Really appreciated the reception accepted my press card unlike the RUDE reception at the Museum of Fine Arts. Love that ALL the permanent exhibition placards are translated in English and French. I found Ghent’s history and the numerous artifacts to illustrate that very well-presented. It’s definitely a compact museum, with the modern history given shorter shrift. The medieval refractory is beautiful. The museum wasn’t crowded at all on Saturday at noon. As for the temporary exhibition, it’s unfortunately not translated into English. It’s on skylines. I found that less interesting anyway and ran out of time so wasn’t as big a deal for me.

Loved every minute of 2,5 hours here. The receptionist welcomed us in Slovak language after finding that we are from Slovakia ! 👍🏼 They described that there is permanent exhibition and temporary exhibition. Permanent exhibition starts with room size map of Gent. And after that starts history of the city, room by room you will learn large parts of history. There are artifacts, infographics, and even in some rooms interactive maps with timeline information ❤️👍🏼👏

So much to do here! The exhibition is interactive and tells a comprehensive history of Ghent, nicely presented. I wished I had more time to explore the multimodal elaboration of Ghent. Just FYI, I only spent 1.5 hours there, and it was not enough.

Short review: worth every euro Long review: I really love interactive museums, yes, it shows the history of Ghent, but in unique and amazing way, and there are some small things to read about everything you see, lots of things to interact with and different stories you can hear. Me and my friends fall in love with it and if you are planning to visit - make sure you have at least 2 hours for full experience of STAM!

(Translated by Google) The renewed setup is great! Whether you want to get a quick idea of the history of Ghent or just want to go deeply through the city's history, you can do both, without loss of quality. (Original) De vernieuwde opstelling is top! Of je nu snel een idee wilt krijgen over de geschiedenis van Gent of net heel diepgravend wenst doorheen de stadsgeschiedenis te gaan, het kan allebei, zonder kwaliteitsverlies.

(Translated by Google) Full of expectations, we left for the renewed STAM ... What a disappointment and simplification it has become ... Of course the surroundings of the museum, the buildings, are "beautiful", but in terms of content the museum has become bland, weak coffee. Where is the STEM from then? Not even all the halls in use - regardless of Covid-19. And even with the time slots it is clear that the "free" visit is not under control. Was the "old STAM" really that complicated and unclear or too sectarian and therefore inaccessible ???? Does really everything have to be "fun", "playful", "simple" and "simple"? Whoever wants to experience more will be forced to consult Wikipedia, or read "a good book" about the city ??? Definitely a missed opportunity! A very disappointed Gentenaar, who no longer puts this museum in the first place ... Too bad, too bad ... Jammer, doodjammer...

Nice museum. It was closed for renovation for a while and now it looks much better than before. Got a nice outside space and a café for people to chill around. The garden on the inside is beautiful. Good collection. Definetly worth a visit.

Very nice museum, full of medieval books (what very interesting for me) and ather stuff. One minus and why 4 stars - no any description in English. Come on guys! Such a popular place and we should take audio guide in English for 3€. Just translate sights!

It's a delightful place to explore the history of Belgium and Ghent. The welcoming staff and convenient amenities like coat storage and lockers enhance the experience. The exhibit begins with a captivating satellite photo of Ghent, followed by well-organized rooms showcasing various historical periods. The cleanliness and thoughtful design add to its appeal. After your visit, grabbing a coffee or snack at the cafe is a nice touch, although it can get crowded due to its limited size. Parking may be a challenge on busy days, so plan accordingly.

Nice experience. All exhibitions are informative, interactive, well organized and friendly approaching, even for children (I think). I can feel the love toward the city from all people who made this museum alive. Very emotional sequences of experiences, too. I still rate 4 stars because there were some maps and perspective drawings that I hope they would print out as postcard, but there were almost no postcard that can really show off this museum. That's a pity.

Very nice museum. This was very interesting, as a Belgian there's a lot I didn't know about the History of this town. I don't want to spoil too much but, just know there's a gigantic room with the map of the whole city, and a dozen of dedicated rooms with artefacts, objects, paintings and information about each period of Ghent's History. Everything is very well kept, and the museum itself is in a very nice, clean, historical building. The personnel at the entrance will give you any additional information you'd need with a bright smile and enthusiasm. An amazing experience for exactly 2,5€ as a student. An incredible bargain, and an absolute must if you're visiting the town.

Interesting museum and fantastic under 26 price. However it was not worth the value of a full price ticket as it often lacked structure, missed several decades between 1900-2000, the wars and more about the guilds and the artefacts would have been nice. Nevertheless there were some interesting displays and overall fun experience especially the map in the first room.

A very nice museum. Basically all information was in 4 languages (EN, FR, NL, DE). The museum is informative, interactve, interesting, well-made, modern. It is not very big: you can see the entire museum in around 3 hours. The only downside: it costs 10€, that's maybe a few Euros too many. Still, I fully recommend.

The new renewd expo in the STAM is very well made. The full floor aerial picture of Ghent is very cool, you could spent a half an hour just looking at it and finding places. The rest of the expo is also well structured, a nice mix of items and interactive tools and videos. I really liked the storyline of 'Lady Ghent' in the interactive tables. 1,5 hours went very fast. I need to go back for a longer visit when permitted (by COVID rules).

Good re-use of historical buildings, tracing the history of Ghent through the centuries. But I felt that quite a lot of it would only be of interest to locals, and of little interest to tourists and visitors.

I love museums, and STAM is great! Housed in a former abbey, you learn a bit about the history of the building as well as the history of the city. If you do not read Dutch, GET THE €3 AUDIOGUIDE! If you do not get the audio guide, you'll miss out on a lot of information. The way the main exhibit is set up has a nice flow, and the artifacts from the middle ages were quite interesting. I went at the end of my trip, so I could appreciate the maps and names of places. Also: they have a small copy of the Mystic Lamb, which was easier to look at than the real one in St. Bavos' cathedral. The outside area is nice, and people were outside studying and taking in the sun. Highly recommended for visitors interested in learning more about Ghent.

(Translated by Google) Located a good kilometer from Gand-Saint-Pierre station, the Museum of the City of Ghent is a good introduction to this metropolis for those who do not know the city well. Anchored in a historic building, the museum knows how to combine antiquity and modernity, with a nice layout, clear and educational information panels, audios and computer graphics going straight to the point, a well-diversified decoration. I will nevertheless note a negative point: the French pronunciation of Flemish places. Using French voices / boxes to pronounce a Flemish topography is unprofessional. A correction would not be superfluous.

A very interesting combination of an old and modern bildung. This underlines the hundreds of years of Ghent's cultural and economic history very well. The displays are informative and interactive. Even for children there is enough to be interested in. The cafeteria next to it is also worth a visit.
