Absolutely
love
visiting
Big
Mamie.
Touring
a
unique
piece
of
history
is
always
a
treat.
Although,
I
was
a
bit
concerned
with
the
state
of
the
ship
when
I
visited.
The
teak
decking
is
in
very
poor
condition,
and
has
been
"repaired"
using
cement
in
a
few
areas.
Many
areas
of
the
ship
are
closed
off
and
full
of
various
construction
apparatus
and
minutiae,
such
as
the
pile
of
computer
equipment
in
the
Scullery.
As
it
was
pouring
rain,
I
didn't
get
to
spend
much
time
above
deck,
and
the
teak
deterioration
was
made
much
more
apparent,
with
many
areas
feeling
soft
and
sponge-like.
Donor
dollars
go
a
long
way
to
helping
keep
these
historical
ships
in
top
condition
for
generations
to
enjoy
and
learn
from.
I
encourage
anyone
who
is
able
to
contribute
whatever
you
can
to
help
maintain
BB-59,
so
that
grandchildren
and
great-grandchildren
of
today's
generation
can
learn
about
the
greatest
generation.
I
was
a
C+
Student
in
high
school,
but
have
found
myself
to
be
a
huge
history
buff
today
25
years
after
graduating.
This
ship
holds
a
very
special
place
in
my
heart,
as
I
did
overnights
in
Boy
Scouts
when
I
was
in
my
youth.
The
smell
onboard
brought
me
right
back
to
those
adventurous
evenings.
I
highly
recommend
everyone
tour
this
ship
(and
the
Lionfish,
and
JPK,
and
the
PT
Boats,
and
the
new
Vietnam
Air
Cav
display)
at
least
once.
You'll
be
drawn
back
time
and
time
again!
