Wow, what a hike! Be warned, this trail is steep and challenging. You'll be scrambling over rocks for hundreds of feet up. There's some nice spots to rest with a view. As an experienced hiker, this caught me off guard. I was on all fours for half this hike to get up and over the wall of boulders.

Eyo, great hike! Red trail was challenging and awesome! For easier hike, the base trail is recommended (green). There is a rock section that would require some hiking cardio. The view is astonishing. Took around 2 hours to go through the hike at a relatively slow hike. Will definitely come back to it.

One of the most intense Hikes in the area. A very steep climb on big rocks. Make sure you have good knees before going here. We had fun. The view from the top is amazing! Make sure you have enough water. Would be tough for your pets.

The majority of the climb to the peak is climbing rocks, its very difficult but well worth the view. Follow the spray painted markers every 30 or so feet when climbing up the rocks. Climbed during the afternoon. The climb down is faster (in my opinion) you just have to be careful with the rocks and balance.

This is one of the most fun trails I’ve ever hiked. Decent views and fun rocks to climb over. Some shade. I recommend you park at the west entrance, then use the base trail to walk to the east entrance. Then climb the mountain from the east and descend the west. This is because climbing the big rocks will be easier than descending them. Plus as you become more tired, the hike will become easier, as the west side is much easier. We parked at the east entrance, and then use the base trail to walk back to our car at the end and while that was fine, we were already exhausted by that point. There is a north and south summit so don’t forget to go and look at the nice views from both sides. Bring a lot of water. And a few snacks and preferably some sandwiches for you to eat because you are going to get tired and hungry and thirsty. As others have said, this is a difficult hike, but my wife and I are not the most experienced hikers, and we are from South Louisiana and we managed to do this hike in exactly 4 hours and we had a blast. So that makes me think that you can do it too. However, if you think it might be too difficult for you, you could just walk on the base trail itself and then turn back when you think you might have gone far enough.

First time hiking Arkansas. Woo-hoo, lovely trails, steep but easy to follow. I went up east summit and down west side trail to connecting "base trail" at bottom, back to parking lot for a loop trail experience. Maybe 3hr with stop on top.

Great trail, good scramble up, and believe the sign that says it'll take 2 hours. I started with less than anhour to go until Sunset and had to turn back before the top as I ran out of sunlight

Beautiful. A must do hike if you like that sort of thing. Not a true beginner hike but not extremely difficult either. Temp was 46 and I still worked up a sweat so bring water

What a beautiful and fairly difficult trail! Well worth the climb (literally hands and feet at some points). Not for the faint of heart, but definitely worth it.

The east trail is HARD. The first 0.4 miles or so (as you ascend) isn't too terrible, gradually gaining about 200' in elevation. For about 0.2 miles after that, though, you gain about 500'. And it's almost entirely boulders and rocks you're climbing up. My 8-y/o son enjoyed the hike immensely; it was too much for my 5-y/o daughter and 11-y/o black lab mix to handle, so they didn't go too much beyond where the steep ascent begins. Even for myself, I wasn't mentally prepared for the amount of bouldering we'd be doing (and also underestimated the amount of time it would take), so we turned back before reaching the summit. If we're ever in the Little Rock area again, though, we'll plan to hit this and conquer. In talking to others hiking this (both ways), it sounds like the easier route, if you're wanting to do the whole thing, is to hike up on the west side, as the elevation gain there is more evenly distributed throughout the entire ascent, and down on the east side, then pick which way you want to head back along the base trail. Bring plenty of water (don't forget for your dog, too, if you're planning on bringing them) and don't expect to be able to fly through this (I'd suggest planning on at least 2 hours here). In reading other reviews, it seems staying on the trail might be an issue, but at least in our experience, this trail was well-marked with red blazes, so perhaps they improved that recently.

Love to come here and get a good hike/run up the east summit. It’s all uphill and ver very rocky but it sure is fun.

Steep hike of about an hour with a nice view at the top. The climb is harder on the East due to large rocks but you could check out the West summit trail for a more gradual rise in elevation.

The sign at the start says it all: This is not an easy trail. However, it is very rewarding with some beautiful scenery. Make sure to follow the red blazes as there are multiple unmarked trails crisscrossing the mountain. Because I was hiking solo, I stopped before I reached the summit, but I still really enjoyed this hike.

I am visiting from out of state and definitely didn’t know what I was getting myself into when I chose to go up the East trail! I imagine there are people who start and choose not to continue. If you just want to get to the top, go with the west trail. If you want a challenge, this one is for you! I did see people with small children on this trail. I personally wouldn’t recommend it for kids or dogs.

NOT for the faint hearted! Having said that, it is amazing trail with steep elevation yet nice views from the top specially when the weather is great. You literally have to climb rocks a significant portion of it. I would recommend to bring water with you. Take the west trail if you want an easier route. Parking here is limited.

Nice climb, but it can be really, really crowded

A hike in Arkansas around a small mountain. 3.5 miles of trail thru natural forest going around the base trail. The south side was the easier part of the trail. The west to the north was rockier with steeper climbs as the trail traverses around some valleys. With my trustie hiking stick and the company of my wife, we spent a lil over 3 hours in beautiful natural Arkansas as mother nature made it. Great adventure.

Wonderful and exhilarating... I am fast becoming a regular. Beautiful views and serene atmosphere. Can't help but get in touch with nature on this hike. I'm fast becoming a regular. The feeling when you get to the top of the mountain is priceless. You should go try it out...

When it isn't super crowded this park is a great place to find a little bit of serenity during an awesome workout.

Great hike and beautiful view from the top. If you don't like hiking up a steep inclines, over large boulders, then go up the West side of the mountain.
