I walked up to Forte di Belvedere. It wasn't an easy trek uphill, but the rewards made the sweating, the huffing and the puffing well worth it. The fort is situated on top of a strategic hill that has magnificent views not only of the city of Florence, but also of the countryside surrounding it. It also has a cafeteria that is a welcome respite after such a hard climb and an art gallery. Highly recommended.

Views are amazing! I would say best in Florence. Be prepared for a long walk uphill. People who struggle to walk or with kids I would recommend getting a taxi. Not much of the Fort to see but great cafe/bar at the top. Right next to the Fort is an entrance to the Baboli gardens, so you can go there next.

An absolute marvel to witness in one of the greatest cities in the World. True beauty in architectural form. Behold -- do not miss out on the opportunity to visit this wonder if you ever grace this lovely area with your presence. Truly all scenes and views in the area are marvelous.

This must be one of the best places to come and see the sunset in Florence. The whole city takes a new sunset colour and the views are stunning. Only 3 euros to get in and stay as long as you like. There are toilette facilities and also a restaurant with live music. Beautiful place. Doesn't get the 5 stars as they are reserved for Florence itself.

3 euro entry with an sculpture exhibit and a walk around the fort is an absolute bargain. The cafe is a little expensive and the 1 toilet stinks. It's a fantastic place to watch dusk settle over Florence. The views are almost as good as from Michelangelos terrace.

We love this place, fabulous views across Florence in all directions, comfortable seating indoors and out. It's pretty great for wheelchair access too, with a lift from Via del Forte di S. Giorgio, a lift inside and accessible paths around the outside. No wheelchair access if the lift is broken however, although this has only ever happened once in the many times we have been there. This 16th century fort is closed in winter, usually open June to October (i.e. spring/summer in Florence). You can also usually access the fort from the top gate of the Bobili gardens, which is mostly open. (Sorry about the uncertainty, this is Italy). We have also seen some wonderful art installations there, which the city of Florence scatters about the site on occasions. A vino or cocktail up here on a warm evening with a gentle breeze flowing past is sublime.

Visited the fort on 12 Nov 2019 and found it was close from 21 Oct 2019 till spring 2020. The fort open only in conjunction with temporary exhibitions! The opening hours shown in Google Map is correct only when there is exhibition! I would give 5✨ if it is open as it is a great place to take photo overlooking the city!

Beautiful view and lovely bar! Very impressed with the location. Plus is free entry 🥳 Very rare in Firenze. So you could even just walk there for the view and not consume any drink. But trust me you will want a drink after the long walk up the hill.

Visited this Fort yesterday afternoon, it was closed. Then after reading some reviews it became clear that this fort almost always closed. It is opened mostly only when some exhibitions are taking place here. Also saw the desk on the wall of fort outside with the information of a girl Veronica died here in 2008. She fell into the void between the wall and the meadow in her birthday day, she was celebrating it in the fort with friends... after such news I was happy that me and my husband weren’t able to visit the Fort. So be careful if you’ll visit fort! It seems like the tragedy happened because fort wasn’t equipped enough for the tourists visitors and was dangerous. Also we’ve faced with scary suburbans in the fog outside the Fort. And there hardly were several people in the area close to to the fort.

Found this place by accident while walking through a residential area, but couldn't pass it up. It's big, beautiful, free, has a museum and book/gift shop, and hosts some of the best views of Florence.

It's free. With some of the best views looking over the city. Best to come during sunset or sunrise but cloudy days are fine as well. Expensive bar at the top with decent seating and large drink menu (none particularly outstanding)

A nice place to visit for great views and a nice glass of wine. Interesting to see a fort built to protect Florence and a wonderful view of the area.

Beautiful panoramic views of Firenze, cute coffee/wine bar with light food at the top, and the whole outdoors (not including the interior art museum) is totally free. This was our favorite stop in the city, much more peaceful than the crush of tourists, taxis, and salesmen surrounding Il Duomo

A 4 star view. Free entrance, you have to go uphill to get to a place but it is worth it. Doesn't work on mondays.

More ‘guards’ then a James Bond villains secret base! Found the fort on google maps and thought we’d visit as it’s free! After walking up the hilly road we arrived and we’re given tickets, which we didn’t understand as it’s free to get in and nobody checks them as they give them at the entrance anyway! The main building has a very strange art expo in that didn’t really appeal to us.. the outside has some more strange art.. what is amazing about this place is the view!! All the people up on the hill at sunset trying to get a selfie when this place is empty and has a fantastic view of the city.. what I can’t understand is the 15 James Bond style staff/guards patrolling the place.. you don’t even get that many at a large museum and the fort is basically empty… I assume there’s a big funding grant from somewhere. What would be nice is the main building and grounds being used for history rather then some modern art expo.

Andateci entro Ottobre.

A must visit place to get a birds view of Florence. As it gets dark the lights turn on making the view even more beautiful.

It's closed until next year. The Firenze card app don't inform about this changes of schedule and it's not the first time. I think that this situation don't help to the tourism and could cause a damage on the city reputation like a place to visit.

Amazing place! There are often exhibitions of modern and contemporary art here. And one of the best views in Florence! Also local bar is not expensive and awesome.

  • 5/5 Thomas K. 6 years ago on Google
Great views of Florence and the surrounding hills combined with larger scale art arrangements both out- and inside the main building. The current art exhibition is great, with spectacularly lit in-door arrangements - each filling one single room. Getting there is a bit of a workout, in particular by bike. The road follows the City wall, and is steep and quite narrow. Since it is one-way, most cars speed quite a bit, and caution is advised. The cafe bar in the main building offers plenty of outdoor seating, and one can rehydrate and have a snack in a nice Toscana breeze while enjoying spectacular views.

Great views over the city. We visited about an hour before sunset, which baths the city in a golden hue. The restaurant on top is a nice place to sit down and relax, or you bring your own food and drinks and enjoy them in the grass, with views over the city.

It was a terrible walk to get here, up super steep streets. Then a bunch of steps. All to get to an empty dried up lawn. Cool views for sure, but wasn’t worth the hike in my opinion.

Worth the extreme uphill walk. There's a large area with a bar at the top with an amazing view of Florence.

It is easier to win the lottery than find this place open. It's almost a tradition in Florence to have opening times for less known monuments that are so capricious about opening times. Shame, they are supposed to manage all those jewels but they are not doing a good job.

Worth the walk up the hill! Gorgeous views and a great place to sit and have a coffee/glass of wine. 3€ to go in but the sign on the front did mention 20 October. We think it might be closing then for the low season so check before going up.

We were here on a Sunday evening, and everyone was very friendly. The staff was nice and quick to bring us our food and wine. The view was absolutely breathtaking! The only thing that irked me is one of the workers was a serious enforcer "please don't hold your child near the railing", "it's better that you drink your wine inside", "please don't let your child touch the table". Just overall not very kid friendly. It made it tough after a half mile uphill climb. Otherwise everything was fantastic, and it was the best view of the city!
