The
last
time
I
saw
a
show
here
the
sound
engineer
was
wearing
a
beefy
looking
set
of
earplugs.
If
he
needs
them
standing
all
the
way
behind
the
floor
near
the
bar,
then
maybe
it’s
actually
too
loud.
The
decades-old
boomer
idea
that
an
indoor
show
has
to
be
so
loud
that
it
causes
permanent
hearing
damage
for
most
people
in
the
crowd
if
they
don’t
wear
earplugs
isn’t
cool.
If
you’re
trying
to
be
cool
by
damaging
people’s
ears,
just
stop.
That’s
not
cool.
It’s
cool
to
be
able
to
hear
in
your
day
to
day
life
without
a
constant
ringing
of
tinnitus.
It’s
cool
to
hear
the
silence
of
a
quiet,
snowy
night
without
the
constant
ringing
of
tinnitus.
It’s
cool
to
hear
great
music
live
without
it
sounding
like
a
muffled
mess
through
earplugs.
You
know
what
isn’t
cool?
Blasting
people’s
ears
so
hard
that
everyone
has
to
choose
to
either
damage
their
hearing
or
hear
the
music
they
love
enough
to
spend
money
(sometimes
a
lot
of
money)
to
see
live
through
earplugs,
compromising
the
sound
quality
and
clarity.
The
expensive
stacks
of
loudspeakers
probably
sound
great
when
the
volume
isn’t
so
loud
that
earplugs
are
necessary
to
prevent
hearing
damage.
Quit
with
your
bait-and-switch
ticket
fees
while
you’re
at
it.
