Very cute aquarium!! A couple of things were closed for construction or because of the pandemic, but still lots to see and a fun time! A little difficult in the outside parts if you use a mobility device, but still lots of things to see indoors. Very large gift shop too! Also the fossil exhibit that is currently there is so fun and informative.

Educational, the fossil area was very interesting. The tanks were full, clean and in good condition, nice display of sea stars, jellyfish, sand dollars, etc. you get a good chance to get up close to everything in the tanks. But it was irritating to pay $25 per adult (full price) when several displays were closed. No problem with closed displays, but adjust the entrance fee then.

It's under construction but still amazing. Dress warmly as half of it is outside. And you want to go outside to see the amazing under water tunnel exhibits with sharks! Buy a membership and then plan to visit more than 2 times to get your monies worth... plus they have a reciprocal membership agreement with many museums in Portland and Salem.

I will not lie, even with all the construction going on, we DID have so much fun. We came all the way from Sacramento, CA family of 30 people and we had adults had fun🥰 kids had fun, didn't want to leave. Thank you for all your work at this place, we enjoyed everything 💜 P.S BATHROOMS 🚻 ARE CLEAN 😊

Amazing aquarium for the whole family! Lots of parking and ticket staff process you into Aquarium quickly. Multiple great indoor and outdoor exhibits, filled with many staff and volunteers. Indoor highlights are the touch and feel tanks and definitely the walk through tunnels, especially the shark area! Outdoor highlights are the sea lion, sea otter, and the aviary. All are great! There is also an expansive playground area for a wide age range of kids in the outdoor portion. Multiple delicious food options suitable for the whole family. Plus a large gift shop. Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of this world-class Aquarium! Must visit!

The aquarium is pretty, but they charge you the full entry fee even though half of it isn't open right now. There are no special exhibits open, a large part is under construction, and the birds are put away to keep them safe from contracting bird flu. While I understand that the aquarium needs to do these things for maintenance and safety, I wish they would've told us that before we spent $25 to only see a couple of things.

Our family had a great time at the aquarium! There are a few animal exhibits not open. We watched the sealions get fed and we all loved the tunnel of fish and sharks! There is a hands-on tide pool area where you get to touch sea creatures and learn more about them. It was over $100 for 6 of us. It was a fun time!

Went on a Wednesday, make sure to order online and get tickets, but it’s super easy! Staff was friendly and helpful with questions and suggestions. The exhibits that are open were fantastic and a new experience in every area! Really enjoyable and beautiful sights! Gift shop was opened and had lots of cool stuff! Will be going back soon!

My companion and I were welcome to visit this last weekend. I recommend getting here earlier in the day. The afternoon became so busy it became difficult to navigate through everyone. The exhibits look well maintained and I especially enjoyed the sharks! Would definitely come again in the future when they open the atrium again. I felt they shouldn't be charging full price if all of it wasn't available to see.

We had a good time. Very interesting, informative, with a lot of visual activity. Even has a playground for the little ones. Walk inside and outside and underside of the aquarium. Very good activity for adults and children. A surprisingly interesting gift-shop!

Incredible. We had a downright excellent day of exploring. Each exhibit is thoughtfully and beautifully presented. My favorite by far was the Coastal Life room - the displays in here are GORGEOUS. I absolutely loved the nudibranches.

Very fun experience with lots of opportunities to learn about marine life and ecology. The friendly volunteer staff are very knowledgeable and willing to provide educational answers to most questions. The wide variety of critters to see will also keep kids entertained (Be sure to take them to the touch pool!). The food is good. The gift shop has a great selection too.

I'm giving them 5 stars for how they are still allowing people in and to run with all the restrictions in place. This was my first time here, and I did have a really good time. The staff were all very friendly and informative. There, sadly, was only like 5 exhibits to look at and again, there are a lot of restrictions going on and only being in phase 1 we couldn't really go inside the buildings or touch anything for the most part. Our timing wasn't all that great either, everything had just been fed or was during feeding so we didn't actually get to see a whole lot of the actual animals. Regardless of everything, the place did very well and gave us a tour and we still had a really great time.

The Oregon Coast Aquarium was an excellent day trip. Lots and lots to see. Masks are still required to be worn anywhere on the premises. Sea otters were great and the sea lions were having a great time showing off for the spectators. If you haven't been to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, you're truly missing out in a fun time. What are you waiting for.

Wonderful place to visit for a family, mo matter of the ages. I have been here several times and all the times they have something new among the exhibit to surprise returning visitor, me :-) This time they had a collection of several new to me fossils of animals who's extinction we as human were not able to prevent. Worth visiting, but not too often ;-) Look for some additional pictures posted by me today (June 4th, 2022); those I could stare at for hours making other visitors uncomfortable (lol) jk.

This place has a zillion reviews, so I'm not sure what value I am going to add at this point. Other than to say, this is a wonderful Aquarium. I was visiting Oregon from Idaho and took my daughters here Friday morning. We had a wonderful time. Even with the renovations, there was still plenty to see and experience.

Really nice aquarium that was reasonably priced. I loved the jelly fish and seals. All the animals/sea life looked well taken care off and the tanks were very clean which is very important in order for me to enjoy an aquarium. Anyone who likes sea creatures reguardless of age would enjoy it here. My kids also loved the touch pool and the aquarium tunnel you can go inside.

Great things to see here. The fish/shark exhibit is by far the best thing here. I feel like the price is a little steep for what is here, but all in all it's a really good stop. They seem to keep it pretty clean and that's nice. All the workers were very polite and professional.

$25 admission was well worth it. Had 1 exhibit closed due to covid and 1 for construction. Saw all the primary animals you would want at the park. Followed covid protocols although they did not enforce people wearing their masks. I would come back here again.

There was a lot to see. The exhibit I was most excited for was closed and the shark tunnel was very loud and a bit overwhelming with kids. If you or a loved one had over-stimulation conditions, be ready to help them through.

A little pricey for admission/tickets. For that price I would like to think that they would have some staff there to educate the public on the different sea life and their habitats that they have there. Most of the information plaques that were next to the exhibits were hard to read due to the lack of lighting... I understand that some exhibits are light sensitive but it wouldn't hurt to have the information lit with a backlight or something similar. Other than that it was a decent family destination and a must if you are in the area. Cheers!!!

So many neat aquariums with cool fish I haven’t seen before or in person. Such a fun and great experience. Loved it. Hope to visit again some day.

A cool little place. We love marine life in our family so we frequently visit aquariums and have been to quite a few. So while On vacation in Newport we hit up this establishment. It was a cool little place that had indoor/outdoor exhibits. It was very busy at the time we went but it was fun and educational.

We have been traveling up the Oregon coast and staying in Newport. Decided to go to the aquarium today. Their avian area and display was closed but the rest of the aquarium was open. Nice aquarium that is focused on the coastal sea life which is no surprise. The aquarium has both inside and outside displays. Lots of fish and displays and they do have an area where you can touch starfish and anemones. The exterior exhibits have otters, seals, and octopus. I do recommend a map to figure out where you want to go.

Truly loved coming here again with my wife for our anniversary. One thing that was very fun and with the extra money was going behind the scenes to pet some jellyfish and learn more about them. If you love jellyfish you need to take the opportunity and do it. I love this place and am so happy it's so nearby

Perfect place to spend the day with family. The exhibits inside are better than expected. I found there be a lot of information on the wildlife and aquatics the seals and other animals were quite adorable what we love. The most was the aquarium with the sharks that you could walk through it was very cool definitely worth the money not as big as a zoo perhaps but still it’s informative and you could spend a good amount of the day there.

Had a fantastic time here with my daughterand her friend! So many fun attractions and animals. The bathrooms, tanks, and walkways are all so clean. Animals were visible and well taken care of. We loved every exhibit and recommended it to anyone and in my opinion it's worth the money. This place is great for anyone especially families too, lots of areas for kids to play in.

We loved every exhibit and enjoyed reading the fun facts posted all over the walls. Worth the money since it’s clearly going to educating the public and keeping the animals in safe spaces! Great for families too, lots of areas for kids to play in!

I never pass up the chance to go to a new aquarium. We were in town for our wedding, and weren't sure if we wanted to go on one of our last days here or just hang out. I'm so glad we did. The shark tunnel was seriously lacking. Basically looked like a concrete box. Terrible lighting, made it very hard to see anything. The rest of the exhibits were beautiful. So vibrant and well decorated, so many different species. I could have spent hours at the touch pool, a great variety of things to interact with. The staff at the pools were friendly and knowledgeable. The landscape of the property is lovely, it's a great immersive experience. The gift shop was mostly well priced, with some overly expensive items here and there. Compared to my local aquarium, their prices were impressive! We also had lunch at Jellyfish Cafe. The prices were good, and not overpriced compared to other places in the area. We all got the chicken strips. They were nice and crispy, but the fries were definitely the star of the show. They were so good and nicely seasoned. We were stuffed but couldn't seem to leave any on our plate!Food came out quickly. We loved sitting next to the moon jellyfish tank.

Great aquarium right on the water. Cool exhibits and fun shows. Staff were all very nice food in Cafe was good and reasonably priced. Really liked the shark tube and the sea lion shown. But all exhibits we're well done. They had the classic jellyfish one as well. Very fun, I love the steam punk exhibits fun story and interesting way to experience the aquarium. We'll be back. Go spend your money where it counts! Here at the aquarium.

$24.95 admission. Plan on 45 minutes to 2 hours if you read everything. At present (Nov. 2020) you must pre-purchase a timed entry ticket online and show the barcode received via email confirmation on your smart phone at entry (or I suppose you could print if so desired). It's Very cold inside: wear many layers of clothing appropriate for cooler than outside temperature. All activities (feedings, talks, trainings, meet and greets) are cancelled. Several areas are closed due to apparent Covid-19 space constraints. If you're prone to thirst, bring water. There are no drinking fountains & they charge $3 for a bottle.

Impromptu visit to this beautiful work of art. Outdoor exhibits just off the coast imitate the perfect natural habitat for the birds and sea lions making it feel like you’re immersed in nature. Great variety of jellyfish. I wish there were more larger animals, but the variety and quality of sea life there is a colorful sight to see! Types of starfish I have never even heard of!

This is one of the nicest aquariums I have visited. The exhibits are well curated, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. We loved the new Steampunk exhibit and the sea otters. The underwater aquarium is amazing and gives a great view of the wildlife. The kids had a great time and loved the animals. We visited on a Friday afternoon, and it was not too busy. There are plenty of places to cool down or warm up.

$24.95 doesn't seem like a great deal considering half the place is ropped off due to covid. I was a bit disappointed, but glad they are open. I did have an awkward moment towards the end of my visit. When approaching the gift shop a young guy came out every angry at me because he thought I wasn't wearing a mask. He said he almost "went down on me" because he thought i wasn't wearing a mask for a minute. I'm not gay, so this was extremely uncomfortable for me.

We had a great visit recently with my almost-2-year old. We went at about 3 in the afternoon and crowds were thin which meant she had lots of room to run around. The staff was incredibly attentive and engaged her at both of the touch tanks. The grassy area outdoors has a beautiful view of Boothbay Harbor and is a great spot for a picnic.

The tiniest aquarium I have ever been to. Also one of the most fun. The main feature is two different touch tanks, one with sharks, skates, and lobsters. The other with starfish, sea cucumbers, lobsters, crabs, scallops, and more. My girlfriend and I really loved both of them and spent a good amount of time at them. The attendants at both tanks were super friendly, knowledgable, and fun to talk to. Would go back. It was very reasonably priced.

Absolutely loved the Aquarium! We took our two boys ages 2 and 5. It was very reasonably priced at $17 to get in. They had alot more to look at than what was on their website. The boys absolutely loved the two dog sharks they had in the big touch tank. One of the staff members there was able to tell them just about everything there was to k ow about the sharks amd the egg sacks floating in the same tank. They had a huge 14lb Lobster my youngest absolutely loved. He was as big as my 2yo. Out side was many great places to have a picnic with amazing views of the ocean. A dock outside had various traps the kids could pull up with crabs inside. Highly recommend the Maine State Aquarium. I would ignor the website as there is much more to see once your there. Will definitely be returning next year.

Totally worth it! 🐟🐠 A mix of indoor and outdoor exhibits with plenty of focus on the local Oregon coast. The crown of this aquarium is the 3 interconnected underwater tunnels showcasing halibut and open ocean habitats. It's worth the hype, it's amazing! The gift shop has the usual fare of corney and expensive gifts you'll regret buying. Ditto for the food. The washrooms were clean and plentiful. Hidden gem is the estuary walk, which has some excellent bird spotting and usually not busy. 🐙🐚

Everyone is so nice, the nature trail and turkey vultures are currently off exhibit due to some construction but they make that very well known before going to the aquarium if you look online. Exhibits are really nice, I live in Washington and I think it’s better than our aquariums. The gift shop is a little weak (wish it had more stuff for adults) but that’s okay.

I like that there were volunteers and staff everywhere to not only keep an eye on things, but answer questions. Some of the area's were closed off-im assuming for upgrades. I like that you can rent a 2-child stroller (in our case it fit 3-silly girls). I especially like $5 Sunday's for Lincoln County residents. Everything has been limited for so long it was nice to go somewhere as a family and enjoy ourselves! Exhibits were awesome and we all had a great time! And staff was right there to help my grandkids and answer all their questions! It was nice! Great job guys keep up the good work 👍.

A very nice place to enjoy the morning with the kids. My son enjoyed watching the seals and sea lions swim laps and play by the observation windows. There is also a great playground to help burn off some energy. I would suggest getting a spot early for any of the feedings or you're going to miss out. It didn't seem like there were too many people in the park but the crowd appeared from nowhere at feeding time. A big gift shop with something for everyone. Great fun.

Don't get me wrong I'm writing a five-star review because we enjoyed it but overall bias just because we enjoyed it is not what I like to blindly do, here's the important stuff, we arrived three adults one under 18 it was a total of $109, we went in no wait, All the important main exhibits are free but the smaller things like food drinks and for example the hurricane simulator are not, at certain times there's a chance for you to see the animals getting fed it's over the loud speaker you won't miss it, it's a medium sized area for you to cover so if you walk for example slowly you may only get to half of the exhibits in half an hour for example. Overall it's pretty fun if you are like me who Is enthusiastic about aquariums and outings, but if you are a little strapped on cash and are thinking twice about it I would recommend otherwise.

This is my son’s favorite place in the world. We have had memberships for five years and highly recommend you get one if you go more than twice. They change it up every so often. It’s fun and also has a new playground. It’s a nice spot to bring a packed lunch at the picnic tables past the shark tunnels. The tunnels are beautiful and it’s fun to see all the rockfish.

Oregon Coast Aquarium nestled along the stunning Pacific shoreline, offered my toddlers an amazing experience. They explored interactive exhibits that brought the coastal ecosystem to life, featuring a diverse array of sea creatures, from colorful tide pool inhabitants to majestic sharks. They loved the enchanting underwater tunnels providing a 360-degree view of the ocean realm. With a strong emphasis on marine conservation and education, the Oregon Coast Aquarium provided a memorable and educational experience for visitors of all ages. I loved the curated book collection for kids to read, along with the ones displayed for purchase. My kids felt that their favorite book, “Big Beautiful Ocean,” was brought to life. My toddlers get excited when they see something from picture books in reality.

We again had a great time at the aquarium. We enjoyed the newest change of the Indo-Pacific tank, there were so many Yellow Tangs. The one way path that allows us to explore all the open sections of the campus was backwards to our normal way we've been taking for 13 years and it was nice. Thank you for all the good memories.

It's a cool place, but I wish it was bigger!! It doesn't take very long to see everything. The otter was my favorite part. Plus it's cool to talk to the people that work there, they're all pretty down to earth and passionate about their job.

  • 5/5 Kayla K. 4 years ago on Google
We loved the aquarium. It is a great way for visitors and locals to learn about the wildlife in Oregon and to learn about how to help the environment. It is a great place for kids to have hands-on learning while having fun. There were many feeding demonstrations and talks about the animals that the workers hosted. There was a cafe to eat at. There are indoor and outdoor portions, and even a "nature walk". Unfortunately we did not see any wildlife on the nature walk besides the plants.

  • 5/5 Donald D. 4 years ago on Google
One of the best aquarium experiences ever...anywhere. They always have a fun, interesting special exhibit, and the long term displays are world class! I always love the jelly tank, the otters and seabirds are amazing, and walking through the shark tank is worth the admission by itself.

  • 2/5 Richard N. 3 years ago on Google
I'm sorry guys. The people are really nice, I know it's an expensive place to run, but it seemed really grungy, dirty and outdated outside. The steam punk theme was a nice attempt at sprucing things up, but not well integrated. The outside animals seemed unhappy dirty and "weathered". It was kind of sad. I will always support wildlife conservation and I respect how hard it must be to keep it clean. I guess I wish they would just let all the outside animals go and convert to video of free, happy animals in the wild. The aquarium tunnel was really the only highlight for me. 😢

  • 5/5 Michael L. 4 years ago on Google
Great aquarium, specializing in Oregon coast aquatic species. Cool "sea punk" exhibit, good for the kids. Three underwater walking tanks, including below the floor windows. Delightful foliage and nature pathways, situated on the bay.

What an incredible place to view sharks, tuna, sea otters, giant rays, sturgeon, rockfish, trigger fish, all kinds of eals, gigantic starfish, spider crabs, and beautiful white jelly fish, just to name a few...holy mackerel! What a thrill to be able to see all of these animals in one day, at one place! I'm so glad I went, and feel like I came away with a better understanding of how underwater animals live.

For 24.95 a person with 1/2 the exhibits closed (due to Covid-19) , i do feel like there should be a small discount. The day we did go, it was feeding time for the animals that were opened.

We had a great time at the Oregon Coast Aquarium! Their COVID procedures and precautions were top notch. The best part was a volunteer (Joe) who was readily available to answer questions about the animals, marine life and birds. Some attractions were closed, but we got to see a quite a bit.

(Oct. 6, 2020 Visit) It's always such a joy to come back here, year after year! The moment we drive away, we are already thinking about our next visit. I (Dana) could watch the puffins for hours, and I visit the online sea bird webcam almost every day! Our daughter loves the rockfish the most, and I love them, too! They play peek-a-boo with you! And, of course, the cowfish are adorable and the nettles are gorgeous! The aquarium has adapted very well to the COVID-19 restrictions. We do look forward to the day that the Ferry Slip Cafe opens up again, because the food is wonderful. The volunteers, who are stationed all around, are so helpful. We enjoyed chatting with the charming man in the sea bird aviary. Volunteer Jan S. really went above and beyond for us! She immediately greeted us when we arrived, and later on we became turned around looking for the water refill station! She sent us in the right direction, and was so helpful. Thank you so much! You all are a great team!

  • 5/5 Ryan J. 3 years ago on Google
Totally amazing! Wow! So much cool stuff to see! Who needs space aliens when we have cool alien looking stuff in the ocean? It's one thing to see this stuff on the internet, but a whole new level to see it live! The staff was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was great. Everything was wheel chair accessible and there were plenty of bathrooms and benches. The underwater tunnel of fish hallway was a bit overwhelming for small children, but the rest wasn't a problem at all. It wasn't loud in any way, and other than the fish tunnel, it wasn't overly flashy over overstimulating that I could tell. The Seapunk exhibit was especially interesting. Would highly recommend! P.S. If you can, the "adopt an animal" program is great! You get a fun gift box. We adopted a adorable sea otter named Oswald. No, you don't actually get to take him home (obviously), but you get a cool gift box, a cute fuzzy stuffed animal, and a nice card. The proceeds go to his care and feeding.

Really fun place to spend time with the family.

  • 3/5 Melissa K. 3 years ago on Google
The tunnels were crowded with too many people. Not social distanced. People ignore the signs. Would be better if they had a staff person allowing a few people to go through at a time. Also they might consider an air filtration system down there. The sea otter tank had weird slimy algae looking stuff in it and a lot of it. I noticed the sea otters were fighting. I don't know if it was natural behavior or aggression exacerbated by living in a tank that was so gross. I'm no expert but it felt unhealthy to me. Lastly, they don't seem to have anyone answering their phones. I called a number of times to try to see if we could get our scheduled time moved and there was only long ringing and a voice-mail. Of course there were many lovely aspects about the place and the creatures. As a whole they seemed well taken care of.

Seriously? Again with the price hikes? I remember 10 years ago this place cost 15 dollars per person now it's $25 dollars per person! The Oregon Zoo costs less and there's more to see and do there. But, if you want to go here, it is a neat place to see marine life. The underwater tunnels are the highlight whenever I go here. No discount admission even when some exhibits are closed due to the pandemic nonsense.

Small but cute. Had a lot of fun on the pier behind the aquarium pulling up different traps to see what’s inside. Not a lot to see inside, very small, but the kids still enjoyed it and the drive to it is nice and winding.

Perfect for young visitors. It isn't huge, but it has two hands-on exhibits, including one with pet-able sharks. Also good info on local marine life.

  • 4/5 Liz B. 6 years ago on Google
Agree with the other reviews that this place is tiny, but it was great for my almost 3-yr-old. The touch tank is big and has a lot of neat stuff in it: urchins, sea cucumbers, crabs, star fish, scallops, clams, even a little lobster. Petting a small shark in the shark tanks was cool too. The free bait and use of rod at the dock outside is also really nice. There were thousands of mackerel swimming by while we were there.

Love this place! Small as far as aquariums go. And was very crowded at the busy times. The touch tanks are AMAZING. We spent hours at them. The sharks were so much fun. I could have pet them for days. It was really cool, you could go fishing off the dock. They supplied everything. They had a craft section, and different presentations. Definitely can't wait to go back.

Great for younger kids! Not a whole lot of displays, but they offer a really cool touch tank, and a tank of sturgeons you can pet. They usually have a "lecture" where they teach you about different sea animals. Last time we went it was on Lobsters and Lobstering. You can also go to the peir and fish! We go every year! Also the price of admission is VERY reasonable!

It was sad to see the state of the aquarium after covid. I remember the times when there were many spider crabs, and the outdoor area was large. Now, the petting tanks and most of the outside gardens were closed. I want to support the aquarium, but unfortunately I can't give it 5 stars. Also, the exhibition on fossils was completely uninteresting to us salt least. I much rather would have seen sea or aquatic life than a bunch of fossils. I do have to say that the ladies doing the bird feeding did a great job speaking to the crowd.

  • 3/5 Chris B. 2 years ago on Google
Went to the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport, Oregon, to kill some time before getting my booster Covid-19 shot. I always enjoy coming here to watch the otters, sea lions and the sharks from the Passages from Deep exhibit, which ironically reminds of the Sea World Aquarium from JAWS 3D; just expecting Shelby Overman's mutilated bitten corpse to pop up somewhere in the Spanish Gallon portion of the exhibit...Lol!!! The Cruising the Fossil Coastline exhibit is also very informative too.

Tickets are a bit expensive and are per-person, no discounted packages for small groups or families (large groups of 15+ yes but still only 10% off). However it is still a neat and worthwhile spot to have an outing with the family, especially for those interested in marine life. Lots of different exhibits both indoor and outdoor for a variety of different animals and environments.

This aquarium has a cafe and a jellyfish exhibit upon entry to the aquarium. The aquarium is not inside, but has outside walking paths to the exhibits. Some of the exhibits are puffins, and passages of the deep which has like an entire eco-system including sharks, schools of fish, stingrays, etc. Overall I would come here again.
