One of my favorite meals in Florence so far. Reservations are normally required but we walked in right when they opened and they were able to seat us downstairs in the basement (not as bad as it sounds at all). They were still attentive and the service was great. The food is simple and delicious. My favorite was the rigatoni with ragu sauce. The roast pork was also very tender. Beef stew was also very soft with a strong red wine flavor. Will definitely come back here if possible. Simple, cheap meal but of course you can always order more or the steak!

Amazing little gem in Florence! Very popular, but the turnover is high, so you shouldn’t have to wait too long for a table if the restaurant is full. We had the mushroom pasta as a starter and the steak as a main. Absolutely divine! The service is very fast and friendly. We can only recommend.

The experience here was "different", to say the least. We were getting our covid tests done before lunch, in preparation for flying home to Texas the next day, and we had an excursion booked for 2:30. We weren't sure we would have time to eat here so didn't make a reservation. The covid test was completed quickly though and we were there waiting for Mario to open at noon. There were a lot of people there waiting as well. They have two areas of service, the main dining area on the main floor (one photo, a long narrow area), and an area in the basement (several photos). We were told "no reservation, you must sit in the basement AND the table must be cleared by 1:15". Since this place was recommended to us by friends as having excellent food, we proceeded to the basement. It was down some stone stairs, down a long hallway, past a kitchen, to a tunneled out room with about 8 tables. The room was clean, but "rustic". The food and service were fantastic, we really enjoyed the meal and laughed about the basement. And we finished about 1:00, ahead of the stated deadline. I highly recommend this place, but strongly suggest you make a reservation. You may still get the basement, which is fine, but most importantly, it guarantees you will get seated.

Nothing special, not recommended. We ordered the Filet without bones and medium. But they gave us the bone & was rare. No customer oriented, no communication. We were so disappointed with the food and would like to give authentic feedback here. Not so special as the overall 4.6 If you want me he good beef, go to Siena. There is a best one.

Amazing Florentine steak. This was recommended by a local. We had a T-Bone steak to share. It’s always made rare (no option for medium or well done). But they way they cook is amazing and melt I. Your mouth. They spoke good English and service was great. Highly recommend going here.

During my visit to Trattoria Mario restaurant on December 31, 2022, I had the pleasure of enjoying lunch with my tour group. Despite the bustling atmosphere, I was pleasantly surprised by the fast and efficient service we received. The servers promptly seated us, allowing us to indulge in our meal without delay, as we were eager to embark on our sightseeing adventure in the surrounding area. While the ambience may not have been the most remarkable, it was certainly satisfactory. Taking into account the overall experience, I must say that my time at this restaurant was nothing short of excellent.

One of, if not the best meal I’ve had in Italy! We got a table that was meant for a reservation that cancelled, we were seated within 5 minutes of arrival. Once we sat down we ordered a liter of the delicious house wine, 100% recommend. Then we ordered the T-Bone steak Florentine. We were nervous about the “doneness” of the steak, but once we took the first bite, those nerves went away. It was absolutely incredibly flavored over their wood fire. The service was great (checked in, but not too much) and they made a delicious side pasta dish for our 9 month old. Would recommend this to anyone nervous to try Florentine steak. Incredible!

We tried out the beef in tomato sauce, the beef stew, tomato soup and some ravioli here. Almost all of the dishes were tasty and I can understand why this place is popular and highly rated. We didn't really like the tomato soup(had better versions in other florentine restaurants) but the other dishes were fine. I do also understand that most people come here for the steak, and maybe next time we will try that.

Our favorite place to eat in Florence. It’s a very unassuming trattoria serving up some delicious food. The ragu is a must and all the second I are delicious. Give the tripe a try, it was so good!

Fantastic spot. We were lucky enough to secure same day reservations. Albeit, our bus was had made us an hour late. We were graciously allowed to come on in. The staff was incredible. They put up with our obvious language barrier. Little tip, just look around any other patron dishes and order away! The Steak Florentine, so SIMPLE yet so delicious, especially when paired with the potatoes. If you can get it. Take a phrase from Nike and “JUST DO IT”.

Quite an unassuming place from the outside, came here as it was recommended to us from a few friends who had travelled to Florence. The restaurant is more like an old school eatery, which is not a bad thing. The food was brilliant, as if it was cooked by someone's Nona. The price was very reasonable as well. Would eat here again!

Wonderful restaurant. Would rate a 8.5/10. The price is very good and portion sizes are great. Food was served quick, but wish the service was a bit better. Absolutely would recommend a stop and is one of the best restaurants in Florence for steak. Great dry aged and cooked to perfection.

The price is right! Great value for what you get. Steak comes rare so be mentally prepared. Ravioli was cooked to perfection. Potatoes were a great addition to the main course. Bread could have used olive oil be was delicious when dipped in the left over tomato sauce. Limited seating so book reservations in advance.

Casual home style cooking for an affordable price. It was a good introductory meal to Tuscany. This place is frequented by locals so reservations are strongly recommended if you want to be seated on the main floor.

My friend and I ordered a beef steak (L bone) with side dishes. Initially, the waiter brought us a huge steak, which was too big for us. Later, he brought us a smaller piece that weighed 1.1 kg. We agreed to take it, but we didn't pay attention to the texture of the steak until we started eating. It was too fatty and had a lot of uneatable connective tissues. Here are two things to be aware of before you go to this restaurant: 1. You need to make a reservation. 2. There is a downstairs area where you may be seated.

The best stew I've ever had. I would do ANYTHING just to eat here again. And if you're lucky you can eat without a reservation.

Make a reservation way in advance and show up on time! Totally worth planning ahead. The food was incredible and memorable. We had the beef stew (very generous portion with all meat —they didn’t water it down any veggies or potatoes…just stuck to the good stuff!) and the spaghetti pomodoro which was amazing.

Absolutely delicious. The waiters were attentive and knew everything about the menu. We ordered different vegetarian stuffed pasta dishes. They were mouth-watering. The wine our server recommended was spot on. I highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed.

Trattoria Mario feels like you’re eating in your grandpas kitchen. We snuck in for a late lunch and were seated downstairs at a communal table with a group of Italian ladies grabbing Tuesday lunch. We took our cues from them and got a delicious vegetable soup, L-bone steak, and fries. House wine and beer was flowing. Go with plenty of time and take your time, but definitely go!

Am still dreaming about this place after a month. Best steak I’ve eaten in my life. Was so concern about the rare steak before visiting but wow… the taste was phenomenal. Highly recommend to get your Florentine steak here. Pasta Bolognese is really delicious too. Service is warm and friendly as well!

This is, by far, the best Florentine steak you will ever experience! The food, the atmosphere, and the service are pure Italian joy. Do not miss out on this experience - make a booking and enjoy the best piece of meat you'll ever experience

One of my favorite places in Florence. Came here for a Florentine steak and left very satisfied. I’ve heard there’s usually a line but we came in early right after seeing the David, and only had to wait for a few mins before we were seated.

A truly wonderful experience. The food was so simple, yet absolutely phenomenal. We had the meat pasta and the Florentine steak. The staff were so lovely and it was very cool to be able to watch the chefs at work.

This might be the best Tuscan gem in right in the middle of Florence. It’s easy to miss amongst the other big trattorias, but this little guy has them all beat. A little hard to order if you don’t know Italian, but the staff are very helpful. My only regret was not getting the florentine steak, as I was having it later that day. It just gives more reason to come back again.

Absolutely brilliant place! Went here on a recommendation from a friend and it's one I'll be recommending myself! Traditional Italian Trattoria; basic, no frills and really good food! After reading reviews online I emailed and booked for the next day at 12 noon. On arrival we got seated and handed some menu's. The waitress was very attentive and offered help if we needed it, to understand the menu. We ordered a small (900g!) florentine steak with chips and salad as sides. If you don't like rare (or possibly blue) steak, then this isn't the place for you! Given it was a little under what I'm used too, the meat was divine and the atmosphere was brilliant. We paid 54€ for a 900g steak, chips, salad, water and 2 beers; which we thought was very reasonable! Would definitely recommend and visit again!

Home style traditional food. Everything we ordered was delicious, the service is friendly and efficient. Make sure you make reservations, and this is a very popular place.

Fantastic lunch spot. Absolutely make a reservation, they rarely have room for walk-ins. I got the Florentine steak and my wife got the bean soup. Both were delicious. If you want the steak make sure you like it rare, because they won’t cook it any other way!
