The museum was phenomenal! It is huge with art work from many different regions! The museum is divided into regions and there was definitely more than enough to see in each section, so be prepared to walk a lot! (Don't worry though, there are many places to sit) I highly recommend buying tickets online ahead of time because if you wait to buy it in person, be prepared to stand in line for a while. Be sure to check online what unique exhibits they have going on at the time, because they are definitely worth seeing and you don't want to miss out on it!

One of the best museums that I've ever been to, aside from the Louvre in Paris. It's one of the few places that is always on my list whenever I'm in New York. The MET is a big museum with lots to see, it's hard to see all the art and artifacts within a day so if you're looking to explore as much of the museum as possible I recommend going early. You can grab a ticket from the ticketing desk when you're there or from the automated kiosk, I highly recommend the automated kiosk since it is much faster. There's audio guides for the art and artifacts within the MET which I highly recommend, since it gives context to what you're looking at. The museum is beautifully set up and built, they have permanent and temporary exhibits. Every exhibit is made with such care that you feel as though you're transported back in time. The Chinese courtyard inside the museum is one of my favourites. I also got a chance to see a lot of beautiful dresses for their fashion week exhibit, which was very tastefully displayed and set up. I highly recommend the MET for anyone looking to checkout a museum with lots of interesting arts and artifacts! It's definitely an experience like no other.

This museum is massive. You can probably take a couple days to see the whole thing. I went once and saw a good 40-50% of it. I’ll have to return to see the rest of it. Admission is $30 for an adult. If you want to pay less than the general admission ticket then you need a valid state ID. However, even though I wasn’t a resident and just a visitor, they let me pay how much I wanted to pay. One guy in front of me just gave a penny, I decided to give them $10. Employees were very nice and pleasant. Plan to go on a week day for lesser crowds versus on the weekends or holiday weekends. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

This has been one of the biggest and one of my favorite museums I’ve visited. In summary, it contains art from all over the world. A large part of the paintings are European. The art includes not just platings but also sculptures and other works of art. Some of the highlights there are a full size Egyptian temple, a weapons and armor gallery, and a diverse Southern Asia gallery with large pieces of art. I would recommend booking tickets in advance and you do have to where a mask everywhere in the museum (except while taking pictures).

I brought my son to view the Arms and Armor exhibit because he is 10 years old and into medieval knights and swords. We were very impressed by the medieval collection. Such detail and variety and eras. We were also impressed by the Japanese, Chinese, Ottoman, and Syrian collections. I was pleasantly surprised by how rich and varied the entire museum's collection is. It is such a large building and so well organized and maintained. It's nice to see how much they focus on education and they let kids under 12 in for free

Grate museum, unique and huge! it’s must have to visit if you are in New York, be sure to have plenty of free time and comfortable shoes on to walk through this museum. Not sure if small kids will have enough patience to walk as it’s crowded and really big. Different rooms, wonderful expositions in many floors. Its better to get tickets before and still a long tail to the entrance but it worth it. Museum opens at 10 am. Tickets cost is 30$ each and for kids till 12 are free. Love it, was wonderful experience.

This was a great museum to visit. We had seen the natural history museum just the other day and were excited to contrast a little. The galleries that the MET had to offer were really impressive. So much history to see through the various items in the museum. I'm a medieval fan so I enjoyed seeing all that armor and jousting stuff, swords were really cool. With the artwork, it is incredible to see things in person for once, that you have only seen online ever before. As with all great museums, you could spend a few days reading through and looking at everything. You'll learn something, that's a guarantee! Some of these paintings look photographic portraits! We left around 8p, getting a cab seemed practically impossible, but it'll happen after a few minutes!

Came here for the first time and loved it so much. The exhibits were beautiful but it’s easy to get lost if trying to get out even with a map. The folks who worked here were nice except for a older white gentleman who was extremely unhelpful and borderline rude compared to how he responded to the Caucasian family before us and how he responded to us. Other than him, we had a good time. The cafe was open but we didn’t go because of the excessive amount of people who were inside of it. Many areas to stop And sit and I really adored how much of a variety the exhibits had: almost every culture was represented in some Fashion. We also didn’t get to see the fashion exhibit because of the long line but maybe next time. Or maybe not. It’s best to buy tickets before so you don’t have to deal with the kiosks. Also, bring a bottled water because it’s pricey here. One of the atm’s doesn’t work to get cash. We will def come back but for family’s I do not recommend you bring a stroller. Some Of the areas you will pass are not very accessible to strollers or wheelchairs and to be honest, there are so many people so close to each other I likely wouldn’t even bring a kid unless you Come when it’s not so crowded.

Love love love. This museum has the most robust and comprehensive collections of the ancient artworks about Greece, Rome, Asia and Egypt in the US. A must go if you’re an ancient culture lover. Best tips are to get tickets online ahead of time to skip the waiting line, enter at its opening and leave until it closes. It’s a full day museum. There’s no way you can complete a tour in a few hours. So better bring a phone bank if your phone does not last a full day. So many pictures you’d want to take.

This museum is one of the largest museums in the world, but is still beautiful inside and out. There are literally tons of items to see, so allocate sufficient time to this museum. It would also be good to keep in mind that they close on Wednesdays and have extended hours on Fridays and Saturdays. I went there on a weekday other than those days and they closed at 5:00 PM, which felt kind of early for a museum of this scale.

This place is HUGE. I could have spent days here. Highly recommend buying tickets ahead of time, and making sure you carve out at least 3-5 hours to have ample time to see everything you want so as to make your $25 worthwhile.

This is the best art the museum that I’ve ever been to in my life. I went here in 2018 and the art that is in this building is something that I have never seen before their collections are exquisite and classic they have something for everybody and the artistic integrity is kept very well within these walls. 5/5 place I recommend this to anybody that goes to New York or even to United States this is a must go place.

My favorite museum in the world. You definitely need a whole day or probably more to be able to see all the pieces they have. I enjoyed the Greek and Egypt exhibits the most. Everything is perfectly conserved and there’s a lot of attention to the layout of the museum. The only thing I didn’t like is that a guard yelled at me when I was taking pictures. I didn’t see any sign. He could have been more gentle.

I was ready to give this 4 stars or less but, honestly, the museum was so well put together I have to go 5 stars. The collection is incredibly vast but displayed in a way that makes it accessible. The descriptions of the pieces are helpful and thorough. The audio guide (free on your phone) was very helpful as well. We spent 3 hours here and did about 3/4 of the exhibits. I got in free as a military member. Good for families but I imagine younger children will tire quickly. Overall a great experience.

Everything is great about this place. I am pretty sure it is impossible to see everything in a single visit, possibly two, from how massive this place is. Took the kids, and they were having a blast looking at everything while asking questions, trying to learn about everything we saw. Honestly, there is very little to complain about. It may be crowded at times... but if that happens, move to a different area and come back later. Walking around almost becomes an adventure, as it can feel like a maze at times 😀 It's great. We loved it. Look forward to visiting again whenever we get a chance to come back to NYC.

I always visit the MET at least once when I visit NYC. Its the kind of museum which you loose yourself in it and then you have to start from the entrance again. The price is reasonable for the size of the collection and pristine care of things. I enjoyed every moment and it would take me many days of non stop visits to see the whole thing and learn about the pieces. It’s someplace I hope to come back to and explore more. Prepare yourself for a lot of walking but it's worth it. I stay there for at least 2-3 hours each visit.

Per its name, you can tell that this museum is all about art. I decided to go with friends and try the Date Night at the MET. There is honestly not much difference, although I do feel the Zen garden and American Wing is much prettier at night, rather than the day. That said, I recommend coming early to this museum. It is quite large and will take up most of your day. If you just want a quick peak, then grab a map and make sure you plan your route ahead of time. There is a mini floor 1.5, although the stairs is a bit tricky to locate. Nonetheless, feel free to find the areas/topics that fits best for you. I also do not recommend buying tickets in advance as the pay-what-you-wish can only be done in-person. There is practically no wait time, so you should just buy the tickets in-person.

This is definitely a NYC Icon!!! This is an amazing museum with something for everyone. This place is for the locals and tourists and everything in-between. This amazing space has everything you need. I don’t even know where to begin with this place. I say start with the Greeks and make your way to the Egyptians. The rooftop is not to be missed. It does have a rotating exhibit so come back again and again. The restaurants are closed so time yourself going in either after breakfast or after lunch. I highly highly recommend this place!

The fee asked for the visit of the museum is up to you, there is no established amount and no entrance ticket. However, the manager of the museum chased me during the whole visit, insisting on giving him money, he didn' t leave me alone. I really got fed up with him, and left the museum earlier because his behaviour.

Such an amazing museum, is located right at Central Park, staff very professional and helpful. Museum has three floors each floor is focused on different cultures. A lot to learn for those of us who are into art & history, plan to spend at least 3-4 hours to really go over in detail each section. If a ever go back to New York will definitely visit the Met museum again.

If you love art, then you have to visit this place. You can spend the entire day here — so much to see. Although it is not as expansive as the Louvre, it still has a lot to offer. I have been to the Getty, Guggenheim, Chicago Art Institute, and by far, I think this is the best art museum in the United States. If I have the opportunity to visit NY again, I will definitely visit this museum again.

This museum is great but definitely be prepared to spend hours there. There is so much to see you could dedicate an entire day to just this attraction if you want to see everything. The lobby was very busy but since the rest of the museum is very spread out, it wasn’t too crowded to walk through all the rooms. I really enjoyed the music exhibition.

Fantastic way to spend an afternoon. So much history and amazing works of art all throughout. Avoid the MASSIVE ticket lines by buying online or using the mobile kiosk by the Egyptian section entrance. There are also some spots to grab a quick snack or drink that are beautifully hidden so as to not be distracting. Most visitors are respectful and there are employees at every corner. Be sure to visit every exhibit and area! There are great pieces in the American and European paintings but also the Greek and Roman sculptures and Asian works of art. Truly a massive display of artistic history!

Please come and enjoy! Little and huge pieces of history from all around the world. It’s shocking! Take your time, the museum is huge. There is a hidden rooftop bar on the fifth floor, it’s a amazing place for sunset watch on Saturday’s and enjoy beautiful views from the Central Park and the city.

Beautiful museum! So much to learn about! Amazing to see part of these 5000 years of global history and art regrouped in a single place. I loved the Greek & Roman Art, and I was specially moved by the "Artists of the Holocaust" exhibition (April - Sept 2023). One can also learn more about the American art (American Wing). All the exhibitions are tempting, and one day is certainly not enough to visit it all fully! Besides the exhibitions, the Museum itself is beautiful, spacious, clean & the staff is more than friendly to share recommendations and tips. Loved this visit, a must to everyone passing by NY!

One of the best museums you will find in the US. I was in there for at least 5 hours until I realized it was closing time, such a wealth of knowledge and art to behold. Definitely try to see everything, and set aside some time in order to properly browse a potential favorite section. You may even have to find yourself revisiting to get the ultimate experience. About an hour walk from New York Penn Station, which was definitely enjoyable. You’ll find yourself walking through Time Square and Central Park. Could always take the subway, and save time.

The MET was incredibly busy the day after Christmas. The nonmember line was down the street. Having a membership gave us a shorter line and quicker access. Impossible to cover everything in one day. We went to the Manet/Degas exhibit specifically, which was really cool. I liked the way they prepared the exhibit, and I was able to appreciate most every piece on display without feeling rushed. Busy still, but enjoyable. Their nativity scene with all the miniatures was also incredible and impressive. For those who can visit the museum more often, a membership is worth the cost.

Huge museum, grab a map and just start walking. I would start at one end, walk to other end, go up to next floor and do the same. We saw a special Exhibit about Harlem Artist. Incredible and the fashion exhibit on lower level is always a must see. Try not to stop and think about all the tombs and artifacts that were "taken" from All over the world 🙄

The environment is beautiful with some large playground or picnic area for children and adults . I even saw some children come in for excursion. If you're a picture freak like me, I'm sorry but no camera is allowed inside the building. But you can snap outside. The gate fee is 200 naira which I think is super fair. I didn't get to enter inside though cos I was late for an event but I will surely go another time. From what I saw , it's a good place for art lovers and adventurous people.

This is hands down the best museum I have ever been to. There is so much to see, so I'd recommend planning to be here 4+ hours at least. Pricing is affordable at $25/ticket for non-residents. Check online to see if any exhibits are closed, there were a few closed exhibits for New York's Met Gala event, which was disappointing because we weren't expecting that. Otherwise, come prepared to be in awe of the incredible history here.

The Met is amazing. Under one roof you can see ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian artifacts, as well as unique pieces of furniture and clothing but most impressive is the priceless works of art from multiple genres. The Met is an incredible place to see the work of masters up close and personal. Don't miss it. I recommend buying tickets online in advance so you are guaranteed admission on your day of choosing. Plan for a 3 hour visit here if it is your first time.

It's The Met - an icon alongside the Louvre, the Vatican, and the British Museum. A must-see experience. My personal faves are the Ancient Egypt galleries and the Temple of Dendur, which has its own wing. If you can't make it to any of the Cairo Museums, this will hold you over until you can. On the evening I visited, I walked into the European paintings gallery, saw a de la Tour and found myself serenaded by a string trio. (It's all about ambience.) The Rembrandt & Rubens pieces are not to be missed. There is also a particularly amusing Bosch. Do not ignore the Medieval Galleries. If you are a fan of armor and it's evolution, you will enjoy these magnificent displays, most of them fully restored. The stylized Bavarian hunting rifles are beautiful as are the ceremonial swords from many parts of the world. One day is never enough to see the wealth of this museum. Something for everyone and well worth the visit.

One of the best museums in the world. It’s possible for a visitor to spend a day here and have seen something beautiful in a beautiful place. Two days would probably make it feel like it does to me. A familiar, beautiful place. Probably my favorite place to spend time in the City. It’s quiet and crowded. Special exhibitions are often packed but worth it (show up early). How kids engage the Met is often something joyful to see. TIP: if you visit with a local, they can buy tickets for a reduced price. Weekends and Friday evenings are crowded.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is my all-time favorite museum I have ever been to, and each time I go, I see and learn and experience more and more. The size of the museum is significant, and it can be days and multiple trips to walk through and see all there is to offer. It's a beautiful building and the architecture of it is something to marvel at. On my most recent trip, I was able to experience the Manet and Degas exhibit, and it was incredible. There was so much art and detail to attention that made the experience worth the price of admission. Each visit, I also always have to make sure I go look at the American wing to see Washington crossing the Delaware. The size of the painting is such a marvel, and seeing it in person is quite spectacular. I also love seeing the recreations of rooms and the classic American furniture and displays of how early Americans lived. I spent a lot of time exploring the Islamic world section at my most recent visit, and it was breathtaking to see all the beautiful and ornate peices and hand woven rugs that are over 500 years old. Also, I love seeing all the old weapons and armour, it's fascinating to see such ornate and detailed swords and guns.

Just incredible! I must say, I was pretty impressed with Chicago Institute of Art, MET took it to next level! I would suggest visiting before noon, as it gets really packed afterwards! We were able to explore everything without being overwhelmed with crowds! Being from India, i thoroughly enjoyed the Ganesha exhibition and Art of Asia section! Roman, middle eastern and European paintings were amazing exhibitions as well! Will be back to explore different sections!

I thought museums of any kind were just boring and an excuse to just waste a day looking at once was. However, as a student, I believe museums are the greatest places on Earth. The ability to be able to see parts of history or generations of art, on display, is something that many take for granted. I got to museum, low and behold I got the view of Nigerian political and cultural history.

The Met is celebrating its 150 years with a fabulous exhibition. Masks are mandatory and a 25% capacity is in place. Max Hollien, the Met’s Director, has also implemented a one-way-circulation inside all room, facilitating physical space and a smoother flow. All the windows shine and everything looks pristine. The National Museum of Sudan or Sudan National Museum, abbreviated SNM, is a double storied building constructed in 1955 and established as a museum in 1971. The building and its surrounding gardens house the largest and most comprehensive Nubianarchaeological collection in the world including objects from the Paleolithic through to the Islamic period originating from every site of importance in the Sudan. Beautiful, calm. A true experience. The sculpture collections took my breath away, and I never thought of myself as a fan of 3D art. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to explore Henri Matisse's work, and my eye spied a Georgia O'Keefe piece that wasn't of flowers! This museum would take at least a full day to truly explore, so don't expect to see even half of it in two hours.

I always love going to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I made reservations before going bc I thought reservations were needed. However, once I got there, after standing on a socially distanced line and having my temperature taken, did I see that I could've just come and bought my tickets the day of. You need to wear your mask at all times.I arrived at 10:15am and the museum was not crowded. Everyone was able to maintain 6ft or more at some exhibits. I enjoyed looking at all the beautiful art work. I plan to return on another day.

Always a great experience. The staff are friendly and helpful. Not all areas of the museum are accessible, so if you’re in a wheelchair, make sure you understand this before going. Most areas are accessible, there are only a couple of exhibits that have stairs. The roof deck is amazing with panoramic views. We had a wonderful time.

Incredible art, good social distancing practices, and overall it was well run! I would highly recommend visiting the Met if you come to New York. In terms of the exhibits, they were well organized: they're together by genre, and they aren't too crammed. There's a great flow between modern and older art, with high-quality historical descriptions. It's kid friendly (as long as they're aware that they can't touch things).

The Met is such a magical place, and a must-see for both native New Yorkers and tourists alike. If you’re a resident of NYC, you can choose how much you pay — which is such a great bonus of this already incredible museum. There is so much to see and experience at any turn, that it is best to visit several times if you can.

One of the most prestigious museum of art in the world. Probably one of the biggest too. Only in New York for a week, we did « all » the museum in almost 4 hours but god … we had to rush. I guess if you take your time you can stay two full days here ! Exhibitions are super nice, architecture of the museum is gorgeous. Great great experience, worth the price !

We came here in July 2022, mostly to see the Egyptian part, which we absolutely loved. It was so we'll laid out, so much stuff to look at, and very cool and high quality items on display. The museum itself it absurd how big it was. I wouldn't come here with the goal to see everything. Look at specific exhibits that they have on and go see them. We looked at 3 different ones over the course of 3 hours or so, but most of the time spent at the Egyptian section. The museum architecture is unreal, the washrooms are clean and the staff we dealt with were very nice. To me, the MET is a must do while in NYC. Highly recommend. 5/5. Follow me for more reviews, photos and great tips.

The largest art museum in America, over 150 years old. It’s forever changing, grand maze of art collections covering 5000 years of art from all around the world. One price for all exhibits. Every exhibit shows the dedication of their curators. Getting lost? Every turn there’s something amazing waiting for you. It’s more crowded than the days prior to the pandemic. For the Van Gogh’s Cypresses ( first floor) and the A line of Beauty ( second floor) get your n line virtually, while waiting, you can enjoy the art pieces nearby. The latter will end 7/16.

The shop is also nice. Toilets are well hidden though. Overall this museum is great, it’s currently No. 1 best museum I ever visited!

One of the city’s best attractions. You’ll definitely want to spend at least a full say to properly savor the art displayed throughout the pavilions. The museum has such an incredible collection of art pieces starting from the Egypt galleries throughout the medieval times and even modern times. If you’re interested in coming in for the weekend, would recommend Sunday as street parking in the area is free. But it does get crowded on summer weekends

I recently visited The Metropolitan Museum of Art and it's definitely the largest museum I have ever seen. The sheer size of the museum (2 million square feet!) can be overwhelming, so I definitely recommend doing your research before you go and knowing what you want to see. You will need multiple visits to appreciate everything the museum has to offer. I enjoyed the arms and armor section, but unfortunately didn't get a chance to explore the rest of the museum.

I haven’t been here in a very long time. I didn’t know what to expect, but now that I’ve explored countless other museums at this point, I can say in the USA, The Met offers the most. There are countless wings, exhibits, and perfectly curated pieces of history all over. The price is reasonable for the size of the collection and pristine care of things. I enjoyed every moment and it would take me many days of non stop visits to see the whole thing and learn about the pieces. It’s someplace I hope to come back to and explore more. Art and history have always told the story of humanity’s plight, beauty, and ability to overcome hardship. There is something compelling to see people untied to see this beautiful art. Together we can reflect on ancient and newly historic reminders of what we have overcome as a species, what we’ve always struggled with, and where we need to continue to fight for what matters.

I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The museum's location is easily accessible and walking through Central Park to get there is fun too. The outside of the museum is impressive, giving a taste of what’s inside. The art collection is massive, covering different time periods and cultures. I was blown away by the variety of everything on display. Figuring out where to go was stress-free. They had maps and signs that made it simple to plan my visit. What made it even better was the helpful staff. They were knowledgeable and friendly, making us feel welcome. Finding practical things like bathrooms and cafes was easy, too, making the whole trip more comfortable. All in all, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a must-visit, with something for everyone. I highly recommend!

The Met itself is an extraordinary building, both outside and in - architecturally. It is gigantic and you may need more than one visit to take in the vast range of exhibits on show. That being said, a lot of the items on display seem to be crammed in without any value or context, a collection of redundant objects found in more than one room. And although parts of this museum collate pieces from around the world (which of course is great for entry education), it feels as if they have simply obtained anything pertaining to the area in hand, and bunched them together to quickly to showcase Egypt, Greece, etc. I feel it lacks a bit of cohesion. It’s missing engagement seen through other museums I’ve visited.

National Museum is the perfect exposition of the history of Nigeria and its diverse cultural heritage. The museum was constructed in 1957. It showcases the works of art dating back to the era before Nigeria got independence. The museum narrates the story of the journey of Nigeria through the years. The Nigerian National Museum displays historical monuments and contemporary arts such as Nok Terracottas, brasses from Benin City, etc. One of the significant historical monuments you will find at the museum is the bullet-riddled car in which Nigeria’s former Head of State, Late General Murtala Mohammed was assassinated in 1976. The Nigeria National Museum is located at Awolowo Road, opposite Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos Island

Considering covid is still going on, I appreciated that it wasn't over crowded (which was a big concern). The exhibit (about time) was beautiful and wasn't what I expected but great because you did see the differences in time for fashion. The rest of the museum was very empty. At some points I felt like u was walking around in there alone which is great because there are so many things in there that you can get lost in just admiring the pieces. So I'd recommend you go. Early in the morning so you can just enjoy the museum as it is.

(Translated by Google) The Metropolitan Museum of Art in English is a museum of art, located in New York City. It is considered one of the most famous and largest museums in the world. It contains relics from all civilizations and is many times greater than the Louvre in terms of magnitude. In 1866, a group of Americans met to celebrate the American National Day, the fourth of July, in the "Bois de Boulogne" restaurant in Paris. Among the group was Jean G, the grandson of one of the well-known jurists in the young America at the time. He suggested to the group, saying, "Now is the time to create an institute and gallery of art in New York," and "the proposal was received enthusiastically." A year after that meeting, Jean G, who was president of the Syndicate Club in New York, led a campaign among civil society leaders, art dealers, and charity owners to create the first American museum to match those in Europe. And at the end of the 1870s, the Metropolitan Museum of Art was born, which moved in several locations until it settled in its current location on Fifth Avenue north of Manhattan, adjacent to New York's large park, "Central Park." The museum, in the style of its Gothic architecture, gradually expanded until it became one of the largest art museums in the world. Philip de Montebello, the current director of the museum in the New York Department of Knowledge, described it as "the circle of art knowledge in the world", and it is possible to see in it what reflects the cultures of many peoples Starting with Assyrian and Egyptian art, passing through Florence art, and even reflecting the culture of New Guinea-Bissau and the Chinese Tibetan plateau. [1] The museum contains nineteen museum pavilions, with specialists and permanent workers exceeding a thousand in number. And it receives nearly four million visitors annually. This museum is famous for its extensive collections on European art in France, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Italy in all its stages from the Renaissance until modern art, passing through the masterpieces of Baroque art in Europe, the Romantic School, Impressionism and modern trends of Cubism, Surrealism and Abstract. And with these holdings, collections of artistic and architectural artifacts dating back to the Middle Ages, including photographs, drawings, costumes, musical instruments and various decorative arts, and some of these artifacts were deposited in the main building and some in a separate building called the Cloisters, which is a branch of the museum located in the garden of Tryon Castle Upper Manhattan on the Hudson River is a modern, medieval architecture, opened in 1931 as a gift from John Rockefeller, Jr. Since 1960, the museum has undergone extensive renovations in its architecture. The main addition was the Lehman Pavilion (1975), then the Sakler Pavilion that accommodated the Temple of Dendera, which was transferred from Egypt in 1978 after the campaign to save antiquities from the flooding of the Lake Abdel Nasser dam. The American Pavilion, which was established in 1980, has absorbed sculpture and photography in Europe. In addition to these new facilities, a building for a huge library was built in 1980, and another building to accommodate books and art copies (1979), in addition to the Rockefeller Pavilion, which absorbed primitive arts. This library is the most rich in literature, films, slides and discs to provide researchers with a range of archeology, arts, history and civilization. This museum is distinguished by its ambitious goals in informing the American public about the treasures of world museums, by bearing the expenses of holding huge exhibitions, including the Impressionists Exhibition (1975), the Dresden Museum Treasures Exhibition (1978), the Exhibit of Masterpieces of the Antiquities of Tutankhamun (1978) and the Kremlin Masterpieces Exhibition in Moscow ( 1978) and the exhibition of the Vatican Collections (1983) and others. [2] And in New York's largest music hall, the Grace Rainey Rogers Hall, the museum holds annual musical activities, and a series of lectures by top professionals, and international bands perform. This activity is one of the activities stipulated in the museum system, in order to achieve its objectives of spreading culture and art, and strengthening the link with masterpieces of musical and cultural activity in the world. The Metropolitan Museum seeks to support the public, especially artists and art students, to view the masterpieces of the world, guided by the museum's specialists; Those who guide the public and clarify the characteristics of the activities exhibited, and expand the responsibility of the museum guides to provide the widest information and historical and artistic explanations of the works displayed. Preparing publications that help to establish this information, displaying graphic and educational films, and holding temporary exhibitions that help young people to support their artistic and historical cultures. In the museum’s basements, sections for preserving artifacts are not displayed, helping researchers and historians. The mission of the museum is not limited to internal activities, but extends outside the museum, as cooperation takes place with other museums, universities and cultural and artistic institutions to exchange experiences and exhibitions, provide technical and technical assistance, and prepare qualified "cadres" to serve other museums (Original) متحف المتروبوليتان للفنون بالإنجليزية Metropolitan Museum of Art ، هو متحف للفنون ، يوجد بمدينة نيويورك، يعتبر من أشهر و أضخم متاحف العالم، يحتوى على اثار من جميع الحضارات وهو يفوق اللوفر بمراحل من حيث الضخامة عام 1866 التقت مجموعة من الأميركيين للاحتفال في العيد الوطني الأميركي الرابع من يوليو في مطعم «بوا دي بولون» بباريس وكان من بين المجموعة جان جي حفيد واحد من القانونيين المعروفين في أمريكا الفتية آنذاك.

I went Sunday to see About Time. I registered on line for 10am went and was told at 10:30am that it was sold out!!! I don't understand how the whole day was sold out 30 minutes after opening. They need to do better during these times. I had not been anywhere since 3/2020 and decided to take a chance only to be told I couldn't see the exhibit. They offered I go to the Kiosk but you can't get NYC residents tickets through that. I left really upset and went home.

Great history about the country and well kept artifacts. Admission was $5USD and there is a donation box available at the front door. Viewing was cut short by staff members. details: The museum is classified in three tiers, where on the ground floor there is a histographical gallery containing presidential papers, private documents and memoirs of past important executives of the Liberian government and photographs and cartographical resources related to its culture. On display is the nation's first flag dating back to August 1847. There are also other items ranging from postage stamps to an editorial page of Liberia's daily newspaper, the Liberia Herald. Other items include traditional Liberian household furniture plus utensils, also there is a craft shop run by the African Arts and Crafts Inc. The second floor is the Ethnographical Gallery and on the third floor the contemporary arts gallery which illustrates Liberian artistic works many of which are product of a contract between the museum and art institutions plus art colleges throughout the country where artists are commissioned to produce for the museum purposes. The museum facilities include a portable video system, editing and archival materials, cassette recordings and slides of visual and oral arts many of which offer an insight into Liberian cultures such as dance and the use of masks in the country.

Amazing experience. One of the best museum you will see in New york. If you were to go to the main building of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, located on Fifth Avenue, you might start with the Egyptian wing, located to the north of the main entrance. Even if you have little interest in Egyptian art, it will take you to the Temple of Dendur, truly one of the main attractions at the museum. It’s an actual temple, which would have been completely submerged by the construction of the Aswan Dam, shipped to New York, and reassembled stone by stone. Ticket price starts at $ 25.

Amazing art museum! It's LARGE, I mean this place is HUGE. My biggest recommendation to a first time visitor is go on a Friday or Saturday because the hours are extended and you will have more time to view the exhibits. Also, get there when it opens. Take snacks and water. There is a cafeteria, but it's pricey. The exhibits are incredible and far ranging. Pick up an avaliable free guide book as soon as you get to the museum to help you prioritize what you want to see. Also, you'll need the guide book maps to navigate the museum, it's very easy to get lost.

The Met is one of the most iconic big ticket galleries in the new world. It’s so big in fact, you’d do best by picking an area of art or artifact and staying small. Wandering through with no plan is really putting one’s lips to the fire hose. That said, The Met is a must see in NY. All or most of the worlds’ most talented painters are represented through the ages…. And the ground floor houses the rest of human history. If it’s older than that, go to the Museum of Natural History! The copious street vendors sell great snacks and Covid protocols keep things just as real in case you thought “it” was over.

So much to see in such a short amount of time. Do your research and figure out exactly what you want to see so that you make the best use of your time. We weren’t very well prepared but we really made the most of our time there. The collections are absolutely incredible. Honestly, what’s not to love about The Met? I would come here every month if I could. It is HUGE. You could spend an entire day here and still not get to see everything. Even if you’re not into art, it’s hard not to marvel at the beauty and grandness of some of the pieces here. The modern art section is the only part of that I wouldn’t bother coming back for but everything else was wonderful.

Amazing museum! It has a little bit of everything from every culture: America, Europe, Africa and Asia. There are several floors and the museum is huge, so be sure to visit with plenty of time (or look at the maps on site or the interactive digital maps to select which areas you want to check out). There's also different time periods and different kinds of art from the different cultures shown. I found the armory section pretty cool with lots to see from different cultures. My favorite section was the famous paintings/art gallery section. They've paintings from A LOT of amazing and well known artists, such as Van Gogh. Matisse, Seurat, Hopper, Klimt, Gauguin, Monet, Manet, Munch, and so much more from a lot of different artistic movements. The store is also pretty cool, they've a lot of books, and a lot of museum themed souvenirs at an acceptable price!

So many famous masterpieces. Worth the trip! Prepare to walk around 3-4 miles INSIDE the museum, if you want to visit all the exhibits. I suggest bringing your own water bottle if possible, since snacks and drinks at all cafes are pricey (which is to be expected).

Seriously It saved so much time and hassle. Also if you are a student or have kids or family that are type of student. BRING A STUDENT ID! You will save so much on the cost of tickets!!!!!!! Also give yourself enough time to indulge in the art around you and pace yourself. We spent two hours in one section and didn't even know there were several other sections and categories of art.

I was absolutely awestruck by everything there while I was visiting New York. It is such an amazing experience and the home to such beautiful art. It is the pinnacle of art and history, with its rich array of artwork from various cultures, regions, and historical periods. I literally was in the museum all day, but there was still exhibits to be seen; however, they were closed for renovations. I personally could just live there. I will advise to purchase tickets in advance and the line through the main entrance can get pretty long.

The museum is fabulous. You walk out of a room full of world famous artworks to another with more famous pieces. The Van Gogh exhibition requires online air, which generally takes half an hour. It’s magnificent. The museum not only holds a huge repertoire of drawings, but also instruments, rapiers, muskets, statues and so much more. If you are a tourist, you must come for a see. If you are a local resident, annual membership is required for its considerably cheap and you are not gonna finish the huge museum in one go.

The MET did not disappoint. We recommend going for at least one full day to really take in all of the art work. We felt like we didn’t have enough time with the Art after going for 5 hours. The museum is thoughtfully curated and everything feels super intentional with their design choices. We had the chance to see the Van Gough exhibit that is on view while we were there and it was STUNNING. We also really enjoyed all of the beautiful glass pieces and their extensive stained glass collection that is on display throughout the entire Museum.

Absolutely loved my visit to the MET! This museum is a gem in New York City. The Byzantium exhibition was captivating, and exploring the ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome sections was like traveling back in time. The only disappointment was that the European Painting section was closed during my visit, but with such an extensive collection, there's always something new to discover. The Met Museum is amazing. You could spend two full days in here and still not see everything. There are so many different great eras in history covered, something for everyone. My best advice is to arrive as soon after opening as possible.

The Met Museum of Art is simply required, whether visitor or resident. You may be there several hours, and still need a second (or third) visit to take in all it offers. Sadly, several wings of paintings remain in storage, because of construction / restoration. You may want to call ahead, to confirm any artists of interest are still represented. But some of the limited-time exhibits are truly incredible. I had the honor of attending the Michelangelo series back in December 2017. Absolutely stunning.

A MUST see place in New York. I could probably spend a week there. The history the art It is phenomenal. It's a time travel you literally travel through time and look at history of humanity and all its contributions. Rarely have I seen a museum allow guests to get so close to the exhibits and there is a tangible feeling of real that comes from that. Being able to see the brushstrokes or wood grain on a painting or the grooves on a sculpture or mask brings so much more attachment to the work. It has a reputation as one of the finest museums in North America and it has earned it. Go see the MET, give yourself lots of time, savour the exhibits that make you feel something. You won't leave feeling as though you didn't get commensurate value for your time and money, if anything, you may not want to leave at all.

I just heard that the Metropolitan Museum of Art plans to reopen this summer,. It will be at limited capacity at first and will of course observe social distancing , faces masks, etc. However, any viewing of the Met this summer is good news. The Met is one of the great museums of the world. Its collection is unparalleled. I visited the Met earlier this year to see some of its new exhibits. Several pictures from those new exhibits, as well as some of its older works of art are show here are in the attached pictures.

It's true - I've lived in NYC for over 30 years and never once been to The Met. I know I give off an air of being cultured, but I'm a philistine at heart. Anyway, finally made my way up there on a day off. If you're a NYC resident, you get in for free (or a suggested donation). You have to do it at the counter though, so you have to go through the awkward rigmarole if them asking how much you want to donate while not looking cheap. I just said $10 to get out of that situation. Anyway, the museum is gigantic, so you'll get your money's worth (okay, maybe not $25 worth). Lots of European paintings (at least one Van Gogh, one Picasso, and a bunch of others). Whoever decided to put the Monet's next to the Manet's sure has a sense of humor. Lots of other stuff to see too - the Asian wing is thoughtfully curated with Japanese, Chinese, and even a Korean section. There was a small 1800s photograph display when I went as well. A lot of Egyptian stuff too, as to be expected. A surprising amount of stained glass. And if you're into American art, there's a ton of that as well

It's a lovely place to visit with a lot of artefacts and memories from history which signifies Nigerian roots and culture and heritage. The museum is however very dusty, it's not a nice place to visit if you are allergic to dust . The place needs more maintenance and the tour guards all need to be on ground. I had no tour guard to direct me when I visited.

The MET is the largest museum in the nation and is a place in New York that you can't just visit once. There's always new exhibits here throughout the year, that are quite engaging I must say. I feel this is the one museum in the country that is sure to have something of interest for everyone, even if you're not someone into art or history. With the sheer number of exhibitions they have there's bound to be something of interest for you at some point here! That's what makes this museum so impressive! Many people who live in and around the city will come by here just to relax, read a book, work on their laptop, so forth as it's a nice place to take a break. Being along Central Park and on Fifth Avenue you're surrounded by a lot of other amazing spots as well. If you visit here, be prepared to do a lot of walking! This place is very massive! If you're someone who really likes to take in the art it may take you a couple of visits to see everything housed here.

I’ve visited some of the best muesums and art galleries in the world but this museum is simply astonishing. If we could put one building into storage to show the creative genius of humankind, it would be this building. It is vast. And because of this it’s best that you plan to go and see part of the exhibitions as it’s too much to see on a single visit. Get there early in the morning to avoid the worst of the queues and break for coffee etc outside the busiest times as the queues can be very long. We spent over 4 hours there are hardly scratched the surface. The curatorship is just outstanding, with perfect choices of art in rooms and paintings are given enough space to really shine.

  • 4/5 Adriel '. 3 years ago on Google
You could spend an entire day here and still not get to every part of the museum, however they make it very difficult to get free admission as you have to wait in a very long line.

  • 5/5 Christina F. 3 years ago on Google
Been coming here about every 2 months for the past decade, but stopped during the pandemic. When it reopened, I went on a weekday to find it pleasantly attended but not crowded, and their various safety protocols were appreciated! The 150 Anniversary exhibit is also a well-timed overview of the museums history, acknowledging institutional wrongs and a commitment to do better. Thank you Met!!

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a world-class museum, and it’s enormous. In addition to the building most people think of, it also includes The Cloisters, located at the northern edge of Manhattan, which contains works of medieval and renaissance art, and the newly opened Met Breuer.

Shiva, Uma, and Their Son Skanda (Somaskandamurti) early 11th century Chola India (Tamil Nadu) Somaskandamurti is one of the most popular religious images in South India. The four-armed Shiva holds a battle-ax and a deer in his upper hands and a citron in his lower left hand. His lower right hand is raised in abhayamudra (the gesture that allays fear). His consort, Parvati, clasps a water lily in her right hand. Between them stands Skanda, their infant son, bejeweled and with a lotus in his right hand. Four rings at the lower corners of the pedestal allowed the sculpture to be secured to a platform in order to be carried in processions.

The museum itself is 5 stars. I’m giving 3 stars because of how bad it is to be a member. - As a member you can reserve a slot ahead of time to enter the museum but you cannot do so for special exhibits. You’d have to go and hope there will be special exhibits ticket on the day of. And given the limited number of tix released there is a good chance you will not get one. - Instead, if you are not a member, as you buy you museum ticket online you are given the option to get a free reserved special exhibit ticket ahead of time. Long story short, amazing museum but not great for members who are at a disadvantage vs non-members.

While the Met is one of the most impressive museums in the world, they have a terrible website that will frustrate you to no end. We made an online reservation for today at 1PM for the "About Time" Fashion Exhibit. When we showed up at 12:30PM, we were told that all exhibit tickets were sold out for the today and that the reservation we made was merely a formality. I recommend reading their website VERY CLOSELY as it is VERY UNCLEAR about how to make reservations. This was the worst experience I have ever had at this museum.

The funny thing with museum is that social distance does not bother that much You watch the art object you like. Continue on your path. It s true that some small rooms are close to avoid contagion I guess but art is art. Despite the black death and other outbreaks, the inalterable nature of inspiration art. beauty allows human to overcome the toughest moments and to tell our story. Metropolitan museum with their collections is a reminder that art is a corollary of life. And life always find a way.

Covid-19 restrictions are enforced well with hand sanitizer all over the place (but you shouldn't be touching anything regardless). Absolutely amazing museum!! My husband and I have been multiple times and are always anxious to get back again. Admissions is pay what you wish for NY residents, so some days we spend an hour & other days we spend 3-4+ hours. It would take days to thoroughly cover every inch of this place. There is something for everyone to enjoy!

Pretty fun, like some statues, spooky vibes, ghosts definitely live in this museum, i talked to one named ned , he was a cleptomaniac in a former life and kept telling me to try and steal them there faberge eggs , i politely declined , and instead went to check out the mummies and also some other sculptures. Did you know the english used to chain bears to posts and let dogs attack them as a pastime? Crazy, i didn't know that , let's hope many of them later on were eaten by tigers while colonizing india .

My favorite museum in NYC. I was fortunate enough to live in walking distance of this place and always loved coming here. The place is huge and there’s so much to look at. Plan on having a lot of time set aside if you any the full experience. If you’re trying to decided what museum to go to I’d recommend this one. Admission is donation based which is great if you cannot afford a lot. My favorite part are the reconstructed rooms - it makes you feel like you’re waking around in a castle. 🏰

It's free guys, what more can you ask for! Only in America. The people in this country are so blessed that one does not have to be rich to experience art and culture. Thanks to the wealthy people who own this joint who have chosen to share their blessings with the public. My favorite was the infinity mirror installation by Yayoi Kusama. Food for the mind yo.

Architecture is beautiful in the museum and all the installments are set up beautifully. I walked around for three hours and even though some installments were closed, we still didn't see everything. Most of the stores are closed except for the one at the final exit bit the history and installment set ups were really beautiful

Staff shouldn't sell tickets to tourists when the closing time is near because you can't visit all the rooms if you don't have enough time. Tourist aren't aware of the schedules so staff members must inform Tourist before selling tickets.

Metropolitan Museum of Art is a world-class museum, and it’s enormous. In addition to the building most people think of, it also includes The Cloisters, located at the northern edge of Manhattan, which contains works of medieval and renaissance art, and the newly opened Met Breuer. We love this museum!

Took my mom there first time she has never been to a large museum like this, she was absolutely ecstatic and overwhelmed in a good way, I myself haven't been there for a while and it's great to be back. It's not as crowded as they try to keep the number of the visitors down due to covid. we reserved tickets ahead of time on the web and it was an easy process to get them and to getting. As New York residents pay as much as you wish. If I were to be picky and suggest an improvement definitely a room or space to tend to baby needs. I have an infant who I had to take with me and I was having a hard time finding where to feed her. I ended up finding a bench that was tucked in somewhere in the high traffic area and breastfeeding my baby there under watchful eyes of CCTV, hope they enjoyed the show. Definitely not convenient and for a museum of that scale they should have a family room.

  • 5/5 Byron V. 3 years ago on Google
There are no words for this museum. Truly one of the most awe inspiring places I've ever walked through. During our most recent trip, we spent three hours there and maybe made it through a quarter of the exhibits. I missed the Francisco Goya exhibit as it had recently opened and I really wanted my girlfriend to see the Egypt wing. We could have gone in but I don't think we would have had all the time to immerse ourselves and experience his works as the museum was closing within an hour. This is always a must when I visit NYC and should be for anyone with a modicum of culture.

What a beautiful place to wander for hours! It was a great way to pretend i was traveling around the world and through time despite the pandemic. Everyone was good about wearing a mask and while it was certainly bustling on a winter Saturday, for the most part it was easy to maintain a good social distance from other myseum-goers (you have to sign up for an entry time only to help space out entries). I will be back soon!

To be frank...I always zoomed through the museum like I was running a marathon but today! Yes today! I actually took my time and read the little cards next to or underneath the works of art and wow!!! What a difference it made!!! At 40 years old I finally know how to fully appreciate this national treasure full of treasures that is the Metropolitan museum of art!!!lol! Better late than never I guess! And I don't know if the Dutch artworks are always there but today I spent a good deal of time there (ground floor) because the bathrooms are close by because my bladder is the size of a pea.lol. in the Lehman section. Will definitely go back to check out the rest of the museum piecemeal because it's too huge to see it all in one day! I highly recommend it! You gotta go there if you come to NYC or if you live here. I've been living here for years and just today realized it's true beauty. Wow!

The museum has opened! Because of the pandemic impact, the MET limits the visitors at given time, which is a way better experience than previous crowded ones. Today I did not visit the exhibition though. I went directly to the MET store to buy a book. When entering the museum, there was a staff to check forehead temperature then let me in. There was no security check point. The once crowded lobby now there were less than thirty people insider. I believe most of them have already booked online for a reserved time slot which was required. Normally I visit the museum 3, 4 times a year. 2020 was a tough year. But in 2021 I will definitely come back more. Never get tired visiting MET. Oh, don’t miss MET store which has so many choices, from stationaries to jewelry to clothes. Especially I love their books. All are beautiful and professionally made.

As an artist from Kentucky I was taught a lot about the Met. Though no class could've prepared me for how wonderful it was. There was pieces in the met I would never have imagined being a massive as they were and even some so delicate and small with just as much detail as some of the more larger one. I would 100% recommend the met for any artist or art student to go a gather inspiration from. If you're a local and haven't been yall really need to go to experience the art work of the past.

Great place to visit if your from out of town or live in the area. Spent all day at the museum and i only covered the first floor. Also recommended to history buffs, photographers or artist. Will be returning in the near future.

How can I describe a museum that can take 100 visits to see everything once? The diversity of art going back 1,000s of years from all corners of the world give me something different when I need it. I used to meet seniors at the cafeteria. The location is the point where I can cross Central Park and head to the West Side. The Roof Garden is a very special New York City experience. For popular temporary exhibits you can deal with guests with no experience with art, museums, tight spaces snd even with experienced older visitors you might wish to avoid the mad rush the following times. The museum store has wonderful calendars, posters and gifts under $10. The book collection is just beyond incredible.

Flagship attraction in NYC. A must stop for all tourists and New Yorkers. World renowned exhibits and collections. Has multiple special exhibits throughout the year. Would recommend getting a membership if you are within driving distance of NYC. The membership supports the museum and will pay for itself if you visit a few times. Cannot bring food into the museum. Multiple food options outside if you don’t want to pay museum food prices.

BE SURE TO GET YOUR TIMED ENTRY ONLINE EVEN IF YOU HAVE A TICKET WITH CITY PASS. We spent most of our time visiting the European artists and the fashion exhibit. The Met is fabulous, as always. The staff are very helpful and patient with confused out of towners like us. We ate lunch in the cafeteria and they had gluten free options.

  • 5/5 Natalie K. 2 years ago on Google
Can't possibly capture the MET in one visit. Worth getting the membership for sure! With base membership for two people, 4 people get in for $110 on the first visit. Almost exact same price as 4 one time tickets. And if the opportunity arrises, you'll want to go back.

This place is a must see for New Yorkers and visitors of New York . A total gem . Probably the must visited museum in the US. 2 floors completely full of many exhibitions that represent various cultures, religions , time eras and great work of art like Monet and Van Gough , many furniture and sculptures. The Egyptian section with their mummies as well as the Islamic history and art were spectacular. Must show ID and vaccine record . New Yorkers can enter with a dollar or a contribution and non-New Yorkers about $29 , you need more than one day . I wish I can add 100 more pictures

Beautiful and well worth the visit. We went at 2pm and purchased our tickets ahead of time. Whole process was super simple and we had a great time looking around! Only wished we had more time to spend, you can spend a whole day in just one floor looking at everything. Can't wait to go back and see more next trip!

An art enthusiast's heaven and a place where the average person would be awestruck. Easily a three hour experience if you decide to visit all the exhibits and look at each painting / sculpture/art objects. If you are enthusiastic and really want to see most exhibits, I would recommend allotting at least four to five hours for a trip here. Tickets for most New York residents are pay what you wish while for most non New York residents it is 25 dollars. If you are in New York you should definitely try to visit the Met.

This is my favorite museum since I was a kid. My husband wanted to take an opportunity to walk through and explore. We absolutely love it here. We also love Watson Adventures scavenger hunts at the MET prior to COVID. You won't be disappointed.

Wish I can give this museum 20 stars! Loved every single exhibition. You will wait in line whether you buy your tickets online or at the museum (at least that’s how it was when I went). Make sure you accommodate at least 3-4 hours cause this place is HUGE and you will not get bored. Highly recommend if you could also visit one of their special exhibitions.. it just adds so much to your experience.

I went in when they opened at 10am and left when they closed at 5pm, still didn't see everything. I need to spend a week here. It's the most diverse collection of art I've ever encountered and I was in awe throughout the entire museum. The exhibits, displays, presentation, exhibit descriptions and room layouts are thoughtful and well done. I'll be coming back every time I visit NYC.

One of the most amazing museums that I have visited. It has a big collection of antiques of different times, countries, and styles, as paintings, armors, weapons, statues, buildings, and others. And you can see also different collections of different places as Egypt, Greece, Italy, France, United States, Germany, Japan, China and others. Please come and take your time of all a day to see and get amazed of how humanity has been evolving in arts and construction, and all kind of beautiful things that we can creat. If you are interested there are free tours at some specific hours and it is totally friendly for the handicapped people. For the elders is cheaper, and the prices change for visitors and it is free for locals (locals give a contribution).

  • 5/5 Ava M. 2 years ago on Google
Read..!!.its a contribution so you decide what to give..they give you an ideal as what to pay..Asian art area was hard to locate. Hidden section. The furniture period made me realize I had an 18th century chair at home. Egyptian and Greek art great to sketch. Don't buy food inside go outside to street vendors cheaper.

Had a great time here. Definitely the biggest museum I've ever seen! Don't short yourself on time here and plan to spend a few hours looking at the enormous collection and various exhibits

  • 5/5 Amelia B. 2 years ago on Google
One of the best museums I've ever visited. There is more than enough to keep you busy for an entire day (or more). To me, the best part was the ancient Egypt exhibit. I wish I'd spent more time there rather than trying to see everything else too. The café has decent food, but it's obviously overpriced.

  • 5/5 Helen 2 years ago on Google
Must see when in NY. Book tickets and reservations online. $25 per ticket. If you’re short on time you might be able to get through the entire museum in 3-4 hours. Otherwise, you can totally spend the whole day there! Reserved entry entrance is on the side. You can also get a ticket in the front door but there might be a wait. Unfortunately, Their iconic MET tote bag are always sold out like hot cakes. The next restock is in December. Highlights include the Egyptian exhibit, the arms and armory exhibit, upstairs roof garden, and the Van Gogh and Monet collection.

  • 5/5 Karina K. 2 years ago on Google
Definitely recommend buying tickets online. Even if you just arrived on the spot, you can still easily buy the tickets online and avoid the queues. The museum is very vast and grand. Probably would recommend focusing on the area that you find the most interesting and start there not to get overwhelmed. There was one cafe open with great views of sculptures but not so great food. Ah, and don’t forget the awesome terrace. Also note that some exhibitions (mostly new ones) have separate queues inside.

  • 5/5 Carolina C. 2 years ago on Google
The MET never gets old and has an outstanding permanent collection and always something new to explore! Make sure to visit the rooftop exhibit during warmer months. You’ll get the most breathtaking views of the city and the park ever!

  • 5/5 Jay C. 2 years ago on Google
Great place to visit, if you are an art history buff, this place will keep you busy for days. It’s so large that you need at least a few days to finish the whole museum. Ticketing is fast and easy, if you live in New York you pay whatever amount you like, which is great !!

  • 5/5 Cyrus H. 2 years ago on Google
The staff were helpful in pointing us where to go when we had particular gasket numbers or artists in mind we wanted to see. The Egyptian exhibit, Islamic, Assyrian, a few dutch pieces in the Lehman collection, and the Van Gogh pieces were our favorites. If you've been to the louvre/other prestigious European museums you might not be impressed by the European sculptures at the Met. We're not art experts, however, so I don't want to give that impression. The cafe has decent food and beverages. Rooftop garden was closed for the season 😭.

  • 5/5 Da-Wang W. 2 years ago on Google
MET is definitely one of the “must-see” places in NYC! Visitors can plan ahead to visit during Friday and Saturday to enjoy extended hours (10am to 9pm). Several highlights in my visit: Egyptian Art, Assyrian Royal Court, Art of the Arab Lands/Turkey/Iran, and Arts of Africa/Oceania/Americas. Since the museum is super large, visitors better prioritize certain areas that they are interested in and plan the trip accordingly.

  • 5/5 Willie R. 2 years ago on Google
Get your tickets online! I had the city pass so it included a ticket here and it was easy getting in around 11. The ticket gets you inside the entire museum. Much to see and read about. Enjoyed my time! Definitely set aside around 2 hours to see most to all of it. The line was super long after we got out around 1.

  • 5/5 Muhammad S. 2 years ago on Google
Probably one of the best museums in the world. You have to reserve a spot online and pay once you are inside or you can buy ticket beforehand. There can be a long que to get in might take 20 minutes to one hour to get inside depending on the time and day. Museum is absolutely colossal divides into multiple sections including Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Indian, Persian, Islamic, European history and many more. Would recommend to plan separate days for different sections unless you are in NYC only for few days.

  • 5/5 Andreq 2 years ago on Google
There is so much stuff to look at. The Greek statues were so fascinating, and all the other items from that time period. Seeing how ancient civilizations functioned was so cool. My favorite part was the instrument exhibit. As a musician, seeing all the instruments and how they evolved into the modern ones that people use today was incredible. Seeing history first hand. The oldest surviving piano was incredible to look at, and being able to control the volume of how you play keys was what made it so different from the harpsichord. The African drums were also really neat, how they decorated them with things from their culture.

  • 5/5 John a. 2 years ago on Google
One of the great museums of the world, where the building, and design of the galleries is as much of a treasure as the collection itself. The rich collection continues to impress and improve as the museum reassesses it's own holdings and presents new viewpoints. Recent examples of this are the contemporary and modern art collection which is now 7 galleries covering 1900-1930. If you are not a huge fan of paintings, the museum has large collections of everything from Greek / Roman statues to Egyptian mummies, to Buddhist and ancient art from Asia to see. Plan a day. Wear comfortable shoes. Make a reservation somewhere relaxing for dinner afterwards. It's a terrific way to spend a day in the city.

INCREDIBLE!!! I intend to go back many times... over and over. The sheer amount of beauty made by us human beings is mind blowing! I spent a great amount of time in the Egyptian and The Bodhisattva wings (my phone battery was gone by the time i got to the last one). I certainly will be back for the other wings of the Museum. Thank you!!! E.

All the great masters of art, the backdrop of central park, and the wonders of history all around this building makes the artwork come alive. Start in the Egyptian wing then don't forget to check out the Renoir room and all the Degas sculptures and sketches.... Simply breathtaking

I don’t have words to explain how amazing is this place. I came here I think 10 times the 4 years I am living here. You just must go… If you live in NY or NJ or Connecticut you pay what you want at the entrance if not the regular price. There is food inside is clean and everything bit is not a good food. Better the Halal food outside is the perfect choice. Get a Map inside is bigger than it looks. There are maps for kids, illustrated and very funny. In general is a life experience, The Met is one of the best things in NYC ❤️

Big museum and way to much for 1 day. They have pretty much everything. From Dutch Masters to Roman statues and to Asian culture dating back to 750 A.C. Really impressive building. In each room you feel the history coming to life because of the ambience and surrounding styling they have done to the different exhibits.

Packed with masked and vaccinated people this holiday season. Very helpful staff. Timeless treasures on view. Makes me think about how museums have acquired so much ancient art and wouldn’t that art belong in the country that it was taken from?

  • 5/5 Lucy D. 2 years ago on Google
This museum is huge! We spent hours there and certainly didn't see everything! Can't wait to go back and explore the rest! Walking through the British section really did feel like walking through a posh country estate back home. And the Egyptian section was incredible. My personal favourite part was the native American art. It was my first time seeing any native American art. It's truly beautiful. My overall favourite experience though was the kind member of staff who tracked down William the hippo for us! My partner remembered seeing him as a child and wanted to introduce me to their favourite hippo.

You could easily spend multiple days here if you wanted to see everything. The building itself is amazing! We looked at some of the Greek art while we were trying to get a game plan. We decided to focus on the Disney and the Egyptian exhibits and were there for about 3 hours. I'm glad we picked a couple of things to focus on otherwise it would have been very overwhelming & we may have been over it by the time we got to the things we actually wanted to see had we not gone there first.

  • 5/5 Alex C. 2 years ago on Google
First time visitor. So glad we made the trip. We were there about 2 hrs, could have used another 2 hrs at least. Staff is great. FWIW admission is $25 for adults unless you are a NY resident then you name your price, suggested at $25. It is well worth it. Food and beverage locations MET are not open as of last week so plan around it.

What's not to love about the Met? You could easily spend several days here and not even begin to scratch the surface of all of the incredible things there are to see and experience. It is truly one of the most exceptional museums I have ever been to, and it is simply a must on anyone's list of things to do regardless of whether or not you're a local or you're visiting NYC from somewhere else. One of my favorite things about it is it's location, and spending the day exploring the park and visiting the museum is one of the easiest ways to plan a memorable and wonderful day out.

How in the world can I summarize this place in a few words? Huge, daunting, powerful, culturally rich, and intoxicating are some that come to mind. I'll keep the rest short and leave it to you to discover it yourself but be sure to wear comfortable shoes and plan MANY hours of your day around seeing just some of the treasures on display.

The Met is my favourite museum in New York City!!! There you can find a wide range of beautiful art pieces (very famous paintings, sculptures and so on). My favourites are the waterlilies painting they have by Monet, and also a very special Pollock. The building is also very nice. It is one of the world's biggest museums, with over two million art works. A very nice experience I highly recommend!!

Great museum where you can stay more than a day looking around. Some advices I wish I would have know: - bring a lot of water. You can’t bring outside food or drinks but drink water is allowed. As of June 2022 all the water fountains are not available to use, and the only way to get water is to buy. See next point on this. - There are two locations to eat. One in American wings always have long lines. A less crowded one is in the basement at the back called Eatery. Unfortunately Eatery closes at 4 pm. (There’s drink at the rooftop too but it’s also usually a long line) - Buying tickets online prior can save you time from being in a ticket line - Going with the tour can enhance the experience especially for art newbie like me :) - It’s so east to get lost. Ask the staff often. They can be found frequently which is indeed needed.

A must see if visiting New York. We spend half a day, but could have easily spend a full day and possibly another day. Museum opens at 10AM and we got there at 10.30AM. There was no line up to get in, but when we left at 3.30PM there was a long line up to get in. Buy your pass at kiosk after you’re inside to avoid the ticket line. If you get a chance, go to the top level in the South West corner of the building and there are some amazing views of Central Park. Will definitely visit again.

ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT !!!!! SO MUCH TO SEE,, CAN NOT SEE ALL OF IT IN ONE DAY!!! Very well laid out, maps available in many languages, attendants everywhere to help you, explain things, keep people from touching what they shouldn't. Will definitely return!! Was there for 6 hours, only got to see a quarter of the first floor. You can know nothing about art (such as myself) and still enjoy yourself and be able to appreciate the history and art of it all, very good variety of everything.

I love the Met. Now, I haven't been to them all, but if I had, it wouldn't surprise me to find that it's the best art museum in the United States. Their collections of European naturalist paintings and sculptures is positively unmatched. The only downside is that the collections are so incredibly vast, that it's basically impossible to explore the entire museum in just one day. Multiple days should be allotted to fully enjoy the entirety of the collections. And don't forget to check out Cleopatra's Needle, an Egyptian obelisk, displayed in the park directly behind the museum. BONUS: there is a free public restroom, open until dusk, at the Egyptian Playground to the north side of the museum. Have fun!!!

Visited during the annual Museum Mile event, which was scheduled from 6-9 pm on June 13th. I arrived around 5:40 pm and the museum was already letting people in. Some of the rooms/exhibits were off limits (it WAS free, after all) but there were still many works of art to see, including the Roof Garden. The store has a plethora of wonderful items for sale. I haven't been here in years and was glad I selected it to visit for the Museum Mile event. All in all, the Met is a fantastic museum to visit. Highly recommend!

I had an amazing time at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It's a massive museum, so arriving early is key. Using the automated kiosk for tickets was convenient. The audio guides were informative and enhanced my experience. The exhibits were thoughtfully curated, and the fashion exhibit was absolutely stunning. The MET exceeded my expectations, offering a unique and enriching experience. I highly recommend visiting this incredible museum.

I don't know if I can rate the Met... to me the Met has the most varied and beautiful collection in the world. I've been coming back for years now. It's just so big and so varied and like each space has its own story. Wish I had money and could come to the met gala. So if you are reading this and have money and want to give me a gift, that would be it! I can just imagine how they must decorate it for that. The Egyptian Art is just magnificent. I used to come here with my mom and we would meet here and sit in the cafeteria and even there it was just awe inspiring. I've been to many museums around the world the louvre been one of then, but to me, nothing compares to the Met...

Visited during the Museum Mile Festival,2023 , had an enormous queue outside. Inside lots of galleries were closed only floor 1 was open for public view. Overall very nice collection, would suggest taking out much time to visit this , definitely not something that can be quickly scanned as it has lot of interesting art and sculptures.

Another day in our happy place visiting Vincent Van Gogh. As you probably know this is a huge museum there is no way to see everything in one trip or 3 or 4 for that matter. If not a NY resident who can pay what you wish. Advise you go for annual membership at $110 with complimentary guest it pays for itself in 2 visits

  • 5/5 Said D. 8 months ago on Google
This place is amazing. If you like to read everything, see everything, and take it all in, then do not attempt to see this museum in 2 hours. You need plenty of time. They have a couple spots to eat snacks and drink juices and sodas but be ready for a long day.

Ever changing museum. More than 1 visit needed to really appreciate all they have to show. Permanent exhibits change as well as special showings happen. Advise using their site to see what is going on before going. I'm a NYC resident who has gone many times and will continue to go.

Such a grand museum with so many things to see - you should consider spending an entire day here or prioritize the exhibitions you'd like to see because it is A LOT. The tickets are free if you are from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. The MET has such a huge and impressive reputation, and I feel like it delivers. I know their Egyptian exhibition is one of the most comprehensive and oldest but it makes me sad to think that all these artifacts were taken from their original homes in Egypt. There was a special exhibit comparing Egyptian and African artifacts which was very interesting to see the juxtaposition between the two. The elevator to the rooftop is relatively secluded and hard to find but the view is stunning as you can see a beautiful NY skyline from their rooftop.

Beautiful museum that you can spend several days in if you like. I mostly went for the Karl Lagerfelt exhibition but stayed to look at the modern art and the gorgeous rooftop where they also have a bar. They also have a nice shop where you can buy souvenirs. The queue looked really long when I arrived but was inside in about 15 minutes.

In my opinion, the MET is one of the best museums not only in NYC but in the entire country. You can easily spend your whole day inside. Those who live in the tri-state area can visit the museum for free. I just presented my electricity bill and was able to enter with a friend of mine. Unfortunately, I could not go to the rooftop because there was a huge line. If you have a restricted time, I highly recommend visiting Arms and Armor, which is pretty dope :)

TL;DR Simply the best museum I've ever been to. It features things for all tastes, some of the most famous pieces in the world, and yet never feels crowded! Whether you are interested in sculpture, paintings, or historical artifacts - the Met is an unmissable place while visiting NYC. With a constant circuit of visiting exhibits, even if you have come before it is worth revisiting. It's sprawling size makes the overall experience very calm (especially in comparison to my recent trip to the Louvre). I had a ticket for its opening time and found myself alone in the Claude Monet gallery for 10-15 minutes! RECOMMENDATION: Due to its popularity, purchase your ticket ahead of time ESPECIALLY on the weekend. Also, due to its size - make a little map ahead of time of the pieces you're wanting to see. Otherwise, it will be easy to miss things.

This is the best museum in the city. We could spend all day here. It’s an easy 5 hours. It’s incredible to be surrounded but such beautiful art and history from all over the world. Being surrounded by Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Monet, Manet and so many more is simply magical. Stepping into the statues and monuments from Egypt and Rome is breathtaking. To note as well, the security line is efficient and the restaurant serves actual food. Best experience in the city!

This is an amazing museum to visit. The place has so many halls and attractions. I was thrilled to see a huge collection of paintings, glasswork, cutlery sets, furniture and many more areas in the museum which showcases the vast culture of various parts of the world. The place where they have recreated the Egyptian Culture is totally amazing. It almost brings you back to the era of Egyptian civilization. This is a must go place for everyone whether you are in college, school or a working professional.

Beautiful museum. NY residents can enter for free with an option to give a donation. They have an extensive collection and they are always having special exhibits when certain things are on rotation for viewing. I love the Egyptian room, the Chinese tea garden, the European armory, the Japanese swords. You can take great photos in the museums and it’s really beautiful. Outside the museum people are sitting on the steps and there’s someone playing an instrument. There’s also a museum shop full of things to buy.

Bring comfortable shoes and possibly a backup battery for your phone and ear buds (tip: use wireless and share one with a partner). Some displays have a 4-digit code to listen to the information that is written on the placard while you stand back and appreciate the piece from a viewing distance. I recommend ‘breezing’ through the different exhibits and slowing down to learn more about the pieces that really stick out and capture your eye. To say there is a lot to see is a gross understatement. My feet were begging for mercy, but I kept discovering more I needed to see.

Must see in New York. Art, jewelry, and historical artifacts from all over the world. The ancient Egypt exhibit is amazing. This is a huge museum. You can easily spend all day here and not get to see everything. We went early when it opened and walked right in. When we walked out, there was a line wrapped around the block.

We saw more than half of the first floor in just under 3hrs. It was an impromptu visit because it was raining, and they closed at 5 on a Monday which is why we didn’t see more. The new Native American exhibit was great, and I also really enjoyed the Egyptian and Arms & Armor exhibits.

Great place if you love art and history. The exhibitions are always nice. I've been coming here since High School. I love to see how the program has diversified over the years. I most recently attended their annual block party that was wonderful. They had something for everyone. As a NYC resident the museum entrance is donation based. I wish there was a way for us to get our tickets online instead of having to stand in line each time. The line does move fast however.

If you can split your visit in two days it would be good! I can be draining and overwhelming to finish the whole museum. I recommend you do first floor first then second day second floor. Over all enjoy the museum! It’s for all of us to see

One of the largest museums I've seen. Some lovely art, definitely much more than you can explore in one day. So many wonderful artists and other wonderful sculptures, rich history, one of my favorites is Monet, also some nice stained glass.

Massive. Amazing Museum that lives up to its legacy. Too much to take in during one visit. Parking: convenient to park at Museum parking but it will cost you! $$$55 for less than 6 hours Food: Not Celiac friendly. Few gluten free items and most were packaged desserts only.

The MET Museum not only lives up to its stellar reputation but exceeds expectations with its countless captivating sights and diverse exhibitions. It's the type of place where you could easily immerse yourself for days on end. A truly indispensable experience.

What a magnificent place. I’ve always wanted to visited THE MET and finally I’ve done it. Totally beyond my expectations. Too bad I only got 3 hours since I arrived late after my trip from Liberty Island. I only saw half of the museum. What a shame. God a good deal for some present and it makes up for missing half of the museum. Everyone should visit this place and prepare to spend the whole day.

As an NYC student, visiting here is a good pass time. It depends on your as to how much will you pay to enter but make sure you get a map before checking in as this museum is big. Personally, I don't think it's ideal to finish the whole thing in one visit. Overall, great collections!!

They said you can get in free by 4:30. The museum is so big that it would take more than hour to explore! It was a great experience. If you're an NYC resident, you can get in by any donation amount (even just for a dollar for 2 people). Would love to visit again.
