Although very close to the cathedral, the restaurant is somewhat hidden in a side alley and therefore not overrun by tourists. This allows for a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere and doesn't make you feel like you've fallen into the first tourist trap. The menu offers a wide selection of traditional dishes (the beef tagliata was excellent) and the wine list leaves nothing to be desired. The service was courteous and very friendly, not at all intrusive. Price-wise, of course, more expensive than the conventional pizzeria, but that would be a poor comparison as well. It is worth it in any case. Many thanks!

Not a bad place. The owners are very friendly. I felt a little sorry for them because the place was half empty. But I did appreciate the quiet, especially so close to the Duomo. I had the sea bass. Wonderful. Overall a good experience.

I had the spritz lunch. It was lovely. Excellent food and service. I will return for a dinner before leaving Florence.

What a wonderful restaurant and with such sweet staff too. The lady serving us was extremely polite and even came to tell us the panna cotta wasn’t vegetarian because we earlier asked for vegetarian pasta dishes. Very attentive and sweet. Service was quick too and we truly enjoyed the food. The location is nice as well, with a view on the Duomo. Would highly recommend!

We've been travelling in Italy for nearly a month and this is my favorite restaurant so far. We ate there twice in two days. The menu includes traditional Italian food but with a creative and interesting flair. The food is fresh and beautifully plated. Alessandra and her family are attentive hosts and servers. We had the menu of the day and other items on the menu and everything we ordered was delicious.

Super Fiorentina, excellent Filet, great pasta. Top in town! Surprising but fantasic: Caprese raffinata - a real experience. And great as always the Pici senesi al ragu di cinghiale.

Super amazing. The staff were so polite, welcoming and attentive. The food was spectacular. Best we've had in 4 weeks in Italy. The atmosphere was really delightful and nicely air conditioned to cool off and enjoy lunch away from the crowds. They have this amazing cheese dumpling appetizer with a sweet tomatoe mustard that is creative and delicious. Plus they have delicious local beers from Tuscany. It's a must try.

This was such a beautiful meal all around. Stop what you are doing and make a reservation here, you won’t be disappointed. The salad, pasta, steak is cooked perfectly. Wonderful staff and atmosphere.

We found a spot here while most of the other restaurants were full. Because of the 4.5 stars rating we had high expectations. We’ve ordered the traditional and the excellence menu but were quite disappointed and can’t really recommend them. One of the sheep cheeses in the starter was way too extreme, the sage taste on the tortellini was over the top and overall the dishes were just not that enjoyable. Only the dessert was actually good. During our 10-day Tuscany trip, this was one of the worse dinners we had and definitely the one with the lowest value for money. The staff though was super kind and very attentive. Also the atmosphere and location are great. I’d like to give 4 stars for that but the food really didn’t cut it for us and left us unhappy.

Il caminetto is one of those places that you will remember for a long time. The understated elegance brings a feeling of warmth and friendliness. Each course is a voyage into subtle tastes and well-conceived pairings, the fried pecorino and pear antipasto being a favorite of ours. Alessandra arrives early to make her personally crafted desserts, which are exquisite. The location takes you from the bustle of the piazza while still being in viewing distance of the Duomo. Alessandra's English facility is a plus. Stop in and enjoy the experience.

Disappointing. We have been to Florence twice previously, and dined at Il Caminetto each time, where it became our favorite restaurant in the city. While visiting Florence for the third time, we decided to go to Il Caminetto again on Thanksgiving to celebrate our holiday. In hindsight, big mistake. We made reservations and upon entering the restaurant, were surprised to find that 90% of the restaurant was being utilized for a private wine tasting event. Unfortunately there is not a private room, but rather every table in the small restaurant, except for our party of five and a party of two, were essentially right on top of the private event. There was a photographer “flashing” photos like a constant strobe light on our dinner. In addition, there were ongoing speeches and presentations during the entire dinner, forcing us to speak in a whisper so as not to disturb the wine tasting. If we got a bit loud, we received glares from the attendees. It was beyond uncomfortable and awkward. We should have been informed of this event while making the reservation and we would have gone elsewhere to allow for an enjoyable dinner. This event was clearly the focus of the staff, as the service was well below attentive, bordering on dismissive. The food, which was previously excellent, was also below expectations. The steak was cooked well below our requests, and the beef tartare was sinewy and truly inedible. Will not return. Our Thanksgiving dinner was ruined. The experience would have been better if someone had informed us in advance of a massive private event, or at least acknowledged or apologized for us feeling like we were intruding on someone else’s private event.
