Came in on a rescue with BP 238/112. They said put her with the public. Meaning the waiting room with everyone. I have already had a stroke and I have seizures. One of the nurses said don't get worked up your not going to have a stroke. After 5 hours they did nothing to help my BP to go down. They are worthless!!!

If you type in any hospitals name into google you will find that they all get fewer than 3 stars. Take these reviews with a grain of salt. Every hospital gets the same complaints. Healthcare is not perfect, outcomes differ as do experiences. Hospitals are not restaurants. Nurses are not waiters and doctors are not chefs.

I wish I could leave zero stars for this hospital. I was rushed by ambulance from an urgent care on Friday afternoon with a bladder infection and uti where I was put in the general er waiting room with everyone else only not to be seen for 13 hours. Now today my symptoms have worsened and I had to go back so I waited for 4 hours and not even a single person saw me even after I told the nurse I was going to pass out and nothing. I ended up going home because Iā€™d rather die at home then have to deal with this hospital again. Not to mention all the drug addicts and homeless everywhere. Also their was a lady who deficated herself in the waiting room and nobody cleaned it or did nothing about it. This place is a joke.. AVOID THIS HOSPITAL AT ALL COSTS ! ! !

My husband went to the emergency room yesterday afternoon Saturday July 9,2022. He went I guess around 1:30pm. And I took nearly 10 hours to have his knee looked at. How long dies it rake to have something looked. There up to there old tricks again. Like . Just like in the past . Where they have gotten complaints about staff, about patients sitting in waiting room for hours being ignored. I've been in the emergency room. Where staff is sitting around talking about there private life and discussing vacations. And talking about patients with other doctors & nurses. R. I. Hospital is the worse around. And being the largest hospital in the state. There up to there old tricks again. There is no need for a patient to be sitting around waiting 10 hours. Waiting for this doctor or that doctor. They did this my Dad back a few years ago. It got to the point. We got so frustrated we left. Because of waiting for so long. They they say there under staffed.

On July 15th 2022, my husband was transferred from St Anneā€™s hospital to RIH after his hand went through a table saw, exposing bones and tendons to his left hand. Due to the severity of the injury we were to be transferred and sent directly to the OR. Upon arrival to RIH, we were greeted by Edgar Mendes at registration. My husband explained the situation and Edgarā€™s response was, ā€œand I care why? There are plenty of people who have been waiting, youā€™re going to be here for awhile.ā€ Taken aback my husband told him, ā€œyou donā€™t have to be so rudeā€ and Edgar immediately grew angrier towards us. My husband was in extreme pain and because his injury had been freshly wrapped at St Anneā€™s, Edgar told him, ā€œyouā€™re cleaned up, youā€™re going to wait.ā€ My husband was called shortly after to triage by the nurse, Mary Jane Curry, she took my husbands blood pressure and with a cocky attitude told him, ā€œgood thing we have 24hr surgeons cause youā€™re gonna wait awhile.ā€ My husband asked her to remove his bandage to properly assess his hand and she said, ā€œI donā€™t have toā€ and sent us back to the waiting area. As a registered nurse with critical care experience, that is uncalled for and Mary Jane Curry failed to properly assess her patient. She also documented that at the time of triage she started and IV and administered antibiotics, both of which were lies. We arrived at 2:30pm to RIH and we were not seen until 8:30pm when my husband finally had to make a seen and beg for a doctor to look at his hand, when he was finally assessed at almost 9pm, the doctor was in shock by the extent of the injury and immediately sent him to critical care. My husbands injury occurred at 10am and it was not until 11pm that he was finally in procedure. My husbands finger was partially amputated, his hand was blue and he was unable to move it when he was finally seen, he was still able to move it at St Anneā€™s, where we actually received proper care. After his procedure, at 11pm, we never saw another physician before discharge at 4am. No one came to assess him post procedure, we were told the outcome of the procedure by the X-ray tech who brought him back to his room in the ED. We were not given any proper follow up instructions from and MD, nor was his pain ever assessed. I have since received a phone call apology from a physician in the MD. However, my husband is without a portion of his finger and heā€™s going through an extensive recovery to get his hand back to baseline. Mary Jane Curry and Edgar Mendes still work at RIH ED, they were never reprimanded for their harmful actions, they are the rude and careless faces of RIH, an embarrassment to the medical profession. If I could give readers advice, donā€™t go to RIH. Lifespan does not care for its patients as they claim they do, keeping staff who cause harm to patients will eventually lead to yet another lawsuit against the medical group. The unprofessional and uncaring ā€œcareā€ we received from start to finish will forever be embedded in our hearts and minds, and we will continue to tell anyone and everyone who will listen our story of how my husbands life is forever changed because of the negligent actions of Rhode Island Hospital.

My experience with this facility has been one of the worst experiences of my life. You had an appendicitis that was causing me the most pain Iā€™ve felt in my entire life. I told this to nurses and there was literally no reaction. They simply told me to wait. I cannot stand and if my appendix bursts (which can easily happen) it will be more painful and may be lethal. And that would happen because of this hospitals negligence. The nurses were either bored and clearly didnā€™t care about ANY patient, and two laughed and joked in my face when I asked what the wait would be. Never in my life have I been so neglected by other human beings. This place is horrible, the nurses are rude and there wasnā€™t even a water fountain in the waiting room. If i die in this room because my appendix bursts someone sue them for me. Thanks.

Horrible er with zero communication and sick people strone about. The nurses are rude and don't tell people how long it will be to wait to be seen. There was a guy with an infected opened wound and they just left him to sit for hours then his wife went to talk to a nurse and she was rude and said it would be a 9 hour or longer wait. They should suggest people go somewhere else because they clearly don't know what they're doing. There's no direction. I just don't understand how people can act like that while the patient is clearly not well and causing anxiety and feelings of panic in the waiting room. It's not even worth going to this hospital go somewhere else. Strange place. I understand they are short staffed but Kent is also short staffed and I've never seen anyone mistreated there. Don't even get my started on the psychiatric emergency department.

Came in at 6am with severe abdominal pains. After three hours and looking at a sign the describes how long each level should wait, I made an inquiry as to why 3 hours with severe abdominal pain. Apparently you get a rating by the triage nurse based on how many interventions you will need. Level of pain is irrelevant. You should be told where they rate you when you get there with the approximate wait time. I would have left immediately. I only came here because my doctors are part of lifespan. Will never make that error again. There were people who ā€œburned my tongue on coffeeā€ who got seen before me. Nonsense.

If I can give less than 1 star I would. I honestly donā€™t know where to begging with how unprofessional, rude and unrealistic the staff can be at the Rhode Island Hospital Emergency Room. I was brought in thru ambulance suffering stroke symptoms. Instead of being seen urgently, I was put in general emergency population where you can last up to 24 hours or more. When I asked for a blanket as I was not given one while being admitted thru ambulance I was bluntly told NO due to POLICIES WE ARE NOT ALOWED TO PROVIDE YOU ONE. I honestly never felt more disrespected and embarrassed in my life as I stood there only wearing a tank and sleeping shorts. Iā€™ve experienced many things in this place but that tops it. The fact that they canā€™t even provide a simple blanket knowing itā€™s freezing and Iā€™m 100% going to be waiting for a VERY LONG TIME I find that inhumane. The hospital charges $300 for aspirin but they cant provide a blanket. Truly disappointing how people are treated while at this hospital.

I impaled my hand on a wrought iron fence. After nearly fainting, I bandaged it and drove myself to the emergency room. It was nothing like I imagined. Everyone was incredibly professional and nice. My wait time was very short. They xrayed the wound, then gave me a tetanus shot and stitched me up. The attending doctor was extremely communicative and professional. He even took my call when I became alarmed after I returned home and was numb in my thumb and index finger. He said it was probably not nerve damage, and he was right - it was just the anesthetic. He warned me there would be a scar, and a rather raised one did develop, but now after about 5 weeks, it is no longer painful or raised, and is barely visible. Thank you RIHER!!

Had to come in due to a recurring episode of vomiting I struggle with. It is a frequent issue and can go on for several hours incessantly, and Iā€™ve unfortunately been to many hospitals on many different occasions for it, and this was one of the worst hospitals Iā€™ve visited. The hospital was by no means busy, and the nurse later told me this was actually a slow day for them. The whole process with triage was a jokeā€¦ It took two hours just to see the doctor. Up until then, I politely asked some employees near my room when I would see the doctor because I was in a lot of pain and was received with meaningless blank stares, eye rolls, and was ignored as if I didnā€™t exist. After two hours and finally seeing the doctor, I explained my chronic issue with nausea and vomiting and was visibly suffering. He was cold, insensitive, and didnā€™t even make eye contact with me once while I explained that this is a recurring issue and the trajectory it usually takes to inform his decision on how to treat it. He said it would take some time longer to be treated and left. After he left, the scribe stayed to take some info and told me that they suffer from this issue as well and sympathize with what Iā€™m experiencing, which was nice since it was the first time at that point I received any sympathy from the people here. In all, it took three hours to be treated. In all my hospital visits for this issue, I have never had to wait three hours for such a simple matter. Itā€™s not about the wait itself, rather itā€™s the sheer lack of compassion for human suffering in the hospital staff that stunned me - people like this really shouldnā€™t be in the medical field. Everything after triage was great - the nurses, Yvette and Liz (I believe her name was Liz or it mightā€™ve been Nicole? She had dreadlocks) were the best nurses Iā€™ve ever had. They were attentive, quick-acting, and most important were compassionate to their patientsā€™ suffering. They deserve to be in a hospital where their professionalism and characters are shared among other staff, and unfortunately that isnā€™t the case here.

The staff at this hospital let a patient just walk out without being noticed or checked out because they were on their phones/had headphones in, ignoring calls. A patient was hitting the call light for half an hour! The "this time of year is busy/we're understaffed" excuse is played out. You let your patients DIE in their rooms due to negligence. Disgusting.

Went to the emergency room this morning. Iā€™m aware itā€™s Christmas and tis the season to get sick; however, it would have been nice to know that it was going to be a 9 hour wait. The televisions were blaring and the front staff/security guards were being loud in a room of sick and tired people (mind you I left at 4:15am after already waiting 3.5 hours).

Never come againļ¼I was sick because of Covid-19. Everyone knows the first couple of days is the most uncomfortable time. I had a fever and sore-throat and I just wanna make a chest & heart test here and come back home sleep. However, I was waiting about 6hours more to finish the test and get the stupid test report. I felt very uncomfortable about the waiting time. Worst place never come again!

I have tried this emergency facility time after time again. Though I see some very hardworking staff members, others appear to be socializing. This ER needs some new management. I do not recommend this facility at all. It is sad to see some of these patients suffer as long as they do before finally getting seen. I am not going to be giving this facility any more chances again and risking my life just by sitting and waiting in a waiting room.

In 1999 I was 19. I came to Rhode Island Hospital for them to remove my gallbladder. I expected them to save my life. Today I have Liver Failure and Kidney Disease because my doctor/surgeon knew he messed up and didnā€™t correct his mistake. I sit here in a waiting room in excruciating pain. I called to check the status and was told thereā€™d be a 12 hour wait and I can always go to another hospital! Eric the manager came out. I advised him of why I was hereā€¦and that my legs are swollen and my entire right side is numb. He said ok. I came here for them to save my life and they took it. I have 2 years to live due to liver failure and now my kidneys are failing. Thank you for making me comfortable in my time of needā€¦ not.

Staff at er check in was rude. My cardiologist asked that I come in to er as I had a heart attack on July 9 2022 and was diagnosed with Covid this week. Explained this and waited 3 hours. In the waiting room. 1 hour in exam room. Er staff laughed and joked around while we were in exam room. Pathetic. Not at all what I am used to coming from Minnesota medical care.

Came to Rhode Island hospital because of illness, and I have been sitting in this waiting room since 2pm it is now 830 pm.they keep telling me they don't know how much longer. They took my vitals and now it's a waiting game along with everyone else. Not one person has come by to sanitize this sick infested room once since I've been here. There is a lot of older people here who I feel so bad for because obviously they are really sick. I just don't get how they can run a business like this.i should ot listened to my fiance and went to Mass General in Boston I would of been home in bed already! Beyond frustrated with the rudeness of the staff! Besides Dr.Wilson she is very nice and professional!

Woke up this morning and immediately had to call 911 because of an emergency situation. We got to the hospital close to 11 am and they put my mom in a hallway. Keep in mind, the emergency situation was that my mother had a very bad seizure and sheā€™s been feeling sick the past few days. They havenā€™t been checking on her as much as they should, she asked for medication to help with her headache after the blood tests she had to do and nobody helped her, and once they finally did get her the medication and connect it to the iv in her arm, she nearly started crying because whatever she was given caused an intense burning and aching feeling in her arm. Coming from someone whoā€™s been there for multiple, I can tell when my mom is about to have a seizure. And after they gave her the medication, she was about to have another and they completely disregarded it. They said that once they put a patient in the hallway, they donā€™t move them because the hallway areas are considered ā€œroomsā€. The neurologist came over to talk to my mom about the things sheā€™s experiencing, and then tons of nurses gathered in the hallways right behind us and talked to one another loudly. Some of the people working here are nice, but it seems like others donā€™t care enough.. I wish that they took better care of their patients. Itā€™s currently quarter to 6 pm and weā€™re still in this same hallway.

Took a family member here to be seen for abdominal pain. While I understand the wait times for which I was not bothered I was more distraught by the ā€œpatientsā€ in disposable gowns that were discharged and ā€œwaiting for ridesā€. They were clearly homeless and looking for a place to sleep. The amount of aggressive and rowdy patients is overwhelming. Unless you have a Life-threatening situation I recommend you avoid this so called ER and go to Massachusetts General.

My husband stepped on a blade for a blender and has to go by ambulance to the hospital. He sat in the waiting room for over 5 hours with gauze wrapped around his foot and bleeding. He ended leaving and treating his wound at home. Bad service, rude staff. Update: Husband spent 2 hours, maybe less at lifespan urgent care. No stitches were used because it had been more than 24 hours and was soggy, Dr glued it for him. Next time no ER, wait until 8 for urgent care.

Yes, we waited a while. But everyone we had interactions with was so nice and helpful from the minute we walked in. The women at the round desk in the middle of the waiting room was so kind to me and understanding. The doctors in the emergency room took such great care of my husband and didnā€™t make us feel days heā€™s at all. My husband needed stitches and the plastic surgeon Dr. Bruce was amazing. We canā€™t thank everyone enough

The only thing keeping this place moving is the security guys & gals honestly. Nurses joking in front of people in pain about how they donā€™t even wanna be nurses anymore. One nurse left me with no meds for an almost 3 hr MRI because she wanted to play the power game with a hurting patient. They didnā€™t feed me for over 30 hours, not even a drink. They told me to not look at my list of symptoms but instead do it from memory. The list goes on. Oh, and they sent me home with someone elseā€™s discharge paperwork, so someone has mineā€¦

Iā€™m not surprised at all this place they call a hospital has a 1.7 rating it just keeps dropping. Iā€™m not sure who is in charge but it seems to be going downhill nurse and staff are so rude I canā€™t explain how frustrated I am after leaving this hospital not because of the 8 hour wait time but because the negligence. Staff is so rude and they donā€™t care this hospital is by far the worst hospital I have ever encountered. I was given morphine for my pain and sat in a chair in pain for over 10 hours. I was also told because Iā€™m allergic to contrast they canā€™t get a good view of my organs but they do see inflammation thatā€™s why they gave me morphine. Doctor ignored my fear of coming home and having the pain repeat again didnā€™t bother to find a different route to see my organs simply told me they canā€™t get a clear view. If the doctor canā€™t canā€™t a clear view they just turn there heads and donā€™t look further when Iā€™m crying in pain. Thereā€™s no need for a hospital that doesnā€™t help their patients.

I have been reading reviews and seen that the hospital response is always that they inform patients of a longer wait time. The opposite is true..they go out of their way to deflect questions, give unreasonable time frames. My husband was there for severe back pain 1 month ago. We were told when we arrived at 8 pm that it was a slow night and heā€™d probably be seen within an hour. But what really happened was that we waited two hours to be seen by a triage nurse and then do more waiting. I explain he was a heart patient and that they needed to make sure he wasnā€™t having an attack. They agreed to do an ekg and give him some Tylenol. After waiting from 8 pm until 2 am next morning I approached the nurses window for a status update. I complained about the fact that everyone we came in with and done that came after weā€™re gone but no one could tell us when we could get a golden ticket to the back room. The nurse actually said ā€œa lot of those people probably left because they didnā€™t want to wait longer.ā€ What a confession from a nurse. I went back to waiting room where a woman who had been waiting 8 ours in pain asked for a nurse to remove electrodes so she could go to another hospital. It took an hour for someone to do that. I wanted to leave, but my husband is a heart patient and wanted some answers. Well, the only answers I got was that there were no beds and not enough staff. At about 5 am they rounded a bunch of us leftover people and herded us to a back room so that at least we could be more comfortable. While waiting there I overheard 2 nurses talking about the ER wait time. (We were there for 13 hours). One saidā€ thank god for Ashleigh. Sheā€™s the only one who helped. She then listed 5 staff members who were lazy, incompetent and non caring. This was so revealing as all night I had been told they were doing their best. And this was always told in a cold, contemptuous manner, as if an 8 hour wait was reasonableā€¦forget about the other 5 hours. I had a lot of time to observe the front desk, where everyone in a black uniform (about 6 people sitting around ) were having a good old time eating and flirting and doing absolutely nothing..RI should consider trading some of them in for good nurses. We only went there because my husbands cardiologist is there, but never again. We finally got seen at 8 am the next morning. The resident diagnosed Shingles but his boss said maybe something more serious was going on so she needed to order a ct scan, e ray and blood work. It took another 2 hours to get the tests done. Then waiting for the results which showed nothing wrong. So we left with nothingā€¦the Shingles rash appeared the next afternoon. So the next time we need help we will go to Miriam, because his cardiologist is connected there, as well. This ER feels like you are in hell, like being in a nightmare you donā€™t wake up from. If you DO go to RI, bring pain meds with you because you canā€™t get any there while youā€™re waiting in pain. I hope no-one from RI answers this with the pat statement about wait times and their desire to be upfront with patients..

This place is a total joke. My mother was super sick, incredibly dizzy, very high blood pressure, vomiting, in immense pain, drifting in/out of consciousness and these people didnā€™t give a SINGLE care in the world. I get that this is their job and they are desensitized to these type of things, but what a joke. So much appreciation to the staff Nicole, who was patient, kind, understanding, and willing to go the extra mile for EVERYONE, while the other staff members and security guards (who love to flirt with each other, clearly, no security is happening in here) sat around chatting on their phones as the waiting room filled up. I hate this place and am absolutely disgusted. Itā€™s unfortunate that this is the ā€œplaceā€ to go in Rhode Island for medical care and the Level One Trauma Center. This place SUCKS. So so SO disappointing. Also SEVEN HOUR wait for an EMERGENCY ROOM? What the hell? Times are difficult but I do have a hard time understanding that here at Rhode Island Hospital that they are doing even a smidge close to the best that they are capable of. DO BETTER.

I will never come here again and to think the nurse on the phone said to bring her in she will be in good hands .and we are still here waiting on blood work that was saposed to be repeated two hours after first one to have it drawn 6 hours later .I understand that hospitals are over welmed but to waite 6 hours for blood work that was sapose ti be done 2 hours after first one is horrible and unacceptable. This is my first and last time i will trust to come here .
