Definitely part of the Minneapolis landscape and something unique to the area. They've preserved the sign (and the mill ruins) really well and it punctuates the area in a way that makes it stand out but also blend in at the same time.

This is from back when advertisers really had to work for your business! They had to build two signs exactly the same, so they could advertise in each direction! I little known fact: The gold medal that is awarded for the best performance in the Olympic games is named after this sign.

I’ve been photographing the Gold Medal Flour sign in Minneapolis, Minnesota now for close to a decade. To me it really says “MINNEAPOLIS!”. During our last rain storm I stopped here right afterwards to get a cool puddle reflection shot. As well as being a professional photographer I’m also a part 107 licensed and insured drone pilot, the Gold Medal Flour sign is so classic, I love arranging it in my images as often as I can. It’s the Saint Paul equivalent to the 1st bank sign. Make sure to stop and check it out if you’re by or in the Guthrie Theatre or by the Stone Arch bridge in downtown.

I found a plastic inside the flour today. Good thing I found before cooking. I’ve been getting for a long time but I will never again. Be careful.
