I have had the opportunity to visit this museum multiple times, and I must say it is great. However, it is worth noting that certain sections of the museum are currently undergoing renovations. With that being said, if you're an animation enthusiast, make sure not to miss the Crafting Pinocchio exhibition. It provided me with a deeper understanding of the intricate process and the tremendous effort invested by the team in bringing this movie to life. It is one of my most favorite exhibitions! There are also some related events, check them out.

Portland Art Museum is a nice museum houses good collection of works related to American Art, European Art, Chinese Art, and sculptures from Asia, China. The Art works displayed are very beautiful. The paintings of last decades/centuries are superb. Native American Art is also very beautiful. Museum Store has collection of Arts and Crafts. One can buy collectors items as a memory of the visit to museum. Overall a very good experience.

I LOVED IT! 😃 I hadn't been to a Museum in so many years! I truly enjoyed myself. I also (not even knowing) came across 2 pictures of my deceased child Tete Gulley. That really Touched my Heart. I thought I was going to cry, but I did REALLY good!

Pretty cool place to check out in Portland. The abstract section was a lot more interesting in my opinion, but there were a lot of eye catching painting I came across looking through the whole museum! Definitely worth taking a look at if you enjoy art appreciation

I liked my time at the P.A.M. They are hosting the Diego Rivera and Frita exhibit which made the entrance fee worth it alone. Had wonderful paintings and intimate photos of their lives. The museum is larger than it appears from outside and I comfortably got through it in about an hour and forty five minutes. Seating and restrooms with a nice gift shop on the end. School groups can make the rooms loud along with the creaky wooden floors but overall a pleasant experience. I would give it a recommend while in Portland as long as it has a major exhibit going on.

We went shortly after it opened and it wasn't too busy for a weekday. Lots of different styles and tastes to view. So much history and beauty to behold. Definitely a place to check out as their exhibits change every so often.

Free for veterans and active duty! [Bring your ID] I'm normally not one for art, but I really learned about Pan-Africanism, and the fashions across African nations and the diaspora overeas! Really awesome displays! Tip of the hat🎩 to the curators for putting on an exhibit! Well done! I can't wait to come back and check out other exhibits! Too bad my girlfriend wasn't here with me for this 😢, but I'd like to take her here with me some day. Also bought a banglet for her at their gift store. Definitely worth checking out!

I’m sorry to say that this is the worst experience I’ve ever had in a museum. No artifacts.. Nothing from heritage.. it’s nothing like the Smithsonian museum in DC. I couldn’t stand 20 minutes of senseless art that has nothing to do with Africa. Sorry if my words are harsh.

Amazing art Museum that covers two buildings. If you have been to large city art museums, it is hard to compete with the scope of European artists. What really impressed me was the First Nations art, contemporary art selections and the Perspectives. Well worth the visit!

I love the gift shop! Unique gifts and handmade items that support the arts. Not to mention the wonderful exhibits. Definitely worth stopping by the gift shop because it’s free to enter and you get a quick taste of the exhibits waiting inside the museum.

Been wanting to go here my whole adult life. Had a wonderful time. Give yourself several hours as there are many beautiful, ornate and curious works of art worth your notice and study. I promise none of my pics do them justice.

It's a wonderful museum with a great exhibit going on right now on Black art. A definite worthwhile visit while you're in Portland.

Fantastic walk through experience. Making Pinocchio was fascinating, still life galleries kept me enthralled for hours, and a good variety of pieces in these collections. PAM does feel pretty small for a city the size of Portland. Though I visited the museum during exhibit changing and moving so at least 2 spaces were closed.

My second time at this lovely little museum. While their exhibitions are always top-notch, be aware that only half of the museum is on display while they finish their renovations. I would've still paid the admission to get in, but I think it would've been appropriate to let guests know that ahead of paying for a fairly expensive admission. Still, a lovely time and a beautiful curation.

Had a great time walking through the exhibit. We went early, but was it still pretty busy. They probably should've spaced groups out by 30 minutes instead of 15, but it was still wonderful to see. The rest of the museum was less crowded.

The ancient Chinese artifacts were my favorite part of the museum. So many were BC and so well preserved. The museum has a good flow with a nice mix of present day and antiquities. There is something for everyone.

Toured the Guillermo del Toro exhibit today. ❤️ loved it! Lots of sets, behind the scenes information, tearing the animation into parts, and describing how it's made. We really enjoyed our visit.

The most interesting part of the museum is a temporary exhibition “Africa fashion”. Everything else is not very interesting, unfortunately 😔 But in general I am satisfied with the visit

I adore Guillermo del Toro but donated set pieces and props from a Netflix film, no matter how unique, have no business being the centerpiece of a city's marquee museum. Less than half the museum space is occupied and the majority of the floors were closed. And they still charge $25! Portland deserves a better museum.

Well when they had the last exhibit showing, of a Diego Rivera that was really an awesome group of people there I really enjoyed it someone bought me a ticket which I've never been able to experience or enjoy the pleasures of an art museum being homeless for 20 years but now I have and I'm very grateful for whoever bought me a ticket and it was a wonderful beautiful experience and the people are so kind and genuine and nice and I really appreciate everything that everybody does for me there cuz I also sell Street routes newspapers there so thank you Portland for everything I appreciate you and I honor you guys for all that you do all of you and we should remember that we are all gods and that we need to honor each other as such for God is inside all of us and energy is God and energy is all around us at all times just food for thought family!

I am extremely disappointed and disgusted. I came to view the native artifacts only to find out that half of the museum is closed. Including the native artifacts floor on level two that I was most interested in. This museum is more like a secret society exhibit 👁. Check out the pictures and see for yourself. George Orwell — 'Those who control the present, control the past and those who control the past control the future.' I received a refund after I voiced my concerns. This trip to the museum today was a major let down. I am beyond mad! This is blasphemy against the natives!

Great place to muse over the arts. Give yourself a few hours to soak it in. I barely touched the surface in 45 minutes. I’ll have to go back to get the full experience. The place is staffed by some friendly folks. The Botticelli piece on exhibit is the phenomenal. Such vivid colors for being nearly 600 years old. Lovely day in downtown Portland.

We saw the Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and Mexican Modernism exhibit. It's always exciting for me to see the original art, something like hearing live music instead of recorded over questionable quality speakers. I also enjoyed the collection of clothing from southern Mexico. The narratives in the exhibit tell part of the story of Mexico, our neighbor to the south, that too few people get to know beyond Dos Xx beer and tacos. It is a beautiful country with many beautiful people...

Nefertari exhibit. Awesome sarcophagi, stela, cartouches, ushabtis, Ramesses II, III, IV. You will not be disappointed. Most artifacts from a museum in Turin, Italy. Several rooms. Not just a handful. Worth the two hour drive from home.

Beautiful museum. We came here for the Frieda exhibit and were blown away by it. Didn't purchase tickets ahead of time but we had no issues buying them at the door! The first hour after opening is saved just for museum members, but we killed some time by walking through the other areas and exhibits of the museum.

Great art and history here. Right from American history to the rest of the world. A lot of art as well which goes hand in hand to how Portland is. There is a nice coffee and gift shop too. Parking needs to be done outside where there is space and it is often crowded.

Very beautiful art! The front desk was very helpful in giving me directions my first time visiting! Wish they had more copies in the gift shop of the art displayed in the museum for purchase! Most definitely will come again! Thanks!

What an educational day! The exhibitions: African Fashion & Black Artist of Oregon took us through the historical context of beautiful cultures and gave us the opportunity to make connections with the uses of visual and literary tools.

An enormous selection of all flavors of art and artifacts. I don't know if it's possible to see and appreciate everything in a single day, but we spent just about the full 7 hours doing our absolute best. The recent Queen Nefertari exhibit was fascinating. Will definitely be back!

Absolutely incredible museum. Plan to spend a whole day here! They currently have the most riveting exhibit I've ever seen: Rock of Ages by Isaka Shamsud-Din (a few pictures attached but you'll have to visit the museum to see the titular piece!)

It was a nice museum has 2 buildings with multiple floors. If this is something your into I highly recommend. There was definitely a lot of art and history here!

The African Fashion exhibition stole the show. I literally cried while walking through all the magnificent designs. If you have no other reason to visit Portland, this exhibition is it!

Nice museum that puts on some good shows but some of the modern art seems a bit stale. The Gift store is terrible, apparently appealing to a retiree demographic whose husbands have long died. PAM needs to get with the times on that one.

It was still beautiful but the renovation is processing. Only two exhibition at the moment. Washroom was far from hall. Check the schedule before you make a plan

Such an awesome museum! Even the park across the museum is chill! Multiple floors to take in all the art and its divided into different floors on different building with an underground walkway to the areas. The special art was from Guillermo del Toro and his Pinocchio film which was amazing seeing how intricate it was made.

The art museum is amazing. There's so many different artists on display. Different styles of art, sculptures and paintings that it was almost overwhelming. I highly recommend you pace yourself

  • 4/5 Paula G. 10 months ago on Google
Went specifically for the Guillermo del Toro "Pinocchio" exhibit. Which was well worth the price of admission. And a really big deal for the art and artists who brought this movie to the world. The museum itself is going through some renovations and a bit...in flux. But I did get to see a quite a few paintings, both old and new. Elevators make it accessible. The museum is light, airy and spacious with plenty of benches!! Gift shop is exemplary!!! It was my first visit. I'm glad I went!!

  • 5/5 Vincent M. 9 months ago on Google
They had a Pinocchio special exhibit, highlighting portlands contributions to this Oscar winning netflix film. Was done very well. The regular collection is small but has a number of impressionist paintings worth a view if already there.

  • 5/5 Kellie D. 1 year ago on Google
Excellent museum! Kind of like a maze, even woth the map, but I didn't mind as I perused the wide variety of art that was there. It was very peaceful. Also - if you are a student anywhere you can get the doscount! I attend university in Florida and they accepted my ID.

  • 5/5 Joel K. 10 months ago on Google
Several significant sections of the museum were closed off either due to construction or exhibit changes, but still probably worth the price of entry. It's a small but extremely well-varied collection including everything from ancient Native American art to famous impressionists to modern art including pieces produced by active, contemporary artists with the last few years. We spent about two hours to appreciate everything on display, but some art lovers may need to budget a bit more depending on their viewing pace.

I had wonderful time at the museum viewing the Native American and African American exhibits that are currently on display. I was a chaperone on my daughter’s class field trip and I was thrilled to find out that field trips are FREE! Lots of great conversations to be had about art, culture, and the role it plays in our communities. Made me feel very proud to see how much the city and the donors care about preserving important artifacts to be shared with the public for generations to come.

Beautiful and diverse collection of art with frequently awe-inspiring installations. Directions and navigation around the grounds is a little confusing but it’s an okay place to get lost with the sheer amount of beauty. Note: Not necessarily kid friendly. The environment is more-so for mature audiences and there is a need for tranquility to really appreciate the experience (which is a challenge when there are children running circles around you).

  • 5/5 Paul V. 1 year ago on Google
I loved the museum! So much culture and beauty in one place.
