Lose track of time in Bijagos Like the title of review states, there is no better place to lose track of time – and indulge in old school R & R - in Western Africa than the Ponta Anchaca Lodge. I have travelled to and stayed in each and every one of the 17 countries in the region of West Africa and can say with confidence this one ranks right at the top when it comes to the right dose of Luxury getting delivered with High end Hospitality. And what makes the experience even more delightful is that it doesn’t cost you an arm and a leg like other similar stays would in rest of Africa. #AffordableLuxury. The Speed boat ride organized by the hotel (for extra charge) was a breeze and we reached the lodge from the port in Bissau town in less an 90 minutes! Right from the minute we landed to leaving the resort we were pampered, indulged and served like Royalty. Everything on site was so wonderful and without any over-exploited touristy feel it felt like a home away from home LOCATION: Located in RUBANe island of the Bijagos Archipelago – it is no more than a 90 minute boat ride way(with favorable current and tides) from Bissau port DINE + DRINK: Wonderful Bar and overwater restaurant on site. One of the best I have experienced in Western Africa. Also, the All inclusive didn’t mean a boring Buffet but came with delectable food whipped up a chef in-house. The Bar – under the coconut tree – couldn’t have been any more African and came with an overload of Island-Feel that we never felt like leaving it and retiring back to our room! ROOM: We stayed in Bungalow #2, so this review is based on that; VIEW:Million dollar view of the Ocean, along with a private pier/day beds/Lounge deck! ; SIZE: Very spacious room; AIR-CON: Perfectly functioning cooler that helped in setting the perfect room temperature; BED: Comfortable bed that played the expected part to put me to sleep; BATHROOM: Stand in shower; TOILETRIES: Not recommended, Do BRING YOUR OWN! FACILITIES: Be prepared to get into a pure African chill-out mode! No Gym. The Pool Is quite tiny and more of a dip and lounge than a workout swimming pool. Great for sundowners though. They do have some water activities you can rent on site and also you can go for a nice sunset walk to the other end of the beach. SERVICE: Friendly staff that took care of all my needs with a smile and made us feel pampered and well taken care of. Special Shout out to All the Bar Staff as well as Alan at the front office management HOW WIRED YOU WILL BE: Free LOW speed Wi-Fi that works only next to the bar/restaurant and was quite patchy/spotty. Big Plasma TV screen dishing out dozens of channels spanning sports, news, music, movies and a wide variety of entertainment Primarily in FRENCH language only!

We were anchored off and apparently the only yacht that’s been there in years. It was an incredible experience. The amazing staff and manageress Shalange went out of their way to accommodate us and help us with the authorities. The food was out of this world. I want to go back and get married there one day.

We really enjoyed our stay. The lodge is on the beach and it is a lovely setting. The food is excellent and portions are huge. The hospitality is excellent and the owner, a French lady is always around to assist.

Rooms spacious and comfortable, an excellent beach and food that is usually of a high quality and with ingredients not to be found in local places, which can make a nice change if you are staying on Bubaque. Solange, who is very helpful and accommodating, can also arrange transfers to Rubane from Bubaque for day trips or longer, as desired, for a reasonable price. Rubane itself is very beautiful and well worth exploring. It's quite pricey compared to other places nearby but you do get your money's worth
