Newport Artillery is a great way to spend a day. There is something for everyone at the museum! Authentic uniforms, one of a kind weapons and memorabilia, original art work and even Claiborne Pell's sweater. A very knowledgeable staff, they give a great guided tour - or just walk around and see one of the places that makes Newport unique! Hard working volunteers open the doors and roll out a genuine Paul Revere Cannon, gladly donated to keep the doors open! Thank you!

Arrived just after 10AM in late April on a Sunday. Bldg was all locked up. Called and the answering service told me they don't open until Memorial Day (close after Columbus Day.) Wanted to share so no one else made a trip only to be disappointed. Also, there is only street parking, prepare to walk or drop off your passengers then walk. Hopefully in the future the google reviews/overview will update the business hours.

An amazing museum with outstanding, historical, "one-of-a-kind" arms exhibits and uniforms! We had a personal tour by Col. Rob Beebe who provided fascinating background knowledge of the displays and their history -- his passion and enthusiasm for the Artillery Company is awesome - worth the trip just to hear his narratives! KEEP UP THIS INSTITUTION!

What a gem! Don't leave Newport without visiting the Artillery Co. This is an amazing opportunity to view a wonderful collection of military uniforms, cannons and much more. Our guide was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot . Great experience for the history buffs.

A trip to Newport would not be complete and should include a visit to the oldest artillery company in the United States! Where they have and maintain the Cannons that Paul Revere made in working order last used 4th of July for a 21 cannon salute in Eisenhower Park Washington Sq. Newport.. The history of America's malitia has been preserved in this stone artillery building..Here you will find a wonderful historical collection of Americans militia and that of other countries..

Great find. Cool historic uniforms. CANNONS. You can't fire them, but you can touch them. Other military historic pieces. No cost but give a donation to support.

Visited at the recommendation of our Airbnb host as he’s a member. There’s a ton of history in this place and the cannons are still in working order. If you’re in Newport on the 4th of July, they fire them off. I believe they also do so around Christmas time. It’s free to enter but there is a suggested donation of $10. I think it’s worth a trip and the donation. The guys who run it are all volunteers and very proud of their work. Make sure to check their website before you go as they’re only open on weekends or via private tour.

We happened to be walking by and we’re invited inside to have a look around. Everyone was so kind! Our tour guide was extremely passionate and informational and made it extremely fun! I am not a history buff what so ever but, he kept it engaging and fun the entire time and I learned some very cool things! I definitely recommend making time to stop by here! Great experience.

This is a fascinating piece of history. Hidden in a small street off the Eisenhower park and operated by passionate and highly knowledgeable volunteers who graciously give their time to do tours, this museum contains a ton of incredible pieces that range from the revolutionary war era to modern. How they pack so much history in a rather small room relies on the library of knowledge that these amazing staffers have, not to mention this is entirely free to visit. Some of the highlights include four bronze cannons cast by Paul Revere, Prince Phillip’s uniform, Egyptian President Anwar Sadat’s last remaining uniform, and an Appeal to Heaven flag. Easily walkable from the most popular spots in Newport, this should be a must visit for anyone with even a passing interest in military history. I am not the best history student and I had a blast. My bother and father are lovers of all thing history and they were in heaven with our guide who I wish I could name (Wonderful gentleman with a great beard and a cool tattoo) because he deserves all the kuddos for our tour. The museum is Open in the Summer Season and in the fall and winter is open by appointment.

This is a true RI gem. They have items from almost every US war going back to the Revolutionary War through Vietnam. Lots of favorites but, if I had to pick one, it would be the horse's hoof with the shoe still intact from Custer's Last Stand. The uniforms from Nimitz, Eisenhower, Montgomery, Hussein (of Jordan), Sadat and Prince Philip when he was a mere LCDR were fascinating to see. I'm sure I've forgotten some. You have to go if you are a military history buff.

I went by one Sunday and was given the tour by one of the members. It is a really cool museum. Luckily, the guides are really good at hitting the highlights, or you could get lost in there for hours. There are lots of really cool military artifacts. The members are working diligently to label and research many of the items thats history has been lost to time. Our friends at Wikipedia had the following to say: The company's stone and brick armory building, located at 23 Clarke Street in Newport, was constructed in 1835 in the Greek Revival style. The work was overseen by master stonemason Alexander McGregor. The armory houses a museum that features an extensive collection of military uniforms from over 50 different nations. The museum also features the uniforms of prominent individuals such as Medal of Honor recipient General David M. Shoup, General Colin Powell, General Creighton Abrams, General William Westmoreland, Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, Admiral Cameron Winslow, Colonel Katherine Amelia Towle, President Anwar Sadat of Egypt, Admiral of the Fleet Earl Mountbatten of Burma, Field Marshal Viscount Montgomery of Alamein, HM King Hussein of Jordan, HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and HRH Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester. The museum also contains several artillery pieces, including four bronze cannons cast for the state of Rhode Island by Paul Revere in 1798. The Newport Artillery's armory was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
