Let's
be
honest:
Florence
is
beautiful,
but
the
city
center
can
feel
like
one
giant
tourist
trap
—
at
least
when
it
comes
to
finding
legitimately
good
food.
From
the
outside,
I'
Girone
De'
Ghiotti
looks
like
every
other
panino
window
in
town,
and
you
couldn't
be
blamed
for
passing
it
by
without
a
second
glance.
But
that
would
be
a
big
mistake.
The
shop
is
tiny
and,
during
the
busiest
hours
of
the
day,
it
can
be
hectic.
But
the
sandwiches
are
served
on
homemade
bread
that
is
toasted
to
perfection,
and
are
topped
with
meats
curated
largely
from
local,
small-batch
suppliers
around
Tuscany.
You
can
taste
the
quality
instantly.
My
wife
and
I
were
blown
away
by
how
flavorful
these
sandwiches
were
—
so
much
so
that
we
came
back
for
a
second
round
during
our
four
days
in
the
city.
(That's
something
we
almost
never
do.)
Part
of
the
reason
why?
Aside
from
the
quality,
the
value
can't
be
beat.
Sandwiches
here
typically
range
from
five
to
eight
euros,
and
if
you
grab
them
for
lunch,
they're
big
enough
to
keep
you
satiated
until
even
a
late
dinner.
Where
else
can
you
find
something
this
good
for
the
equivalent
of
$7?
Just
be
forewarned:
they
have
a
strict
no
ketchup,
no
mayo
policy!
(If
you're
asking
for
mayo
on
something
like
this,
I'm
not
sure
how
to
help
you...).
This
will
be
our
first
stop
when
we
get
off
the
train
every
time
we
visit
Florence.
