No rock climbers in our group, but our group really enjoyed hiking in the rim and river trails in this beautiful park. The rim trail offers nice views for hikers and non-hikers alike. Wide, flat trails, offer easy access to the river and canyon trails below. We had limited time there, so we didn't climb the steep, exposed trails to the top of the mountains. Instead we hiked along the river snapping photos of the impressive cliff faces and scads of climbers. The park was crowded on a cool, sometimes stormy, Spring day, but the trails were never crowded. It's a beautiful place, so I can see why! We'll return to hike over the mountains soon. It will surely be worth the effort.

This is such a stunning state park! Pay the $5 for day parking at the machine and then you’re good to go! Lots of hikes and trails available for all levels and an excellent spot for climbing too. Well worth the visit if you are in the area. Dry and rocky climate.

One of the prettiest hikes I have ever done and neatest little river. This is an epic spot easy to see and get to from Mt. Hood highway and from Bend, which is just one of the most beautiful pockets of the country overall. My only regret was coming over here when I was tired, but its one of the most memorable spots I have ever seen.

This is a hidden gem in Oregon, which could qualify for a national park in my opinion. Not far away from Bend, it's very convenient with spectacular scenic view. The hiking(Misery Ridge & River Trail) is a little tough but manageable and fun. You will be rewarded once you are on the top. I highly recommend the hiking, this trail going up and around the peaks. The trail along the river is much easier, while the other part goes to the rocks is kind of tough and challenge, so be prepared. This place is relatively hot and dry in the summer, and you need to bring lots of water, hiking shoes are highly recommended. The monkey face rock is amazing, a great place for rock-climbing. You can also see snow covered mountains far away from the top, very gorgeous view and really worth it. There are lots of interesting places, rocks, rivers etc. to explore. The hike could take hours or a whole day.

Beautiful park absolutely worth a visit. I highly recommend the Misery Ridge & River Trail. The trail is 3.5 miles and rigorous but definitely doable for anyone. This loop gives you a fantastic overview of the full park with some outstanding vistas. The park costs just $5 for a day parking pass, a great deal.

This is an absolute must see location in Oregon! Even if you are only able to stop by for a quick minute it will be well worth it! The view from the parking lot is gorgeous! And then if you have extra time, there are many trails that go right next to the rock formations with different difficulty ranges! It is $5 for a day use parking which is easy to get when you get to the park!

This is an impressive park. We hiked Misery Ridge Trail (in reverse). Instead of going to the right and going straight up, we went to the left and followed the river then went up to the ridge and down the steep part. It was in the 90's when we were there with hardly any shade and the signs posted say to bring water and drink 16-ounces per hour! The trail was difficult in some areas, especially going down Misery Ridge Trail. It is steep and zigzags and you can easily lose your footing and slip. My toes were actually sore and even a little bruised the next day because it was so steep. Using hiking poles would have been a good idea (if I had any). We stopped a lot to take pictures, so it actually took us around 3 hours to do the hike. If we do it again, I would like to go in the spring and start early in the day when it is cool. The views from up top though are amazing! So bring lots of water, where good shoes and bring those hiking poles. There are some flush toilets at the park which is always a plus for me.

One of the most gorgeous hikes I’ve done. The nature it’s just simply beautiful and different from your typical forest hike. This park is very famous for rock climbing fans. Parking is $5dll and it has restrooms.

Wow! Out of nowhere this gorgeous spot rises up with endless beauty, plenty of opportunity for activity, wildlife, and breathtaking sunsets and sunrises!! We took the 7+ mile hike, counter clockwise around the park. When starting it was a bit overcast and chilly. Going counter clockwise gets all the elevation out of the way early, so after the first 2.5 miles we were warmed up, the sun came out and the rest was nearly entirely downhill. There’s a bit in the middle of this hike where you’re switch backing around the back of the hills that’s a bit boring, but it’s still beautiful. We camped at the bivouac area nearby, there was plenty of first come first serve spots. A bit of a walk with your gear to the tenting areas, but cooking happens closer to the parking area so no need to drag that to your tent site. Several tent sites right on the edge of the cliff overlooking the park. Arrive early because the lot got filled by dusk.

An excellent place to hike. There is a beautiful loop called Misery Ridge Trail that is a 4-mile loop, and has an 1800' elevation gain. Go up a rocky canyon, observe rock climbers and descend the other side. A lovely creek runs along the edge of this hike with ducks and geese. Good for any age and strength.

Amazing spot for hike and enjoy the nature. Its popular spot so be early to enjoy the peace. You need $5 parking ticket. There are miles of hiking trails mostly easy to moderate. If you wanna go all the way up it would be little bit hard but still not too bad

Very long hike but so worth it. Go counterclockwise on the trail. It’s gonna be rough and steep but it’s short! As soon as you hit the peak it’s smooth hiking all the way back around. If you go clockwise you’ll be going uphill longer (not as steep but wayyyyy longer) and the hike back down would be super steep and kinda dangerous.

Fantastic stop here on a cool day in September. Note that the bridge is under construction, so we were not able to cross to trails on the other side. No matter, though. Such beautiful scenery everywhere, and we enjoyed the trails we hiked on. Absolutely worth the drive here and the time spent. We'll be back.

What a gorgeous place! We went on the last day of May and it couldn’t have been more perfect! We did the 3.5 mile Miser Ridge and River Trail. We went counter-clockwise (as advised) and the beginning was tough! 1000 feet elevation gain! The middle (coming down the mountain) was slippery so wear good shoes. Worth it for the views, though… I would do it again in a heartbeat. Perfect mix of rock, river, and snow-capped mountains in the distance.

Stunning formations and views. Misery Ridge hike was awesome! Went counter-clockwise and started early to have the shady side when the sun was higher.

Awesome hike! My wife and I did a party that ended up being about 3 miles, and the scenery was gorgeous. Went about mid day, and although there were plenty of cars in the parking lot and side road, because the area is so large we hardly ran into anybody. You could spend hours exploring all the twists and turns. You’ll also probably see some rock climbers (experienced and learning)!

Was on the way up north to Mt. Hood, and stopped here. Wow! I must say it’s gorgeous! It started off cool in the morning, then gradually got to a warmer temperature. You saw many rock climbers doing the most vigorous of climbs throughout the state park and it really takes your breath away besides the geological rock formations. I loved coming here!

Beautiful, lesser known part of Oregon. It was fun to see more of the desert side of Oregon and loved the drive in through the canyon. I had a 15 mile race here that kicked my butt, and was grateful for the gorgeous views that motivated me to keep going. I wish the trails were marked a little better, I got lost at one section and had to loop back. Overall a beautiful park and worth the trip.

This state park you could easily spend a full day hiking the trails around the rock formations. Even if you only have a few hours, the park with worth making a stop at as the formation are amazing to see. The hike to get down to the river is a bit steep but the trail is well maintained for those who have limited mobility. It is worth noting if planning to stop at the park, arriving earlier than later is recommend as parking fills up fast from all the hiker and climbers. Additionally, the lot is spread out so if in a large group you will be separated when parking. If you have young kids the trails over the river offer some fun places to run as well as the small cave outcroppings on the other side a great place for them to explore.

Beautiful!! Just make sure to remember to bring water and sunscreen! Especially if you're coming from a typically overcast and rainy area like me - I kind of forgot how intense and exhausting a super clear sunny day can be.

$5 for parking. Beautiful park with cool rocks. Do not recommend Rim Rock Trail because it doesn’t have many views.

Visiting from California went for a great unexpected crazy hike but Loved it. If you're looking for a good hike or any type of rock climbing, this is definitely the place. You don't have to climb the mountain. But if you want to take the hike up to the top, it's definitely worth it.

Absolutely breathtaking views! We took the lower trail due to medical reasons and my 5 year old son being with us, and it was doable even in the heat of a summer afternoon! Great exercise, fun adventure, and amazing views!

Moderate hike for young and fit people, but for seniors and not-so-fit people, this is a difficult hike. When you see the sign that says "most difficult trail" they meant it. The views are stunning and breathtaking. Though short in distance, they are certainly straight up as vertical as can be on narrow, and loose gravels paths. I'm afraid of heights. It was a torture for me. I made it but it wasn't that easy. Bring walking sticks!

Always spectacular to hike, the colors are amazing. Have to visit in both the spring and fall to see the differences. A truly special place. Words don't do it justice, you just have to go there.

Smith Rock Park is one of my favorite places for hiking and just for enjoyable time outdoors! Easy road to get there, easy to parking and pay for parking. 2 restrooms, and a couple of tables at the picnic area. Interesting hiking. And very beautiful place!

Amazing spot for hiking, camping, and rock climbing. Probably one of the more gorgeous spots in the area. Take lots of water because it gets HOT out on those rocks! Thankfully there's lots of water fill up spots. Cool to see so many people from in and out of state appreciating the landscape.

Awesome views. Great hikes. Come prepared with lots of fluids to keep yourself hydrated. Hats and sunglasses can be very helpful. Parking Tickets can be purchased at the location.

This place is epic! They have plenty of trails for hikers, and lots of rock climbing! Super fun and exciting. The trails are just challenging enough to make it fun and interesting, but not too challenging. The views are spectacular if you hike up to the top! Make sure you wear good hiking boots though, as when the rocks are dry, they can be pretty slippery in the steep areas. Can be pretty busy most of the time unfortunately, and you do have to pay for parking, but it’s totally worth it. I’d recommend coming on a random weekday. You’ll still see a lot of people, but it will be far less than the weekends. Sunrise and sunset here is incredible, but sunset is always my favorite. Come give Smith Rock a visit if you are interested in exploring these beautiful rocky views!

The views here are pretty unbeatable! We mostly stuck to River Trail as we had our 9 year old with us and based on reviews, knew Misery Ridge Trail was not for us this time! We did hike up on of the side where people went to rock climb for a killer high up view though! This place gets PACKED so definitely go early, no later than 10am to even be able to find parking. Trails were clean, well kept, and well marked. My son and I painted a few rocks beforehand and hid them all along our hike for others to find also!

  • 5/5 Melissa L. 7 months ago on Google
Beautiful! They were working on the bridge while I was there so I only walked one side of the river but I could see rock climbers were on the other side enjoying themselves. I saw river otters in the water as well. The walk down to the bottom to be near the water is a bit steep so may not be for everyone having to walk it back up. If I lived near here I'd be back a lot.

It’s a great place to visit in Oregon. Close from Bend. Hiking trails can be very long. I only tried 2 mile trail though I would like to try something longer. The wall which many people climb, the river, the view, I love it. There are quite a few picnic tables, bathrooms, water faucets, nice place, I have visited 3 times and it does not get old.

  • 5/5 Jenna F. 8 months ago on Google
We were recommended to visit here. I'm so glad we did. The two easiest trails were beyond beautiful. My four year old enjoyed them as well. Not too many people earlier in the morning, which made it great to stop and explain nature to our son. We were able to walk over a well-maintained wooden bridge with ease. We would definitely come back for another visit with better shoes.

I went to Smith Rock for the first time recently to photograph this couples bridals & was blown away by the beauty! Absolutely breathtaking! We only went on the trail right off the parking lot, but it was beautiful, clean, & easy to navigate. I can’t wait to explore it more someday!

This place is splendid. The park is well frequented with many rock climbers. There are trails all over the park with different levels of difficulty. There are easy trails for walking along the Crooked river and strenuous trails for climbing to the top of the mountain

Just beautiful but in summer it's too hot. Bring lots of water. Entrance there is one souvenir shop. No wheelchair trails. you can get great views of Smith Rock and the park in general from the parking lot area.

What a wonderful place to go for adventure. This was my first time visiting this wonder of Oregon. Please take plenty of water and wear the right shoes. With the combination of altitude and heat. It is easy to become dehydrated and experience heat stroke. It was amazing to see rock climbers at various stages. Families enjoying the beautiful scenery. I was able to see an eagle and various wild life. If you want a place to go to, worth the drive. Plenty of picnic tables and beauty. Oregon is amazing!!

An amazing spot for hike - feels like a totally different planet. Pack water and take good hiking shoes (there are some steep bits). Morning is better for pics than the afternoon, but at sunset it’s pretty as well.

  • 5/5 Sarah N. 1 year ago on Google
This place was more than just beautiful. We did two hikes, it was hard (also because it was really hot) but it was worth it. The first hike, was so empty and we barely saw any people, we felt we were alone at the park. I highly recommend to do both hikes. Bring enough water! We did first the Summit trail and then the Loop and the River trail, we avoided the Misery trail.

Smith Rock State Park is one of the most beautiful state parks in the country. The park very much reminded us of Garden of the Gods in Colorado. We are not climbers so we stuck with some of the hiking trails. During peak season, we would recommend visiting the park earlier or later in day as parking does fill up fast. The hiking trails are very nice, but to get down to the Crooked River you must be able to walk down a steep hill that can make the vast majority of the park to be inaccessible or at least a quick stop. It is also fun to spot the birds that live in the park and the climbers scaling the volcanic cliffs.

  • 4/5 M 2 years ago on Google
Great hike! Definitely not easy. Be prepared when you go there to be exposed to the elements for about 40% of the hike (sun, wind, rain) all three happened at the same time sometimes. Only issue is people like to bring their dogs and take them off leash. Which is literally NOT allowed! And this huge dog came running to try to hump my dog and also ran away from its owner. The parks people were there but didn’t do much. If you have dogs just keep them on a leash. It’s against the rules not to and you will just be putting yourself and others in danger!

  • 5/5 Carlo D. 2 years ago on Google
This place did not disappoint! Great views, weather was pleasant. It's also fun to watch all the rock climbers doing their thing. The rocks are so colorful here, a very fun and dynamic visual. The birds and waterfowl were also really neat to watch. Definitely recommend going here! The hiking can be steep though, so bring the correct shoes!
