look at of the upstairs. But you will only be able to access the first floor.

Interesting, historic house. Went to tea event. Nice folks, tiny portions of food. Went out to dinner afterwards, cos we were still so hungry! Maybe price the tea lower or give more food?

Just a beautiful house in a style from the 1800's. The site over looks part of downtown Eugene. Interior is furnished with a large selection of period pieces. We'll worth a visit.

Porchfest took place all over town early July 2021 and this historical landmark was the perfect setting for a folk duo called Small Time. There are tours thru this amazing house which was home to one of Eugene's pioneer families. Its located near the Amtrak station, at the base if Skinner Butte which is a nice easy hike on one side, more challenging with many steps on the other side. You can also just drive up to the house, then drive up to the Skinner Butte Lookout.

Frankly, I didn't feel that the interior was as well managed as the exterior of the building. Of course, the items I used in the past were interesting, and the explanation of the story was good, but it smelled a little uncomfortable, and there were unorganized fixtures piled up everywhere, so it was a cluttered atmosphere. But I think it's an educationally beneficial place. I think it's worth visiting with your children at least once.

Very knowledgeable tour guide, but you have the option of self guided experience. Make sure to check out the attic!

The Shelton McMurphey Johnson House is such a cool experience. There's lots of history and such a cool story to tell. The staff is so kind and makes the experience that much better. I'd definitely recommend it if you're in the area.

I did not get a chance to go in when I came and visited. I did get to look around outside of the house it looks so beautiful and wish that I could have seen the beautiful home what it would look like back then. This was when Covid was going on as well.

Gorgeous Historic Property in a Lovely Park. Call in advance, we drove quite the distance to see this place and it was closed at 2PM on a Saturday for a private party. Very disappointed but the house itself and grounds are beautiful.

Fun little Victorian house on a hill close to skinner butte. Everytime we have driven by it we have said we need to go there and we finally did. Lots of old wedding dresses and a ton of interesting facts about the area and the families that owned the house over the years

House itself and its history was interesting. Definitely worth a visit. Parking maybe confusing based on the website instructions. Need to park at the bottom of the stairs leading to the house in the parking lot across the street. Lots of stairs to climb.

Super fun, Loved the History, it was very informative. There were about 6 Wild turkeys outside enjoying the lovely grounds . Has a spectacular view facing South encompassing the landscape view of Eugene Downtown. 🤔A bit of a sad note : Inside Needs pest control... Live Critters, stink bugs, flies and spiders in the windows, and the lace curtains were dirty, rods hanging off hinges with its curtains, in Grandmas bedroom of all places!😁. Over all, a great visit. This home had to be spectacular in its hay day, and WOW even has modern toiletry facilitation. Terrific.

If you love history, you need to visit this house 🏠. We had wanted to for quite some time and glad we did. The people of this house are linked to the original settler of our city, Eugene Skinner. If you're looking for something to do I recommend checking it out.

If you love history then you will love this place. Just a few minutes off of I-5 so glad we decided to stop. Also the staff is wonderful, very knowledgeable of the area and you can tell they love representing the house.

This museum is a piece of Americana in Eugene. It's historic, iconic, and hard to miss. If you haven't had a chance to tour it's walls, you are SERIOUSLY missing out. It's gorgeous, even during renovations. 10/10 would recommend 100% of the time.

Beautiful on the inside, the outside was being worked on. Park across the street and pay for the public parking.

Beautiful home with an eerie feeling of being fallowed by someone who isn’t there yet the home makes you feel welcomed! At Christmas time is the best time to go as it is decorated with all the Christmas trimmings beautiful house beautiful sweet house.Totally worth going to and looking at the house around Christmas you really get the Christmas vibe. So if you go to this house they have caution the people that visit somebody’s watching you ,they may not be there physically but they’re watching you.

Parking was an issue. After I parked where everyone else parked, I was told I could not park there. So I drove around on 3rd st and the lot was full. So I parked down the hill and walked up. She then told me I can't park there either. She did allow me to stay there but she would likely get nasty note or phone call. So after a not so good start, the tea was lovely.
