Services: - Poor security: reception closed from 3am to 6am (employee was sleeping in the back of the reception, we saw his folding bed) and no phone number available at the reception in case of emergency. - No security camera in the corridor next to the reception. - Reception is far from the rooms, the employees can't hear anything if emergencies occur on the floors above and they don't make any rounds (especially to keep the place quiet at night). - At 3:30 am, we were physically attacked by one of the roomers while we were sleeping. We knocked on both doors of the reception and called the hostel and nobody answered. We had to leave the hostel in the middle of the night and come back at 6am, since we felt safer in the streets than at the hostel. The morning employee was not very empathetic and did not accommodate us at all. He even said that he would help us to fill in the police report in the same day and did nothing. He let the man (he and his friend could not be found in their computer reservation system) who attacked us sleep until the morning while we were without a room and had nowhere to go (all the other hostels were full ). *We were not even reimbursed for that all-nighter. The next day we went to file a police report on the spot. The staff did not take any responsibility for this event that occurred under their roof. Moreover, when we reported this incident to the manager, she did not listen to us at all and tried to alleviate the situation by telling us that what happened was not so serious and that the person who attacked us was a "good person". Rooms: - Not much insulation: you can hear other people talking in neighboring rooms. - Doors of other rooms very noisy, to the point of waking you up: they should post signs that you should close the doors very quietly or adapt their current doors to be less noisy. - Air conditioning very noisy and they are only installed in the rooms, meaning that there is no AC in the halls, kitchen, bathroom, etc. - Very noisy neighborhood to sleep well. * No chance to have a good sleep in this Hostel! - Lockers very small. - The facilities like hanging light for reading, towel, washing machine, etc., are very expensive. - There are not many hooks to hang our laundry and other useful equipment in the room (ex. Mirror). - Not decorated at all and very cold atmosphere. - The women's bathrooms are very far from the mixed rooms. Location: good, close to everything

It feels bad to leave a lousy review, but this was one of the lamest hostels I’ve ever stayed at. It severely lacks taste or a sense of what makes a space inviting. It smells funny, the lighting & decor makes it feel like I’m in a monastery, youth camp or a clinic, I can’t tell which… There’s no comfortable or inviting common space for people to gather and meet, aside from the cafeteria which just isn’t really cozy at all. (They have a rooftop terrace but it’s tiny, not comfortable, and is closed most of the day). For many of us traveling, meeting people is the entire point of even staying at a hostel (even during Covid, vaccinated guests should be allowed to mingle if they choose). The staff was nice, but didn’t have a lot of information or recommendations to offer about what to do in the city. The luggage room is up a narrow set of stairs which is extremely inconvenient. The beds are comfortable but have absolutely NO privacy - just very basic bunk beds. Aside from it being quite clean & quiet and having the basic necessities, I see no good reason I’d ever want to stay here. If you’re just looking for a very quiet, boring place to sleep for a night and store your things for the day, this place is fine for a budget traveler. But if you’re the more social type and staying for longer than a night and want to feel cozy, I’d strongly advise avoiding this one. *Edited to add: There were not many other travelers during my visit, as I was there early in the week, but my review stands that the space is not well designed for comfortable socializing.

Our room had bed bugs, when we spoke to the staff they didn't seem too bothered. They did offer to change our room and do our washing but the damage was already done.. Otherwise the kitchen and common area were nice. Bathrooms were good. One staff member was very friendly and helpful while the next day it took us an hour to rent a bike. I have mixed feelings about this place 🤷

The location for this hostel was absolutely perfect, its right in the centre of Florence. So for that, it's a really good value for money. The whole hostel was kept clean. However the locks on the lockers in the rooms didn't work, the kitchen had very limited cutlery and seemed to be a lack of spoons so we had to eat our breakfast with a fork, and the biggest complaint is that the shared bathroom onto our room made the whole room smell like sewage whenever someone used the showers. This needs to be fixed as that's quite unpleasant to sleep next to.

I've been to different hostels in Europe and this is one I wouldn't visit again. Rooms: 10 people in one room is excessive. The air conditioning doesn't work properly and beds aren't comfortable. It smelled really bad. The cabin to lock your staff doesn't work well. Restrooms: Few restrooms and showers for many people. Even at 1am, they were full. Really dirty. Kitchen and common area: This is maybe the only decent thing about the hostel. It's a big area with many tables and chairs and the kitchen, even when I didn't use it, it looked comfortable. Reception: The woman who attended me was kind and diligent

No great. Building in itself is nice, facilities like washing machine, common area big enough, kitchen even though is only one stove and short equipment. The staff is not really friendly and they have ridiculous regulations about deposits (for borrowing a towel or a small light for your bed) and timing for using facilities even curfew!!!, i came one afternoon around 1pm from Greve (Tuscan countryside) and i was wet because it rained and i needed to take a shower the member of staff, a lady does not really know how to deal with costumers, did not let me get in to my room until 3:30pm because it was cleaning time!! I understand room need to be cleaned but 2 hours and half it is seem to me exaggerated! Especially when I was not doing a check in i was staying over!!! It is a pity because it is nice place, the cleaning is well done and and the location is very good but definitely it needs more common sense in the customer service

Not recommended. You can get a better place. Pros: Central location Cheap price Cons: - Uncomfortable squeaky beds. -Bathrooms are really far from the rooms and not clean. - Not cold enough in the summer as they're using small portable AC. - No proper shades. -2 hrs of no access to bathrooms for cleaning. -Curfew from 3-6am like a Catholic school. -Ugly, small and dirty kitchen/public area. -Cold atmosphere between the guests as the hostel management isn't doing anything. No open spaces, no activities, literally nothing to cultivate international hostel environment. DO BETTER!

Would not recommend. It's like a prison mixed with a maze. Community bathrooms are on the other side of the hostel and they are TINY. Plus toilets lack seats and sheets are itchy. You put on your own bed sheets and take them off at checkout.

BED BUG ALERT !!! We stayed at this hostel after they insisted that bed bugs were not a problem. Not impressive first impression, definetly one of the least glamorous hostels I've stayed in. I was in a 10 bed room, however, to my surprise, I woke up to an 11th roommate... IN MY BED. He scurried past my face and greeted me when I went to take my sheets off in the morning. Even worse, FRONT DESK... RUDE. The hostel staff did not care and instead gaslit us telling us it was probably a mosquito... the remainder of the day was anxiety inducing and caused a lot of chaos. Would give this hostel 0 stars if I could. DO NOT STAY HERE.

The building in itself and location was fine - the beds were comfortable. However, the lockers in the room (for which they sold padlocks) were useless as you could open them effortlessly even with the padlock closed correctly, the locker could not be locked by a padlock. Furthermore, you had to rent a bedside lamp for your stay if you wanted one - in my opinion that is absolutely senseless - what use does it have for me to rent a bed lamp if no one else in my room has one and they leave the light on? There was a stench in the bathroom and around the hostel and it definitely could have been cleaner. +air conditioning +bathroom integrated in room +we had an all girls room even though we booked a mixed one, which was nice if it was on purpose!! We were really relieved

i LOVED this hostel! despite the funky smells in the bathroom (not too bad though). the building itself is so gorgeous, with a lot of space and beautiful ceilings and floors. the room’s ensuite was tucked away enough to not disturb sleep, and had plenty of showers, toilets & sinks for the 9 other girls i shared the room with! the lockers were also relatively large. it’s also situated in a great location, near the best gelato i’ve had during my trip (s. brino!)

The staff was not kind at all. The receptionist at check in was short with us. I also had an incident where I forgot something at the hostel after check out and called the hostel to ask for them to grab my lost item & the receptionist who picked up the phone was so rude. My item was a timely matter - as the room would be cleaned soon and my item would have been thrown away. She told me to email because there were other guests she had to tend to first instead of trying to figure it out in that moment. Once I emailed the staff, it took two hours for a response to say they got the email. After that, they told me I was responsible for pickup & shipping as I was in a completely different city at that point. The rooms were not welcoming and the guests were also not as friendly as a hostel environment typically is. Would not stay here again.

The place had a rare smell that wasn’t very appealing. The room was just ok and the common room wasn’t comfortable. It was just ok if you just want to pass the night and make your day through out the city.

Not great. The atmosphere is a bit cold. The common room is just a big empty room with tables and a small seating area, which isn't very sociable. The rooms are a bit smelly, but fairly dark, quiet and the beds are okay. The bathroom is unlike anything I have ever seen before in a hostel. The showers are only separated by curtains. Therefore there is little privacy. Overall the hostel is not super clean either. If you are not picky and only staying in Florence for a short time, it is a fine option. But I am sure there are better options.

On my return to Florence, I decided to give Santa Monica Florence Hostel a shot, primarily lured in by its location. The staff did their best to enlighten me about the city, and welcome me so graciously but structurally the hostel itself left much to be desired. It bore the heavy burden of age and wear, radiating an uninspiring look, just begging for a makeover. This place was nothing more than a place to lay your head, and even that was a challenge due to its discomfort. It lacked any semblance of allure, resembling a bewildering maze of walls and rooms. The air conditioning was a sorry excuse, transforming crowded rooms into stuffy, foul-smelling chambers with zero airflow. The mattresses, well past their prime, offered no comfort. The only shining light was the staff’s friendliness and professionalism, alongside its convenient location, clean bathrooms and potential for interesting encounters with fellow travelers. It’s a classic case of “you get what you pay for,” but with a bit more structural effort, this place could truly shine. Florence offers better options of Hostels for discerning travelers, but of course at a higher price point. So if it’s a budget you want then it’s a budget you are getting.

I stayed at the hostel in July, when the summer heat is very strong, and the air-conditioning isn't that great to put up with that kind of heat. The location is amazing and you're able to walk to all the monument's and restaurants and hang out spots easily. I really enjoyed that. The common room and also the rooms are run down and th whole place needs to be updated. The staff are lovely and friendly and speak great english to help with their questions and insights about the city.

If you're looking for a place to sleep, you should rather choose a park. It is so overwhelmingly hot that going to a sauna after your sleep might be refreshing. Impossible to sleep, good to store your luggage and maybe for the kitchen.

My the worst hostel experience ever. I stayed in mixed room for 16 people, very cold atmosphere, everytime someone came in the door makes really loud sound, someone was puling in the room at 3am. There js no quiet time. Right next to the hostel there is church and sometimes they are singing opera very lound until 22:30. If you dont like opera this place is not for you. Bathrooms very kinda dirty. Its not worth it for the price.

By far the worst hostel i’ve been to. No seats on the toilets! Closed from 3-6. You literally can’t get in unless by chance they see you. Beds aren’t comfy, sheets are terrible. Towel I paid for was the worst. Stairs to climb. Would not recommend

Hostel is in a good location to see the main sites. The 3am to 6am curfew is quite annoying if you want to enjoy any of Florence’s night life, but understand as some people don’t want to be woken up late at night. There isn’t a very social atmosphere in this hostel, only a bed to sleep in. If you’re looking for a more social hostel pay a few extra euros and go to yellow square. Not sure why but kitchen and common area was filled with very young children when I was there which made cooking and preparing food slightly harder as Gad to watch for them running into you or picking things up that you were using.

Clean, good location, helpful staff, there's everything you'd need for a short stay. It's easy to get lost among the corridors and it's too expensive in my opinion.

  • 3/5 Jazzy M. 11 months ago on Google
Not bad but the room was extremely cold at night and the blankets are thin. Also a lot of stairs to get to the rooms and bathrooms.

A good sitting space. Spacious kitchen. Two refrigerators. Microwave, toaster grill and a stove are available for use. Cleaning is done just once in the whole day. So, if someone has a nasty previous user then you will run out of luck.

It is very Loud, Very Impractical, no breakfast included, the attactions are very close but the train station is a 15 min walk so if you carry a heavy bag it will feel very far and I find it over priced compaired to many other hostels around the world even at Switzerland.

Decent hostel. Clean enough. Not a lot of privacy in the rooms. It does the job. Pros: price, location Cons: curfew 3-6am

  • 4/5 Max 1 year ago on Google
The AC was so cold, couldn't sleep properly. The creaky bunk beds didn't make things better, or my bunk-make was just too noisy. The bathrooms are classic gym style. The location is amazing!

We picked this place because of the location and the price. However it was less satisfying than expected. Positives: - location is great - one of the lowest price hotels in center - beds were okay Improvable points: - Bathrooms could be much much cleaner. - The room was really smelly and made us very nauseous, open windows did not help - They said the hostel was closed between 3-6am and they seemed strict about it. One night we were running late and tried calling the hostel but there was no answer. So we thought we could not get in and spent time outside, we only managed to procrastinate until 5 and came to the hostel to wait in front of it. Surprisingly the entrance was wide open without anyone on the reception. We spent time outside in the cold for no reason and obviously it is very easy for any stranger to enter while noone is in the reception.

Not bad but not that great either. I wouldn't say value for money. The rooms were clean and the common bathroom was somewhat clean too. Very poor common spaces and the kitchen was quite dirty with no clean sponges towels etc. Generally I would say its good for a bed to sleep but nothing more.

The rooms very OK and very basic. Literally two single beds and a very small table and chair set. The wardrobe in the room was very dusty, so was a bit careful about that as I get hay fever very quickly. The shared bathroom- they really need to sort out the plumbing because every time someone showered, there would be a massive puddle of water which would take like 5mins to drain. Even when it did drain, when you turn on the shower, it would flood back up from the drain pipe and then you were standing in dirty water 🤢 that was really disgusting. The staff at the reception where always helpful toward my friend and I. They had affiliate vouchers for a cafe nearby by which was nice because you got a cup or coffee and a pastry for something like €2.50 and you got that each day you stayed there. The hostel is in an ideal location, as the main places to visit was only like 10mins away! Since the building is so old, you have to carry your luggage up the stairs so just be wary of that- we had a staff member offer to carry our for us so that was so lovely!

Staff extremely helpful, room was very clean as well as all common areas. Location was good and near various sites. Wish I had been closer to main bathroom/shower area for showers but the shared bathroom was also good. excellent local shops for eating or grocery shopping. Would recommend to anyone, no matter your age (I'm 65)

We had great experience in this hostel. The guys working in the reception were friendly and helpful. The rooms/bathrooms/kitchen were clean and tidy. And we were invited to use all the facilities (storage, kitchen, toilets) the whole day after we checked out at 10:30. The hostel is close to all the tourist attractions, there is a small shop next door and a bigger one just a few streets down. Also I don't remember experiencing any noise, except maybe from the air conditioner in the room.

Really cool place to stay: it’s near to the city center, there are nice people at the reception, dorms are big (and capacity is reduced due to covid, so you get your space from other guests) and it’s clean!

  • 4/5 J G. 2 years ago on Google
This hostel was in a great location. Was clean for the most part. Kitchen is very small. There also was no hangout area besides the kitchen area.

Great hostel! Close to all the main sights and in a lively neighborhood! The staff is véry nice and helpfull, everything was clean and tidy and there was airconditioning in the room (little noisy but fine). In other reviews I read that there’s no place to socialize: partly true, there is a room for it but not very inviting and most guests seem to want to explore Florence. One bit of feedback: you need a key to enter your dormroom, that’s not very convenient. If you forget it, you force people out of bed to open the door for you. Maybe a coded door? Other than that: great hostel especially for the price.

Good value, the rooms/beds are clean and the room had a portable A/C unit that worked. The staff was friendly. Could use more common space but I still managed to meet some cool people. Definitely worth the stay

Arriving in Florence the location of where we my partner and I had decided to stay was too good to turn down. We arrive at the hostel and are greeted by a less than welcoming hello, as the check in process took over 25 minutes as they decided to ignore us for most of it. Once checked in and seeing our room which was a 4 bed mixed dorm that consisted of 2 bunks we realised we had been put into a seperate bunk to the other. I had gone down to reception and asked if my girlfriend who would feel more comfortable sharing the same bunk could move beds as there was no one else in our dorm at the time. That is when I was met by the rudest reception lady I have ever dealt with in my time. She told me it was impossible to move beds and was making snide remarks to me in the process and being more or less a smart arse after I had asked her why it was “impossible” to move beds as we were the only ones in the dorm. She refused to listen and ignored me as I was asking for the move. The beds are the most uncomfortable bricks I’ve ever laid on and the sheets we were given were dirty and refused to be changed, no blankets available and a pillow that may as well of been a piece of paper. I stay in a lot of hostels and have never been told that between 3am-6am I am not allowed to leave as I am not allowed to come back in! How can you pay for a room you can’t access for a 3 hour period? What if you wanted to go out with friends and party then you want to come back to bed and have to wait till their “curfew” is over! It is the stupidest rule I’ve ever heard! I would NOT recommend this place to anyone and suggest that you spend a little more than we did to find somewhere where you are treated with respect. Don’t know how you can call yourselves a business, trash staff, trash facilities and trash experience! You should be ashamed

Nothing outstanding about the hostel but we had some of the worst experience ever with a security guard's inappropriate behavior towards a girl friend in our group. He was harassing our friend during his night shift, making totally inappropriate comments and taking advantage that she was alone, he didn’t stop until all the friend group was there. Despite lodging a complaint, the response was a mere "we're sorry," with no evident measures taken. This was a truly beyond unpleasant experience, and we do not recommend this hostel at all, definitely not safe. We will not be returning ever again.
