The Michaelangelo David statue is much more impressive in person than it looks on the photos. It is huge and the posture and detail is amazing. Apart from the David Sculpture and the odd interesting painting this was the least interesting gallery I've been in. Without the David it would almost be pointless visiting it. After you have seen the first 500 rooms of paintings of Mary and Baby Jesus in the exact same pose and style, you have seen them all. If you want to see art of this style go to the churches in Rome and see them where they were meant to be seen for free.

Seeing David in person was the highlight of my visit. The Accademia Gallery is fairly small, you can be in and out within an hour if you move quickly. David is truly the master piece of this place. Popular museums like this tend to sellout in Italy, therefore I would highly suggest booking your spot in advance.

This place is most famous for being the home to the famous sculpture of David by Michelangelo. And it is worth all the hype and the excitement. The attention to detail by Michelangelo is second to none. Every tensed muscled is sculpted with extraordinary accuracy and precision. He truly was a genius. There are also sculptures and paintings of different artist and are definitely worth the time. The overall gallery is not that big and can be fully explored within an hour

The main attraction, as you’ve probably learned, is Michelangelo’s Statue of David, one of the most famous sculptures in the world and much more impressive and inspiring in person than any photo can portray. Aside from David, there is a nice collection of other unfinished Michelangelo sculptures and a nice collection of paintings from the renaissance era. In my opinion, the optional and small musical instrument exhibit, though nice if you have ample time, is not really necessary and can be skipped. The size of the museum overall is perfect and not in any way overwhelming - we did it comfortably in about 2 hours and that was being slow. Highly recommend when in Florence!

Wow...what an amazing place! David made an incredible impression on me. The masterpiece created by Michelangelo is simply breathtaking. Of course, in the Gallery you will find many more beautiful works of art that are worth paying attention to. I recommend buying tickets online in advance, because the Gallery is always crowded with tourists, but it is understandable because everyone who visiting Florence wants to see this masterpiece on their own eyes.

The Statue of David is beautiful. It was larger than I thought it would be and the level of detail is insane! There are huge crowds though. Be prepared for that. Also, the slots to view the exhibits are timed. Make sure you prebook your tickets or be prepared to take whatever they have. One final note, see more than David, seeing the other exhibits. Seeing the older instruments were awesome to me as a musician.

The gallery itself is beautiful and quite small, going through can take anything from 1 - 4 hours depending on how much you like to read about each painting and sculpture. For me it was about 1 and a half hour because all paintings are Christian-themed, which doesn't mean much to me, so I just quickly went through them however the sculptures really caught my eye. Each sculpture, and painting, has a description which tells a quick story about about whom it was ordered and who made it. They also show how the plaster copies are made. The queue can be very random. We haven't bought any reservation, which I recommend if you hate unnecessary wait times and can get a reservation for a good price (order at least a week ahead),and so we had to join the slowest queue. Thankfully we have waited only something over an hour to get in (joined 15:30, got in 16:50, with about 30-40 people in front of us). They usually let a group of 10 people in, sometimes in 10 minute intervals and sometimes it takes 30 minutes. Once you get in there is a queue for security and then a queue for actually buying the tickets, which is more crowded and even less organized. The gallery closes entrance in 18:20 and closes as a whole in 18:50. I think it is worth the wait if you are not waiting for more than 2 hours. For calculating wait time you have to first wait for at least 30 minutes to see how the staff treats the queues. Some let in solely the reserved queue (which is expected) some make it more balanced. Highly recommend freeing at least 3 hours for Academia Gallery.

This museum was specifically built to showcase David, and it does its job VERY well. The moment you turn the corner at the entrance you're greeted by him at the end of the walkway. David is nothing short of a majestic piece that deserves the acclaim he receives. The walk leading to him is lined by unfinished works of Michelangelo - each a masterpiece in progress in its own right. Attending this museum in the off season is best because there's no wait. Regardless, always buy a ticket in advance!

Incredible. David sure makes a lasting impression. It's such a special feeling to stand in a place filled with so much beauty & history. Definitely worth the visit. A family member took a fall during our visit, the staff was very helpful in assisting us to call an ambulance. The entrance wasn't very exciting, you wait in what feels like an alley.

Superb gallery and really a breath taking experience! But please don't do like us and please buy the tickets beforehand on the internet or somewhere else... we went there without tickets and waited 3:30 hours to get inside... it was an absurd! They let first the big tours and people with tickets... and the no-tickets line barely walks in hours...

What a wonderful place. Michelangelo’s David in itself is worth the admission. It is just mesmerizing, hard to grasp, given its perfection and sheer size. But the rest of the museum is quite a treat for the art-inclined. We went in November without an anticipated ticket in hand and we queued for 15min before entering. Not busy at all for the first hour, which I suspect makes all the difference. Highly recommended to go early!!

Michelangelo’s David is obviously the main attraction and the statue does not disappoint. I would check out the statue, view the rest of the museum and then come back for a few more minutes to take in the sculpture again. It really is impressive.

Worth a visit for the David, no doubt. But otherwise not particularly remarkable. If you’re crazy about sculptures and medieval art, for sure you’ll enjoy it more than the average art aficionado. The whole visit takes about 1 hour at a decent pace.

What a great museum to get a feel for the birth of the Renaissance era of the world. The queue line to get in can be quite long so make sure to buy tickets in advance! Going through a guided tour like I did made the wait pretty small, but it does come with a premium cost of course. The Statue of David is quite the thing to see in real life! Highly recommend to stop by while in Florence!

Make sure you buy a ticket upfront and go EARLY morning. We did that and had a great time. The statue is just amazing, amazing. The other sides of the museum are not so impressive. The music instruments area is very interesting. Expect a 2h tour.

A must see when you are in Florence. Do yourself a favor and book a guided tour. You will learn a lot and won’t spend hours waiting in line! Gallery is not big but just Michelangelo’s David is worth going there for. But don’t worry there are a lot more to see!

The museum was a lot smaller than expected. Although, it is small it’s packed with beautiful artwork. The statue of David alone makes it worth it. We booked our tickets online which I highly recommend as it gets crowded. Also online search for the best deal. We got our 5 tickets through head out which was cheaper than on the site.

The sculptures here are amazing. The gallery even has some unfinished works of michaelangelo which were very interesting to see. Of course, it houses the famous statue of David which is definitely something to tick off of your bucket list. Entry fee was reasonable but no need to book ahead or book “queue jump” during the week as there was no queue at all.

To see the statue of David by Michelangelo is worth a trip to this Gallery. The attention to detail on this piece of art is something astonishing. Michelangelo was the greatest and genius. There are other pieces of work from other renaissance artists and it’s worth looking at it, but if you don’t appreciate that kind of art then it feels all the same. Either way, to see the statue of David is worth the trip. The entrance fee could be lower in my opinion but it’s understandable.

During my recent visit to the Accademia Gallery, I found the experience to be overall satisfactory. The collection of art, including Michelangelo's iconic David, was impressive. The museum layout allowed for a smooth flow through the exhibits, and the information provided about the artworks was informative. However, the crowd and limited space could be a drawback for some visitors, impacting the overall enjoyment of the visit.

Of course, you’re here to see Michelangelo’s David. This sculpture is the main attraction. There are also other works by Michelangelo here. The other paintings here are quite typical of the usual religious scenes. Maybe the curator knew that the David would really overshadow everything else anyway. Book your tickets in advance!

A must see and must do when in Firenze! Buy your ticket online to avoid the queue. You’ll have to pay €4 surcharge on top but then again it’s only €16. Well worth it. To fully enjoy it, spend around 4 hours or more there. Lots to see and learn. We went there on International Women’s Day - guess what? I got a free ticket! The only time I feel wow- lucky to be a woman! 🤣🤣

This place is known for being the home of Michelangelo’s David. And to be perfectly honest, that’s the best description for it. There are a few other pieces in this gallery, most interestingly the four prisoners, but nothing will take your breath away quite as much as the sight of the beautiful masterpiece that is the David. It’s a very crowded museum, but this doesn’t take away the loveliness of the David. It is big enough for people to few it from all different angles from quite up close. The gallery has done a great job in its display of the statue.

Went to see the David statue. Was impressed that we were able to get close enough to it to truly enjoy the accomplishment of the work. I remember seeing the Mona Lisa at the Louvre many years ago and could hardly see it on my tiptoes it was so mobbed. Was not the case here. If you go to Firenze, you need to go.

Tried too late to purchase timed entry tickets, so got in line at 8:20 for standby tickets. Entered the museum around 9:40. Once inside everything was pretty good. While there were a lot of people it was still easy to get up close to each work of art.

This is Michelangelo's David. A handful of other works, but that's not the reason for your visit. David is worth seeing in person and worth the entry fee. 30 minutes is plenty of time to appreciate the statue and (quickly) view the rest of the art.

This art gallery is great.. its scale is relatively small (compared to the Uffizi, e.g.) The statue David by Michelangelo is no doubt the centerpiece. Worth the visit!

It's a nice museum with a lot of marble status. The statue of David is quite bigger then expected. The second floor is full with religious paintings and things (totally not my thing).

Really nice gallery, small and easily toured in 1 hour. Michelangelo’s David is stunning, and well worth the ticket price. Other pieces are equally impressive, and overall had a great visit.

A must visit museum in Florence along with the Uffizi Museum. It last ~2 hours to finish everything and it also includes musical instrument museum! Of course, the main attraction, David, was breathtaking.

Beautiful museum. David statue is stunning and preserved nicely. Also other statues are attractive. I would suggest take a audio guide to know all the history behind all the statues.

David is one of the best things to see in Florence! Even if the rest of the museum was not really to my taste (mainly religious paintings similar to the Uffizi ones for example) I'd still 200% recommend visiting even just for David. And there's still other nice things to see in the museum. I recommend booking online in advance.

Simply astounding. The pieces exhibited moved me in a way I haven't been moved for a while. It was a bit crowded, as the gallery is housing pieces from other galleries undergoing construction. I took a lot of time and had to run upstairs to take a mere quick look at the first floor - which shouldn't be missed.

I love that there's not much to see other than David. Of course there are a few other unfinished and astonishing works of the master but David. Wow. Just incredible and wonderful to be able to sit and view him. It's huge, it's unbelievable, it's worth a visit to Florence for this alone.

This is a must see in Florence. The statue of David is worth every penny! Michelangelo’s David is the center piece and you really see why. Note: You should book tickets in advance and online, they go fast. No need to wait for a long time in the queue, your grouped time slot will move in on time. I had a 7pm slot and the crowds did thin out near closing time. This was great to see the art with no more crowds incoming.

More than just David (which is sure the highlight). Take the time to really look at both the sculptures and the paintings. Remarkable details in the sculptures and vibrant colors in the paintings. Examples of how large sculptures were produced using smaller plaster casts.

  • 5/5 Michael K. 1 year ago on Google
Was so amazing to see such great sculptures, especially Michelangelo’s David! Worth every second! You have to be there to appreciate how magnificent it is, and how large the statue is!

  • 5/5 Sarah J. 1 year ago on Google
Incredible to see David in person. Sometimes famous art can be underwhelming when finally seen in person, but not so with Michelangelo’s work. Absolutely stunning. The musical wing also has several Stradivarius stringed instruments which was a pleasant surprise. The outside staff in particular was so helpful and kind and did an amazing job keeping everyone organized, directing to which line to get in when, etc. Also the pre-purchase tickets directly from their website worked great and pick up was smooth. Overall a wonderful experience.

Very nice museum, it is all concentrated and built around the statue of David. Even if you go just for David it is enough. I also enjoyed the room next to david with many plaster statues, very good work

The main attraction is David by Michelangelo. It’s incredible! As you turn the corner and see the SCALE for the first time, the impact it has. It really is a sight to be seen in person wow. Book in advance, wow I can’t recommend this enough. The queues are insane, book in advance or book a premium ticket to skip the queue. It’s worth every penny. Amazing selection of art and sculpture additional to David too! The sculptures are so impressive, beautiful curation.

If it wouldn’t be for the long lines, you might pass it by. Get a fast track timed entrance or you will either have to wait or the tickets are sold out. There are many more masterworks besides the impressive David. For my American friends: The CDC vaccination card is accepted everywhere instead of the European Green Pass
