This archaeological site was a bit disappointing and neglected. Its had very few information boards telling you what you were viewing, and some of those were unreadable. Their was no marked pathway route just an entry sign and no health and safety. I guess this was reflected in the 50 lira entrance fee paid to the surly man in entrance office. Their was no information leaflets in English. Saying that I gave it 4 stars because it had a lovely amphitheatre that had been renovated and you could climb to the top (no barriers) , beautiful mosaics, colomns and some statues. Their was a cafe and toilets and plenty of parking in 2 places. Their was restaurants at the 1st carparking area. Make sure you wear sensible footwear as very cobbly and uneven in places and overgrown.

Closed by the time we went there. In winter they close at 4pm sadly. We could only enjoy the sunset outside. The site extends over an area of one square mile extending along North Cyprus' coast and inland. Much of the area still awaits excavation and this is forested with mimosa, pine and eucalyptus trees. The finding of important relics and gold coins dating from 411 to 374 BC, was the first genuine evidence of the city's archaeological importance.

We booked a great "Get your guide"- tour for the Türkish sights. Just a daytrip for all the important sights, St. Barnabas, Salamis and the destroyed Famagusta. We recommand the organized trip. Much better, than to check for yourself. Most of the rent-a-cars does not gave insurance for the türkish sektor. Salamis is a very important archäological place but ruther run down by the turkish administration. It' sad to see the condition.

Gazimağusa gittiğiniz de mutlaka gidilmesi gereken bir yer. Farklı bir aurası vardı.

There seems to be a lot more columns than the last time I visited.

Salamis is spoken of in the Bible and was a must see for us historical buffs, my wife and I. The arena is in good shape but not most of the site. Weeds are growing in areas of historical interest, but they use the words "ruins" for a reason. It's a 2 hour or less visit, cheap to enter. Doesn't compare to Ephesus, thus 3 stars.

Wonderful place with so much to see... Be prepared with information because there are no boards or pamphlets. Have some water and sunscreen with you if you want to walk around the site.

One of the best ruins in the area and so much freedom to roam around and experience what it was like long time ago.

It is a very neglected area and is difficult to visit without a guide. Before you go, watch at least Ayhan Sicimoğlu's Salamis episode. The entrance closes at 16 out of season, so we had to go all that way a second time. Be sure to visit early. No brochures, information or maps are provided. Preparation needs to be made in advance.

Man sollte 2 Stunden einplanen. Eintritt nur 3 Euro. WC und Getränke Stand vorhanden.

Tarihi bir alan biraz bakımsız kalmış

A great place. There are many parts that have not yet been revealed, but the exposed parts have survived to the present day in very good condition. You should definitely add such a cultural stop next to the sea, sand and sun.
