Visited from the UK, where we've already enjoyed just about every chocolate factory experience the UK has to offer, so our expectations for a chocolate-themed attraction are already pretty high. This one is really special, though! The Chocolarium is very interactive, making it great for children - a good blend of education, fun and a little bit of magic. The chocolate samples were delicious, and myself and my 10 year old were completely in awe of the last bit of the tour where you can see so many different elements of the factory at work - that's an experience that hasn't existed in the UK for a long time, but took me back to what Cadbury World used to be like when I was a child, before it became an overly-commercialised visitor attraction. My daughter also loved that the moment we stepped off the train it felt like the experience began, following the signs for the 'Chocolate Way' through Flawil's streets and countryside. Not an overly-long walk, and the excitement builds as you walk through the field with the factory getting closer! We liked how the tour was completely self-led so we could go at our own pace, and at the end my daughter really enjoyed decorating her own chocolate bar. It's also worth saying that the shop at the end is VERY fairly priced, so I couldn't resist buying a few souvenirs, and both the chocolates and jelly sweets are probably the best I've ever tasted so I wish I'd had space in my hand luggage for even more! We combined our short break trip to the Chocolarium with a visit to the Lindt Factory, which was a very different kind of experience. We loved both, but if you could only do one I would really, really recommend prioritising The Chocolarium. It's something extra-special!
Cute place to start your day with young kids. Whole tour including chocolate making precess takes 1hour 20 minutes. Chocolate tasting absolutely the highlight for the kids, also all the way to try free chocolate samples. There's also Wardrobe you can hang your jacket or a locker to put your items. Token you could just ask at the cashier. Indoor parking is just by the entrance. Small cafeteria next to cashier too. Great experience with the kids.
The visit to Maestrani provided a good look into the chocolate-making process, from raw ingredients to the final product. The tour was informative, and there were several tasting opportunities. We left with a sugar shock 😉 The tour itself feels very commercial and has a lot, a real lot of kids. The shop offers a wide selection, though a stop for those interested in Swiss chocolate.
Fun, cute and positive. They put some love on making screens and viewing areas informative and fun. Many chocolate museums exist, but they managed to make it different. Of course the multiple samples help but it’s worth visiting to support a local brand and get truly unique gifts. Would gladly come back and recommend to any visit near St Gallen.
You can eat all the free chocolate you want on the tour... And they have many different kinds... including six different flavored chocolate fountains (fully enclosed and totally hygienic by the way). The kids can design their own chocolate bars. Great fun!
It's pretty nice place, mainly for children. The whole thing is for 1 hour, after that you can either make your own chocolate, which is pretty amazing or buy some chocolate in the shop. One star less due to huge potential to make it even more interesting :)
Really well made tour area. Had a wily wonky and chocolate factory layout inside. Nit going to give away any details as it's always more fun to enjoy a place as a surprise. clean and tidy everywhere and neat to see details in tour area if production while also seeing the production itself from birds eye view from above on tour platform. sample areas are well worth it and cleanly organized. Definitely worth the visit. and the selection to purchase Is great in entry/ exit area too for purchasing. enjoy all! 🤤🤤🤤🍫🍫🍫
The Chocolarium was part of a day trip from Zurich. The tour of the site started with a well made video of the Maestrani family that started the chocolate factory. Once you complete the video there is a small "walking museum" with many hands-on activities (well suited for children) and finally near the end of the tour you get to see the packaging room where wrapped chocolates are deposited in dispensers for the taking and tasting. After the walking tour, you have a chance to enter the gift shop and purchase some gifts and chocolates. Since "food safety" requirements are quite strict in Switzerland, you actually are not allowed onsite when the chocolate is processed and packaged - that was a bit disappointing.
