One of the finest "bar" establishments we visited in Italy. This is the type of place you would come for coffee if you sent your kids to Oxford and owned a family estate called Saltburn. The service is a bit pretentious, but you'll get used to it after a few days in Italy.

By far, the best cappuccino that I've ever had! Best croissants, too! The prices are more than affordable - unexpectedly good for the quality that exists. All of this, if you stay at the bar! The queue moves fast, don't worry. Cappuccino - 1.60€ Croissant - 1.40€ Excellent quality! Must stop, if you visit Florence!

Had a 2 cappuccino's and 1 espresso, and I have to say they tasted nice, but the service in this place was terrible. Literally let everything down. Sat down, had our order taken (as you can see quite an easy order) it has taken wrong. Got one hot chocolate instead of a cappuccino, and no espresso. Ask for the cappuccino, and get ignored that they got the order wrong. I ask where the cappuccino is, he said oh, I'll process it now, and then brings the cappuccino. After drinking, we ask for the bill, wait 10mins, nothing, ask again, nothing. Then stand up by the door because of how long it takes, still nothing. Have to actually chase them down for the bill and finally get the bill, and the nerve. Trying to charge us for the hot chocolate which they wrongly gave (which we didn't drink). No apology no nothing, waste of time and money.

The prices are of course high because of its central location. We only had some drinks but the service was not bad. The coffee pot of coffee Americano is really nice since it keeps coffee warm for a long time.

This restaurant is in a great location on Piazza Republica where you can see the carousel and hear the street music. As you would expect, it is filled with tourists and the price reflects that - expensive. The service was good. The food was okay. My sister was able to order a club sandwich off the lunch menu (nice) which was good. My wife got the pasta with clams which was one of the worst meals on the trip - not a lot of flavor or clams. I got a stuffed pasta which wasn't bad. The wine and drinks were really expensive. Take it for what it is, but there is much better food in Florence.

We came for an afternoon snack and the offers are good. The staff was quick to find us a seat and to get the order. The issue was that either they forgot to put it in or they forgot to make it. We asked for coffees, a bun with cheese and truffle, and a toast but the toast never came. Took around 25 min for it to arrive and after two reminders to the waitress. At the third time she went herself to look and came back with it. Kindly she removed it from the bill but kind of ruined our first food experience in Firenze. Nonetheless, the wait was good because it was pouring outside. Regardless, the place is historical and still recommend the visit. The cakes and sweets looked delicious. The staff is also well dressed and professional by the way. One other slight less positive note is that the prices are a bit too high for what we can get. 5-6€ for a toast is a bit too much in my opinion.

Personally I think the food overall quality are very food and the service is good too, thank you to Pietro. Just a little expensive compare with the local restaurants. I had a late lunch with lobster pasta with vegetable as a side dish. Food taste and pasta quality are good. Veggie also very fresh just a little small. The dessert also very nice. It is a very good location to stay for a drink and enjoy the environment. If I stay longer I will come back again.

I had espresso macchiato; it was very nice. The plain flavor croissant was not made of authentic recipe. But i would say the additional egg yolk (i think) to the ingredients was a plus. We also had chocolate. They’re very tasty. Would recommend anyone to have a cup of coffee when you’re tired to city walk!

The café is old but a defiantly gold . It takes you to a different era. Established by a Swiss family nearly 300 years ago during the medici era. Lovely decor, great service. I was there only for coffee. it's a bit expensive. You get an Americano for 7 euros!! But it's worth the visit.

Great location. I was told it’s the most expensive coffee shop in town, but it’s pretty much worth it. Excellent ambience, clean, professional staff and very decent food. We enjoyed it enough to visit three times in two days.

If a place has been around since the Medici, you know it has to be good. This upscale, yet casual cafe is in a fantastic little location that lets you enjoy the views of Florence while dining on exquisite cuisine. The staff was top notch. Dressed to the nines and as friendly as they come. Prices are a little higher than other places in Firenze, but it is well worth it in my opinion. The pancakes were a little on the sweet side, but that’s exactly how I like it. Fruit was fresh and tasty. Coffee was smooth and like I said, the view is priceless. Highly recommend and would come back the next time I’m in Florence.

Expensive but a beautiful spot. It’s steeped in history having first been opened by the Gilli family nearly 300 years ago (in a nearby location). Pastry selection impressive and delicious. Great atmosphere

We have been attracted by the cute look of items, and ordered and took away several deserts as our supper. It's fanatics taste for all the items, Even it looks simple, there are multiple layers of taste inside. Didn't experience Any Asian hate or anything.. Service staff packed the deserts with care and explained What's inside with patience when we consult them . It's great surprisingly nice taste and experience as tourist. Love this and I'm gonna miss this..

Absolutely delightful. Go to Gilli's for a cappuccino and a pastry at the bar. You will not be disappointed. This authentic and quality cafe is in a historic building dating back to 1733. You will feel like the most fancy person in the world, but not have to pay a high price at the bar. My family traveled all around Italy and this was our favorite coffee shop. If we lived in Florence, we would come here every single day!!:) Go there and see for yourself!

What a great atmosphere and in a lively square. Nice spot to either have dinner or stop for a drink, fancy coffee or dessert after a dinner date. The deserts are not only beautiful but delicious. Try it out you won't be disappointed.

They have the most delicious tiramisu I’ve ever tried. I recommend Gilli coffee which has a different and good taste. The interior decoration of this restaurant is made in accordance with the spirit of Florence. paintings, tables, chairs and chandeliers are pretty nice. Prices are quite acceptable for this kind of luxury restaurant.

Nice ambiance and friendly staff! I’d like to try something different in the menu to give a better feedback. I had a breaded chicken breast which had no flavor but was very juicy and the aioli sauce had a good taste. Good place for a caffè and dolce with pretty views.

A great spot for cocktails. A little higher priced than surrounding places but they provide quality service, great light bites with the drinks and a phenomenal cocktail. The negroni jelly was awesome, the only place I saw in Florence with that!

Café Gilli is good but is in a heavily tourist influenced area. They do somewhat cater to that clientele. That said, the pastries are good but not great. There is a large selection of them, and coffee and cocktails are available as well. It's really a good place to stop for a sugary snack or a bit of relaxation near the plaza.

Classic and chic cafe by the merry go round area in Florence a few blocks from the duomo square. Had great after dinner drinks and dessert. Good recommendations from the bartender. Indoor, outdoor and rented outdoor seating available

Their cappuccino is perfect. The secret when you come here is to have your coffee and pastry standing at the counter because it is so much cheaper than the prices at the table!! Their croissants and pistachio cookies are sooo good. Also their bathrooms are extraordinarily tidy and clean lol

Very traditional and historic Italian restaurant. Thomas was an excellent server and a pleasure to speak with. Prices are higher but worth when it comes to quality and excellent customer service. Don’t pass on the deserts. Delicious!

I came in twice during my visit to Florence. The ambience is lovely with outside and inside seating. During my first visit I ordered Clam Linguine and a Gili Spritz (I believe it’s called) along with dessert made of mango which was super delicious. I also ordered a cappuccino which was served with mini chocolates. I totally forgot the names of the dishes but they were delicious. The service is extremely slow. There were a lot of tourists seated which could have been the reason. Since I enjoyed my lunch so much I decided to come back the day I left. I was promptly seated by the host and waited almost 30 minutes without being greeted by a server and I had to leave to prepare for my flight out. I was highly disappointed that I didn’t get to order anything.

Excellent location on the piazza. It offers both indoor and covered outdoor seating. The outdoor area is very comfortable even in the dead of winter, provided that waiting patrons close the doors to keep the cold out. Good menu, with some surprisingly innovative items included. Prices are surprisingly reasonable given the location and the quality. Service is quick and as professional as only Italians can be. The Caffè is quite large, but expect a short wait for a table.

Um, hello there, go first, read later! This place is an institution. It is a must see. went there for coffee and desserts one day and morning coffee, orange juice, another and both visits were exquisite. Everything we had was delicious. The service was excellent. Everyone was super friendly it was a little on the pricey side, however it was well worth it.

As it sits in Piazza Republica, this place definitely caters to tourists. Prices are much higher than what you would find in Florence as you are paying for location. Services are overwhelmed with the number of tourists they get, so it is VERY slow. Just be prepared for it. Coffee is very good, hot chocolate is very European style (much thicker than in US), desserts are good

It's such a beautiful location. We indulged in delicious desserts and coffee while thoroughly enjoying the vibrant atmosphere. The glass room provided a unique and entertaining spot for people watching. A perfect blend of sweet treats and ambiance.

  • 5/5 Kevin K. 1 year ago on Google
Be aware you are paying for the experience, people watching, and location. There are places with better food, better coffee, and better drinks for cheaper, but not in this square. Get the sandwich sampler, a drink, and have fun looking at the crowd. Beautiful presentation, and a really full sized menu.

Great spot for a casual yet sophisticated experience. The pastry is the best we’ve had in Florence and the coffee is great. The waiters were slow though, we asked for the bill three times until the fourth time where we became extremely frustrated. Otherwise, highly recommend!

  • 4/5 Mikaela M. 9 months ago on Google
Beautiful cocktails and atmosphere right in the heart of the square. You pay for the experience for sure! Well worth a drink, but they aren't cheap! Also, the wait was a little long for drinks and the check, but that's also a cultural thing. (Note: if you get seated on the edge of the outdoor bar, there are homeless men and women that may approach your table.)

  • 4/5 Amanda M. 2 years ago on Google
Pretty good overall! We got everything pictured for €8.50! Some of the cookies we tried were just ok but the one with pistachio cream was quite nice. As well, I got a fruit tart that was also very good. The staff were friendly and helpful. Prices do go up if you sit in the cafe so keep that in mind. Overall an 8/10 and might be back or might try to find something a bit better.

Great café with atypical old-fashioned atmosphere. They are serving one of the best tiramisu I ever tasted and cappuccinos are really good (we took them in iced version). The only reason about why I am not putting 5-stars is because it is a bit overpriced!

  • 5/5 Hadi S. 1 year ago on Google
So many tasty delights. Definitely worth a visit. Tiramisu in the glass is best. The small treats (Dolci Vari) are really great too did trying multiple different pastry options.

  • 2/5 Funmilayo A. 1 year ago on Google
Beautiful environment where you can have breakfast/brunch but is a shame because they don't give a welcoming to the clients. A small portion of foods (such as levitate). Even though, me and my friends asked for the bill, they let us wait 10 minutes and let other customers go ahead of us. It is very anti-professional.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this place. An old and classic cafe from 300 years ago. Great design and furnitures. I just got a coffee and I cannot comment on their dessert and so on.
