It's really worth it! It is beautiful to see the unusual formation the houses are built in. They have some bars and refreshments around. Just go and get lost walking around the narrow streets.

Nice little town. If you take the bus here, come very early. The last bus back to Durrës leaves at 2:50 p.m. from the bus terminal (further out of town) and takes approximately 1.5 hours. You can get there with the city bus for 30 lek (approx. 0.30 euros), which comes every half hour. If you're here, definitely hike up to the castle. Great view, worth it.

During our trip from Holland to Turkey, we have decided to visit Albania too. This was for us a chance to visit Berat too. Despite the fact that is was extremely hot during our visit (42+ Celcius), it was worthwhile!

Berat is called the 'Town of a Thousand Windows' and you can see why in the old town. Best viewed from across the river to get the whole scene. Most of the lanes lead to hotels, bars and restaurants but you can still walk around them for free. From here you can take the walk up to St Michael's Church and then to the castle (if you're feeling energetic).

We visited Berat in the beginning of May. It's really gorgeous, cosy and super snug town. One day is enough for exploring, strolling in old Town and climbing to the Berat tower (you can also drive, 1 km from the river shore). Interesting place, highly recommend to visit!

#thetownofathousandwindows According to the legend, the Tomorr mountain was originally a giant, who fought with another giant, called Shpirag over a young woman. They killed each other and the girl drowned in her tears, which then became the Osum river. Berat (alb. Berati) - 2400 year old town located in southcentral Albania is known as "the town of a thousand windows, also the Museum City". It is one of the oldest and most beautiful towns of Albania, with a settlement having existed there since at least the 6th century BC, when it was a fortress-settlement of the Greek Dassaretae tribe on the old border between Illyria and Epirus. Berat and Gjirokastra are inscribed as rare examples of an architectural character typical of the Ottoman period. Located in central Albania, Berat bears witness to the coexistence of various religious and cultural communities down the centuries. It features a castle, locally known as the Kala, most of which was built in the 13th century, although its origins date back to the 4th century BC. The citadel area numbers many Byzantine churches, mainly from the 13th century, as well as several mosques built under the Ottoman era which began in 1417. Gjirokastra, in the Drinos river valley in southern Albania, features a series of outstanding two-story houses which were developed in the 17th century. The town also retains a bazaar, an 18th-century mosque and two churches of the same period.

Really nice to see it from the another side of the river! The town is actually pretty small but also they are very ready for tourism and it’s not excessively crowded.

Great old town of Ohrid is nice to walk, with some hills but not really big, so most of the people would probably be able to do it. Nice buildings and lots of places close to the lake to stop and enjoy the views, and also have a swim or refresh yourself.

It's always just beautiful and now that the promenade and the streets in the city have all been restored, it's even more beautiful.

Stone paved narrow streets are fabulous along with old styled houses. The roofs are different and every house has multiple windows. Bridges connect both sides of the city. Multiple viewpoints entice you to spend more time.

Since we were there on the weekend, not all the shops were open, but there was still enough. The streets were full of tourists. In the evening the atmosphere became even nicer as many small restaurants, bars and cafés set up their tables on the street and you could have a cozy dinner there. You can see the 4 small streets after 1 hour at the latest and are really nice for a day trip.

Berat is often referred to as the “town of a thousand windows” due to the many large windows that adorn the historic homes of the old town and actually this is true.

Old medieval town incrusted in a mountainous valley, with a beautiful river cutting across. This is a must stop if you're traveling within Albania. With a beautiful castle at the top of the hill and it's straight cobble stone roads, it a look back in time and mix of beautiful cultures.

Amazing little town ... nice and peaceful people.... the town is so rich in its history and architecture... definitely I need to visit it if you are in Albania 🇦🇱...

Lots of construction work going on at the moment so the paths are tricky to navigate and dirty. Otherwise would be a very nice old town to wander through and get lost in the alley ways.
