Great fun. Loads of cool stuff, but jumbled but adds to the charm. Really quiet, had the whole thing to ourselves. Some info badges wouldn’t be amiss as we ended up guessing most of the time.

Very interesting house. The collection of armour is extensive, and the tour concentrates on that. However there is also quite an extensive collection of Italian, Flemish, and French paintings, but there is absolutely no information on them (I went for the paintings). The guide gave extensive information in Italian and tried her best in English. However the tour lasted almost 2 hours which was a bit too long and some people were getting a bit jittery (mainly due to an elderly couple asking a vast amount of questions in every room). Worth the visit and it is a peaceful location. We didn't know it was necessary to join a tour until we arrived

Simply amazing, one of the best museums I visited in Europe. Lots of interesting pieces, details and armour of every kind. The fact it was a private collection just blows your mind. It was so quiet there, I visited in October and Florence itself was very crowded - however in this place I was one of the few visitors. Mine most silent museum experience, especially if you think how crowded are other Florence museums :) The collection is definitely worth checking, it’s a blessing it’s not as popular as Uffizi.

I went to this museum on a whim and it ended up being one of the coolest places I went. If you like renaissance weapons and armour, look no further. The whole tour takes about an hour and a half and and the museum is home to the largest collection of rapiers, black powder firearms, and general armaments from the 14th-18th century I've ever seen. There's an entire room dedicated to Edo-era samurai armour and weapons, an Islamic collection, and of course western and Central European weapons and armour. Very cool place.

Amazing collection- very extensive weapons from around the world. It was a tour that lasted 1.5 hours. We were the only ones and the guide spoke English and was patient while we explored.

This is the extraordinary collection of Fredrick Stibbert, whose inherited a fortune derived from his grandfather’s having been one of the founders of the British East India Company and governor of India. He inherited the fortune at 21 and spent the rest of his life collecting. He collected so much in fact that he and his sister were at odds over his overwhelming collection of stuff. As a consequence he did the only thing he could do. He bought his neighbors adjoining house and created a museum. Although he was a British Citizen, he was born and lived his life in Florence. Having no heirs he wanted, he gave his hoard to the city and it is now a large jewel in a city filled with many jewels. It is out of the way, but it is a must see. As you can see, he loved military stuff. He has the largest collection of samurai military gear in the world outside of Japan, and tons of European, and middle eastern militaria. Cool. Very cool.

This place is an undiscussed gem of Florence. We practically had the place to ourselves, as opposed to the massively crowded art museums. The wealth and variety of armaments is astonishing. If there's one critique I would make it's that the lighting and signage could be improved, but that's a small issue. The collection is excellent.

My husband and I are history/ armor super nerds. I have never taken so many photos so fast in my life. Tour guide was wonderful. We will be back.

Wild collection of armor and weaponry from around the world collected by an insanely wealthy, closeted? businessman. Honestly, I’d go here over Uffizi. Great, off the radar museum. The only complaint is that they have almost no interpretive panels to explain what you’re looking at. Still, fantastic.

Absolutely incredible place !! I can’t believe how much wow moments I experienced during the visit.. The collection of this dude was huge. And he managed to build the perfect place (a fully decorated palace) to showcase it. It’s completely insane ! If you’re into old armors and weapons from different cultures like me you should absolutely visit this place ! The Samurai collection is particularly mind blowing. One of the best museum I did in Florence.

You absolutely MUST SEE this museum! In an ocean of spectacular collections of cultural antiquity, the Stibbert truly stands out. After awhile, the all the different collections you see in Florence of religious masterworks of Medici-funded baroque renaissance painters can lead to a form of sense-blindness-- sure, its all amazing, but after awhile you kinda think "oh look, more gold-leaf St. Francis Crosses. Neat." Then along comes the Stibbert and its 50,000 objects of weaons, armour, art, furniture, and fashion to slap your eyeballs and reminds you why Firenze is the best city for culture and history in the world! Best of all, Stibbert is -just- far enough off the beaten path that you dont really need to content with the trapped-sardine feeling of other tourists. :) Along with LaSpecola (whenever it reopens), the Stibburt is an unforgettable experience.

A beautifully kept villa, a little out of the way from the city centre. The tour guide seemed to know her stuff and after the hour-long tour we had a chance to relax in the gardens of the villa. Definitely worth a visit!

Unfortunately did not manage to get in as the (b)witches that work on the entrance did not let us in while there was still one hour left before closing. It is amazing how people do not manage to share what's not theirs - seems to be typical to this town. Disappointment for me and even more for my son.

Very interesting museum out of the main city centre. We spent a good 2 hours here browsing round the exhibits. The collection is impressive, albeit repetitive, with the use of QR codes instead of text displays making it slightly less convenient to learn about the history of the objects.

This place and its location pose an outstanding contrast with overcrowded, noisy core group of main sights. No Chinese souvenirs, no hordes. Just a quiet, romantic park and a posh manor stuffed with hundreds of historic items in well-preserved interiors. On a Saturday afternoon it's so quiet you can hear the clocks ticking. The staff are super friendly and happy to share knowledge with you. Basically, it's an exemplary museum. Full marks!

One of the best Italian museum focused on weapons and armors (from medieval time to Napoleonic), really amazing! Only one disadvantage that a visit is with a guide, only 1 hour for whole visit - definitely not enough time to see everything in deep.

This place is wild. The massive collection is fascinating and engaging. The way that the armor was displayed on horse and human models in the middle of massive rooms resulted in an impactful atmosphere. The only issue is that you have to go on a tour, so if you show up when one is already full or has already started, you have to wait for another hour to join the next tour. There was also no English tour available when we were there, but the visuals were engaging enough.

Wow. The armory collection in this place is something to be seen. They only do guided tours in this place. We did not buy in advance. When we showed up tour has just started so we got attached to the group. Park out back is nice.

This museum has the biggest private collection of arms and armour in Florence and perhaps Italy. It is curated by the most industrious and educated people Firenze has to offer. I’ve never been happier than when I walked its shaded corridors and gazed upon the majestic beauty of countless tapestries, brocart, velvet, malachite tables, marble fireplaces, knightly suits of armour, arms, coifs, and assorted weapons of war. I recommend this true masterpiece to all connoisseurs who prefer a deep and tranquil immersion into the waters of the past to wading through a sea of Brutish people at the other fine establishments Florence has to offer. I love it so much that I visited it three times in 10 days.

We spent hours at the Stibbert museum last week, marveling at the wide ranging, astounding collections. My 14 year old son said it was his favorite part of our entire vacation. I strongly recommend making time to veer from the standard Firenze sights to experience this place.

This is such an amazing hidden gem of Florence! Because it is out of the city center it is often overlooked by people which not only makes it that much more special but it also means you have the museum pretty much to yourself. It is a wonderful collection of weaponry and amour from all over the world and if that isn't interesting to you the building itself is spectacular! Every room is styled differently with unique and beautiful objects and art pieces. The museum's staff are so lovely and it is an absolutely must-see for history lovers and people looking for unique experiences in Florence.

This is a fantastic collection of armour and weapons from Europe, Japan, and Islamic countries. Surprise exhibits included the mantle used by Napoleon when crowned emperor of Italy and several Egyption sarcophagi - one apparently still containing a mummy. The museum also borders lovely gardens.

The Museo Stibbert was suggested by a friend. I had never heard of this museum and must say I was pleasantly surprised. It is in the home of a Colonel dedicated by his widow. The armory collection is said to be the best in Italy. The museum is a guided tour that last about 1.5 hours and includes to estate. The museum has Florentine exhibits and ones from the Ottomans, Persians, and Japanese. It is off the beaten path and will not disappoint at least the military enthusiasts. Why has Rick Steves never covered this jewel??

This was my favorite museum in Florence. Great collection of old weapons and armour. Much more extensive than any I've seen, albeit with many similar pieces - ie cases holding 50 of essentially the same item. It's smaller and a little out of the way, but it offered a nice respite from all of the sculptures and paintings housed in the more popular museums.

Very few visitors, quite far from the 'centro storico' but well worth the visist and money. Beautiful Villa, where musuem is located, even more amazing collection, thousands of pieces of (mostly) armour and weapons. From Europe, some Japanese armours, other interesting objects. Quiet and remote, surrounded by a garden. The best museum visit in Florence.

Absolutely loved this museum, such an incredible find in Florence. Almost overwhelming in the sheer volume of the collection but fascinating.

I had never heard of this museum and went on the tour because my nephew was interested in weaponry. That was amazing but there is so much more. The tour was really interesting and informative. I could have spent much longer. Worth a taxi ride.

A very Intresting museum full of weaponry highly recommended if you are interested in this type of history. You have to go around as a guided tour which was very good. The only down side is that it is quite a way from the centre, I walked but I would recommend getting public transport.

Highly recommended for everyone who likes to delve in the beauty of historic objects, medieval craftsmanship and even fans of high fantasy. Extraordinary and eclectic collection of weapons, armor and art in a wonderfully labyrinthine building. The intimate atmosphere and wonderful surroundings add to the allure of the objects. We were there on a Sunday in July and the place wasn't busy at all. The website is a little vague about tickets/admissions but it seems like you can drop in any time you want and roam around on your own.

I would have to say that this museum is possibly the best I have ever visited. An amazing history of mostly war related artifacts from a number of nations, cultures and civilizations over the ages. Well worth the time to visit.

If you are a collector, this is the place for you. There are incredible displays of knight armor, samurais, and so much more. The art work on the ceilings is gorgeous. 7 euros a person to get in. I heard if you want to take a guided tour it's with the curator of the museum and 150 euros.

Amazing collection of arms and armor from three different cultures... Largest collection of Japanese arms outside of Japan...

An absolutely incredible collection of arms and armor accompanied by a friendly staff eager to take your questions. It is a slight walk out of the city center, but it’s well worth visiting.
