Nice museum with three storeys of exhibits and a souvenir shop. You can see models of various windjammers (the last and the largest tall ships) that crossed the Atlantic and brought cargo to Europe. There is a room with Cape Horn exhibition and ship manoeuvre simulator. You can also have a temporary tattoo made. There is a children "underwater" playground in the basement. Place worth visiting!

One of the best maritime museums in the world. From the exhibitions inside to the magnificent sailing ship Pommern outside...and yes you can go onboard.

Best ship-building museum I have been to. All info is about local ships, their crews and owners and what happened to them. On board the Pommern, you can smell the caulk, understand how the crew lived and you get some small understanding of life at sea in a Baltic winter.

unique experience for a tour in an old ship decorated to convey sailing experience of its time. The audio guide helps you to merge further with the old time sailing experience with background noise and actors narrating informative stories. It took us 1 good hour to explore the ship. There is another museum in the building.

A virtual trip with the Pommern in the 1930s, from Mariehamn to Port Victoria in southern Australia, with the help of a magnificent audio guide, the stories of travelers accompany you as you cross key-corners of the sailing ship. At times you feel like you were on the move too, if you let yourself be carried away by the lights, sounds and other multimedia applications that are activated as you pass by. The naval museum on the shore, next to the vessel is also beautiful and interesting. You can see ship building, safety on the see and working mechanisms of a steem engine and hundreds of details of the life connected to the sea and to the navigation.

Paljon nähtävää. Saa helposti menemään vaikka koko päivän! Samalla lipulla pääsee myös Pommernin katsomaan. Lippu käy näihin myös toisenkin kerran niin voi samalla reissulla käydä uudelleenkin.

Hienot puitteet. Näyttävät esineet purjalaiva-ajoilta. Mm aito merirosvolippu joita on maailmassa vain 2kpl. Ja käynti Pommernilla samailla lipulla

Nice example of how maritime life was in the past and a well preserved ship. This landmark of Mariehamn is a must see for everybody.

Must go when visiting Mariehamn. So interesting and well arranged museum that you will spend much more time as you expected. I was here early August, no queue.

If you have time for only one museum in Åland go to this one. There is both the boat (the upper deck is the main one) and the museum itself. Both are enjoyable and give insights of the activity that is very important on the archipelago.

If you're into ships and anything related, this is the place to visit! The ticket price was 15€ for adults. The place has 3 floors total with one underground. There are plenty of interesting things to see and discover, including: a real pirate flag, highly detailed ship models and artifacts from the life of sailors For children there are many interactive expositions to explore with "sea monsters" as a highlight.

The museum was great but make sure you tour the ship as that was fascinating

This museum is a real hidden gem. It is a world class maritime museum. The museum is in two parts. The museum proper covers the long maritime history of the Aland islands. The clipper ships from here were significant in the grain trade between England and Australia. The second part is the four masted clipper Pommern. This visit is great even including an audio guide.

Small but really well done exhibition. My favourite was the small rooms made to look like from inside of the sailingboat. Also the curiosities were interesting.

Brilliant museum which helps you understand Åland's place in the world of the 19th century. Great opportunity to spend time on a beautiful old but very large sailing ship. Great fun and an absolutely brilliant restaurant. One of only two authentic skull and crossbones flags is on display - from North Africa , early 19th century.

Pros: -Ticket is good for ship Pommern museum and for the Aland maritime museum where you buy ticket. -Audio guide in many languages for ship museum -Audio guide tells you a story, not boaring facts. My husband thoug felt like it is disadvantage of the audio. He was left with unanswered question. -Nicely maintained and set rooms on the boat, easy to access -Entertaining for kids as well. Few touch screens keep kids interacting, dancing game for adults/kids, you can try on costume on the boat. In ground museum there is few themed kids rooms with a cool stuff -Good looking photos can be made on the boat and in ground museum -Very interesting for all ages expositions in ground museum Cons: -None. We really enjoyed it. I recommend this museum as Must see on Aland island 🇦🇽

Åland Maritime Museum is a monument to history of Aland as the holder the world's largest fleet of wooden sailing ships. Be sure to visit the four-masted barque named Pommern, built in Glasgow in 1903, which is anchored behind the museum. The interior of the museum is built like a ship's prow cutting into the land. Our cruise ship was docked right next door so very easy to walk over after we had the included cruise tour in morning. Give your self a couple of hours to visit the museum inside and ship outside. When on the ship as price of admission you are provided an audio phone setup to listen to a guided tour of ship. The speakers describe life aboard ship during a fishing cruise.

An awesome slice of maritime history. Lots and lots of interesting exhibits with real items and scaled models. Also tells the history of Åland area seafaring. Well curated and clean place with friendly staff. Highly recommended way to spend couple of hours in Mariehamn.
