Thinking
this
might
be
my
only
opportunity
to
visit
Fiji,
I
wanted
it
to
be
perfect
in
every
way.
I
spent
days
-
weeks
-
scouring
the
website
of
every
hotel
and
resort,
looking
for
the
best
in
quality,
affordability,
tranquility,
and
exclusiveness.
My
time
was
well
spent,
as
I
found
it
all
at
the
Fiji
Orchid.
Due
to
Covid,
I
haven’t
seen
my
mother
in
3
years.
We
decided
to
reunite
in
Fiji.
It
was
a
perfect
choice
for
a
mother/daughter
combo,
but
I
also
wish
I
had
taken
my
honeymoon
here.
The
resort
is
small
and
intimate
-
private
and
romantic
-
everything
we
wanted.
Our
time
was
limited,
so
I
was
delighted
that
this
resort
was
just
20
minutes
from
the
airport.
Our
driver
was
waiting
for
us,
and
we
were
at
the
pool
within
half
an
hour.
The
grounds
were
meticulously
cared
for,
and
our
room
was
spotless.
Whether
sitting
poolside
being
served
drinks,
eating
fresh
fruit
and
vegetables
out
of
the
garden,
or
lounging
in
the
old-world
bar
area,
guests
are
constantly
pampered
by
every
employee.
From
the
minute
the
staff
greets
you
with
a
drink
in
hand
to
the
moment
they
hug
you
goodbye,
you’ll
enjoy
every
minute
of
this
tropical
oasis.
Here
are
a
few
examples
of
the
service
we
received…
We
stopped
to
admire
a
beautiful
coconut
tree
on
the
property.
Tevita,
one
of
the
groundskeepers,
noticed
and
asked
us
what
we
were
looking
at.
We
told
him
and
went
on
our
way.
Later
that
afternoon,
he
showed
up
at
our
bure
with
3
coconuts
picked
from
the
tree.
He
demonstrated
how
to
open
them,
created
a
small
spout,
and
poured
the
fresh
juice
into
our
cups.
It
was
amazing!
Our
waiters
were
so
attentive,
kind,
and
gracious
that
we
gave
up
visiting
other
restaurants,
preferring
to
stay
on
the
beautiful
grounds
with
the
excellent
service.
They
memorized
our
preferences
and
soon
had
the
perfect
latte
waiting
for
us
each
morning.
The
meals
were
reasonably
priced,
bursting
with
flavor,
and
featured
authentic
local
cuisine.
Any
accommodation
was
welcomed.
I’m
glad
I
didn’t
book
an
expensive
tour
to
the
Saweni
Mud
Bath
with
an
outside
company.
Kesho,
the
full-time
driver
of
the
Orchid,
took
us
in
his
beautiful
vehicle,
personally
introduced
us
to
the
host
there,
and
waited
for
us.
He
then
took
us
to
the
market
in
Nadi
and
bought
us
our
first
drink
of
fresh
Kava.
He
walked
us
to
a
local
restaurant
so
we
could
try
some
authentic
Fiji
cuisine
and
finally
escorted
us
to
some
great
shopping
places.
We
felt
like
princesses.
Finally,
we
booked
our
mandatory
Covid
test
at
First
Landing
Resort
nearby.
We
thought
we
might
have
dinner
there
after
our
test.
We
pre-paid
and
confirmed
the
booking,
and
the
driver
from
the
Orchid
graciously
drove
us
there.
When
we
arrived,
we
discovered
that
First
Landing
had
forgotten
about
our
appointment
and
sent
the
nurse
home.
They
told
us
to
come
back
another
day.
We
asked
for
a
taxi,
and
they
sent
us
home
(for
a
$15
fee)
in
the
employee
transfer
van
(with
broken
windows
and
no
seat
belts).
Not
a
pleasant
experience.
The
next
day,
when
the
lovely
owner
of
the
Fiji
Orchid
heard
this
story,
she
pulled
her
car
up
and
personally
drove
us
to
the
hotel.
She
walked
us
to
the
nurse’s
station,
waited
for
us
while
we
took
our
Covid
tests,
and
then
drove
us
back
to
the
Orchid.
Can
you
imagine
that
happening
anywhere
else?
The
owner
is
accessible
and
accommodating;
if
anything
is
less
than
perfect,
she
will
tend
to
it
immediately.
In
closing,
this
place
is
not
for
everyone.
There
is
no
TV,
and
Wi-Fi
is
only
in
your
room.
If
that’s
what
you
want
on
vacation,
go
somewhere
else.
If
you
are
afraid
of
nature
(frogs
or
butterflies),
again,
not
for
you.
It’s
not
a
place
to
party
or
have
a
wild
time
-
it’s
a
place
to
rejuvenate,
connect
with
nature,
and
experience
the
kindness
and
graciousness
of
the
culture.
